Why Was There Surprise At Kolb Supporting His Teammate?

What did everybody expect Kevin Kolb to say about Michael Vick, the birthday party and the shooting in Virginia?¬† Did somebody expect him to start lecturing Vick about why he shouldn’t have been at the party?

For the most part, players stick up for other players.  They try to mind their own business and not get very involved in what other guys are doing, unless that teammate talks to them about an issue or asks them for help.

Despite the fact that there are quite a few Eagles fans who don’t like Vick, his teammates love him.¬† They all tell me he’s been a good dude to them.

Kolb, who spends a lot of time on the field and in the meeting room with Vick being that they’re both quarterbacks, happens to like the former number one pick in the draft and he has no problem telling others about it.

There’s no reason for Kolb to say anything negative about Vick. I don’t think it would have been a good thing for him to do as he tries to take over the leadership of this football team.¬† I think it’s wise for Kolb to keep most of their conversations private.

I’m sure the Eagles new starting quarterback has his mind on football and he’s not focused on the coverage of Vick by the media. The only coverages that are on his mind are cover one, cover two or double zone, free coverage or blitz coverages.

He’s probably thinking about getting the ball to DeSean Jackson on that post route.¬† His mind is on hitting Jeremy Maclin on the money when he comes out of his break on that slant route.¬† He’s thinking about getting the ball to Brent Celek down the seam into between the safeties.

Kolb told Jeff Mclane of Philly.com that he had been in touch with Vick via text messaging since June 25, which was the night of the birthday party and shooing.

“I just told him that it was unfortunate what he had to go through,” the Eagles’ new starting quarterback said last week. “I just said, ‘If there’s anything I can do, whatever it is, I don’t care, just holler.’ And, of course, he said, ‘I appreciate it.'”

Why is it that I don’t feel that this is going to be the last we hear about Vick, the birthday party and the shooting?

Does anybody think Kolb should have ripped Vick?

Well, you know as soon as the season opens color analysts bring up everything about what’s happened in the off-season. With the Eagles trading McNabb to the Redskins, Kolb as the untested starter Vick certainly will not come out of that conversation unscathed. Basically the best thing he can do is not have any public parties, get very acquainted with Chess, a nerdy Chess partner and keep his head down.

Very doubtful PW,
I bet Kolb is watching game tape, going over coverages, the playbook, learning opponents defensive tendencies, and trying to get ready for camp with a great chance/opportunity of a lifetime…
Meanwhile your M Vick who has a 2nd chance of a lifetime is probably trying to figure out where he can hold parties in Pa since he can’t travel out of state and where his $$$$ is going to come from..
This my friends is the difference between a “Professional NFL Player” and a player who is simply an
“Athlete” who plays football…

PW..if Kolb is as afraid of Vick as you state why didn’t he throw him under the bus when he was asked the question by the reporter? Kolb is a better fit for this system than Vick and he knows it. They both sit in the same QB meetings, watch the same tape of practices and games, they both know it.

To PW,
Vick will be out of NFL after the 2010 Season,(and maybe sooner if something else happens)
The only way he sees the field for the Eagles besides the occasional WIldcat/Short-Yardage plays
is if Kolb gets injured and I never stated that Vick would be the starter over Kolb, even if he struggles, only if he is injured…
Kolb’s track record is very good actually and has been preparing for this opportunity for the last 3 seasons, He stared 47 games at University of Houston in a pass-first West Coast Style of Offense,
Completed 62% of his passes while in College and is the son of a football coach, so he knows what it takes and has the mental toughness to put in the work and preparation it takes to be succesful at the NFL level… (Didn’t Vick even admit while at the Falcons, that he didn’t prepare very hard)
As a matter a fact, there probably hasn’t been a QB who has been groomed since A Rodgers to be in this position that Kolb is in.. I think he will do fine and really improve as the season goes along

Again,
No comparison on the players you mentioned and Kolb..
The maturity level, the willingness to work hard, learn and prepare, being self-confident but not Cocky like Leaf,Russel,Quinn and Vick was when he started..
You just don’t get it do you…You think because a guy is a god athlete that he’s a Professional when there is a whole lot more to it if you want to play and succeed over a career than using just your athleticism..
J Russell had about 5 good games his senior year one of which was in the Sugar Bowl for the National Title.. Shame of the pundits, scouts and the Oakland Raiders to think this guy was a Professional QB and worthy of the being a top pick..
Do you realize

what u dont understand is im responding to u im not comparing kolb to any of those guys
u listed college numbers like thats a track record and my point is russel leaf andre ware all had great numbers but so what did it translate into anything no and i dont wanna realize anything ur telling me
i dont look at u like u know anything i actually laugh at how u contradict urslef from 1 day to the next
like i said u just had vick starting last month

Phillywilly – your Kolb argument is an old one – truth is, nobody who thinks they have him figured out in terms of the future is correct, we’ll have to see. But if you are going to try to hold Paulman to his predictions or whatever, find another goal – he throws out S*h* with as much conviction as a politician at a campaign rally. It’s just a past-time for him. He did say that ‘Kolb will get injured, and then vick will start’ – but that’s just his throwing **** a the wall to see if it sticks, then if it happens, his ego will be sitting pretty with an ‘i told you so’. You’re wasting your time. Nobody is unclear about your opinion of Kolb. You just disagree with the masses so say what you may, but save yourself sometime with the enigma that is paulman

actually i agree with u schill im saying no1 knows including kevin
im also saying if ur unknown u have much less leash then a known
like that bad 3 game stretch d5 had 2 yrs ago i dont know if kolb can survive that is what im saying
and what started this whole ridiculous debate was what i first said and still stand by that kolb would much rather a known commodity like #7 is not his back up
its human nature
but dont get me riled up like i dont know my shi and start pumping out college stats as ur basis for a prediction because 1 of the best college qb’s ever is ur #2 qb but i do agree with u schill no1 knows

which is why we should just wait until camp & pre-season actually begin.

then we will start to be able to evaluate this qb.

you do not have to worry PW, if the guy falls on his face you will get your props for being one of the early ones saying he couldn’t get it done.

but until then, does it really matter? we need to see something on the field

phil – if you agree with me about Kolb being unkown, than why are messing around with records for this year. It aint even traing camp. SO MUCH can change between now and game 1 let alone the playoffs. Screw thinking about what January will be like, it’s the middle of JULY. And I disagree with your opion that unkown’s get a shorter leash – look at all the fresh QBs that get more than a full season when they first start – where’s the examples of new QBs (who are actually given the reigns), who get pulled after a few bad games? Look at Jamarcus Russel – since you love that example – look how long that took.

look point blank thir backups werent the better qb
2nd i didnt say what our record will be i said that on 1 of g’s last post many of u guys were accepting 7- 8-8 like that was ok like its acceptable hasnt been accpetable for like 8 yr
guess its just a coincidence we downgrade at qb and now 7-9 is ok just coincidence i guess yea right
this the same dam team that was 10-4 thinking bowl game actually its the same team with improvements to the d o line much healthier so i just dont get that notion

To PW,
I bet you a Delasandro’s Cheesesteak that M Vick is out of the NFL completely after this season
I also bet the AI does not suit up for the NBA in 2010-2011 Season
I also bet the Phillies do not make the Playoffs in 2010
and I will bet you the Flyers end up being a playoff team, but don’t make a very deep run next playoffs
and that the Sixers win about 35-37 games in 2010-2011.

i know nothing bout flyers and dont care
was nice to see them in the chip for philly but i have no hockey comments for i know nothing
all i know is that if vick is half of his old self i can easily see him starting here
i bet redskins have better record than eagles i’ll bet u that
yes sixers wont win till we get a pg
they r pulling an eagles make every1 suffer trying to groom a so so talent
so for the next 3 yrs philly is doomed footbal and basketball

Ok PW – you just said above that you agree with me that no one knows how kolb will be, and then you say that he’s worse than Vick. Many, many, many – vast majority – feel that Vick is not a very good QB. Many of those same people, and others think that Kolb looks like a great prospect – you can argue that – but don’t say ‘no one knows what kolb will be like’ and then say ‘vick is a better QB’ – that makes a lack of sense. Let it go man, ignore those who speculate about Kolb – and stick to what you siad you agree with – we don’t know. If the Eagles have a dissapointing season, we all will be dissapointed. If you’re holding the team accountable for not winning superbowls – that’s dumb because they do give their best effort, there’s no perfect formula, and 31 teams don’t every year. If it was easy, the Pats, Colts…etc would do it every year (without cheating). Anyone who says or insinuates that they’ll ‘accept’ a bad year is wrong- they’ll be disappointed. And that would be like most years – big woop that’s reality for the VAST majority of NFL fans every year. But it’ll be a fun and interesting season to watch in the meantime.

we dont know who will win the nba championship next yr so what u can say sixers if u want and no1 can say your wrong but what r the odds
like what r the odds of kolb being better than d5 i will put it like this kolb aint the favorite
and i dont care who dont like vick his credentials prove he is the better qb
pro bowl came to a 1-15 team turned them around in 4yrs made nfc chip game
vick aint come to the league riding the bench
vick wasnt no 2nd round pick who was projected 3rd or 4t round
vick aint play in no terrible college conference mike vick was running circles around the miami hurricanes prob besides florida st maybe ohio st mich they had best d in the league
like i dont just make up stuff cause i like some1 more

phill….I hear ya..really I do. But don’t be putting stuff in about Vick and his college conference and stats when you just shut down P-man for talking about Russell’s college stats. Either use those stats or don’t, but don’t try and have it both ways.

More concerning to me about Vick was that he admitted during his time in ATL that he wasn’t the most commited QB he could or should have been. That is work ethic, plain and simple. I know that last year he played after being out of the league for 2 years, so many were giving him a break.

From the reports that we have about his party experiences in VA this summer, I would question again his commitment to being a better QB. There are alot of star players that become adicted to “the lifestyle”, and it is that lifestyle that they look to maintain, not working to achive professionally. Unfortunately I believe that Vick falls into that catagory until he shows he has improved as a qb.

M Vick was a very average QB in College who happened to play on a very good team (Va Tech) in a pretty weak College Conference at the time.. But more importantly, what has he done in the last 4 years that makes anyone think he’s a top-flight Starting QB.. (even his last seaon or 2 with Falcons, he was very inconsistent and not very efficient at the QB position)
Is Kolb going to pan out and be the Eagles best QB ever (probably not) but there is no reason that he can’t have a good successful career with the Eagles and lead them to the Playoffs and have a legitimate chance at a Super Bowl. It won’t likely happen in 2010 but by 2011/2012 I think he and the rest of these young Eagles can be in upper echelon of the NFC and contend yearly for a Super Bowl run..
As far as E Snow and G Lynch, anyone knows these players were not out on floor with the Sixers for their offensive skills and talent for the were very limited in those areas.. They played because of their defense, rebounding, passing and solid team play (like Tyrone Hill,Steve Mix,Cladwell Jones,M Cheeks, J Bryant,Bobbie Jones)

guess mike vick was on a very good falcon team too lmao
dont matter vick starts this yr

PW – Kolb didn’t sit because he ‘had to be groomed’ – you’re the one who equates Donovan to god – so why can’t you see that they sat Kolb because they were starting Donny!? They were set at starter, so the next thing to do is get a backup/prosect that you like, especially cause Donny was getting older. There’s a reason people compare the Kolb/Eagles situation to Aaron Rogers/Green Bay – because they’re very similar – the situations, not necessarily the QB. Rogers was picked to be Farve’s replacement, and then Farve played (on that team) for a few more years, same thing in Philly. There’s 0 evidence that they sat Kolb because ‘he had to be groomed’. He had a great QB in front of him.
