NFL Should Suspend Agents Who Violate Rules With College Players

I agree with Alabama head coach, Nick Saban that any agents, who are caught giving money or any other type of valuables should be punished with a suspension by the NCAA and NFL. ¬† It doesn’t make sense that the younger person is penalized but the older person is given a free pass.

Of course I’m still not happy about the sanctions that were levied on the University of Southern California football program recently.¬† I think Bush’s agent Michael Ornstein, as well as Lloyd Lake and Michael Michael’s, who were all involved in furnishing Bush with gifts while he played at USC, should be suspended from operating as agents for at two years.

I was out in Los Angeles last month for my youngest daughter’s college graduation and went over to and spent some time at the place where I really learned to play football, USC.¬† I took a picture with USC Athletic Director and former Heisman Trophy winner, Mike Garrett, who happened to be my father’s favorite player, because like my dad he was short.

I talked to quite a few people in the football and athletic department and knew that a change was coming.

I heard a lot of talk about former USC quarterback great Pat Haden, who does the Notre Dame games for CBS, taking over for Garrett as the school’s athletic director.¬† People wouldn’t even stomach any talk about current New Orleans Saint and former USC Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush.

There’s been some argument about what happened with the scandal that has put the team on probation and moved them to return Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy.

The people in the know there at the university say rumors were circulating on campus about Bush being connected to an agent.¬† Nobody thought it was going to blow up like it did but they weren’t shocked when it came out.

I think Saban got it right when he talked about agents being suspended when they’re caught breaking the rules of college sports.¬† It’s fair, it makes sense and it’s the only thing which will stop agents from paying players while they’re still in school.
