X-Rays negative on Maclin’s shoulder

Eagles fans held their breath last night when Jeremy Maclin got popped by Jonathan Joseph and suffered a shoulder contusion. The Eagles have some really nice WR’s, but they aren’t terribly deep on the outside. Maclin is uber important.

But, Adam Caplan of Scout.com says that X-Rays are negative and that really is just a contusion.

“Xrays according to Andy Reid were negative on Maclin’s shoulder, said he should be fine,” he tweets.

Whew!

It did look bad when he got hit. He turned the corner a bit and just dropped the ball heading out of bounds. He immediately put his hand up and looked to be in serious pain. My guess was separated shoulder, but luckily for Eagles fans, I’m wrong all the time.

Friends i said it the day Maclin got drafted and ill tell u again. This kid is soft. He is a good wide receiver. No doubt about it. But he is soft. He doesnt like contact and his game changes after he takes a hit. He is no chad johnson. He will not return to any game after a good hit. I seen it last season. Jackson has heart but he isnt big enough to go across the middle because if he does and a safety gets a hand on him its lights out. But Mac again is soft and this wont be the last of him coming out of games after a so so of a hard hit. At best he will be more of like a Marvin Harrison. Catch and slide. Lol

3 things that Maclin needs to work on if he wants a long and productive career
#1) Don’t stand so upright when running, You absorb a lot more hits when upright
#2) Stop looking around and waiting to be hit, catch the ball, make a cut and go, if heavy traffic, run to the sidelines and live to see another play (Check D-Jax if unclear)
#3) Better ball security, keep it closer to your body and stop carryting it around like a “cheesesteak”

If Maclin can work on these items then he can have a solid long career and catch 50-60 passes a season with 6-8 TD’s, If not, he may turn out to be another Freddie Mitchell. I am still on the fence about him for the above reasons, he obviously has the talent, hands and route running and overall atheticism, but his heart and mind I am not so sure of yet… Time will tell…

After Sat games.. a lot more players around the NFL are banged up… So far, the Eagles have been very fortunate with injuries, anyone notice the NFC East has Eagles,Redskins,Giants all lose with
only the Cowboys beating the Chargers 16-14, maybe the NFC East is really not that strong this year..All teams in NFC East are stuggling along their O/Lines and unable to pass-protect or run the ball effectively so far in Pre-Season, the team who gets their O/Line Healthy and playing well quicker will have a big advantage come Regular Season..(lets go Herremans and Jackson)
Here’s a list of notable players who were injured
Bucs Starting QB broke his thumb (on his throwing hand) and will be out 3-4 weeks and maybe more
Rams Starting QB AJ Feely broke a bone in his hand and could be out 3-4 weeks (rookie #1 Pick Bradford is having a hard time standing upright after get hit a lot in both pre-season games)
Bears MLB B Urlacher strained a calf muscle and not sure how long he will be out..
Seahawks #1 pick LT R Okung suffered a high-ankle sprain and may be out for 3-4 weeks
Patriots OL K Maczur is still slow recovering from off-season back surgey and status is unknown
Packers had 460 yards of Offense vs Seatle and A Rodgers had a QB Rating of 146 …8 out of 11 for 2 TD passes and is off to a great start in Camp and Pre-season per most observors…
Saints also rolled up over 400 yd in big win over Texans as sdaints scored 4 TD’s in the 1st Half when the Starters were in…
Chiefs M Cassell played well in a the Chiefs loss to the Bucs, he was 14/19 for 125 yds and no Int
with a QB Rating of 108 (he will play the 1st Half versus Eagles next week)
Redskins QB McNabb was 11/26 for 200 yrds and 1 INT and a QB Rating of 55 in a half of play as the Ravens beat up on the Skins 23-3 and were up 13-3 at halftime

Sorry but are you talking about D Jax when you say 50-60 catches… Out of the 2 of them Maclin and Jackson. Maclin looks more like the guy who will turn into the 80-100 catch guy. Jackson is gonna be the homerun threat and Maclin will be guy to catch the 5 to 15 passes. Maybe not this year but thats what he projects to be.

I stated that Maclin would be the 50-60 Catch guy..
I am not sold yet on his toughness and heart to make the tough catches and like I stated, if he continues to run straight up like a flag pole and afreaid to get hit, then he will get injured and miss games hurting his #’s,confidence and reliability…
I think both D-Jax,Maclin are 50-60 catch guys, I don’t see the Eagles having a 80-100 catch guy in Coach AR’s system for they sporead the ball around so much from the 3-4 Wr’s to the TE’s to the RB’s

Yeah Maclin does look like he’s waiting to be hit. He needs to do 1 of 2 things. Step out of bounds if he doesn’t want to get hit or grow some and hit someone before they hit you. Playing like he’s playing he will get hurt again especially when he plays against a more physical defense in the REGULAR SEASON. If he’s scared of preseason contact, I can only imagine how he feels about regular season contact.

He definately is not a punt or kick returner. That stretch with the ball was not even close and when he was about to get hit, he should duck like Jackson. He does seem adverse to hard contact.
