Washington Redskins preseason update

While the spotlight down in Washington is squarely on the antics of DT Albert Haynesworth and his ongoing battle with Mike Shanahan, there are some other developments going on with the Redskins.

First of all, Donovan McNabb is a bit banged up and it could be a little worse than people think. I don’t know that he’s going to miss any significant time, but he does have a sore ankle. He was seen in a walking boot on Monday, but we were told that it was “precautionary.” And while he shed the boot today, he did miss his second straight day of practice.

As of right now, McNabb’s status for Friday night’s game against the New York Jets is up in the air.

And I saw another interesting nugget today from Jason Reid of the Washington Post. Reid said that he wouldn’t be surprised if both Willie Parker and Larry Johnson didn’t make the team.

Most figured that Parker probably wouldn’t make it as he’s been running with the third team and at times has been behind Ryan Torain. But, a source tells Reid that they are not happy with Johnson’s poor productivity and lack of ability to pick up the blitz. Mike Shanahan likes to protect his quarterbacks and won’t want Larry out there if he’s getting Donovan blasted from all angles.

Johnson had four yards on eight carries against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend, and Parker will get a chance to show the coaches what he can do this Friday against the Jets.

Shanahan may end up going with the younger guys in Torain and Keiland Williams.

No way McNabb suits up or plays versus the Blitz-Sack Happy Jet’s Defense…
Shannahan will protect him as much as possible.. They also probably wished they had signed RB
B Westbrook when the had the chance..
My sources tell me that the O/Line is still in flux and a work in progress and that the WR corps has not stepped up so far in camp or Preseason games (D Thomas and M Kelly in particular)
Defensively, there are depth issues at LB and the Safety position… Running a 3-4 Defense will require more athletic LB’s than they have on their roster at the present time…
My original feeling after the McNabb trade and the hiring of Shanahan was that the Redskins could contend as a WIldcard this year. Since camp and the fiasco that is Albert Haynesworth, I now think they will be looking at a 6-10 Season and a strong possibility of no extension for McNabb which means he will become a Free-Agent and move on to Minnesota/Phoenix for 2011 Season would be
my best guess..he may be a 1 and done with the Redskins for this season only..

McNabb is in Minnesota next year unless O’Bama appoints him the czar of football to keep him in town.

At the rate Washupington is going, we might not even get the chance to see Mcnabb this year.

Well Obama can use his crony “influence” to appoint McNabb to fill another one of the Chicago political machine posts at end of season.

The Skins might be really bad again this year. I do not want our old QB to beat us, but I do not want to see him get killed behind a bad Oline with no running game either. He might not still be standing by the time they come to LFF.
