Eagles “D” Line Must Pressure Rodgers And Keep Him In The Pocket

Trent Cole told me yesterday that he plans on doing some hunting on Sunday.  Brandon Graham said he’s dreaming of getting two maybe three sacks when the Eagles take on the Packers on Sunday.  That all sounds good fir the Birds pass rush must do all they can to get after Aaron Rodgers, but they’d better not do it at the expense of playing disciplined football.

Rodgers is an outstanding athlete and he’s capable of getting outside the pocket, buying time for his receivers to get open with his feet, then making throws downfield for big plays.  Rodgers is a big dude, which is why he was able to be sacked 50 times a year ago, but still have a huge year statistically.  He can take a hit and he can break tackles.

The Eagles defensive line must be aware of their pass rush lanes and they must not make it a practice of coming inside and giving him the corner because he will take it.  They’ve got to get pressure on him without losing contain.

He’s got a strong arm, which allows him to make deep throws from any place on the field.  He’s got confidence in his arm as well as confidence in his receivers, so you’re not surprised when you see him going for it.

Rodgers is also working with some outstanding talent.  Wide receivers Donald Driver and Greg Jennings are each capable of getting deep, as well as catching a curl, hook or slant and taking it the distance.  They’re each Pro Bowl quality receivers and they seem to take turns having big games.

Their tight end Jermichael Finley is coming into his own and he’s a beast.  Finley stands about 6’5″ and weighs about 260 pounds.  He’s very difficult to matchup against.  He can outrun linebackers and outmuscle defensive backs.  In the red zone, Finley becomes the Pack’s number one receiver.

We have 2 beasts on the L and R end Huntin for Rodgers. I believe our ends have a phenominal year and graham becomes our next Reggie White (R.I.P.). Screw the rest of the league and every team we play. Our secondary looks good as well. I’m thinking that the D carries us through the first 8 games while Kolb and Co gets adjusted etc; then our O steamrolls the latter half of the season. I’m all in, Lets do this. kick a%# first and take names later.

WWW or how about ball control, 3rd down conversions and TDs in the redzone are keys to winning.

I look at the Packers WR/TE group and they have a big adbvantage over Eagle Secondary
WR’s G Jennings,D Driver and J Nelson are all big, strong and can leap as they go up for the ball,
smallish James Jones is more their slot WR with good hands and quickness and then their TE J Finley/D Lee are a match-up nightmare for most LB’s in the league.. I think they will have to rotate all 3 LB’s on Finley and probably put a spy on him and cover him everywhere he goes (maybe Sims with his speed, Bradley for his size and Jordan for his overall atheleticism..) but someone needs to be lined-up right over top of him and be physical with him at the line of scrimmage and not allow him a “free-release” off the line..
The Packers O/L is in much better shape this season than they were at the start of last season where they had 2 Starters (Clifon and Tauscher) injured and recovering from off-season knee surgeries.. They are healthy and both OT had good camps,pre-seasons from most observors
The Packers weakness is their RB’s who have a tendancy to fumble and do not have breakway speed, but are good receivers out of the backfield and the PAckers probably run the Screen Play as well as any team in the NFL and the screen play has given the Eagles D fits the last couple of seasons.. A big key for the Eagles D is LB E Sims and Safeties Mickell & Allen, all have to play outstanding games for the Eagles to have a shot and Sims who used to play for the Lions would face that Packers twice a season and should be very familiar with their schemes, formations, personnel packagaes. Many are expecting big things from Sims and here is a great chance for him, in his 1st game as an Eagle, to make a big impact.. let’s see if he steps up to the challenge..

Rocko….come on buddy. I love what I see out of Graham, but annointing him the next Reggie White? Guys like Reggie are almost as rare as unicorns. I like your enthusiasm, but if Graham could even accomplish half of what Reggie did, he would be considered a really good player in this league. The rest of your analysis is similar to my thoughts….I just hope we are right about the offense.

G makes a solid point about not letting him get the edge. And the article is about d-line pressure . Not pressure with backers and safeties blitzing. Wanna see Allen off the edge a few times Sunday. Dudes athletic and that should help his confidence.

i agreew ith Sims being pivitol Paulmandomis…word too that. Familiar with scheme and knows there tendencies. Stew Brad should do a fine job of setting the edge. I dont think they’re run game gets goin early.Set em up for a few 3rd and longs early.

Eagles O should make it a point too hit em for a screen or get run game goin early.

How and the Hell people are comparing Kolb to Aaron Rogers when he don’t have the Arm or Athletic ability of Rogers?

Compare ths dude to Bobby Hoying with a weaker arm.

here are a few we should see next from G that the Eagles SHOULD read…….. 1)Jamming a WR at the line prevents him from getting 20 yards on every screen. 2) Not using 2 timeouts in the 1st quarter of every game means having them at the end of the 2nd. 3) Running the ball once in a while keeps 2ndaries honest.

Sorry…. had to get that out of my system. Im ready for the season!!! For us there are 3 keys to every game……1) Get to the QB. 2) Get our short screens a popping. 3) Score TD’s when we get to the redzone. Thats it folks!!!

Of course there can be only one player with there signature moves, but there can be types of that player’s moves/techniques within another player putting there own stamp on there playing. Mark my words buddy, watch how Graham comes off the edges. He’s a beast just like RW.

Stevo, I think Mcnabb have experience playing with sub par receivers and a suspect Oline. He’ll be fine because franchise QB’s know how to improvise beyond a system.

You should be focusing on whether on not Kolb can last behind this O line and whether or not he’ll crawl into a shell once his bell is rung a few times.

Go Eagles.

When the Redskins beat us with Mcnabb having 300 yard passing games ,I’ll wonder what the home favorites will say then.

If we split with the deadskinqs with Jason Campbell almost every year …what do you think will happen now they’ve improved their QB play?

Jason Campbell is better than Kolb…kepp your eyes on this season…

No excuse or predictions of how this team will be in 3 years..for that wasn’t what we were saying after Mcnabb was released.

We are a better team with a better leader.

Stick too it!

I am not worried about the DEs … I am more concerned about the DTs getting a push…

I can see that happening as well with McNabb,
If he doesn’t get off to a good start , then Redksins will be unlikely to extend a contract at big $$
for him..and the Minnesota (Childress factor) comes in and he goes up there for 2 year deal after Favre finally retires after 2010..
The Cards have a young QB named Alex Hall who they are very high on and will probably compete for starters job next season.

PW, on this site some people are ridiculous. It’s like you can’t like both McNabb and Kolb. You have to hate one if you like the other. And people don’t hate McNabb because he’s a Redskin, they just have personal stuff against him even though they don’t know him personally. PW, don’t let other disdain for McNabb and hypocrisy make you dislike Kolb. Kolb is out QB now and don’t let few schmucks on the Internet make you go against him. I do understand how you feel because the stuff people say is ridiculous like McNabb was the worst QB to ever play the game but Andy is the best coach even though he stuck with him for 11 years. But that’s just the hypocrisy. Just don’t let that make you dislike Kolb. If we will dislike Kolb it will be because of how he plays and not because I don’t like his post game interviews.

I am not against McNabb, it’s just he’s a redskin now and thus the enemy. His ankle could be worse than what we have heard so it’s not unlikely he might be hurt before week 4 and not able to play. I like Kolb because 1. I’ve read about this kids history since he’s been drafted and I don’t think he’s a bum, I like the things I’ve seen and honestly believe he will be a great Eagles QB 2. He’s the Eagles QB and I’m an Eagles fan…I support the team.

And that’s a team that’s trying to win now so do you hand it over the Jackson who you’ll take a step back with or take a chance with McNabb to keep you in the run for a couple season. I do think it’s a chance he could go to AZ but just a smaller one.

scorpiodsu

WWW and I agree with you about the McNabb-Kolb. I wasn’t a big fan of the move but I fully support Kolb because he’s our QB. But because McNabb switched teams, it’s not easy for everyone to just stop liking him. I don’t want him to play well against us or win a Super Bowl before we did but I’m not going to act like some of the fools on this site and just bash him because of personal grudges and act like he was the worst thing that’s ever happened to Philadelphia. This is what a lot on here do now because he’s not the QB. And truth be told, some were doing it while he was the QB but then they are the same ones that want everyone to rally behind Kolb. That’s the hypocrisy. I don’t care if people don’t like a player or coach. Just say that and be consistent. The 2 things that piss me off is the hypocrisy and inconsistency. Like people slam McNabb for not winning the big game but then praise Reid for how many times his teams makes the playoffs. If you slam one, you have to slam the other. Period. And those are the things that I don’t like.

But I’m with you, Kolb is our QB and I hope he does well. But right now, it’s just wait and see. It takes a while to become a good established QB in the NFL and from everything I’ve seen, I’m not sure which way Kolb will go.

I was just thinking how great our Eagles would be if we had a front office like the Blatimore Ravens>>>man, they are always in the hunt and draft good and deal through well through free agency, and they don’t have a stupid 31 over the hill philosophy. Imagine if Lewis was on our squad ….this organization would start whispers that he was losing a step and would probably let him test free agency without offering him a contract, and in an effeort to piss him off more…draft a bum and tell the media he’s Lewis’s replacement. Boy…Now that FO does things right.
