Rollins banged up, Phils make some roster moves

Jimmy Rollins is day-to-day after he experienced some tightness in his hamstring in Wednesday night’s 10-6 win over the Florida Marlins. As of right now, the Phillies don’t think it’s serious.

“Our trainer and the doctor, they felt like he was going to be OK,” manager Charlie Manuel said. “That’s kind of the impression they gave me.”

Sigh….don’t get me started. I know, I know. I complain about this all the time. Regular readers of this site know that I’m constantly bellyaching about the Phillies initial reaction to just about any player injury. It’s just some tightness. He has some soreness in there. And then they hit the DL.

I’m not saying that’s what is going to happen here, but at some point, you see the sun come up so often that you just assume it’s going to come up tomorrow too.

Hopefully, for the Phils’ sake, they are right and it’s not serious. Now is not the time to dive back into the injury nonsense that’s been going on all year.

Speaking of injuries, the Phillies also placed Scott Mathieson on the 15-day DL with a strained right lat muscle. He’s made two major-league appearances this year and won’t be missed.

In other news, the club designated Nate Robertson for assignment (thank god) after he gave up six runs in less than an inning of work against the Marlins. His ERA is 5.95 for the season. Ouch.

The Phils also grabbed RHP Cesar Carillo off waivers from the San Diego Padres. The righthander has a 5.60 ERA in 27 Triple-A starts so he should be quite an addition.
