McGlynn to start in place of Jackson

As expected, Mike McGlynn is now the guy at center to replace Jamaal Jackson, who went down for the season in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles really don’t have a ton of options, unless they wanted to call Kevin Mawae and try to coax him out of retirement.

The Eagles could have put Nick Cole back in at center, but that was a disaster last year and I don’t think anyone wants to see a repeat of that. Plus, for the sake of the entire offensive line, they really need to keep as many people in one place as they can.

This is one of the big problems with having a bunch of versatile backup lineman on the roster. Sure, versatility helps. But, when you start shuffling guys all around and plugging them in different places, you lose continuity. And I think we can all agree, this line is just dying for some consistency.

Keep McGlynn in there for the year. Try to get him comfortable with Cole and Herremans so they all know what each other is doing. The Indianapolis Colts have had a phenomenal line for a long time, with no real superstars. They’ve been just a machine of a unit who are all on the same page.

That’s exactly what the Eagles need to strive for here. At this point they don’t have superstars anywhere on this line (Jason Peters does not count, despite being paid like a superstar. Let’s work on learning the snap count first). But, that doesn’t mean they can’t function well as a unit.

This unit has not really had time to gel this year with all the injuries. And believe me, it shows. This line is a mess and, combined with Andy Reid’s play calling and Vick substitutions, could be the beginning of the end for Kevin Kolb. His confidence in the guys up front – or complete lack thereof – is already apparent.

Maybe Doug Legursky could be an option in Pittsburgh. Pouncey is the man there.

Why does everybody keep saying that Kolb has only played one half? He has stunk from the second McNabb left town. Training camp and preseason games. Andy Greed Knows it and thats why he put Vick in so much in the first half.

I could not believe with all those draft picks that the Eagles did not draft a center. The worst organization in sports (the saints) got a superbowl last year. The other pro football team in Pennsylvania has about 6 superbowl throphys. Everyone else in the NFC East has multiple throphys.

Fire the Fat Man. Keep the GM. Bring in Bill Cower and call it a day.

I think Micahs’ right, we need consistancy. Bringing in another player, regardless of talent level, would just be more shuffeling around. McGlynn is the guy and they need to stick with that win or lose.

I am already looking forward to the 2011 draft. paulman who do you see them drafting?

Don Coreyell had a lot of wins. So did Marty Shotinhimer. 10 years is plenty of time for anybody to get the job done. Andy Greed will never beat a championship coach, with his play calling. And unfortunately the Superbowl is always going to have a conference champion in it. A few years ago the Rams opened the game against the Eagles and ran every single play. They stuffed the ball right down the Eagles throat. Andy Greed got mad and responed will a running drive of his own and the Eagles scored. It was a thing of beauty. What is the point of have all those 330 pounders if you won’t run the football? He could do it. He just won’t.

Detroit is not the same lovable losers anymore. There safeties can’t cover but they hit like freight trains. Desean will get knocked out of this game if they send him over the middle, and Maclin is so soft I see him turning the ball over the second he gets hit. Calvin Johnson is twice as good as Miles Austin. Luck for Philly they have a bum at QB. But even a bum(see tony romo) can complete a slip screen. Green Bay ran right at the eagles in the 2nd half and expect detroit to do the same with Bradley out. Gaither (another mr softee) better step up.

This rookie nose tackle for detroit(2nd pick in the draft) has already been quoted saying that they are going to take care of business against the eagles. He tossed Jake Delomme around in the preseason like a ragdoll and does not seem to care it’s against the rules to slam a QB to the ground. He reminds me of Reggie White. He does not just tackle you, he punishes you. McGlynn is no match for him. I am sure Andy Greed won’t leave him one on one like he did Winston a couple of season ago.

With Vick the Eagles should jump on Detroit early and make them one deminsional. If Asante can jump a slant or screen to Calvin Johnson. The game will be over fast. Eagles win. If they let Detroit keep it close the Eagles will lose. Calvin Johnson is TO in his prime with leaping ability. They have got to hit him early and often.

This is a deep draft for QB,DT,CB,DE’s
I am not so sure about OL,RB & LB (there are good ones of course, but don’t think there is a lot of depth)
I am not sure about he CEnter position, but I heard that Coach AR already has invited Dan Klecko to
the Eagles camp for next year to try to learn and play the Center Position for 2011
I heard AR saying of Klecko, “he’s a high motor guy, he’s been around and the guys like him a lot”

Agree totally – no QB will matter behind this line, unless, ironically, they have some serious escapability, which of course turns the logic toward Vick playing until the line settles in some.

i feel you guys, some funny stuff to get us through these articles full of panic and worry. were not as stable or close to where we were/wanna be, but theres worse. all im gonna say is i agree the flaws need to be corrected i always say it starts at the top. but after one official week of football its getting old quick, lets just watch and not be cleveland brown downer fans talking about draft picks already…

Since when has everyone been Anti-Reid? I been calling for his neck for years. Him and Marty. Sean McD is okay but northing like Jim Johnson. Honestly I miss Brad Childress. Maybe Reid wants to be fired… his play calling has changed over the years. We were good when we had calls for the big play aka flea flickers, deep routes, Screens etc. we have become a 10-15 yard passing team which we are not.

I have not watched much of A Luck but I think he is projected (as of now) the 2nd best QB in the country behind Locker who I love. I really wish we could have signed Marc Bulger who has had a very good preseason and we missed out. He is injury prone but I got to believe he is better than Mike Kafka

I personally like A Luck better than Locker and Mallet
I like how he stands in the pocket and delivers the ball (he reminds me of a Phil Rivers/Joe Flacco type)
who has good feet and can shift away from pressure..but all 3 of these I think will become pretty good NFL QB if they get with the right team, coaches, etc, etc,

WMonell- I have always been a college football fan before the NFL so seeing the players for me get drafted and where they are going is exciting for me. I have no interest as of late in the eagles because I have lost faith in us ever winning a championship as long as this FO is in place. Me offering my opinion isnt going to change anything

Paulman I dont know too much about Luck but Locker I think fits into more of what the eagles may want. A BIG arm and he can run. a white a young white mcnabb if you will..

Dont get me wrong I care about this season I just dont have faith that we will win this year. I dont even plan on going to a game this year (besides the jets preseason game) and thats a first for me. I see us still going 7-9 but washington is looking ever so sexy right now with that offensive line. Trent Williams is going to be a probowl player and possibly the best OT in the NFL. I know its one game but he dominated the cowboys.

please fellas continue to keep it real, but be honest also, look out there at the teams in the NFL and our schedule, and tell me deep down behind the recesses of your comtemp for Reid and the FO, and your dismal feelings about the first half of game one, that you don’t think that this team can (perhaps will) have a good season. We can win, and I believe we will win. If not you guys know that I will be back on here to correct myself in public no shame in being wrong, just in not facing it, or worst not being honest about it. Based on just the first game I see alot of teams who could totally different than last year. at this point the cowboys, redskins, Vikings, 49ers, cardinals, even packers don’t scare me…..thats just how I feel my two cents is worth a penny and I am throwing it in. GO EAGLES

Back on topic to start out..
I actually thought McGlynn played pretty well coming in cold like that last week.
I have more confidence in him at Center that some of the others guys playing along the line (Peters for example) but McGlynn will have his hands full taking on Shu who just manhandled the Chicago Bears Center/Guard Combo last week.. The Eagles better run the ball a lot more this week
The Key and Strength of the Lions Defense is their Front 4 and their Safeties… Their LB’s and CB are inexperienced and just not all that good, so the short, intermediate routes, sideline routes, and passes to the backs out othe backfield should be open and available, but do watch their Safeties for L Delmas will lay the wood across the deep middle and is very agressive in his play and can be beat deep (if there is a threat of a running game)

Monolith agreed, thats why I always say that preseason predictions are pointless. And that’s why I say predicting failure for any team or players is silly because everything changes so much in the league.

I heard HArtwig had a workout with the Colts who have CEnter J Saturday hurting and getting older and may also try to see if HArtwig can play a little Guard… The COlts O/Line is really bad this year and probably the weakest in talen since MAnnings Rookie year and will be their demise.. They spent all their $$ of Skill players that they have let a few good O/L walk …
