Will McCoy And Bell Get It Done On The Ground Tomorrow?

The cat is out of the bag concerning the Eagles game plan for the Detroit Lions.  They’ve simplified the attack and they’ve added running plays.  It will likely mean more running plays and less passing.  This is being done in anticipation of what the Lions defense will do as a way to stop Michael Vick.

Detroit will probably try to prevent Vick from getting outside of contain, so that will mean keeping their ends outside as a way to corral Vick inside, but that will open lanes up the middle and off tackle for LeSean McCoy or Mike Bell.

Anytime Vick hands the ball off, he’s going to come out of that motion and run outside like he’s got the football.  That will prevent the ends from falling back inside and helping on the run.

Atlanta used to do that with Vick and that was one of the reasons they led the league or were near the top of league in rushing year after year with him.  His speed puts lane pressure on the defense.

McCoy and Bell may have big days or the running plays may open up things deep for Vick to get the ball to DeSean Jackson.   A running game and a strong-armed quarterback with speed outside equals play action passes and deep throws.

Once the Birds run the ball and see the safeties creeping up to help, Vick go with the play fake and get it deep to Jackson or Jeremy Maclin.

Vick got all the reps this week and says he feels good and is ready to roll.  “It’s my first time practicing with the first team, trying to get chemistry with them, and just get on the same page with those guys”, Vick said yesterday. “You have go out there and you have to get reps. And you have to just go out there and practice hard and try to be efficient in practice, and try to envision yourself at game speed and doing things that you are going to try to simulate in the game. So, it was great to get out there with the first unit and get the reps all week, and feel good about my preparation.”

They’re going to run the ball more than they did last week, but you and I know that doesn’t mean the Eagles are going to stay with the run very long.  Vick must continue his new found ability to stay in the pocket and run the offense.  He must take care of the football and keep the freelancing to a minimum.

Whether the Eagles get it done on the ground or through the air it doesn’t matter.  Sunday’s game is all about finding a way to win for Vick, McCoy, Bell and the Eagles.

I think they can get it done, IF ANDY RUNS THE BALL. With the Lions ends having to hold their laines because of Vick, it should open some nice holes for McCoy. I think he has shown that he will hit a hole now instead of dancing around. But they have to be committed to it. Andy abandons the run way too quick. Or even if the pass game is working for a stretch he forgets all about it. The key will be balancing it out through the entire game. I think we will see a lot of runs mostly because I think we will be up by double digits in the 4th. For future games, I would like to see them keep it balanced all games. Of course, that’s pending that we aren’t getting whooped.

Michael Vick will get pressured from the start of the ball. He will throw at least 2 picks in this game on eagles territory making it easy for the lions to score. Mike Mcglyn cant not contain the lions pressure which has improved a lot. A very low scoring game 14-9 lions. Eagles coach Andy Reid will say again I need to do a better job and go home and eat a tub of butter like the fat pig he is.

Detroit is a stronger team this year, the their secondary can’t cover pinic table. They hit hard, but the Eagle reciever should be open all day. Detroit’s rookie nose tackle is a beast and if he slams Vick to the ground the way he did Jake Delome in the preseason, we are going to need another QB. If Vick does not get hurt the after a close 1st half the Eagles pull away for a blow out. They are still talking about the Calvin Johnson non TD call last week, so Detroit will come out on fire, but with a backup QB the Eagles DL should light him up all game.

Vricchini, are you saying a touchdown and a field goal for the Eagles or just three field goals? Hmmm just wondering, So uh 14-9 is that you final answer? Bash-Bing-Bong- Pow- slap, sorry brother I had to beat that thought down and kick it to the curb. Ol’ Mike is going to do well in this game at center, and the defense alone might match your 9 points. Vricc you are most times on point, don’t go Eagles-Packers first half on me brother, don’t go to the darkside. The Eagles will handle the Lions, and the defense meaness will evolve to a whole new level. Mark my words and if i am wrong I will be back to tell ya so.

Did anyone see Mike Vick in the preseason games? at times he looked horrific. now that a team has a week to game plan for him what does that say about his game this Sunday? I think the lions WR core is either equal or as good as ours and if the lions secondary stinks then what about ours? ellis hobbs? hanson? you think they can cover Calvin? cmon. The two starting QB’s are on the same level as far as starting a game for the 1st time in a long time but ppl confuse the lions with that 0-16 team. They are not that team anymore.. 14-9 lions eagles do not get in the endzone.

At least we have a good QB behind center….Kolb be out have been our saving grace.

ok and what if he doesnt? these two teams are in a very simular situation. Both starting QB’s went down. There is questions in both teams secondary our DL improves their D line improved. their WR core is good like ours so this team to me is evenly matched right now. It could go either way but im taking the lions.

The Key Defensivley is get pressure early and often on Lions QB S Hill, who is no slouch and won’t be wide-eyed starting out as many think.(His record is 10-5 as a Starter and many in San Francisco still wished the 49ers kept him and got rid of Aelx SMith instead but that’s another story for another time) Heill a classic pocket passer, and when given time can get into a nice rthythm and throw some very accurate passes, HE has a strong arm and throws a very good intermediate pass (15-25 yards). He has some weapons on the outside WR C Johnson and the senaky N Burleson, He also has 2 good TE’s in Sheffler and Pettigrew and the rookie RB J Best to come out of the backfield…
What he does not do that well is to scramble and throwing well on the run, He also also has a tendency to lock-in on a reciever and force some passes (sound familiar…) Anyways, he is not a bad back-up and has experience starting and winning in the NFL, if many of you think he will be intimidated or a deer-in-the-headlights waiting to get hit and sacked, you will be dissapointed..
He could probably be a Starter for some teams around the NFL

I must be going crazy, every time I come on here I hear how every team the Eagles are playing that week they are vastly improved, their receivers are better than ours, our “D” will not beable to stop them blah, blah, blah. I will say it again we have a very nice team and there is only a handful of teams I think that could honestly put the booty whipping to us …the Saints, Colts, Patriots, Ravens; Some teams will take us to our breaking point….Chargers, Steelers, Jets, Cowboys( Cough, cough, did I just say cow…. choke, groan). Every other team is suspect with their own injuries, weaknesses, poor players etc. etc and so on. So fellas if you are scared just say so. Sorry guys it is Saturday my boys play tommorrow and I am Koolaid drinking, know body is raining on this parade. We can go 8-8 yep that is possible, but the only teams that worry me is the colts, Titans, Vikings, and Cowboys, other than that the games can go either way. I am thinking 10-6.

To Monolith
I thing you are living in the 2009 season
The Cotls are not the same team and may be looking at 8-9 wins themselves with that O/Line and
Defense that will now be minus Safety B Sanders for the year… The Jets are overrated, the Chargers
are hurting at LT,WR,DL and secondary is average..
The Cream of the crop this years are the Saints,Patriots,Ravens,Packers,Cowboys, with up and coming teams like the Redksins,Falcons,Texans,Titans, & don’t forget those Giants ..

Has anyone noticed the extreme shift? During the entire off-season, we heard that Kolb would make things easier on the o-line because of his ability to quickly read defenses and because of his accurate passing.

Many people were adamant about this.

Now, those same people are saying, “We don’t know what we have in Kolb, and he deserves a season or two to prove himself.

Would be great to run the ball, but this OL is (at least to date) not great at run blocking. And that was WITH Jackson in the middle. Can blame the Fat Man all you want, but one can’t run without some horses in the middle. Having said that, it should be easier with Vick at QB due to reasons G/PM (and probably NavyEagle) mentioned previously. But all this talk… let’s see how they play.

G needs a game day open thread so people can discuss the game while it’s going on. All the other blog sites do. It’s a no brainer.

On a side note, Vick looks good out there. He’s staying in the pocket, hitting the receivers and no one throws a prettier pass than he does. He may actually be better than ever.

I go on vacation and come back to chaos and a qb controversy. I actually have more questions about this team now than I did during the preseason. The D looks okay today, but its the Lions. OG is not really much of a replacement for Bradley, so that factors in as well. The O is scoring some, but it is the Lions. Plus it is a banged up Lions D which makes it even less likely that we can take that much out of the game as being gospel truth. It kind of feels like a day to just be happy they do not look like they are going to lose to an awful team and be happier that Dallas looks like a mess. Maybe the Giants will lose too.

Vick is the truth….I don’t want to hear that this is just the Lions…..Vick have picked up from where he left off last week against a good Green Bay defense and this offense is potent with Vick…I don’t want to hear our weapons must be wasted until Kolb catch up…that’s madness!!!!!

The Lions 2nd string today looked better than Kolb..and Vick clearly again was the best player on the field 2 weeks in a row.

If we sure up the special teams…this team can beat anyone…

This job should be Vicks to lose and if he continue to play the way he’s been playing there’s no need for Kolb. Let’s not waste our talent…..this team can win 10 games easy with Vick and I wish these losers stop saying this team is 8-8 at best with Kolb or Vick …that’s a lie!!!!!

With Kolb we’ll be lucky to win 3 games

The D needs to get a kick in the rear end…I know that much. I know Hobbs got the int and all but do we need to start Lindley? Just wondering because that rcb spot still seems kinda shaky; also why isn’t patterson or bunkley getting any sacks hmmmm? mccoy looked good getting in the end zone, but he needs to hold the ball a little “high and tight”. That last touchdown he ran with the ball rather loose and away from his side. Just my critique. The O did a great job today starting with Vick – He played well and spread the ball around to everyone; Three of his top playmakers scored, and we’ll be looking to get celek and avant more involved (If AR gets it together). Good job B-

What benefit was it for us to make the skins better? Allen at Safety?

Boy…this damn front office is ridulous..If I was going to rade Mcnabb he would be heaving passes from South of the Border…not my division….I’m excited about Vick who is really the bright spot of our team but for the life of me I’ll never get this front office.

Songs, I agree. McNabb is lighting them up right now. If you were going to trade him, you don’t upgrade a team in your division. They will regret that move and regret it even more if Kolb turns out to be bad and Vick leaves for free agency. It will be the worst move in franchise history.

Vick should be the starter. Kolb should have never been given the job. Period. Next week, he’s going to get killed against the Jags because of the o-line. Vick gives the offense life and the young guys look up to him because he’s out there taking shots just like they are and giving 100% every play. Not saying Kolb didn’t but it’s more noticeable with a guy like Vick. If we somehow lose to the Jags with Kolb, Vick better start against the skins or we will get killed.

The best QB on the team won’t be the starter. Forget “This is Kevin’s team”. He did nothing make it “his team”. You earn than on the field and not in practice or in camp. I don’t care what commitment they made to him. QBs lose their job all the time when someone is better than them. And it’s not like Kolb is an established QB in this league. He could be Matt Leinart. Given the starting job but have a veteran QB behind him who’s clearly better and deserves the job. With Vick, we have the best chance to win the division.

That’s just it. Just win the div. We want a SB. Maybe we should start Kolb, win 3 games and get a high draft pick.(of course trade down)but aleast we would have more picks to get talent in here. it’s just an idea rather than finish 10-6 every year than pick 27th or 28th. Barely beating one of the worst teams in football the last two years shows we need alot of better pieces to the puzzle. If we continue to make the playoffs(sometomes barely since 04), just to lose. Then we still are wasting Jackson’s and other talent on the team. We need a pocket passing qb. Cunningham,Mcnabb,Vick are scrambling qb’s and they just do not win SB’s.

Stop hating….Steve Young is the example we can use for a better experienced Michael Vick. He can kill you from the pocket or on the run..

Look at the game again…Kolb would get murdered behind this line…But Vick can pass for almost 300 behind the same line…What does that tell you?

tydm, you are an idiot. There have been a couple teams who have won or made it to the Super Bowl in the last decade with average or bad QBs. If you can get that far with average or bad QBs you can do the same with a mobile QB. The key is having the rest of the team being good. And if you would have watched the game, you probably would have noticed that Vick was clearly a passer and McNabb hasn’t been a running QB in years. There’s a big difference between being mobile and being a running QB. If Reid converted McNabb from being a running QB to one who became a passer but still used his mobility, there’s a chance he could do the same for Vick.

Jackson’s talents didn’t look wasted today. Once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. Who in the NFC right now looks unbeatable? No one because it’s week 2. With a guy like Vick who is most likely a better QB than he was in 2006 when he was leading garbage to the playoffs, you have a chance to beat anyone. Go with Kolb and it could be the biggest mistake ever. You’re one of those joke fans that want to tank a season for something that MIGHT happen. Go with the guy who you KNOW can play and not the guy who MAY be able to play.

I’ve said all along that Brady has not been the same since his injury. As much as he “hates” the Jets, here are his stats:

drummerwinslow

The bottom line is that Kolb looks a lot more like Hoying than he does Montana. He’s got 4 TDs, 7 INTs and 5 or 6 should-have-been interceptions.

Also, he’s failed to score during both the pre-season and regular season.

In one of his so-called “good games,” which he lost 48-22, he threw 3 interceptions and the game was over 3 minutes into 3rd quarter (when he had only 1 TD).

The most telling factor, however, is that Kolb looks like every game is being played on “fright night.” He just looks scared.

And the Cowboys uh, did any body see that thus far (Well to tell the truth I dang gone dreamed about it all summer..so yeaaaa).

My second thought is we had better get over our old notions of weak teams and big advantages becasue just about every team (maybe not the raiders) has some exceptional talent on their team, players who can hurt even good teams. Let the lions be am example to not blow anyone off. These are real men with bonofide talent and they are showing up to play more and more. So I am not blowing any team off anymore, and to all you guys who told me the lions were vastly improved, to you I say job well done on your read i stand corrected. QB completion percentage is overrated especially if the QB doesn’t have the best completion percentage BUT is winning games. You guys keep reverting back to 2006. This isn’t 2006. Let it go and get over what Vick used to be. The reason why QB completion percentage is overrated because that doesn’t show how the mobile QB who runs on 3rd and 3 and pick up the same first down that the non-mobile QB dumped off to the running. Both plays result in a 1st down. Only difference, is one of the plays boosts one QBs percentage. Stop pulling useless stats. It’s about as useless as Kolb’s garbage time yards against the Saints. How about pulling out how many first downs a QB is responsible for whether run or pass. Completion percentage is a joke when you don’t look at the entire picture.

And again, from everything so far, Vick looks to be pass first and run second. So stop dwelling on the past and look at what’s going on now. You guys are the biggest haters ever. You want the Eagles to win if Kolb is in there but if he isn’t, let’s tank the season. Hypocrites to the 10th.
