Eagles Wide Receivers Are Ready To Go With Michael Vick

Andy Reid was the target yesterday, but after going in the locker room yesterday, it’s hard to single him out as the only person in the organization, who thought it was a good idea to make Michael Vick the starting quarterback.

“I wasn’t really surprised”, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin said when asked for his reaction to the switch at quarterback.  “You can’t argue with the way he’s (Vick) been playing.. You just can’t.  Two games now in the second half of the Packers game and the way he played in Detroit. You can’t argue with.”

The receiver on the other side of the field didn’t come across as strong but DeSean Jackson did say he thought the move was made because of the way Vick had played.

Jackson couldn’t help but gush about Vick’s ability to extend plays.

“He keeps a lot of plays open,” Jackson said about Vick, amongst a large circle of media people in the locker room. “You can’t ever really give up on a play when he’s out there because you never really know what’s going to happen. You see it a couple times. He scrambled and still was able to make some big throws. So that’s good to have a quarterback that can keep plays open like that.”
When he was asked about Vick’s abilities, Maclin marveled at his arm strength.  Remember both Maclin and Jackson’s ability to make plays deep is contingent on the quarterback being able to get the ball to them.

Maclin then voiced the thinking of many of the players in the locker room who grew up watching and idolizing Vick.  “If you watched him before his incident and the stuff he’s been through, he was one of the most exciting people to watch in the league and on top of the game and almost in a way the face of the NFL as far as just the stuff that he did,” Maclin told us in a corner of the locker room. “Everybody kind of watched him and went, ‘Wow, that guy is definitely special.’ He’s kind of getting back to form.”

Wide receiver Jason Avant got some laughs when he talked about not being amazed by Vick’s talents because he had used him to throw for 500 yards in a video game.

Iight G, we get the point. Mike Vick is the starting QB of the Eagles and the team loves it. NOW START REPORTING ON SOMETHING ELSE! Like what the Jags bring to the table and how our defense will have to stop MJD!

The receivers knew all along that Kolb was bogus. Big mistake drafting him and Reid is lucky to have Vick. O Line sucks. It’s a shame Reid can’t put a good line together to save his life. Kolb is the future of the franchise, oops sorry, he needs more work than four years. What a group of talent evaluators.

Yeah lets focus on the real problem with this team–the O line and the Defense

And how about getting on Reid to RUN the DAMN BALL –or he will run out of all 3 QBs and Feeley and Garcia will be holding press conferences –McCoy looks like he can handle the load

That’s a more ridiculous statement than I usaully make Big E,
I expect R Cooper to see more action and more balls thrown his way for he and Vick seem to have a godo rapport with each other and they have worked together all camp/preseason..

The key Defensivley is to pressure Garrard up the gut and make him move laterally for he is not known for throwing well on the Run.. Also, the Jags lost their back-up QB for the Season last week
(L McCown) and have a 38 year old Veteran named Todd Bouman who was signed Monday and will be the back-up who has never thrown an NFL Pass…So the Eagles really need to Pressure Garard into poor throws and get him to the ground…

If Kolb is traded I wonder what all those people who bought his jersey are thinking. Jersey shopping tip #1: Never buy the jersey of an unproven player. Ever.

Kolb will be an Eagle all year and depending how Vick plays over the next 4-6 weeks will determine who the #1 QB will be for the next few seasons for Eagles..
If Vick plays well and the teams plays well and wins, then Vick will get a Contract extension and will be the #1 QB next Season and beyond and Kolb gets traded after this season is over ..
If Vick plays only average or worse and the team is losing, then he’s a goner after the Season and then Kolb takes over in 2011 and mayve even the end of this season if the Eagles are out of Playoff contention

Paul Man….now come on….I saved some of your qoutes too buddy and you’re not in any position to say what the organization will do with Kolb before the deadline. You were saying Kolb must get more time to show he belongs and Kolb’s the future and you also said Vick would not be here next year. “G” said it a million times that you can’t listen to what they say but what they do. Obviously the organization have been concerned with Kolb since the preseason and have a plan if he’s not the player they thought he would be. Listen..Garcia is still out there, so if Vick is tearing things up within the next few weeks with our team atop the NFC east, don’t be surprised if Kolb is traded so the Eagles can recoup something back from that draft (trading down with Dallas in the 1st rd to acquire Kolb).

Vick is very young in QB years and if he’s explosive with pocket presence…He will be the Eagles quarterback for the next 5 years. Reid don’t have another 10 years with the Eagles for he’s already a dinosaur in coaching years… Now, he actually have a healthier, faster Mcnabb….This is what Reid wanted.

Cleveland needs a QB and we have one they’re familiar with..We can trade Kolb while there’s still a market or have them wait for Michael Vick. Which QB you think we want to give them? I think Reid told us Tuesday.

Please save your time Songs on saving my quotes,
Most posters know that I am over the board on most topics..
I just posted under another thread, that I could see the Eagles Trade Kolb to the Browns for a 2nd or 3rd Rd Draft pick and back-up QB S Wallace who is very familiar with AR/MM WCO and would be a fit for the Eagles O. Jake Delhomme is too old and cant move and Kafka is much more advanced with the Pro Game than Colt McCoy is and has a much bigger, better arm than McCoy who will probably be out of Football in 2-3 years (Colt is very similar to a Brady Quinn as far as skills but is a nicer person that people like as opposed to Quinn who is a whiner and not much of a leader from most sources)
one last thing, please forget Jeff Garcia who hasn’t played Football in almost 2 years…

Uh, by the way, I know we’ve been having a real dandy time talking about one player for five days but uh, OUR DEFENSE FU**ING BLOWS!!!..A push up the middle Paul?..that’s a hoot!!..I’d like to see that too..this defense is lousy against the run..AGAIN!!..Anybody notice what Pittsburgh is doing with their QB situation?..Oh you didn’t?..That’s because it doesn’t matter if you have a real NFL DEFENSE and RUN the ball..Hey look Im just as excited as the next guy about what Vick brings to the table and all..but if you cant stop the run, get consistent pressure with just your front four and run the ball down the opponents throat your not going anywhere..

Spot on Jimmy,
The Eagles plan of attack the last few seasons on how to stop the opposing teams from running the ball appears to get a big lead on them (example last week versus the Lions where Eagles are up 35-17 so the running game becomes non-exsistent) The problem with this Strategy is that it’s rare for the Eagles ever to have a 2+ score lead on anyone (mayve 1 or twice a year against a poor team but you can’t count on that)

Jimmy, our D almost beat Green Bay. I don’t see them as nearly as bad as you do. I just don’t.

And for those who think Kolb might be traded/want them to do it. Uh, hello, we need a backup on our team. If they thought that Kolb had any inkling of a shot to be a decent starter, why would he not then be the best option for a backup? That just doesn’t make any sense to me. Why would a guy like Seneca Wallace (to use paul’s example) make a difference. How could a career backup from another team (that we would presumably have to get in return for Kolb), be any better behind this line, and not knowing the offense, than Kolb? It just doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s like Pualman wanting to trade Tapp – depth is needed on a football team. Just because you anoint a new starter, doesn’t mean you ditch the backup.

If you look at the stats from the detroit game, the Eagles didn’t have that bad of a day versus the run at all. The linebackers, however, had a terrible game. I’m not very concerned about the D v. the run going forward at all.

I don’t think Kolb will get traded this season. He knows the Offense if we need him to play so there is no “learning curve” with a new QB. Now weather he executes the O is another question.

Schiller, I’m not sure what you mean that our D almost beat Green Bay, were we watching the same game? The Packers blew the game open by scoring 27 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarter of the game. The bottom 6 teams in the league are giving up 27 points per game. You will lose more games than you win if the other team scores 27 points.
Green Bay started slow, a few incomplete passes, a few 3 and outs.
Once the got their groove going 15 minutes into the game, they owned us.

Yeah E. Schiller so kindly points out that Vick cost the team the game by throwing the ball instead of running it in. It had nothing to do with us getting blown out and the fact that we wouldn’t not have even been in the game if it wasn’t for Vick. Vick cost is the game according to him. Well if we are going to do woulds coulda shouldas, if Kolb would have played better in the first half maybe we would have won the game. Or if Ellis Hobbs didn’t become a turnstyle and let Jennings run right by him. Or if Brandon Jackson didn’t run the ball all over our defense we would have one. See I can do that too. E, you are correct, the defense has a lot of work to do. No way you’re giving up that many points per game and expecting to remain a good team. It’s not happening.

Our defense blow the last game for sure, but hold on fellas, the “D” is going to find its place and sooner than you think, watch and see, so stop and don’t panic, the defense will do us all proud. Them hold a team to 17 points, days appear to be fading as a league full of offensive studs on just about every team dang near demands that the points be heaped upon all defenses. okay I am waiting for more data befor I stand on that theory put it could be. What do you guys think, BUY OR SELL

When Reid said that he told Kolb that he couldn’t guarantee him that he’d be on the team past the Oct 19th trade deadline, I believe that was a sign of things to come. If Reid can find a back-up (who’s not afraid to play quarterback in the NFL), Kolb is gone.

It doesn’t matter what his skill level may or may not be. If he’s scared to play, he’s no good to us, and Kolb is very afraid.

Big Red has a terrible record against the AFC, and this game is on the road. Do not be suprised if this game is a loss, and if SuperMan does not maintain his level of play. Then what?
