Kolb And Vick Are Sticking Together And Moving On After Decision

I take my hat off to Kevin Kolb and the way he has maintained a tremendous level of class and professionalism during this time.  I know it’s been a tough time for him and it would have been easy to contest his coach’s decision.

“It’s something I didn’t expect. I don’t think anybody expected it,” Kolb said. “There are some changes. Part of being an NFL player is being able to adapt to those changes and still making it work, so that’s what I’m in the process of doing right now.”

I give Michael Vick credit for accepting the promotion humbly and doing a good job of not being loud and arrogant about his promotion.  I have been through this situation as a player and you never know what the future holds, so as teammates you must stay together.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and very humbled by the opportunity and at the end of the day I want to win football games”, Vick graciously told a group of reporters at his locker yesterday.
Vick then went on to talk about his relationship with Kolb.  “Me and Kevin spoke, and we spoke last night and we agreed to both continue to push each other, try to get better, we both know our futures are bright.  We’re just going to stick together and push through”.
As NFL players we always knew that there was no reason to get mad at our teammates for decisions that the coaches made.  For example here, there’s no reason for Kolb to be mad at Vick because it wasn’t Michael Vick who made this decision, it was Andy Reid who made the call.

Players are paid to play and coaches are paid to coach.

Kolb wasn’t the first player to be benched and won’t be the last.  His teammates know that you run the risk of losing your job if you don’t play well.  For most of the guys on the team it was just another day at the office because they all know that they’ve got a job to do next Sunday.

They don’t have time to make a big deal about the decision at quarterback, they’ve got to get ready for the Jaguars.

Old man G up at the butt-crack of dawn! Good morning to you, sir!

I actually lifted an eyebrow and nodded when I saw that Vick clip on CSN. “Push through together”? That’s pretty tight. I didn’t expect that. Good stuff, Mike.

Does anyone think that starting Vick could be a ploy to put him on display for a couple weeks so they can trade him and go back to Kolb? I don’t think so but you never know with this FO nowadays. Nothing seems too far fetched.

I think Kolb will be fine and this may be the best thing that’s happened to him..
With the way that Vick plays and the issues along the Eagles O/line,
It’s very unlikley that Vick is goign to take every snap for the rest of the season..
Kolb needs to keep his head up, keep working and be ready when called upon which may happen more often and sooner than many think..(Vick may have to tone it down a bit running out of the pocket as much or at least slide down or get out bounds to avoid taking so many hits..)

I think the issue was whether a) Vick could get back his physical skills and b) continue to progress in the mental and technical part of the game. He has done both and could be better than he ever was. Plus he has the best chance of staying alive behind that O-line.

To Scorp,
I think they are giving Vick to not only be the #1 QB now, but if he plays well over the next 4-6 games,
then they will probably lock him up with a 2-3 year deal, then they will look to move Kolb after the Season is over. Coach AR is trying to win this Season and I think they will need both of these QB’s on the roster for the entire 2010 Season for Kafka obviously isn’t ready (unless an emergency happens) and to bring in another QB is just not feasible at this time

I agree Paulman. Just throwing that out there because with the way this team waffles and operates, it wouldn’t shock me. If it did happen, I can see media now writing how brilliant Andy is. It would be interesting to see if Kolb could be traded before the deadline or wait until the end of the season. And just bring in a career backup who’s been in the league forever. I mean they may only need 2-3 more games to see if they want to go with Vick for a couple more years. Not likely, but wouldn’t be surprising.

Would you trade Kolb for Colt McCoy?

They ought to be more worried about the pathetic O Line rather than this QB controversey

Vick the most mobile QB in the league took 6 sacks and one fumble Sunday

How long is he going to last unless something is done about the O line

First off Reid better start running the ball more and keep the constant pressure off the QB no matter who he is behind this line

Hell we may see Garcia and Feeley if the sacks keep up

True Scorp
The Browns are Ga-Ga over Kolb and would probably trade Back-up S Wallace and a 2nd Rd or 3rd Rd darft pick to get him… Colt McCoy is probably destined as a Career Back-up (like a Brady Quinn)
talk about Kolb’s lack of arm strength, McCoy has a intermediate throwing arm at best..
S Wallace has played for M Holmgrem for years and is very familar with the WCO version the Coach AR/MM run so there would be a lot of familiarirty, Wallace is a solid back-up who is a good teammate and locker room guy from all reports and would not be a threatening type of back-up to have.. I could see him being Vick’s back-up for the next 2 years until Kafka gets up to speed..
If you can get a 2nd Round pick from the Browns (which will be a top #37 pick overall most likely)
I jump on it and take it in a heartbeat

Kolb will be traded before the deadline if Vick continue his tear and we’ll sign Garcia who would actually be a better Back up to Vick than Kolb.

In the meantime….Let’s sing

“EBONY AND IVORY – LIVING TOGETHER IN PERFECT – HARMONY

SIDE BY SIDE ON MY PIANO, KEYBOARD, OH LORD” , “WHY CAN’T WE”?

Garcia is retired and doesn’t want to be a backup. Feeley is on a NFL team. Folks, neither are available to just pickup after trading Kolb. If we were to trade Kolb to St. Louis for Feeley, that’d be dumb, a downgrade, and it would mean we’d have to trade a backup for a backup – hence, we really wouldn’t get much value for Kolb. He’s our backup, still being groomed for more in the future. Get over it.

Yeah Paul I agree. Wallace could be just as serviceable as Kolb as a backup if you plan on keeping Vick as your starter for the next few years. If they feel that strongly about Vick, I’d rather get Kolb out of town asap so he can begin his career somewhere else to get ready to start some games later this year and become the starter next year and more importantly get the controversy gone. But like I said, that’s only if you know you want Vick for the next few years. If so, no need in keeping Kolb past the deadline. If you don’t know then it’s going to be drama all year long.

scorp, but wallace doesn’t know the offense, and it’s not a guarantee he’s available. Do you really think that there’s an available better backup QB than Kolb? If there is, they’re giving up on the Kolb experiment after less than half a season of starts. I don’t think they’re ready to give up on Kolb.

Here’s the bottom line with Coach AR,
He really doesn’t know what he has at the QB postion.. really.. he’s rolling the dice with Vick and no one still knows if Kolb can cut it or not, Coach AR know’s he has issues with along the O/Line and is also not real sure that his D/C (McDermott) is really up to being a Top-Notch NFL Level Coordinator yet.
Sounds like a formula for disaster and it’s only Week #3 of the Season and he’s has just come to this conclusion…. not good any way you look at it .. though I am 100% behind the decision to start Vick for he gives the EAgles the best chance to win now…
