Sixers send Green and Smith to the Hornets

For those of you that were sick of seeing Willie Green walk out onto a basketball court for the Philadelphia 76ers, you’ll be thrilled. Green, along with Jason Smith, has been shipped to the New Orleans Hornets for 6′ 9″ Darius Songaila and 6′ 10″ Craig Brackins.

Finally, the Sixers have been able to pull even with the offseason moves of the Miami Heat.

“We made the move for these two players to add additional depth to our front court and to add out-court shooting, which was an area that we felt needed improving,” Sixers president Rod Thorn said, per Philly.com. “Songaila is a hard-working, veteran forward who will give us another option up front and Brackins is a rookie that we feel has a chance to develop into a very productive player at this level.

“On behalf of the Sixers, I want to thank Willie Green and Jason Smith for their contributions and professionalism during their time with us.”

Songaila is basically just a guy. At least Brackins is a 22-year old former first-round pick (21st overall). Then again, in the NBA, that really doesn’t mean much.

Good move for the club, who has gotten a little bigger and more athletic out on the front line..

I agree about Ed Snider being a terrible owner for the Sixers,
but hopefulle with new President R Thorn (who knows how to build a team) and Coach D Collins,
that they re-build this Franchise back up the right way with solid, good young players who can improve together..I think they are on their way and Collins will have playing about .500 ball this season with a shot of being a #7/#8 playoff team in an improved Eastern Conference..
