Eagles May Be Without Right Guard Nick Cole This Week

As if the Eagles need more problems on their offensive line, right guard Nick Cole is missing in action at the Friday practice according to Philly.com.  Newly acquired guard Reggie Wells is lined up in Cole’s starting right guard spot.

He did practice earlier in the week on Wednesday and Thursday, but couldn’t go today.

Cole had been bothered by knee-swelling and missed most of training camp.  He got back into the lineup in the week one battle with Green Bay and also started against the Detroit Lions.

It’s no shock to me that he’s battling an injury because players who miss a lot of time in training camp because of an injury, usually have more injury problems during the season

If Cole were not to be able to play, Wells would probably take his spot, which could mean more pass protection problems for the Birds.  Many times offensive linemen don’t get the chance to discuss how they’re going to block a certain defensive front before the play because the defense will move into a certain lineup a split-second before the snap of the ball.

Offensive linemen have to know the guy next to them to the point where they know how he’s going to react.  It’s not a stretch to believe that center Mike McGlynn, Wells and right tackle Winston Justice don’t have that level of communication.

This will cause problems if the Jaguars defense times their movement into their blitzes.  They could cause the Eagles “O” line to have  some mental errors.

McGlynn struggled making the blitz pickup calls last week in much the same way, Cole struggled a year ago in those Dallas Cowboys games.

Michael Vick had better get that Superman costume cleaned before they head to Jacksonville.

I think John Runyan and Tra Thomas are both available. I’m guessing these 2 former tackles would both be better guards even at their current age than any of the current guards on the roster.

It’s Vernon Wells Time,
Let’s see if he’s ready to step up and play
I do think they WJ needs to get reps at the Guard position, which is hard to do once the Season Starts, with game-planning,recovery,etc,etc… But the Eagles appear to have some depth at Tackle where K Dunlap or A Howard can play RT and have W Justice move to RG (which I think he is much more suited for )
I think this may be the plan moving forward this off-season anyways, but they may want to take a look at trying now…

Nick Cole has been missing in action the whole time he was starting at guard.

I’ve said that too PM, move WJ to RG and start AH at RT…but if VW excells at the RG spot we might not have to do anything. This is yet another telling week in Eagle Land.

OMG! Nick Cole is hurt! This POS is useless. One of the reasons I can’t stand Reid is his insistence on undrafted FAs who can’t play well, starting on this team. Nick Cole, Jamal Jackson……enough with this shit. These clowns were undrafted for a reason. And this fool spent counltess picks in Rounds 3-5 in the last 10 years and he got Herrmans to show for that.

Reid already anounced after practice that Cole is still starting this Sunday. Although we all know how far his word goes…

And Paul, its Reggie Wells. Not Vernon.

The great and highly talented Cole will be missed. I mean when he was out there that line was stout. I mean just as stud. Oh, wait you said Nick Cole? I thought you said Trent Cole. Nevermind. Good riddance.

Every year Reid overlooks something and this year is no exception. I think Pittsburg got Pouncy and picked up Flozell Adams. This thing about signing free agents with injuries, drafting injured players and counting on players to come back from injuries too soon is rediculous. If Vick gets hurt forget about it.

Big e your correct on that! i knew this was going to be an issue this year!!! The eagles should have atleast drafted a guard or two in the draft this year but they focused so much on defense that you didnt get men to protect your so call franchise QB!!! Now you got vick out there going 2 be running 4 his life out there trying to make plays to help us win but i hope reggie wells fits well with our offensive system!! Juan Rivera should be fired he hasnt proved him self as far as a coaching the offensive line!! And this sooooo call good strength and conditioning coach wtf????? Well he must have skipped the offensive lineman in that department!! We got rid of dead weight Andrews and now there’s still an issue i dont understand andy reid welcome 2 the world next year when you file for unemployment through this economic crisis!!

We resigned Max Jean gilles 4 what reason idk!!! He’s another guy that im shocked who made the roster and you have a guy like hartwig who played for the steelers and you let him slip away and then you have kevin mawae who just retired who would have been great for this team!!! and what about hank fraley he knows the system as well as anyone!!! But you pick up trotter last year and you wont give none of these guys a shot at playing for the eagles!!! I dont understand!!!! The Eagles always talk about age but you need a veteran “a leader” but nooooooo you let go a guy who would have been solid on special teams “Kelly Washington” you keep hank baskett and then release him and like i said you picked up trotter last year but you wont give these guys a shot!!!

I’m not sure for some reason I have a secure feeling about the protection this week.

They resigned MJG purely because he got Lap band surgery. I am wondering whether Austin Howard might work in behind the guards better though, I thought they had him playing guard in pre-season.

I heard thru a pretty reliable source,
That MJG got the Lap-Band Surgery because “BC & BS of PA” has a “Andy Reids” waiver for a Free
Lap-Band procedure by any member of the Phialdephia Eagles by Oct 1st…

I told everyone earlier this year that the Eagles GM totally ignored the O Line (The weakest part of the team) in the draft. What were they thinking? out of 13 picks we have 3 Starters? Where’s the defensive fastballs Roseman drafed to mimick the Giants big draft year? We didn’t get big time DT help on Special teams aces, no Corner for Hobbs position, and totally ignored the O line, trade Andrews right before the season withut quality depth. Kevin Mawae have played his whole life in the WCO and know all the blitz calls but they will not sign him. Why? He’s working with the players union during an important contract year with the threat of a lockout and they do not want him influencing players to stand against the owners this off season. Michael Vick was the right decision so we better hope he have a lot of heroics left in the tank…He’ll need it.

Juan Rivera does stink. He’s the only coach in the league that makes(Justice,MJG) All-Americans, and (Peters) All-Pro play worst. The Eagles scheme is flawed. DMacs feet saved them in the past. Kolb was a concussion waiting to happen. Darn right he had “happy feet”. Now he has a happy head, because he really does not want to start any more. Pain does that to a man.
