Flyers Release Tryout Guerin

According to CSNPhilly, veteran forward Bill Guerin has been released by the Flyers. Guerin had been skating with the Flyers and seemed like a lock to make the team prior to the start of training camp based on his record, his leadership qualities, and his two Stanley Cups. He did not have a particularly impressive camp, though, and the organization appears to be leaning in the youth direction for their 13th forward. Which forward has made the team has not been decided yet, and it’s up in the air as to who the organization has the most confidence in.

Reports are also coming in that goaltender Johan Backlund has been placed on waivers, which means that 22-year-old Russian netminder Sergei Bobrovsky has made the club as back-up for the foreseeable future. While Bobrovosky has a two-way contract that will allow the team to send him to the Phantoms or recall him as needed, Backlund is on a one-way contract. If Backlund is called up during the season, he will be exposed to re-entry waivers and may be picked up by another club.

Is this a Philly website??? Why the hell am I and a guy from the Carolina’s the only ones who notice hockey on this site? No other Philly blog is like this…. anyway, Josh, I’m surprised by this. Who do they really expect to bring up that’s better than him? Nodl? There’s a reason Nodl’s been an emergency call up the last two years. A $1 Mil price tag would be a horrible reason since it’s next to nothing. Bobrovsky’s huge contract have something to do with this move, maybe?
