Eagles Offense Will Be Facing A Very Good Defense On Sunday Night

This Niners group was supposed to be running away with the NFC West with Kurt Warner out of Arizona.  Instead they haven’t won a single game.

Head coach Mike Singletary has been on the verge of  busting another vein in his neck in anger on the sideline, as he watches his Niners squad lose again.  Alex Smith is still struggling as their starting quarterback.

They’re extremely desperate to get the monkey off their backs.  The Birds could be walking into a disaster on Sunday.  You know what will be said if they become the first team to lose to San Francisco.

At today’s news conference with the local media, Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was raving about the quality of the 49ers defensive talent.  He talked about their toughness and how they had played extremely well in three of their four games.

Mornhinweg and head coach Andy Reid know that their backs aren’t far from the wall.  They surely don’t want to head back here in the wee hours of Sunday night and Monday morning knowing that they’re 2-3 with that tough schedule ahead of them.

They’ve got to find a way to get Kevin Kolb and this offense going early in Sunday night’s game.  This football team is built to play with a lead.  Can they score early points with Kolb?

San Francisco’s Pro Bowl middle linebacker Patrick Willis isn’t taking anything for granted with Michael Vick sidelined and Kolb starting.

“I’m not going to say I’m jumping for joy because you always want to play against the other team’s best,” Willis said. “But at the same time it’s part of the game.

Willis and the rest of the Niners front seven is the strength of their defense.  The other linebackers are very good and they include former Eagles Takeo Spikes, Manny Lawson and Parys Haraison.  All of them are big, strong and fast.

They’re going to be coming after Kolb.  If he can get the ball out of his hand, he can have success against this secondary, but he should be careful about throwing at cornerback Nate Clements, because he’s a very good football player.

At the start of yesterday’s news conference,Mornhinweg the former Detroit Lions head coach was immediately hit with a question about his take on Kolb throwing checkdowns against the loose two-deep zone which the Redskins ran.

He was somewhat non-committal about how much Kolb should throw the ball down the field and how often he should take the check-downs.

Mornhinweg supported Kolb but also said they had some shots downfield but didn’t take advantage of them.  He stressed that they need to be efficient by getting all the yardage they can get when they decide to check the ball down.

He then emphasized that they must take advantage of the situations when they get a chance to hit a big play downfield.  I figured he was talking about the time Kolb missed DeSean Jackson on a corner route in the Skins game.

The guy who calls the plays for the Birds during the games didn’t want to give up too much about their running back situation.

Nobody knows whether LeSean McCoy, who has a broken rib is going to play.  Bell took most of reps yesterday, and McCoy didn’t practice.

Mornhinweg singled out the second-year running back for his toughness and how he played the second half of the game against the Redskins with a broken rib.  According to the coach,  you couldn’t tell he was injured by the way he played.

With McCoy likely to miss the game, Mornhinweg says he’s confident that Bell can do the job.  I’m not as high on the former New Orleans Saint, as the offensive coordinator is.  I see trouble ahead for any team depending on Bell, who looks like he’s running in quick sand nowadays.

Looking back on the way his offensive line played against the Skins, Mornhinweg questioned some of the holding calls.  He thought his players might have taken a couple defensive players down, when they didn’t have to.  He knows they must play better.

Personally, I’m anxious to see what the Eagles will do in their game plan in order to get Kolb going in the offense.  Their season could be hanging in the balance.

Willis is licking his chops…..for all those Kolb sympathizers that claimed
Vick beat bad teams……….

49ers 0-4…..a Good QB smells blood in the water and take all hope from a team without Victories but I have a feeling Kolb is just what the doctor ordered to get the 49ers in the winning column.

I’ll adjust my original score…..49ers 29 “Kolb” led Eagles 13

This game will take all excuse for Diaper Boy off the table…

Schill …Paul…..copy this post and paste it next Monday

Hmm, the Birds have not shown they can stop the run, Frank Gore is the next rb on the schedule. Vernon Davis is going to be running past our new/old SAM linebacker, and Michael Crabtree is on the 49ers as well. The Eagles Oline doesn’t block well and the best rb we have is hurt. It hardly matters who the Qback is, you do not have to be the Amazing Kreskin to see that they are in trouble here, Kolb or not. Akers is better than their kicker, though, so we have that going for us.

Would you rather have Childress or Reid as the Philadelphia Eagles coach?

Remember we had Jon Gruden as our offensive Coordinator under Rhodes? We chose Reid instead of keeping Gruden…Gruden have a chip.

Now, who would be surprised if our other offensive Coord. gets a chip before Reid?

He better get it together and form a serious line around Vick next year and commit to the run…by the way…the Vikings have Moss back in a trade with NE

Game Plan, Game Plan, Game Plan that is the important thing. (aww crap we ARE screwed)

Mike Vick just proves that Andy Reid has been pulled out of the fire by a QB that can exit the game plan and create on his own for years.

I hope this is the last year of the Reid and Morninwood show. Bring in a TRUE new era in Eagles football with a new ball coach.

I was hoping all off season that Kolb would step in and show me that all it took was a guy who could run the system and execute. Nope the system allows for 100 yards a game in penalties and some weak soupy football.

If kolb doesn’t win this game and light it up Reid should be clearing out his office and vick and kolb should be traded. We should let a new coach come in and select his guy at QB and start over next year.

SONGS Gruden left the Eagles for Oakland before the 1998 season. Rhodes was fired after the 1998 season and Reid was hired in 1999. So how exactly did the Eagles choose Reid over Gruden when he ws under contract with the Raiders? Don’t let the facts get in the way of your opinion I guess.

Not to beat a dead horse, but McNabb won without receivers and when Westbrook was hurt, too. We still have our all-pro receiver and young upstart. We’re not going into this game “weaponless.” And it’s not like Andy Reid ever ran the ball before.

When I reflect on all that the “Young Tongues” had to say, when no football was being played, this team seems eerily quiet.

Now that I think about it, McNabb is still winning with no weapons, although he no longer carries the team.

It seems that some are positioning themselves for excuses. Whenever the Eagles lost before, it was ALWAYS the QB’s fault. Does that thinking still hold true?

rcp

I seem to remember Vick connecting with his receivers at some time during the season. After all, one is all-pro and the other broke the rookie record.

My point is that we have weapons. Now would be a great time to see those quick reads, hitting people in stride for the maximum yards after the catch. It’s time for our “franchise QB” to step up and earn some of that $12 million.

Another ugly game by the Eagles Offense with Kolb at the helm and I don’t think McCoy will even play and if he does will be at 75% at best.. M Bell is not a adequate option in my opinion …
Field position and good special teams will determine the outcome and unfortuantely, this favors the
49ers, for they are better suited for this type of game. I expect a loss and the score to be 17-13 49ers
with both teams offenses held to under 300 total yards of offense..
Turnovers and penalties will also be key, which again probably favors the 49ers since the Eagles continue to be one of the most penalized teams in the NFL
The best shot I see for an Eagles vicorty is a quick start and stopping F Gore and 49ers rushing attack and put the game in 49ers QB A Smith’s hands, similar to Kolb, he has happy feet, bails out of the pocket too soon and does not have a strong arm, though he can scramble and run better..
Both teams could be looking at 15 First downs and minimal plays of over 15-20 yards which will end up being a game of attrition, paitience, and a lack of mistakes,(turnovers, penalties and field postion)
With the Ways the Eagles Special Teams and in particular, their coverage teams, the big edge goes to the 49ers…

Sources are saying the Eagles didn’t get lynch from the Bills because they didn’t want to give up a coveted 3rd round pick in next years draft.

Word haves it, that there’s a rushing linebacker that fits the 3-4 perfectly that Reid would like to exhaust that pick on and convert him into a cover linebacker. We have to hold on to those valuable picks…you know?

We had 13 of them this year…..How many of those 13 panned out?

Why are we not talking to the Pats about aquiring Mankins? Hasn’t this team been playing with 2nd team talent for long enough already. Nick Cole cannot get it done, he a stopgap, fill-in if a guy gets hurt. Mankins is sitting at home, he could change the whole dynamic of this team. Draft a young center next year, or replace the RT and you could be back in business.

The Eagles gave Kolb 12 Mil for what??? # 10 who is clearly your best receiver and most explosive weapon on the team cant get paid. what gives??? this team needs to be blown up immediately starting with the defense and AR and his entire coaching staff. we clearly have weapons so there are no more excuses. you cant blame # 5 anymore. so it has to be the coaching staff and his 2nd round pick Kevin Kolb. I will say this again we will be lucky to win in SF on sunday. Fire ANDY REID NOW!!!!

Why do you think the lions got rid of Ernie Sims???? He is a bum!!!! First of all he too small and I dont give a damn how fast he his, what good is speed is you always overrun the play and are always out of position to make a tackle???? Dont think for a minute other NFL teams dont know this about him! AR constantly misses on draft picks, free agent acquistions are busts and now get this they are moving Fokou back to Sam Backer when clearly he had been demoted in training camp WTF??? I could have told you # 56 is too small to play SAM. what is up with merry go round thinking at the LB position?? this clearly indicates desparation. in the end if we had a HC who has a physical mentality and puts a big physical team on the field every sunday we wouldnt be talking about this. We blamed the qb years ago because the team was always good, and it makes sense to blame the qb when a team is good rather than bad. Eagles barely made the playoffs last year, and most people realized it was not 5’s fault, the team just has no O or D line for past few years. We really have been detereating since 04 and even then we did not run or stop the run very well.

tydm..I digress

With Vick this team is good.

Just got finished looking at the nfl breakdown on “check down Kolb” with receivers running wide open and the offensive line giving him much time..He scanned the field standing upright and actually look at the receiver wide open and check it down.

We will not accept excuses in a wide open NFC…. This team can be good enough to compete this year in the NFC.

We just need Vick back asap and “Baby arm” the hell outta here.

Mr. Cobb, Marty Mornhinweg the man is not as high on the former New Orleans Saint as press conference Marty is. I know you know he has to say that.

Bell is in a NFL nolight film waiting to happen. I think he injured himself on purpose so that we could not see in training camp what a bum he is.

49’ers jump out to 10 point lead in the First quarter
RB McCoy does start but gets re-injured in the 2nsd quarter putting him out for the next 3-4 weeks. Eagles get a long field goal before the half to make it 10-3 at Halftime
49er’s run a punt back for a TD in the 3rd Quarter and go up 17-3 basically ending the game
Special Teams Coach April and player M Fokou mix it up on the sidelines and have to be separated by Harold Carmichael & Duce Staley
Kafka comes in the 4th period and leads 2 scoring drives for 10 pts making the final 17-13
D-Jax is shown on National TV arguing with Coaches MM and WR coach Culley and is benched in n the 4th quarter. The leading Receivers are R Cooper and O Schmitt
Kafka ends up 11-16 for 125 yards passing against a “prevent defense”
Kolb and Coach AR both claim “larangitis” and skip post game interviews..
Coach B April is taken to St Francis Hospital for multiple lacerations,a broken jaw and a black eye.

The AR Meltdown has officially begun and the Eagles Front Office is called in for an
“Emergency Meeting” Monday morning in Jeff Luries Office

Rcp please stop. You are embarrassing yourself trying to come up with reasons why Kolb isn’t a bum. Maybe one day he will develop but as of now he stinks. Get over it. This week will hopefully put this kolb nonsense to bed. I never want the birds to lose so I do hope he has a great game but from what I’ve seen I have no faith in that happening. We need the D to step up big until Vick gets back. Birds 16 Niners 10 in a snoozer.

I disagree with Songs
The Eagles are still not a good team even with Vick
They are better with Vick than with Kolb, but this team has more leaks that the “Titanic” had after that
iceburg/sumbarine hit. They may win 7-8-9 games with a healthy Vick and win 5-6-7 games with Kolb, Either way, this teams O/Line, lack of Depth at RB,TE and a smallish D with below average LB and an average Def Secondary isn’t going anywhere anyways..

Actually the niners didn’t look too shabby in the first few quarters against the Falcons. They scored 2 touchdowns in the first quarter. If this defense can’t stop the run I don’t see us having a chance of winning this game. Also, I am sure they looked at last weeks game against the skins, and well its gonna be open season out there when the Eagles have the ball. If KK can’t throw the ball longer than 3 yards its gonna be a long night.
