Will Brian Westbrook Get Revenge Against The Birds, Like McNabb?

Last week Donovan McNabb got the taste of some sweet revenge, when the Redskins beat the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.  This week another former Eagles will get the chance to do the same.

Former Birds star running back Brian Westbrook is a member of the Niners, even though you could hardly tell it by looking at video tape of San Francisco’s first four games.  Westbrook has only had one run for no gain and two catches for six yards.

As you would expect, Westbrook isn’t happy with the way things have gone, so far.

“I’ve been playing in this league a long time and I’ve made a lot of different plays,” Westbrook said. “I know I can still do those things.”

“Obviously, I haven’t had an opportunity. Hopefully, this week will be the week when I get some chances where I can make some people open their eyes and say, ‘We should’ve gotten this guy on the doggone field a little earlier.”

“It’s definitely frustrating,” he said.

Word is that Westbrook will play a bit on Sunday which could mean problems for the Birds.  Every Eagles fan knows that BWest is capable of making things happen on 3rd down, when I would expect him to be used.

He could allow Alex Smith to quickly get the ball out of his hands, therefore it makes sense to use Westbrook on a screen or short pass out of backfield.  If he gets out in the open field, he can and will make something happen.

Since Westbrook was an Eagle, this will be the one player Ernie Sims will be able to hit hard in a game.

McCoy is playing with cracked ribs. I told you G. Marty was just being polite. Bell Stinks.

I remember when Andy Greed sent Akers out to kick-off after he injured himself on the previous play. No sense at all. McCoy will be out for 4-6 weeks after the 49er Linebackers hit him today.

G, I know its ur site but please, mcnabb didnt get revenge. He threw for ten byds in the second half. He is done. Kolb had a better game than mcnabb, and kolb sucked. So please g, take ur mcnabb love affair and do something with it. Id rather listen to florio hate on the eagles than read ur articles praising a qb that doesnt have it in hin anymore to play at a consistently high level.

G. So what the Redskins won the game. Had McNabb been a huge reason, then you could say he got his revenge.

He was traded because the Eagles believed he is on the downside of his career. To get revenge, you would have to prove them wrong. Did he prove the Eagles were wrong for trading him?

jonathan, you and others are missing the point. Mcnabb on the downside is better than 100 Kevin Kolb’s, so we are not trying to hear reasoning that makes no since.

If you are going to get rid of a player for a worse player it can only hurt the team which is the reverse of what we’re trying to do…WIN!

We can care less about the reason the Eagles chose to trade mcnabb if it means our team becomes worse.

No. This thread\article is about McNabb and revenge. We are not missing the point. We are talking about the actual topic.

As for the other, I don’t really care that Kolb wasn’t ready or not. Vick proved to work out so that works for me. Vick >>>> Current McNabb.

I agree with JonathanS, McNabb was traded because the Eagles believed he was on the downside of his career — and he is. I believe the only players they really missed on were Burgess and Dawkins — all the rest that they have let go of have been right on point.

The Eagles wanted to see what they had in Kolb, they weren’t going to be able to do that with McNabb on the roster. Surprisingly, Vick has shown that he still has plenty of football left in him. We will move on with him. Not everything turns out like you expect it to.

Paul man – got real busy this week and didn’t post – my son is in North Carolina this weekend – visited Wingate and Queens, drove through Catawba – now up in Greensboro – going to lax tommorrow – he also has Lenore Rhyne (Hickory) looking at him, will also check out Pfeiffer – but I think he is looking at Queens of Charlotte. Gotta love that Carolina Conference…

PaulY Read my previous post. I repeat Reid will be here for the next decade, and the Eagles will be correspondingly screwed for that period of time, until we get a football oriented owner with a pair of balls.

@GCobb

If you want to talk about what we actually replaced Mcnabb with was the person who picked him off. Bottom line Mcnabb is a choke artist, if the pressure would have been on him he would have choked. Yea so what, he squeeked one out. He can thank his running game.

Anybody else watching the phillies and not the eagles? I know I am.

Is it me, or are the articles becoming less and less here lately…
Anyways, here’s Paulman’s Picks for Week #5 (Overall recored of 35-27)

Bills over the Jaguars (Bill win their 1st game at home)
Bengals over TB Bucs (TB fast 2-0 start becomes a distant memory)
Falcons over the Browns (Falcons squeeze out a close game)
Lions over the Rams (Lions win their 1st game in a shootout at home)
Colts over the Chiefs (A closer game than many think, Cheifs run the ball effectively)
GB PAckers over Redksins (Both teams come in banged up,but Packer w/too many weapons)
Bears over the Panthers ( Bears win boring game with back-up Collins, Panthers can’t score)
Ravens over Broncos (An exciting game down to the wire and Flacco has big 2nd half)
Texans over NY Gaints (A 2nd chance for Texans to beat a high-profile NFC East foe at home, this time they play well and take advantage of Giants secondary and LB’s)
NO Saints over Cardinals (Cardinals going with Rookie QB Alex Hall for his first start, how bad this team has looked since Warner retired, Brees has a big day passing)
Chargers over Raiders (Chargers too balanced offensivlely for the Raiders and win a close one)
Cowboys over Titans (Romo and WR’s have a big day versus secondary, Cowboys beginning to get on a roll and play better football, Cowboy defense smothers V Young into many mistakes)
NY Jets over Vikings ( A close, lower scoring game but Jets win out as Jet’s D pressure is too much for Farve to handle..

SF 49’ers 17 – Eagles 13 – a tough hard fought game but the Eagles shoot themselves in the foot with a slow start, too many penalties, shaky Special Teams plays, qustionalble play calling, and of course, terrible game-clock management resulting in the loss..

Every article has to turn into a McNabb love/hate fest. Personally, it doesn’t matter whether we think he got revenge or not. It depends on how he feels on whether he got revenge. For some revenge means destroying them on the field and to others it means being the starting QB of the team that won. Who cares really. G is right, if he would have had 400 yards 3 TD and still lost we would be talking about how we’re glad he’s gone. Just like when the Redskins lost to Houston, Eagles fans who shouldn’t even be concerned still wanted to point out how McNabb can’t “close the deal”. Move on.

Anyway, to the point of the article. G, I think it depends on how much BWest is apart of the winning effort if they wins. I mean if he doesn’t do anything then it doesn’t matter. There’s a difference between being the starting QB of a team and the 3rd string RB. Also, BWest wasn’t traded and replaced by someone who still has to prove himself. So there’s a difference there as well. I think this game will be close but I think the 49ers win close because I just don’t think we have enough big plays to win this game. I hope I’m wrong.

Paulman’s Top Teams in the NFC COnference going into Week #5
(And this was really hard to do for the NFC has so many under-achieving teams right now)

#1) Falcons 3-1 (Have been the most consistent and only loss was to the Steelers in Pittsburgh in Week #1 in a close game)
#2) Saints 3-1 (Are not hitting on all cylandirs, but playing just well enough to win, issues, injuries
at RB need to be addressed for them to be able to compete to defense their SB Title)
#3) Packers 3-1 (Most dynamic Offense in the NFC, have more injuries at OL & RB and their defense have given up big leads to Detroit and was not so strong versus the Bears in back to back weeks)
#4) SL Rams 2-2 (That’s right, the SL Rams have beenin every game so far which is a credit to thier Coaching staff that Spags have put together, Bradford is playing smart beyone his years with an average O/L and WR corps, but this team fights and plays hard all 60 minutes)
#5) Redskins 2-2 (Having a 2-0 Record in the NFC East Division is the only reason I have them listed
but who else is there…)
#6) Bears 3-1 (I am not sold on Jay Cutler who is having a good season so far, but they were manhandled by the Giants last week and now Cutler is injured, leaving this team out in limbo..

Teams like the Cowboys & Vikings I expect will improve as the Season goes along and have big games this week to improve their standing and chances, but I see a lot of 2-2 teams like the Eagles,Giants,Seahawks and even teams like the Bears, Bucs who are simply just way to inconsistent
to be legitmate Playoff Teams. The AFC is far Superior this season with solid teams like the Steelers,Ravens,Patriots,Jets,Texans all playing good football so far and with teams like Chargers and COlts who will be there by season’s end. This NFC is terrible this years and does not bode well for the Eagles future if they cannot even compete against weak NFC Competition

Bad start for former Eagles today. Dawk got beat on a bomb down the field, the old Qback let a shotgun snap go through his hands to lose 20+ yards, and a bad missed pass.

Great 1st half by the Birds..
Kolb looks sharp and has spread the ball real well to all the recievers, McCoy looks very good and the
O/Line is playing their best game of the season so far (outside of Dunlap giving up a sack)
Defensively, PAtterson is playing well as is Dixon in the MIddle, SIms is also playing his best game as an Eagle so far and Fokou is active, playing physical..
Good play calling so far, now they need to sure up the Coverage teams on Special teams and protect the ball and keep the penalties to a minimum.. Let’s go Eagles..

Haters, where you at? How bad is kolb? Andy can’t runt the ball. The d can’t stop the ball. Ha, nope. And for all the asante haters, see the difference? His tackling issuses aside, what is so overlooked is how he makes oppossing offenses avoid throwing his way. Without him, the passing d isn’t as strong….
And where are the maclin haters? Just curious. I’m waiting for the excuses…(the 9ers are winless, so it was weak competition…), but G said it, that is a good D in SF.

Yes “G” did say that, and he can’t take it back without losing some crediblity, so we played well against a good defense, enough said, Gcobb has the last word end of story. The division is looking interesting.

Shiller your right, our pass-d dropped off withou Samuel, so let those who have eyes see. I like dixon up front, i think its time for a DT contraversy, 🙂 later Bird Nation.

Stars of the Game
Offense — Kolb, McCoy, and Center McGlynn, RG Jean-Gilles and RT Justice all played very well.
(Downside is that Celek continues to drop too many passes, EEagles could have broken the game open
late 3rd Period/early 4th if he can make some of those to put the game out of reach)
Defense — Patterson,Dixon,Parker & Tapp all played well, Sims was very active and his best game so far,and Fokou also played a strong game.. Secondary overall played well and takcled well for the most part and make some nice timely Int’s ,Safeties were strong again and did not all any over the top
Downside– LB Bradley cannot cover the TE on the seam Route, he was no match for TE V Davis
and maybe they should be looking at a longer-arm,more athletic LB like Fokou to cover in obvious passing situations…
Special Teams Coverage teams continue to really be poor and this needs to get corrected or it will cost them a game or two as Season progresses

Paulman, you are discounting the fact that Celek deserves credit for singlehandedly sparking that first scoring drive! He isn’t perfect and mad some mistakes, but he executed that early blocking, blocking, ‘oh got ya, I was just slowly moving down the line pretending to block and now I”m wide open’ play. Then there’s the play where he did miss the block, but he had the presence of mind to get open for his best buddy Kolb to dump off the ball to, and what did that lead to? The first touchdown – a critical play because otherwise, the O starts off flat and we’re playing from behind.

Celek didn’t have a perfect game, but he was there for Kolb as a safety blanket and we all know that Kolb plays at his best when he is hitting Celek. He also had some great block/hustle plays like when Avant caught the ball for a first down in the redzone, stayed up while two 9ers where trying to take him down, and Celek jumped i9n to push the pile. He’s an asset to this team. You’re just cherry picking some negatives that he’ll learn from.

Paul Mancini
Paul Mancini
October 11, 2010 9:32 am

Celek made some good plays as usual,
but he dropped 3-4 passes that he usually makes which could have put the game away if he comes up with them and they would have been tough catches and were good passes by Kolb even in tight coverages.. I will continue to call them as I see them…
I noticed he is bobbling and dropping a lot of passes this years that he has caught in the past..
