Soul to host open tryouts

Still think you have something left in the tank? Think you can still play football at a high level? Well, you’re in luck. At least, you might have a shot. The Philadelphia Soul have announced that they are holding open tryouts on October 30th, with Vince Papale, head coach Mike Hohensee and his staff all in attendance.

“We are looking for high-character people who are good football players,” said Ron Jaworski, Philadelphia Soul Co-Majority Owner. “We will go to any means to find them – we will scout AFL rosters, NFL rosters, CFL rosters, UFL rosters, NCAA rosters. Our goal is to put together the best roster we can. If we can find a player who might have slipped by some other teams or other leagues, that’s fine. Dick Vermeil did the same thing back in the day and that brought Vince Papale to the Eagles.”

The tryouts begin at 7:30 AM at the NovaCare Complex and it’s $60 before hand, and $80 if you register the day of the event.

“It’s about opportunity,” says Papale. “I applaud the Soul for sharing this opportunity with their fan base. Now it’s up to those people who want to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their abilities and create something for themselves.”

Players will be evaluated on their 40-yard time, broad jump and short shuttle, with other position-specific drills and one-on-ones to follow. If you see John Carney somewhere, tell him to stay home because kickers aren’t being evaluated.
