Eagles Dominate The Falcons, As Kevin Kolb Shines

This was a great game for the Birds.  Kevin Kolb had a great game, throwing for 326 yards while completing 23 of 29 passes with three touchdown passes.  He presented some strong evidence to suggest that he should be the team’s starting quarterback.   Kolb had a quarterback rating of 133 for the game.

If you think there were arguments about the quarterback position before this game.  It’s going to get stronger after a performance like this one from Kolb.

I think it’s going to allow Andy Reid to postpone Michael Vick’s return until after the bye week.  He’ll deny it but I think it will affect him.

He started out the game by hitting Jeremy Maclin on a crossing route.  Maclin lined up to the right and ran a deep crossing route behind the linebackers and in front of the safeties.   On the next play, Kolb faked a handoff to LeSean McCoy but handed the ball off to Jackson on a reverse.

Jackson hit the corner full speed and was going into the end zone before the Falcons knew what hit them. It was a 31-yard touchdown run and DJax broke a couple of tackles to get into the end zone.

When the Birds got the ball again they drove for another score.  This time it was culminated on a Kolb to Jackson 34-yard touchdown pass.  I thought it was a great design by Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg.

They had Jackson line up in the slot and run a post route.  The Falcons didn’t jam Jackson as he came off the ball, which is totally foolish.  Immediately you had Jackson and the outside receiver going deep with the safety in a can’t win position.  Kolb put it up and Jackson ran under for the score.

On the third Kolb touchdown pass, Kevin threw a great pass on an outroute to Maclin, who grabbed the ball with his hands for the touchdown.

On the fourth and final Kolb touchdown pass, they tricked the Falcons secondary by faking a reverse.  The cornerback and safety on that side fell asleep.  Maclin got behind them and Kolb hit him for an 83 yard touchdown.

It was a great day for the Birds, especially for Kevin Kolb.  Let’s see what Andy Reid does next week at the quarterback situation.

Like I said earlier, maybe they should fly Kolb’s father in for every game. Seemed like a good influence!Kolb getting better every game. Wasn’t it nice to watch the Birds just run out the 4th Q. 17 runs and 3 passes. I’ve been waiting fora 4th Q like that for a long time.

Wonder how the VickVickVickers are going to react?

Does Kolb still have a rubber arm? Can he still not make the throws? Has he still “showed nothing to show me he can be an NFL QB” etc etc.

Paul, love ya brother, stick with the panthers though, and I offically (And Thankful that you were not correct ), will ignore every prediction you make from now until the second coming. If I understand you now i am guessing that you have us being beaten by the Titans next week.

Relax Paul just funning with you brother, enjoy the win Eagle Nation, we deserve as fans to have a good and relaxed week. And someone I forget who called it beutifully with the Eagles winning and the close score prediction. Gotta to go now and Watch the Vikings game, and pull for them. Die Cowboys, die Redskins. I’d say die Giants but they beat me to the draw and won, oh well.

No hating fellas, I am just damn glad we have two potentially good QB’s to work our team. This is not about either one, I believe in both guys. Kolb gets it in an interview he stated that palying swing games with Vick would not effect him at all. Don’t know if that is true but he is putting his team face forward and for that he gets my respect.

I am leaning towards Vick, but as all of you have heard me say, I hoped always that Kolb would have a career day this week and last week.

So I am not down with any QB conflict anyone wants to create in the media. Our QB’s are competitive, they are friends, and they are down for the team. So let go, and let Eagle!!!!

I am not going to get carried away over one game, but I dang sure am going to enjoy the hell out of it starting right now, later brothers.

As always LONG LIVE THE EAGLES

So now Joe Montana, oops I mean Kevin Kolb is the new rave. Atlanta is a good team, but they were horrible today. The GAMEPLAN was great today. Kolb played great within the system. As long as everyone does their job he will be fine. I still believe Vick is the better QB, we will see.

Special teams played well and the Falcons did not have the good field position like last week

On the other hand Kolb had pretty decent field position most of the day and made the most of it

Great win

Too bad about Jackson

Banner ought to give him an extension with $$ upfront –He earned it

Great overall game from the Eagles and all their Coaches.
The Offense had the Falcons on their heels most of the game with good play calling, but more importantly, was executred very well by the players. The Defense did what they had to do and stopped the Falcons from rushing effectively and had some pressure on QB Ryan. They kept TE Gonzo in check for the most part. I think we can put to rest that Kolb can’t throw the Deep Ball or run the Eagle Offense effectively, for they pretty much moved the ball up and down the field on them all game long except for a couple of drives. Take Aker’s Missed FG’s and this game was over in the 3rd period against a pretty good team..
My Stars of the Game Offensively
Kolb,Maclin and the entire O/Line and especially K Dunlap who played a very strong game and kept Abraham out of the backfield the entire game except for about 2-3 plays. McGlynn/MJG/Justice all played very well again and are really starting to jell on that right side, the more they play together.
I thought Avant had some nice catches and Celek finally got out of his funk in the 2nd Half and caught everything that came his way after a slow 1st half, which is a very good sign.McCoy ran hard but did revert to a little much “stutter stepping” instead of running thru the holes quite a bit. FB O Schmitt was solid in his blocking and Buckley got some nice tough yards to ice the game away..
On the Defensive side of the ball, they were many players who played a strong game..
DE T Cole, A Dixon,D Tapp were all agreesive and playing hard to the whistle and MLB Bradley played his best game of the year and was making sure tacles and very good in pass coverage..Sims and Fokou were very active and helped string out runs to the sidelines. In the Secondary, Mickell had his best game of the Season and Samuel was very agressive and made some nice tackles & plays on the ball. Hobbs & Hanson both made some plays and both also got burned a few times but all in all, kept everything in front of them and the Defense as a whole tackled very well.I noticed they had 3 Safeties in a lot of the time (Mickell,Allen & COleman) and only went with 2 LB’s when the Falcons went with 3 WR sets, this seemed to maintain coverage in the middle of the field and negated any Falcon WR getting free and running deep and open down the field.
All in all a very good win agains a good ball club who they will compete for a playoff spot against..
At 4-2 with a tough road game coming up next week, it will be another test of playing a good team with one of the best RB’s in C Johnson, but Eagles have all week to prepare and worry about that and should savor this Win for it was very solid perfomance from the entire team. Congrats to the Eagles

Songs, where you at? Haters, where you at? Do people still hate on Maclin – if so, WHY? And all those calling for King Dunlap’s head….. do you NOW see why jumping to conclusions is foolish? Where’s the “the Eagles can’t stop the run” people? Where’s the “Eagles can’t stop TEs”s people? – Sure Gonzales wasn’t ‘shut down’, but he was stopped enough to win the game comfortably.

Hobbs haters?

And Paulman, didn’t you want them to get rid of Darryl Tapp?

I’m not saying that I told you so on any of this, but I did ‘tell you so’ about jumping to conclusions and ‘hatin’….

Songs? Scorp? Big E?

OH YEAH, I FORGOT TO MENTION APRIL AND THE STs… if this is a turning point for an uptrend, then it may turn out to be a good move bringing him in…. to early to call it, but let’s see…

To Schiller,
I hear you on Tapp who has been playing very well in a rotational basis and has earned more playing time I believe.. When he wasn’t playing or doing much in PRe-Season and then Eagles go out and pick-up DE A Barnes a week before the Season started and play him over Tapp who was not Activated the 1st 2 weeks, I was pretty sure there was something else going on with him (injury, off the field issues or just flat out not up for the challenge for what the Eagles wanted)
But to hos credi, he’s continued to work hard and now has a good grasp of McDermott’s system and is playing very well….
As far as injuries, I know D-Jax with likely concussion/shoulder injury will probably be held out next week and then has a bye week to allow his some time to be fully healthy for the stretch run.. I did see McCoy laboring a little, DT Patterson went down but seemed ok, Mickell/Celek/Coleman/Sims both gave and took some pretty good shots today.. Hopefully WR Cooper will be ready for next week and they may need to have another Safety for they are a little thin there right now with only 3 on the Active Roster..

What’s the deal with Vick not being down on the field, apparently he had permission to be late for warm-ups and then decided or was instructed to stay in the locker room.. Even when designated as
a 3rd QB, most players are dressed and part of the team, helping their teammates …Anyone here what the scoop is, but I don’t like the sounds of it…
Next week becomes real interesting for a road game versus the Titans who are playing Mon night on the road in JAx,fl so the Titans will definitely have a short week to recover and prepare for the Eagles and both their QB’s.. I think Coach AR stays with Kolb but will dangle Vick could play all week to keep the Titans busy on preparing for both..
I think Bunkley,Peters,D-Jax will all be held out and again next week vs the Titans and with the Bye Week afterwards, help them fully recover and keeps them fresh for the stretch run. I really liked what Dunlap did out there.. maybe when Peters comes back, they can line up Dunlap as a TE for short-yardage/red-zone running.. Have Peters/Dunlap lined up at LT/TE and run right behind them..
Lots of younger players are stepping when givine an opportunity which is a good sign of preparation, coaching and the overall FO putting this roster together.. This team is coming together pretty nicely and should only get better as the play together more and get some the injured players back…

Schill – outstanding points my friend – outstanding points – too many ESPN lite wanna-be I heard something so now it must be fact, low football IQ fans on this site. 6 games into the disaster (I mean season) sitting at 4-2 atop the NFC east. We beat the really weak Lions (who then crushed the rams who beat the chargers) and then dominated a lame Jacksonville team, that then beat Indy….

So – I’m with Schill – how are we possibly going to spin this into a negative………. How bad did Abraham beat on Dunlap…… How lame was Kolbs arm, 23 of 29, some sweat throws – team can’t run… how many yards did Gore ‘gash’ them for? Now today, how many did Turner ‘gash’ them for

Hell – the eagles worst player to day was Akers? He makes those three and this game would have been a laugher.

Now – lets not get cocky. Tough game next week and Indy after the bye. Eagles are traditionally strong in OCT/NOV and after the bye – but horrible the week before the bye.

Well, that was a most pleasant afternoon at my stadium. Anybody who says Kolb is a career 3rd stringer, a bum, or any of the other perjorative terms some people bandy about is a cluelessssss moron. You are just wrong, the truth is that he can play. I do believe that Vick is probably better, maybe more upside because his legs put so much pressure on a defense. But Kolb can throw deep, he isn’t scared, and he does throw a very catchable pass more often than not right on the money. The hospital ball to #10 notwithstanding. Could have happened to anyone. The D shocked me today, the really bowed up and played hard. It gives me a little hope that they are getting it figured out. Special teams didn’t hurt us and even contributed a bit to the effort. All in all a solid game, much better than I thought they could bring. Coach ran the ball, was clever with the playcalling, didn’t outthink himself. It was just a really good win. How did this team lose to the Foreskins? Anybody betting NFL games this seson has rocks in their head, there is no consistency whatsoever, you’d be better off playing red or black on the roulette wheel. To top it all off, the Cowboys lost again, they are toast, good talent, weakest coach in the league. They will never be good as long as JJ is running the show, thanks be to the football gods.

Great game by the birds! Well executed, well coached, I’ll even complement Andy on the balance in the first half! Kolb made the absolute most of his opportunities and you can’t ask for more than that. Boy, I loved watching a balanced O to get the lead! Super glad that the offenswe scored very well while Akers hit a funk. He’s still an awsome kicker. I still think we’re going to contimue to see from this young team what we’ve seen so far this year. Hot and cold, disciplined games then games with penalties that really hurt. The great news is that, overall, they’re getting better every week. Even special teams. Go Birds and GO PHILLS!

Ozz, I don’t think I’m better than anyone, and I apologize if I come off as arrogant or however you want to call it. I do however have a strong conviction that negativity, hate, jumping to conclusions, assumptions and believing one can predict anything in the nfl is harmful and pointless. And I speak my mind about that, not because I think I’m better, or that anyone else is worse. Maybe I should stop calling out people, that argument can be made, but its the ideas, not the individuals, that I am concerned with.

And to answer your question, when kolb had those bad games (all 1.5 of them, excluding the preseason, which I was right about- they indicated nothing at all), I had very little to say because all I could have said was “bad games, too early to write him off though”… what else did you want me to say? Join in your hate and rush judgements? Clearly that’s not my style…

All i am saying is most of the people on here state their opinions on the team, you on the other hand sounds like a paid hack for the FO to prove anyone who criticizes Reid or the FO wrong. . It was more than 1.5 games but , i do have to admit the kid looks great and although i was hating on him I am HAPPY he is doing well. Its good for the Eagles. Now , for some reason teams have not blitzed him, but we will see next week. If he comes though that i will be on board with the Kolb train. To ne honest it baffles me how Kolb can look so bad but now looks great.. I can tell you, coaching. They decided to go balanced and its working GREAT, But we have seen this before and the 2 morons wil want to trick everyone and get credit for being Offensive genuisus and start getting pass happy again. The entire team played well including, to my surprise, King Dunlop. Was it my imagination or was he better than Jason Peters. Kolb proved he can play and throw the ball deep if he has a little time. Vick has also played well so this should be a fun season. I’m just glad we took the opportunity to pick up Nate Allen in the McNabb trade. I think we have two QB’s playing better than McNabb right now so a trade made sense. Still wish it was to a team outside the division.

Drummer, that is interesting. Larger field uh? You think that would lower some of the injuries in the NFL. Something has to be done. Maybe the desire and preception of the fans would lower some of the big hit injuries. Fans crave big hits, speed and power, hell on this site I have made fun that I want my Eagles defense to rattle some opponents bones, and crush them.

I would say that those guys back in the leather helmet days had far less injuries, but i don’t know if that is true since they didn’t report a lot of stuff back then.

Congratulations to the Eagles on a contest where they excelled in all aspects of the game. Already the media hacks are primed for the next stage of QB controversy. Although Kolb did a good job. This was not a Kolb victory .It was a team victory. Kolb didn’t fall on his face (again) because his team mates and coaches did their jobs effectively. We’ve all seen how ineffective he can be if the team doesn’t execute perfectly around him. Don’t go for the media hype (again), and play one QB (Kolb) against the other (Vick) This was a team victory and above all remember both QBs “have each other’s back” when on goes down.

To Droc and others
and you can’t get experience, without playing in the games, when the live bullets are flying…
I don’t care how much time a player sits on the bench, practicies, watches video, there is no valid way to learn how to play QB or any other position in the NFL until you actually go out and play in meanigful games in real live time. After a few games when you go against players who are trying to take your head off, you get a different understanding of the game and a sense of urgency.
Congrats to QB Kolb, Coaches AR/MM and the entire staff for a great game plan and coaching all this young talent up..

Got it Droc,
Well after SUnday’s game, it appears that Kolb has a good enough NFL arm to make the throws..
My 2 favorite plays from him was the 10-15 yd TD pass to Maclin in the corner of the end-zone which was on a rope and perfectly placed where only Maclin could make a play of the ball and the other one was when he threw out of the Eagles own End-Zone on a 2nd Down & 12 yards to go play, and hit J Avant on a button hook route right in stride and right between the numbers for a 15-18 yard gain to get a first down. The passes showed me he has the confidence, accuracy and trust in your blockers and receivers to let it rip.. Kolb was very impressive most of the afternoon ..
