Antonio Dixon Is The Best Defensive Tackle On The Eagles Roster

Somebody get Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley on the phone and let them know that the best defensive tackle on the football team is Antonio Dixon.  This guy was dominating today and he made a huge difference in the middle of the defense.

He was good against the Falcons last week which was caught my attention. He was better against the Titans.

Dixon was living in the Tennessee Titans backfield.  Play after play, all I heard and saw was Dixon.  He got his second sack of the season.  The big guy made five solo tackles and one assist.  You can also give him credit for clearing the blocking so others could make tackles.

He wasn’t in there to just keep blockers off of the linebackers, he got a push into the backfield on pass plays and he made plays on Chris Johnson before he could get going.  Dixon showed his power and quickness throughout the game.  He was quick enough to beat the Titans off the ball, then strong enough to push offensive linemen in the backfield.

There’s no way in the world the Eagles can take him out of the lineup.  I don’t care about any nonsense regarding losing or not losing your job due to injury.  Yes, Dixon got his chance to play because Bunkley injured his elbow, but he played better than Bunkley has ever played.

I don’t care if the entire fan base and the media decides to cry for Bunkley.

It was the same case with Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb.  When a player gets in the game and performs like an All-Pro or one of the best players at his position in the league, all the rules are out.

As far as I could see the Eagles are a different football team with Dixon at the defensive tackle position.  He’s not only a difference maker versus the run, he doesn’t allow the quarterback to step up on pass plays.

If I were the Eagles defensive coordinator, Antonio Dixon would be my number one defensive tackle and Patterson and Bunkley would rotate at the other defensive tackle spot.

I agree G,
I thougth late last year when he was getting more snaps at DT than Patterson was, and was making more plays and now with the improvement of T Laws and addition of Tapp and Teo
to be used as pass rushers from the DT spot, either Patterson or Bunkley are expendable and could be moved after the season. G- do you think Bunkley could ever play thr DE position.. He has the bull strength that maybe he could be utilized in a rotational pass rushing from the DE spot once in a while..
This is why I thought and stated that DT M Patterson be traded this season while his value was somewhat high, another so-so year by him and I am not sure how much trade value he has left

I also agree G. Keep “Bunk da Skunk” on the bench or trade em. Nuff said. Dixon is a beast.

How can this be G? I have been saying this since last year. Every chance Dixon had he made plays. How can a fan see this but the coaching staff cant? Bunley has been a bust. You never hear his name called. Dixon 7 tackles 2 for loss and a sack.

We will see. No one knows who he is right now. When teams start paying attention to him he will get extra protection slid his way and double teams and then we will see how good he is. I am not jumping on the bandwagon of a no-named players. We will see when teams start caring about him. Until then, he’s just another player that the league doesn’t have tape on and flies under the radar.

I’m not a big Bunkley fan either but I’m not going to make Dixon the next Warren Sapp. He’s had a couple good games and that’s all. It’s not rare for that to happen in the NFL. It’s when you’re supposed to be the guy that we see how good you really are. So we will see.

haha, nice daggolden. When have been in dire need of a stud DT for years now. Like Scorp said, hard to say at this point. But if teams start double teaming him, we’ll see. If so, should open up other guys like Trent Cole or Juqua. The defense has gotten good pressure this year from their front 7. We need a shut down corner. Somebody who isn’t a liability in coverage like Hobbs. I think Allen will develop as the season progresses.

Agreed G. But just like any other player it will take more than a couples games to make ANY type of declaration. And being better than Bunkley and Patterson isn’t saying too much. That’s like saying Bradley is the best linebacker on the team. He is and it means nothing because that tells more about the rest of the guys who play the position but league wide he just average at best.

AD is a solid player who will get better the more he plays…
He is bigger and can move and has lots of upper body strength.. IF he can remain healthy and get more reps with the #1’s, he will make in improvement over Bunk/Patter who look to tie up blockers and hold their ground, AD looks to shed his blockers and get into the backfield to make some plays and that’s the bottom lne difference…

Of course recognition that Antonio Dixon is the best DT on the Eagles defense is the kiss of death that guarantees he’ll never start and become a bench warmer who will receive only minimal playing time as the Eagles Sieve Defense continues to make other teams’ skill players look much better than they actually are. At season’s end, Lurie will extend Reid to another huge contract, thus validating Reid’s decision to keep retarded godson, Sean “I Can’t Adjust” McDermott, as Defensive Coordinator along with offensively challenged Mornhinweg on his coaching staff. With these total incompetents in place, we will continue to perennially see second and third tier players selected and placed in positions that they are totally unqualified to play, i.e. Ellis “Toast” Hobbs. MR LURIE, PLEASE SELL THIS TEAM TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS AND LOVES FOOTBALL.

Dixon is definately better than our two number one draft choices. He was a free agent.

Truth be told either Trevor Laws or Daryl Tapp is the second best DT on the team which says a lot about the coaches decisions on the actual starters. I think Bunkley is good, but the guy got complacent. Patterson I’m not so sure about. The added size without losing much speed is also helping the D-Line a lot. Daryl Tapp is huge…he just comes in off the bench with no reputation and rocks guys.

I have always thought and stated for the record that Bunkley & Patterson were overrated, overpaid and not worthy of their 1st Round selections.. Bunkley has really disappointed me for he has all the tools but doesn’t have the high motor/heart that I expected. Patterson is a player that I just have not liked for 2 + Seasons and really has not done much in my eyes since being Drafted and has taken a step back each season where now, I think he’s not more than a role/rotational player who would have a hard time making a roster or see much action on many teams in the NFL..
