DeSean Jackson Returns With Another Big Game

Before anybody could get comfortable in their seats, Michael Vick was dropping and throwing a touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson.  It wasn’t a crossing route, but the Birds had Jackson going inside, which surprised me.

Number 10 had been out for three weeks and questions had been circulating about how he would play after being knocked out with vicious hit by Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson.

He didn’t miss a beat.

“Since I got hurt, a lot of people were saying, ‘Can he go back out there and still play without that being in the back of his mind?’ and the biggest thing I’ll say is that I leave it up to God”, Jackson told reporters. “I give my glory to him. I’m blessed to go out there and still play, and just do the right things I need to do to help my team win games.”

There seemed to be somewhat of an adjustment for Jackson.  He didn’t catch any passes across the middle.

“With the crossing route, across the middle, that was one of the plays [the coaches] kind of took out for me”, Jackson said. “They always mess with me and say, ‘We don’t want to put you across the middle.’ But it’s a part of the game. It’s unfortunate for [WR Austin Collie] of the Colts. He got hit on a critical play. It’s tough because, like I said, this is a very physical game we play.”

They should take those crossing routes out.  This is a different football team with Jackson.  The big play threat he brings opens up the field to everybody else.

Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg did a nice job of utilizing the explosive and diminutive wide receiver.  They got the ball to him deep on the bomb, which Vick threw out of the end zone. He let it fly long, high and deep as Jackson ran it down.

Vick says he and Jackson are always on the same page.

“Me and DeSean, we have chemistry”, Vick said after the game.  “I know where he’s going to be and it’s funny because 90% of the time when I throw the ball to him deep and I think I overthrow him, and he just goes to get it.  He’s a very dynamic player and I’m just glad to have him on my team.”

They worked him outside of the numbers.  They got to ball to him on a couple of reverses late in the game, which ran some valuable seconds off the clock.  He’s got to be the best reverse man in the NFL, right now.

I like the way the little man is being smart by gaining as much yardage as possible, then getting on the ground.  Jackson doesn’t need to prove his toughness, just like Vick doesn’t need to prove his toughness.

The Eagles season is tied directly to the health of Jackson and Vick.  If these guys stay healthy, it gives the Birds a chance to beat any of the other teams in the NFC.  If you take these guys away, the Birds are still a good football team, but they’re not a special team.

Jackson, who seems to have a unique relationship with Andy Reid, said he got tired in his first game back after a few weeks off.  He joked about his head coach pushing him to get back in the game during one of the times when he took a break.

“Honestly, a couple of times, I tried to take myself out of a couple of plays”, Jackson said with a smile. I was tired a little bit. I haven’t played in three weeks. Coming out, [Head] Coach [Andy] Reid gave me the look like get back in there. I’m like, Coach, I’m tired. I’m just going to take some time getting back to playing with the football speed and things like that.

Great game by both D-Jax and Vick..
I expect Eagles to extend/offer contracts to both these players in about 2-3 weeks
Anyone notice how well LT J Peters played yesterday.. I think he got burned once by Freeney and had
his usual off-sides penalty, but he controlled Freeney, who was a non-factor all game long..

Yes! Mike Vick and Desean Jackson did their thing! As did the defense minus a few penalties, but I blame the officiating. Look, Peyton Manning is the “People’s Champion”. Thats just what he is. So the officials tried to assist him, no doubt about it. But Im glad we prevailed. Peyton Manning is a brain surgeon when it comes to playing the QB position. But Michael Vick clearly outplayed his ass, and our defense did an okay enough job to stop Manning, ESPECIALLY ASANTE SAMUEL. I was very proud. I also credit McDermott for a well putogether defensive scheme against a good football team! We are coming to Jacksonville Superbowl…WE are on our way. Mike Vick baby!

One of the main reasons we won that game is beacuse the D did not show their blitz. I begged them to not do it and they didnt. First eagles-colts game i can remember that they didnt fall for the hard count. Great job by the D this week. And yes… Peters had a good game. No special teams break down either. It was a solid win overall.

Still think D-jAX isnt a #1. Come on man…as long as they stop with the slants and in’s hekills it. The reverses are deadly.Who else was waiting for that game form Ernie? Jimmy Mac…w.c. puppets…nice one dude! Stew Bradley finally has a great game. Santer was shading all over the place. You could tell from the door the week off helped these guys. P-domis…Peters was stout..VERY impressive bounce back perfomrance from the big and ugly.

This team is dangerous.

so where are my DJ10 haters at…….dont make me go into the archives and see who all said the silencer a.k.a. DeSean wasnt no number one receiver….well u kno who u are…we are a diff team without the kid…without him is like when we didnt have westbrook in the lineup….This team we have now is the best talent i have ever seen all together on one team in Andys era…its truley amazing..i beleive we can win it all…we are way too dynamic now with mike vick..(he will get a contract extension) u heard it first right here lol..”i have a source”..now who do i sound like..cough cough mancini…lol…but i think the years to come are going to be frightening for teams and there defenses..seriously….becuz this offseason u better believe andy is gonna build a monster o-line and a CB..kinda how he did his d-line and the entire d for that matter..once we get those pieces…wer guna have the best team in Eagles history..i see 14-2 records..13-3…15-1 type seasons with a superbowl in the mix…maybe a couple..with all the offensive love now the league is giving out..and with our talent..wer guna shatter records..and bitch ass cowboys fans hearts…and it will all be bitter sweet as mcnabb gets fat and watches us reck shop……hollr

erock sorry cuz…u dont have to have a certain body type to be a number 1…we struggle without him, he demands double coverage, he demands an end to stay home when hes in motion coming for an end around or fake. And thats the main reason hes a number one buddy..he demands way too much attention and we arent beter without him as if maclin wer out we could fill his spot with coop, or avant…u cant do that with DJ…

u know..having mike vick makes a world of a difference..freeney and mathis couldnt just do the usual rush techniques, because 7 would bounce in a heartbeat..so they tried alternate routes,,more inside moves and bull rushes…

Keeping in mind, both his size and his value to the team, would anybody object if the Eagles gave Desean a red jersey for practice? It works for the quarterbacks, would it not make sense to make certain that he is protected during the week?

Nice one Jimmy.

I loved the way D-Jax was going down long before contact now. On the first end around, he had the first down and immediately slid. On the next end around, a defender was there after about 5 yards, and he just sat down. He’s making some smart business decisions there.
