Eagles-Giants Game Day Chat

The Eagles have just announced their inactives for tonight’s game:  Trevard Lindley, Jorrick Calvin, Chad Hall, Daniel Te’o Nesheim, Reggie Wells, Austin Howard, Garrett Mills, and Mike Kafka is the 3rd quarterback.

I think this game comes down to the answer to one question.  Can the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line and game plan give Michael Vick enough time to throw the ball against the New York Giants?  There’s no way they can cover the Eagles receivers, if Vick has time to get the ball down field to them.

New York Jets’ secondary was torched last week against the Dallas Cowboys.  Jon Kitna sliced them up and he had plenty of time to do it.  I’m sure Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck know they’ve got to play great in order to give their any chance of stopping the big plays of the Eagles.

I hope we have plenty of good things to talk about tonight.  Let’s keep it clean and have a good time talking about the game.

You gotta love this quote:

The guiding principle of his revolutionary, aggressive defense was to “find out who the second-string quarterback was,” Buddy Ryan once said.

I still miss Buddy. For my entertainment dollar, he was tops.

A Huge game for the loser of this battle will be on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs go..
I believe only the winner of the NFC East Division will make the playoffs with th ewildcard teams from
The NFC South and NOrth Divsions.. Look how the COmpetition did today in the NFC

Falcons win 8-2
Saints win 7-3
TB Bucs win 7-3
Packers win 7-3
Bears win 7-3

Only 6 teams make the playoffs and remember the NFC West will get one (Probably Seattle at 5-5)
The Winner of this game tonight joins the rest at 7-3 and 1 game behind Atalanta for overall best record, The loser falls to 6-4 with a tough remaining schedule and a uphill battle sinec the Falcons,Bucs,Bears,Packers all have easier schedules remaining than the Eagles or Giants..

Eagles win 31-13

Very patient and methodical drive – 7 minutes – Eli’s gotten cold on the sidelines.

that was impressive
Liked:
throw to Maclin on side blitz came from
throws to desean on 3rd
one dump to McCoy on 2nd and 9

Didn;t like
2nd and 10 run
florida gators Mike Vick run
called QB run for TD….

that’s 2 called QB runs on the drive…….Do they want Vick to last season or not?

but drummer….2 were vick runs (maybe called) and one was a vick scramble for 1
mmcoy got has 3 carries…..desean 1…so 4 “real” runs

drummerwinslow

November 21, 2010 9:16 pm

The table doesn’t past correctly, but here it is.

Pass Run Type of Drop Notes
1 5 Sacked – 1 yard gain
false start
1 2nd and 14 – no gain
1 7 3rd and 16 – Maclin drop

False start
1st and 15
1 3 Quick out to Maclin no gain
1 2nd and 18 – Pass to Jackson for 23
1 End around Jackson – no gain
1 3 Hot read to Maclin – safety blitz
1 Wildcat fake hand-off QB keeper
1 3 1st down by McCoy – safety valve
1 7 Overthrown to
1 No gain – Winston Justice missed the block
1 5 3rd and 9 – complete to Jackson for 1st down
1 play action complete
1 McCoy 1st down – cross buck
1 Thrown away
1 Vick run
7-minute drive

vinnietheevictor
vinnietheevictor
November 21, 2010 9:17 pm

y but i don;t even like the 2 called qb runs….bad news….unless you’re the 1990s cornhuskers
McCoy has been called 3x
Desean once
Vick 2x
and one Vick ‘scramble’ for a yard
Those are the Birds 7 ‘runs’
yuck

no you;re not skewed…the pass/run defense is sqewed

drummerwinslow

November 21, 2010 9:19 pm

I’m not as much concerned about running as I am that they mix up their plays, i.e., reverses, screens, draws (inside hand-offs), etc. We just need to make their pass rush a bit hesitant.

vinnietheevictor
vinnietheevictor
November 21, 2010 9:19 pm

did i say defense??…sorry…rye….I meant the pass/run ratio….ugh

but speaking of D…they look good

vinnietheevictor
vinnietheevictor
November 21, 2010 9:21 pm

I just don;t like going through a Q and a half with only giving ball to RB 3x (and he;s good!)
I still worry about long term effects of such a policy

vinnietheevictor
vinnietheevictor
November 21, 2010 9:22 pm

see that’s bad frikkin’ news
a 5 (maybe 7) step drop on 3rd and 1…..terrible

drummerwinslow
drummerwinslow
November 21, 2010 9:24 pm

Here’s where I always get concerned. After the first 15 plays, Reid starts calling consecutive drop back passes and the pass rush heats up. It’s happened nearly every game (except Atlanta and I believe one other). Against Atlanta, his play calling was excellent.

drummerwinslow
drummerwinslow
November 21, 2010 9:25 pm

I agree that Reid’s play-calling exposes his QB to injury.

he does…but I still think he does it more with McNabb/VIck at the helm because he’s such a believer in the “one explosive play” philosophy
on the flip side…love to see the D just going after the ball…ripping it out
