What They’re Saying About The Eagles

There are a lot of people talking about the Philadelphia Eagles nowadays, thanks to Michael Vick and their 7-3 record.  There are quite a few national experts jumping on the Birds bandwagon down the stretch.

Martin Frank of Courierpostonline.com asks the question whether one day Michael Vick’s play will outweigh his past.  Vick thinks a time will come when people will be tired of hearing his story.

“I think at some point in time, it’ll be monotonous to continue to talk about the same thing over and over again,” Vick said. “I really don’t pay attention to it . . . I appreciate all the positives, but I appreciate all of the negatives as well because that only drives me and motivates me.”

If he plays well enough and long enough, I think Vick is right.   A time will come when people are tired of hearing about the dog-fighting ring which he ran.  They’ll be interested Vick the football player and they’ll be tired of hearing about the other stuff.

It’s not here yet.

Chris Canty called out Eagles offensive guard Todd Herremans for being a dirty player.  He says Herremans was going after his legs, which is a way of telling a guy you’re trying to end his career.

“Two of them. Same guy,” Canty said. “When you talk about players doing that to one another … playing hard, playing between the whistles is one thing. But that was a dirty play. I think we all can agree on that.”

I understand where Canty is coming from but Herremans explained that he didn’t realize Mike McGlynn’s hands were on Canty’s shoulder.

You can bet the Giants will be going after Herremans when they meet up in New York later in the season.

I don’t like the way Titans coach Jeff Fisher is handling his problems with quarterback Vince Young. Young texted him an apology regarding behavior after the game on Sunday, but Fisher chose to public say he doesn’t like texting and would rather talk to Young face-to-face.

I have no problem with Fisher’s wishes but he doesn’t have to make his request public.  Why doesn’t he call Young and tell him?  It seems Fisher is “Grandstanding” to try and show Young up.  Coaches aren’t always right.  He’s been quick to bench Young even though he has a 98 quarterback rating this year.

Canty makes me laugh. Wasn’t nearly the whole defense talking about knocking Vick out of the game? And they sure have been proud of how many other QBs they have knocked out this year. And of course they only ever make plays that are 100% within the rules. I know what Herremans did was against the rules, I just find the hypocrisy amusing. If defensive players openly talk about literally knocking the opposing teams players out they have to be ready to get extra dirt thrown back on them. Just like if you ever pull a gun on someone you better be ready to die yourself. Because that is the only fair response.

G – you gotta stop defending the black QB against the white coach. First, Fisher didn’t bench Young – he got hurt and has been put on IR because of the injury and subsequent surgery. Second, Young has a history in this regard that you ignore with your little snippet above. Young has historically not handled adversity well, and Fisher has gone out of his way to help this young man with no effect. Remember who it was, G, who drove all over Nashville looking for Young when word got back to the Titans that Vince was suicidal? Remember that? It was JEFF FISHER. You got a lot of nerve trying to nail Fisher now for finally having had enough of this guy. But, as I said, Fisher never actually benched him. He didn’t have to…injury did it for him.
