Would You Rather A Dog Be Put Down Or Let Vick & His Family Own It?

I told you there was going to outrage from Michael Vick haters about him wanting to own a dog again in the future.  And just as I thought, animal rights people have gotten up in arms about it.

Wayne Purcell who is president of the Humane Society, the organization which Vick has been working with to tell kids the evils of dog fighting, is making a point to back off his previous comments.  Purcell is still in favor of Vick owning a dog again but he doesn’t think that time should be now.

On his blog yesterday Purcell wrote, “too soon for Michael Vick to have a dog. Pet-keeping is a privilege and he lost that privilege when he committed atrocious acts of cruelty in the months and years before his arrest in 2007. … I do think that if his rehabilitation progresses and he handles the probation period flawlessly, it could be a good thing for Michael Vick’s family to have a pet at the end of that process. To adopt a pet is the most cherished desire of countless millions of children everywhere, including Michael Vick’s two little girls, London and Jada. It’s the most natural thing in the world for a parent to want to grant that wish.”

There are others who disagree with that.

“Vick should be banned from owning dogs for life,” Jane Dollinger, the spokeswoman for PETA said yesterday in a news release.
A lot of these animal rights people are fakes.  Supposed Vick gets a dog that they were going to put down from one of these shelters.  Would they rather that the dog be killed or allow Vick and his family to own the dog?
Any animal rights person who would rather a dog be put down rather than let Vick’s family own the dog has shown their true colors.  Is this about the safety and well being of dogs or is this about their hate and vengence?
You and I know that any dog that Vick gets is going to be the most protected dog in history. I think it’s legitimate that he wait the three years, then be able to own a dog again.
The Birds quarterback comes across as being very sincere about this desire but I think he needs to just leave it alone right now.  He’s just stirring things up.  He shouldn’t say anything about owning a dog any time soon.

“I really mean what I say,” Vick told the Associated Press. “I don’t have a problem. I’m not a psychopath. I’m not crazy. I’m a human being. What happened in my past and what I did in the culture I grew up in doesn’t shape and mold me as the person I am now.

“I said it before that I wish I can own a dog, and I’ll continue to say it. I’m not allowed to, but I’m just saying I wish I could because my kids ask me every day.”

Could you imagine how many times you would see the pictures of him with the dog?  It would be the picture of the year.

It really ticks me off to hear all the people who loathe Vick and say he shouldn’t be able to play in the NFL or own a dog or whatever but no one Loathes Ray Lewis, Donte Stallworth and Leonard Little who killed PEOPLE!!. What a screw up country. How would of these people like it they got caught for some like DUI and were told they cant go back to their job and must go into a new profession or can never walk into a restaurant that server alcohol . It would be a different story. The guy did his time like a MAN leave him alone.

Ozzman, as much as I hate to admit it, I think it’s a matter of society just being so desensitized to the killing of people. We hear stories about it on the news EVERY day and see it in movies and on TV EVERY day. But people aren’t used to seeing or hearing about animal cruelty

I know that much of this talk is due to the interview this week….but I don’t need anymore articles looking to flame reaction….the guy made a series of horrific mistakes, he has gone to prison and lost most of his possessions, he has been released and spoken out and apologized for his past actions and has worked with various agencies to educate others against animal cruelty…..there are some that will never forgive him, and I think he understands that, but to constantly bring it up serves no purpose but to increase tv / radion / newspaper ratings….I say give it a rest. Let the guy focus on leading the Birds to the SB.

who cares if he has a dog. he didn’t run a dog fighting ring b/c he hates dogs, he ran it to make money. One of the charges was due to interstate commerce laws. Let the man’s kid have a dog and ultimately let this man move on with his life.

While I make it a point not to use profanity. F___(forget) all of those Media whores. Vick is a free citizen and does not need their approval or permission.

This dog talk has to stop. People way over top about their dog, allowing dogs to sleep in bed. Dogs are pack animals, they need a master to discipline and lead. As soon as Vick disciplined his dog he’d be in trouble. Forget about the dog for now. Better yet, stop talking about it. Play football

Mr. Bsm, while I agree with your sentiments, unfortunately for Vick he is still “in the system”‘, on parole, so his rights and restrictions on him are not as the ordinary “free” citizen

A couple of items that I’ve heard thru some pretty reliable sources
#1) VIck purchased a dog already and named it Kolb, I do not know the Breed of the dog.
#2) Vick’s agent has told Banner/Lurie that he will only sign a long-term deal with the Eagles if
they change their nickname name to the “Philadelphia Pit-Bulls”, so he will probably move on after the season and possibly play for new-relocated team from Minnesota VIkings to the Los Angeles
Pit-Bulls for start of the 2012 season since there will be a Players Lockout by Owners for 2011..

It’s a cruel world out there when you let others dictate how you should live your life..

“Every time I think I’m out, they pull me back in”,

Question does anyone know if Mike can refuse interviews , or is this a condition of his reinstatement and signing by the Eagles….Cause for the life of me I don’t get why he keeps granting these interviews….Ok I get the Big 4 ( CBS,NBC,FOX,NFL Net )

I’ve had dogs all my life. They have always been a part of my family. I’m a dog lover through and through. But I’m also an Eagle lover since I first saw them play growing up in Philly in 1974. I think what he and his cronies did to those dogs in Virginia was HEINOUS. Let me refresh your memories, he and his friends electrocuted by car battery , hung until dead, drowned and beat against the ground until dead numerous dogs on numerous occaisions. If you think what he did to these animals was “no big deal” then you are a twisted individual. Having said that, Vick has done all that the legal system has asked of him. He has appeared sincere in his humbleness and apologies. He speaks to kids just about every day off he has gotten during this season. Obviously, I absolutely hate what Vick did to those dogs and I may never be behind him 100 percent but that’s my problem. No one should be able to deny him the right to make a living. He served his time. This is America. We thrive on second chances. I have no doubt Vick and his family will again own a dog. But perhaps right now is not the time for Vick to address that particular situation.

PETA pathetic..

When will they stop the senseless killings of dogs and cats euthanized daily in SPCA’s country wide.

I know a Vet who kill hundreds of animals each month and he owns 2 dogs.

Pet his dog before work every day.

Should Veterinarians own animals?

I own(ed) two dogs; had to put the younger and my “buddy” down last year because he was loaded with pancreatic cancer and in constant pain. That was first pet I ever had to euthanize; it’s a terrible emotion. The second is going on 16, nearly blind and is having problems with her hips. It’s going to hurt having to do that again. Dogs can become like your “furry” little children. BUT, too many in this society are way out of balance in the place of pets in our society. Being in the ministry, I understand what happened to Mike Vick. I ministered in prisons for years and when people hook up with the wrong friends, it can pull them into things they would never ordinarily do. Evil spirits are real!!!! If you’ve ever met true satanists, you’ll know what I mean.
If a person has trouble forgiving Vick, they actually are in great peril because the Word says that if we can’t forgive others, then the Father won’t forgive them (Mark 11:25)… you know the results of that!
Personally, I think Vick’s timing is too soon, IF the courts placed a restriction on him. But he has done a 180 in his heart, so that the very things he once used for his own gain and persecuted because there was no compassion, has now created the opposite effect. He has grown to love the very living things he once persecuted. There is far more wicked, disgusting stuff done to humans in this country (and world) than to animals. If you disagree, then stop eating beef, pork, poultry and fish… go visit an animal rendering plant!
The Lord works on the inside of us, so that it shows on the outside. Mike Vick paid a price and repented, thus his heart and life have changed. It shows in his dedication to the sport too now. God is blessing him and those who still harbor grudges don’t want him to succeed. Their own hearts are troubled because he hasn’t suffered enough in their minds. Too bad for them if it keeps gnawing at their gut.
If the courts let him have a dog, that’s fine and others need to get over it. Even the head of the Humane Society has seen the genuine change in Mike. I hope Vick acquires the desires of his heart in due season.

Actually owning a dog and watching how much his kids love it and finding out how loyal a dog is to them and the rest of the family would probably be the best way for Vick to reshape his former views

And yes I can see how it was part of his background growing up–Dog fighting was a southern rural culture thing ( both white and black )

Plus I don’t VIck should be able to go to Sixers games or any where in public and have a good time.
This should be in violation of his Probation. He should staying at the NovaCare Complex watching video, scouting opponents, helping the Scouts with next years Draft, helping the Rehab Doctors get these injured players back sooner, and things like taht.. He needs to stay committed to winning and not go to 76ers Games which will only bring him and the team down…

Honestly, now that you bring it up I think it would make more sense for Michael Vick to fund and raise money for “Michael Vick” branded franchise of “No Kill” animal shelters. I still think it’s too soon for him to own a dog, being that it’s fame that drove him to the depths before he hasn’t been a starter for more than one season to know how to completely handle that fame again.

G.Cobb:
You just trying to stir up controversy, like you sometimes do at WIP…This question is just inflammatory…Vick did his time, and also paid a lot of money for his mistakes…The ‘dog questions’ are irrelevant…Hypocrites who cry crocodile tears over dog fighting have nothing to say about our country slaughtering innocent citizens in Iraq & Afghanistan…It is all BS…Leave Vick alone…Whatever judgement is on him will come from a ‘higher power…Don’t ask baiting questions.
