McCoy Says The Eagles Are Going To Run The Football

Was Eagles running back LeSean McCoy being honest yesterday when he said the Eagles are going to run the ball more against the Packers?  Was he coming clean when he said that the Eagles were going to run the ball enough, so that they would be able to get Michael Vick outside the pass rush later in the game with play action passes?

It makes sense, but if it’s true why is McCoy telling everybody.

You know where I stand.  To me McCoy is the key to this game offensively for the Birds.  Vick isn’t the key in this one although if McCoy shines it will likely open things up for Vick to put the dagger in the Packers.

McCoy could be the guy who allows the Eagles to play ball possession.  He’s the guy that forces Green Bay to bring one of their up near the line of scrimmage.  He’s the guy who has the best advantage of they he will matchup with A.J. Hawk.

Still Reid and his staff need to talk to McCoy if he’s making parts of the game plan public.

“Going into this game plan, I’m running the ball a little bit more”, McCoy said. “With [the Packers’] type of defense – a 3-4 – they kind of invite you to run the ball.”

Yes, they invite you to run by playing a nickel defense against the Eagles the last time on first, second and third down.  I think running the ball at cornerback Charles Woodson would be a good idea, when they line him up as the Will linebacker in their nickel look.

I would line up fullback Owen Schmitt in an offset I formation and have him introduce himself to Woodson on an Iso running play right at the cornerback.  We’ll see if Woodson is willing to step up in their and take Schmitt on.

Success on the ground, especially up the middle will force Green Bay’s defensive ends and outside linebakcrs to start creeping inside to help and that’s how Vick will get outside of them.

“We’re going to run it a bit and kind of get him out of that pocket a little bit more,” McCoy said. “I think that, with play fakes, will help him out.”

I like the concept but the must also stay with the running game plan for a while.  You can’t run the ball on two or three plays, then abandon it if you don’t gain five yards on each play.  I have my doubts about whether they can stay with it.

You see, I really have my doubts about whether Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg can run the football and still get sleep at night. I think they must feel that running the football is like having an adulterous affair.

Just like I had said in an earlier article about defensive coordinator Sean McDermott loving to blitz and being raised by a blitzer, Jim Johnson, Reid and Mornhinweg were raised by a thrower, so they love to throw the football.

As for McCoy, I guess he’s going to tell everybody before the week is out about whether the Birds have any fakes on special teams.  He could give out the “Live” numbers, colors and words for audibles this week.

Seriously, McCoy doesn’t need to make it a habit to divulge parts of the game plan.  On the other hand, if the Birds run for 150 yards and spank the Packers, maybe he needs to do it every week.

Don’t think it makes much difference at this point what a player says.

Could you imagine the packers come out with 8 in the box and the Eagles throw a bomb to Desean to start the game.

PACKERS AFTER GAME LOSS PRESS CONFERENCE

PACKER REPORER: “coach why did you start the game with 8 in the box when the Eagles are a passing team?”

PACKERS HEAD COACH : ” Because Shady McCoy said in a lockerroom interview that they were going to run”

CUT TO ESPN SPORTS CENTER

DA DA DAT DA DAT

STEWART SCOTT ” BREAKING NEWS!, WE’VE JUST LEARNED THAT THE PACKERS HEAD COACH HAD BEEN FIRED”…That’s cold as the other side of the pillow…

In related news a photo that Brett Farve texted to the Packers for replacing him with Aaron Rogers was mistakingly sent to a female reporter.

Andy correctly believes you win the the nfl with a strong passing attack, but refuses to allow a healthy dose of rushing to strengthen his passing attack.

Imagine if Andy Reid was the catcher with Cole Hamels on the mound. Cole would be knocked out of the game by the third inning every game. The hitters would see Cole’s very good 92+ mph fastball with movement for almost every pitch. He would try to fool the hitters by locating it different spots( different passing formations in the analogy), but the hitter would sit fast ball. The real reason for Cole’s success is the changeup. It completely ruines the hitters timing and he swings too early. It sets up the fast ball and vise vera. This is not ground breaking stuff I’m typing. Fastballs are thrown about 60% of the time with a variety of off speed pitches used to decieve and not allow hitters to sit on pitches. Andy wants to keep throwing fastballs with the mentality it’s his best pitch, but a little bigger dose of running makes his whole offensse harder to defend.

I hope and pray to GOD that McCoy is correct……. Look its all about pre-snap adjustments….. If the Packers want to nickel and dime us we should adjust our audibles to run the ball……. I hope AR has audible plays stamped and sealed in Mike Vick’s brain this coming sunday!!!!

I’ve noticed through the years that what ever play that is called on offense with the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES…… That our Qb’s have almost never audible a play…….. If the QB see’s something in the defense to his advantage like Peyton Manning what ever the coach calls is basically NULL AND VOID and Peyton executes and make the coaches look better……. But being a Philly fan… I’ve never really seen that type of trust from coach to Qb in that perspective in Philadelphia……. OR maybe I’m wrong…….. I just hope AR has faith and trust in Mike Vick to make him the leader on the field to do such before the ball is snapped……

I want to see AR call a play and Mike Vick see’s something else and calls a totally different play and it WORKS………. THat’s what the Eagles have been missing……. You have to trust your players…. They get paid million’s of dollars to perform a job…….

It’s like what AR calls on the field it’s STAMPED SEALED and DELIVERED…….

We have mother nature to thank for the sudden change in gameplan that includes “running the ball” thats the only thing that could make Reid have a sudden change of heart about running the ball. lol. Trust me Its going to be windy as hell and not favorable for the passing game. Then again that could also adversely affect Greenbay as well. Go Eagles!!!

I don’t care who or what is responsible for having us run the ball more….I just want to see us not totally abandon the run game and become one dimensional. SHAAAA-DEE…..SHAAAA-DEE !!

GO BIRDS!!!!

I think the 2 times McCoy publicly said they were going to run the ball more was before the
Lions and 49ers games earlier in the Season… So maybe this is a good omen…

Yes sir, G!
I was wondering why we haven’t put Schmidt out on the field a little bit more, he just dont block, he hits, a very physical player.. It’ll be good to involve a player with his physicality a little more often. FB and RB on the field at the same time, gives you that blocker and options for pass, you have to account for McCoy and Vick which will help the pass. I hope the Eagles will run the ball more…but who knows, we’ve been hoping for this for sometime…

One thing I do know, we’re not going to see AR being too stingy with the playbook in the playoffs..

Chevron – If you recall from last year, a game was played with very high winds and Reid saw that as a good reason to throw, I think it was over 50 times and, I think they lossed. Anyone with a better memory, please chime in.

Either way, I have every hope that they commit to the run through the entire game even if they have only mediocre results running in the first half. My expectations are very, very different.
