Morning Chat With G. Cobb: Roseman & Eagles Offseason; Packers, Ravens, Bears And Patriots Will Advance This Weekend

Eagles young GM Howie Roseman says he’lll conduct the offseason moves in search for talent in much the same way as any other year. How do you think he did last year in the draft and in acquiring free agents and undrafted players?

I remember how much Roseman stressed getting those pass rushers.  We got to the playoffs and didn’t have much of a pass rush once we got there.

Take an interesting look at the preparation for the broadcast of this weekend’s playoff games.  You get to see how Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, Troy Aikman and Chris Collingsworth and others feel about interviewing NFL head coaches such as Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan

Who do you have winning this weekend in the playoffs?   I’ve got the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears winning in the NFC and the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens winning in the AFC.

I think Aaron Rodgers will outplay Matt Ryan in the Georgia Dome. Once the Packers stop Michael Turner, Ryan will have to throw the ball more than he wants to do.  It will open the door to sacks and interceptions.  Rodgers can throw the ball 40 times and win the football game.

I think the Bears defense will dominate the Seahawks, force some turnovers and lead the Bears to victory.  The Seahawks aren’t legitimate.

I like the Ravens over the Steelers because the guy, safety Troy Polamalu, who has been the difference-maker for the Steelers in the recent game against Baltimore isn’t anywhere near 100%.  Yes, he will play but he won’t be himself and that will open the door for the Ravens.  The Steelers defense is great but they aren’t the same without a healthy Polamalu.

The teams are closely matched.  They both play lights out defense and they run the ball with attitude, but Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and the Ravens will take the game this time around.

In the final game of weekend, the Patriots will beat the trash-talking jets.  Tom Brady is head and shoulders better than Mark Sanchez.  The only chance the Jets have is running the football down the Patriots’ throats.  I don’t think they’ll do it quite well enough.

Paulmans Picks for the Final 4 in the NFL Playoffs

NFC
Bears over the Seahawks 23-16 in a closer game that many think (D Hester with a big Special Teams return is the difference as the Seahawks fight hard to the end)

Falcons over the Packers 26-24 — Falcons will do what the Eagles should have done and that’s pound the ball right at Packers Defense with Turner & Snelling (Watch for WR’s M Jenkins/Harry Douglas to have big games for the Falcons)

AFC
Ravens 19 – Steelers 17 in a classic, knock down, old fashion football game.. Special teams and the
kicking game will be huge.

Patriots 34 – Jets 9 — Patriots blow out the blowhard Jets and their Coach back to NY
(Watch for Patiorts TE’s Gronkowski & Hernandez have big plays and games)

Gcobb..I really feel like its a big blow to the eagles that they wont probably be able to deal Kolb for anything in the draft this year due the uncertainty of the NFL when the season is over. I say this in the fact that i actually like Kolb unlike mostly everybody on this blog but Im an eagles team fan first over a fan of kolb, vick, or whoever else on the team and its obvious that the eagles have made their choice once they declared Vick their starter earlier in the season. If we had a pretty solid team with few holes I would of been glad to have both of them on the team next year due the reality that Vick gets hurt alot and misses games. But this team has holes all over esp on D and if a new agreement was implemented in time before the draft between the owners and union that permitted players to be traded for picks in the upcoming draft i feel like we really could of improved our overall team by dealing Kolb.

I could of seen the Eagles Trading Kolb and their first round pick (23 i believe) to the Cards(5), Browns(6) or 49ers(7) for their 1st round pick. Kolb would easily be a better option than anything those teams have at the position. And with Luck not coming out this year the overall QB poistion took a big hit with mostly all the other prospects being projects that could turn out to easily be busts. Teams will prolly not even waste a top 10 pick on either of the QBs coming out in the draft this year because their just not NFL top pick worthy and they would get our late 1st round pick in return as well. Then the eagles could have a chance at CB Peterson, CB Amukamara, or DT Fairley…U think the Eagles and either of those teams would have made either of those trades? And which free agent would you really like to see here in Eagles green next year( if there is football) other than the obvious Nnamdi A.?

Cowboys are about to hire Rob Ryan as their D/C
Dolphins to announce hiring of Childress as their O/C
Stanford announce the hiring David Shaw as their new coack leaving Coach MM with the Eages
It appears the Eagles will have the same staff and will need to replace D Jauron with a Secondary
Coach..perhaps with Mike Zordich

Goof points pheags88,

The 49ers to me would be the best team to deal with for a couple of reasons

#1) They have a new Coach in Jim Harbaugh who will get the Franchise a new face and leader at QB
which Kolb could potentially be..(Kolb did play well at San Francisco on that Monday night game earlier this Season)
#2) The 49ers had 2 1st Round Picks last season in O/Lineman in A Davis and M Iupati
so they paid out a lot of guaranteed $$$ with high draft choices last year and they may want to deal this #7 pick to save on some bottom line $$$ for this year but they are really in need of some
CB help and are probably salivating at the thought of maybe getting either Peterson or Amukamara
with the #7 pick

It’s ashame because I would take Rob Ryan’s pedigree over McDermott any day of the week.

think you are right Pman…the birds will probably replace Jauron with Zordich since he is already on the staff.

I would love to know what pictures Segrest has of Reid & Lurie that has allowed him to keep moving up through the organization….on second thought, I DON”T want any part of looking at THOSE pictures!!

I’m calling the SHOTS……. Put Mcdermott aka robin from the original Bat Man episodes at defensive backs coach where he should be…… Hire Bob Ryan as our defensive coordinator……. Fire Rory Seagress…… Find who ever to replace him…… Hugh Douglas can do a better coaching job than him……. WE need to put the scare back into this philly defense…… Nobody fears this defense with the likes of the Steelers and Ravens……. In the 80’s in 90’s we were fierce……. Rugged….and RAW….. I wanna see the CHEESE BURGER BLITZ out there LOL!……… What every Buddy called in Philly Green…. We need that and besides Bob Ryan Put a hell of a blue print to slow down that NE offense this season!!!!!!!!!!!

Songs, I agree with you about Ryan over McDermott, but I doubt he’ll walk out of Dallas without an offer. We’ll get to see him twice a year, don’t worry!

Also, Rob Ryan is not as good as Rex was in the day, but he’s better than McDermott – at least Ryan has a method to his madness and can convince players to believe in his approach. Seems like the Eagles players aren’t buying in as much to McDermott (Samuel and Brown last year, Cole this year, etc).

I remember this Howie guy talking about how thet had been studying and looking at Ernie Simms from afar and how they were so excited by him. In my humble evaluation he sucks-he is too small and overruns every play and can’t get off any blocks. The Eagles hype is good for nothing but misleading the fans. Talent evaluation is still poor. Average undersized 1sr round DT’s. LB’S NONE OF WHICH WILL MAKE PRO BOWL. BRADLEY IS FALLING APART LITTLE BY LITTLE. ABAIRIMI HAS BEEN A BUST.
TEO NASION IS TOO SMALL. 2/5 OF THE OFFENSIVE LINE IS DECENT. JUSTICE HAS DIGRESSED. KING DUNLOP IS A JOKE AND EMBARRASSMENT.
