DeSean Jackson Talks About The Contract, The Defense & The Offensive Line

As you know by now, DeSean Jackson won’t be playing in the Pro Bowl on Sunday because of a knee injury he sustained in the playoff game versus the Packers. Ashley Fox of Philly.com reveals in his story today that the injury Jackson sustained was a Grade 2 MCL sprain, which is the same injury that took Jay Cutler out of the NFC Championship game.

Somebody should let Cutler know that because Jackson went back in and played the rest of the game and he had to run every play.  I think the injury prevented him from taking that last pass from Michael Vick to the end zone.  It was close, now it’s history.

Jackson tried to bite his tongue all season, but you knew he was feeling a lot inside regarding his contract, the season and his teammates.

Ashley caught with Jackson in Honolulu, Hawaii and Jackson was ready to talk. I know many of you might not like some of the things he had to say, but the important question is:  “Is he telling the truth?”  Check it out.

Regarding his contract, he was short and sweet.

“Hopefully they know what I’m worth to the team, and we’ll get something worked out,” Jackson said.

This man deserves a fair contract.  He opens up the field for everybody else.  Even if he’s not catching the ball, he scares the safeties so they back up.

Regarding a willingness to go across the middle

“A lot of people probably said it was, but I kept the same confidence I had before [the concussion] happened,” Jackson said.

Jackson shouldn’t make a habit of going across the middle.  The dude weighs a 165 pounds, he would be a fool to be running across the middle all the time.

Concerning the defense and the departure of defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.

“It kind of caught me off guard when they released [Sean McDermott], or fired him, whatever it is,” Jackson said. “He’s a good coach. Hopefully we can get someone else to come in and just kind of keep up with our defense, because in order to win a championship, we need our defense to kind of step up and just help out.”

You could see that Jackson is trying to be careful about saying anything bad about the defense.

Regarding the offensive line.
“We could get a little bit stronger on the offensive line, because we had a couple of guys get hurt,” Jackson added. “If we can kind of do that and protect Michael Vick, the sky’s the limit.”
Only a blind man would not be able to see that we need help on the offensive line.  Wait a minute.  I’ve got a email here from Stevie Wonder and he says we need help on the offensive line. LOL

Jackson talked about recruiting star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha

“I talked to Nnamdi,” Jackson said. “I said, ‘Man, come on, Nnamdi, we need you to come sign with us,’ because if we had him and Asante, oh, my God. That’s very dangerous.”

Jackson wouldn’t be happy about Nnamdi coming here if they told him we can only pay you or Nnamdi.  He’d better be careful what he hopes for.

for a young guy, he sounds pretty polished in his responses. I say keep him, but use him intelligently. No more over the middle for 3 yard gains. He won’t last. Tailor an offense to take advantage of his skills rather than trying to force-fit him into the west coast scheme. But I’m only a baseball guy, maybe I’m full of it who knows.

Jackson and Nnamdi are both from Cal so hopefully Jackson is pressing him to come to Philadelphia.

I am sorry folks, for as exciting as D-Jax is and the occasional big plays that he makes..
I do not sign him to a long term deal and inverst the $50-$60 Million that it will take to keep him…
I don’t see him playing at a high level in 2 years time as his injuries mount and over time, he will lose
a step, then he will be able to contribute very little to warrant that kind of $$$ for a WR who basically only runs the deep route well and handle some punts..I would trade him after next season to maximize his value..

The 60 yard bomb against the Lions? I can go on and on. THIS IS WHY YOU PAY THE MAN! He impacts the game and you dont even have to throw him the ball!

According to multiple sources for The Arizona Cardinals they will trade Larry Fitzgerald for the right price. If the Eagles want a ring they would send them Kevin +Desean Jackson for Fitz.

Theyre gonna have to pay Desean alot of $$ anyway so get rid of him while you can. He’ll bring you excitement, but no ring. Besides how often is it that you get a chance to get the best reciever in the league without Diva like qualities? Fitzgerald would definitely be a guy the eagles would love to have. He never complains about his contact, doesnt throw his teammates under the bus, and wouldnt cause distactions like T.O or Desean..

All that one trick pony, go deep all the time stuff doesnt work in the playoffs against top defenses. You need a reciever than can do everything. When in the hell have you ever heard about a team with a one dimentional #1 reciever winning a superbowl? NOT NEVER.

Desean is also injury prone
Concussion
Foot
Knee
He just got injured at the pro bowl
You guys can have the Excitement and injuries, but i want a ring.

Desean was not no WIDE OPEN. QUIT LYING. Maclin was. Vick was trying to win the dam game so shut up. If he wouldve made the throw you wouldve been praising him. Hes better than Kolb.

I can count numerous times Kolb missed a wide open Maclin and Desean go back and look at that redskins and 49ers game. Your little GF Kevin Kolb only had 1 td pass, he also only had 1 td pass against the Titans and Dallas. Your girlfriend Kolb is not the answer He sucks. Every game hes been in he only threw 1 Td pass except the Atlanta game and you think hes the future? You arent the sharpest knife in the kitchen are ya son?

This is the NFL, injuries happen! I dont know one single player that has not been injured…injuries are not an excuse!…any player can get injuried at anytime…just ask Theismann!

, DJAX does a much more than you obviously give him credit for…That trick pony stuff where Jax ran for about 30 yards in the game against the Packers after the catch, was go deep route? DJAX has scored TD’s on short completions just as much as the deep ball…do you guys watch the games? The most complete receiver on the team is JMAC who is not 1 dimentional…but DJAX is the most explosive receiver in the NFL and no way is he one dimentional, that is an absurd statement! You guys must have short memories, DJAX has made plays for the Eagles that have won games, BIG GAMES (not a superbowl, but lets remember there are 30 other teams that won’t be winning the superbowl) you cats act like a superbowl is something that should be easily won

He got injured against the pack to support that injury prone fact about him. Secondly he had big games against horrible defenses like Lions, Jags, Redskins, an Dallas. All horrible 30th ranked defenses. You people are blinded by him having big games against trash defenses. You can have the excitement, but i want a ring. Desean is not better than Fitz. Only a fool would believe Desean is the most dangerous Wide reciever in the league when every good defense he plays shuts him down. Fitz is alot more dangerous than Desean.

Get the *bleep* out of here with the *bleep* – you are the one thats blind my friend! How about this, we have two receivers I’d rather have than Fitz…. JMac is a better complete receiver than Fitz!! …DJAX, JMac, and Avant compliment each other very well. Thats what it is about, getting the right group of guys so you can utlize their strengths… ..I’m not saying Fritz wouldnt be productive in the Eagles offense, but he will not impact the game as DJAX does. DJAX is a game changer he directly puts points on the board…DJax has scored TD on rushing and had over 100 yards as a receiver rushing…Fitz had none, zero rushes period…YAC DJAX is the top receiver in that regard!…DJAX also returns punts…This is a one dimentional WR I guess…

I don’t want fitz. Why would we want fitz and give up 2 young guys with way more upside. Idiots…. WR was not the friggin issue this year. D, o line and run game play calline were. Why do you people continue to do this? Last year the issue was what??? QB?? NO!! It was D, oline and lack of run game. The year before was what??? D, oline and lack of run game.

The issues for this team have been the same for years. We don’t need new WR’s. We don’t need QB change. We need to fix this D. Why would you trade away our strengths? We need to do what we started to do last year.. Build up this D. Trade away Kolb and add D starters.

@Steveo Youre the idiot, we dont need Kolb, kafka could be ready or we could bring in a FA back up qb. Secondly, Desean is not only an injury prone, but one dimentional and that one trick stuff does not work in the playoffs against top defenses in this league. AS WEVE SEEN THE LAST 2 SEASONS.

This is not a matter of addressing stuff we dont need. Desean could be a distraction next season if he isnt paid well. Get rid of the prick before he becomes another T.O. Theyre gonna have to address Desean pay situation ANYWAY. YOU FOOL.
Last but not least WHY IN THE HELL WOULD I GIVE AN INCONSISTENT ,INJURY PRONE PLAYER A MASSIVE CONTRACT WHEN I COULD JUST GIVE THE $$ TO A MUCH BETTER, PROVEN RECIEVER? Use your common sense dude. Its not rocket science.

In the three most important games of the season, crunch time, cold weather time, against the giants, Vikings and packers, Jackson was a non factor as a receiver, a puny fast guy, diva type, not a Philly guy, wearing that damn nationals cap, but you do not build a championship team with his type, Fitzgerald way better, can make the big play and take a hit, not even close

Why? Someone tell me why we forget how important a player is so quickly. It is unreal!!!! Jackson is a star and deserves to be paid some good money. I think top 10 WR money is fair not top 5 WR money.

Look at the carrers of the guys listed below and tell me that they were not worth the money. Is it worth the risk to not pay Jackson becuase he is small and has a higher chance of being injured. I do beleive a heavy incentive contract can fix that. Dont let a star go becuase he “night” get hurt. Lets face the facts…. it was reported that 80% ACL/MCL/Minicus tears occur without contact. So anyone can get injured no matter the size. Dont be afraid of what might happen it might end up being a big regret when he is catching 70 yards bombs on us 2 years down the road.

M. Faulk
B. Westbrook
R. Moss (yes Moss was a twig his first 4 years and never mad a living accorss the middle. Desean can do the same)
S. Moss
Mike Wallace
Marvin Harrison

Is it too much to ask that the guy eat some food and lift some weights?

He is the size of PEE WEE HERMAN. Yeah that will get us to the superbowl. Look what teams did to Vick. They did’nt even care if it was a penalty. The popped him. And it took it’s toll. Somebody is going to knock “Soulja Boy” into the Matrix grid without being plugged in. Ocho TO Fitzsgerald Driver even the guy at Carolina, all have some weight and muscle.

Desean is a gadget play. He reminds me of the explosive tony dorsett. He was only 180lb at running back, but Tom Landry knew to limit his touches. In Andy’s system this little guy will be breaking down like the other little fast WRs in Andys system,Pinkston(feet), Kevin Curtis (hernia). Don’t forget Pinkston lead the NFC in yards per catch 18.8 2004. Desean Jackson 18.5 2010.

Great players acknowledge their weaknesses and improve on them. Jordan put on muscle after getting pushed around by the Pistons. Six titles. After he learned how to pass and put on some muscle. 10-20 pounds of muscle would be a start. There are 100 million fat people in the united states that overeat without the incentive of a multi-million dollar contract. Have some T-bones a few protein shakes and do a pyramid(increase weight and lower reps each set) workout. You will get bigger and stronger.

Deseans ability dwarfs Maclins! When has Maclin took over a game? He is marginal and can barely beat one on one coverage. Desean gets all the attention #1 Corner and saftey help) and still blows up. Just think how exposed Macklin will be if Desean was not here. Stop looking at Deseans size and look at his playmaking ability. He produces each year. I am tired of he will not last. He has played in more games than Bradley, Asante, Vick, Mcnabb. over the last 3 years.

bsmvideos
January 28, 2011 2:23 pm

He needs more size and strength not only to help prevent injury, but to help him get off of press coverage. He gets taken out of games because he can not handle physical cornerbacks.

Once the Eagles embarrassed the Redskins on national TV the rest of the league decide if you were going to beat them it was not going to be with Bombs to Desean. Stubborn Andy could not make the adjustments to the short passing game, the way Dallas did the year before with Miles Austin, killing us on those slip screens.

Desean is a great talent, but I would take Wes Welker, a younger Donald Driver, Fitzgerald, Steve Smith, Boulden, roddy white and that guy from tennesee that torched the Eagles for over 200 yards in one game. Consistant every down every play guys. Not Gadget guy, that can be stopped when the chips are on the line. There was no answer for TO when he was here. Too Big Too Fast and Too Physical.

Trade Maclin and get what you can before he is exposed. Where is Maclins speed? He never takes passes to the house. How many times has Maclin ran past the CB and Safety? what does he do great? At least Desean does some things great!!!!!! Punt returns, deep routes ability to take a short pass to the house!!!!! he is scary to all DB’s. I have a freind that played @ Oklahoma and coaches there now and said that when they played Cal that they had him covered by their best Cb and Safety and still were amazed at his ability to be at top speed by step 3. Also heard that many DB’s around the league fear Desean and play 20 yards off of the ball (which is true we can all see that) Celek and Maclin should have a field day with all that room.

BSM how is Jackson a gadget WR. I think it is more Reids and Marty’s fault for not putting Desean in motion or getting him invloved more often. Also how many times have we seen this year a CB try to jam Jackson and Jackson looked covered for a second and then run right pass the CB to only be wide open and Vick wouldnt even be looking his way. Vick to often would take a glance at Desean and see bump and not stick with it. If Vick stays with Desean an extra second than he will be open almost everytime.
Peyton, Brees, Brady would have a field day with Desean and stick with him look off safties ect. They would also ghit him in stride so even more passes go to the house.
It is more difficult to find a player like Desean than a player like Britt, Driver, ect. Keep Desean and get a biger WR opposite by trading Maclin before it is to late.
