Ellis Hobbs Not So Sure About Retiring

Eagles cornerback Ellis Hobbs was expected to retire this off season after he injured his neck and/or a disc in his back during the season. He had talked about hanging it up during the season after the injuries, so he was expected to follow through during this off season.

But now he’s not so sure about retiring. “No!” Hobbs said yesterday concerning reports that he was going to retire. “I haven’t done anything. I’m just relaxing.”

I don’t know what Hobb’s physical status is, but injures involving your spine and nerves in your neck is dangerous territory, so I think he needs to retire. I’m not doing anything that dangerous but I still get treatment from chiropractor downers grove to take care of my spine. We saw him immobile, stretched out on the field and being put on the cart. I have no idea whether he’s going to have any teams which are interested in giving him the opportunity to play. They would be taking quite a chance.

The Eagles haven’t commented on it as of yet, so nobody knows whether he’ll have the opportunity to play here or not. Hobbs was mediocre in his play a year ago, so it’s not a sure thing from a performance perspective that the Birds would be interested in him returning.

Britt just scored again….Anyway

Why haven’t the Eagles brought in Atogwe ?

Oh, I forgot….The Golden Standard have better players at the safety position.

Allen and Coleman are the next Reed / Polamalu..

Damn..it’s hard to believe Brian Dawkins once played for this team.

You know what we need to do? We need to pull up the defense Ray Rhodes had and compare them to the players who were brought in to replace them.

for example..

Hugh Douglas, Jeremiah Trotter, Brian Dawkins, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, Mike Caldwell, etc.

Did the Eagles get better players to replace them?

Better yet…..Did the Eagles get players who could at least match their play?

See, that’s the difference between great teams and average to good teams. A great organization knows how to replace players adequately or hold on to players if there’s nothing comparable or better.

Songs,
Atogwe is 29 years old with a history of injuries the last couple of seasons,
The Eagles will not pursue him, they would just keep Mickell if they wanted to go this route..
As far as the Difference of Great teams vs Good Teams, this is why you
really only have the Patriots as being a great team consistently over the last 10 years or so since they know how to Draft,Pick-up key Free-Agents that fit their schemes and how to Coach.. No other Franchise does this consistently
(maybe the Steelers too) and the PAtriots still haven’t won a SUper Bowl since 2005 (6 years ago)..
Teams like Ravens,Steelers,Colts Draft and Coach real well, but don’t really partake in the Free-Agency to take them over the edge
Teams like the Chargers,Giants also Draft Well, do particapate in Free-Agency but there Coaching holds them back.
Eagles Draft Ok, Coach Ok , and recently have only particapated with mostly 2nd Tier Free-Agents the last few years.. Hence they are just an OK Team and Franchise which their record and success in the playoffs reflects..

Interesting point songs, since you are so enamoured with the ray rhodes era (how did that work out for the eagles by the way?), enlighten us. Give us an example of a great team that was great then and stayed great till now. I’m curious

Additionally Songs, for what its worth, my friend is a die hard Rams fan, and he hates Atogwe, says he was always out of position and freelancing- also claims that in that big year when he had 8 picks, a great majority of them were off deflections, not him winning jump balls, or jumping routes or things the like. I can certainly live without him. Especially at 29 as Paulman said

It seems going back to Buddy Ryan that whatever side of the ball that coach came from that was always the strenth and they could never do anything on the other side, Its amazing how we keep setting and breaking our own records on O these past few years but cant get it right on D, Schiller, I wouldnt mind having the blueprint on how the Steelers do it, 3 SBs in the past 6yrs winning 2, I noticed they dont make the playoffs the following yr but i would accept that if you in and winning the SB those other years, One thing i did read anout them and maybe the Eagles can learn this, They NEVER trade out of their spot in the draft, I think they traded out of their spot 2 times in 20 yrs, Seems to be working for them, They say this is a copy cat league, Maybe the Eagles should copy that!

the point is Schiller that these players, upon which jjohnson built a defense that carried the team to 4 championship games were players Reid inherited and under his direction they have not been replaced

Jakedog – true, with possibly the exception of Cole, and potentially Allen replacing Dawk (in time). Intially the corners were adequately replaced too, in Brown and Sheppard/Asante….but yes, the defense hasn’t been great in a while. Hence all the draft picks, coaching chagnes + we’ll see what happens this offseason.

Andrew – are you actually saying that trading around during the draft has a direct effect on who wins the superbowl? the pats trade the most and they’re considered one of the best teams/franchises – and they haven’t been able to win a suprbowl since they’re not allowed to cheat anymore.

The steelers traded out of the first round twice? that would equal the number of times the Eagles have. But for some reason the Eagles are perceived to have done it 200 times.

February 23, 2011 11:23 am

Schiller, The Steelers are one of the teams that hardly ever trade their pick, Again, they only made 2 trades in 20yrs, As far as the Pats? Its the Steelers who went to The SB 3 times in the last 6yrs n won it twice, Lets at least give it a shot that way and see what results we get, again, its a copy cat league and teams normally follow the teams that are winning NOW, and i hate to say this but right now its the Steelers!

Teams that rarely trade up or down in the Draft and typically take the best athlete on the board over the years
Steelers,Ravens,Colts,Giants and these teams have been pretty successful
over the years in adding quality players to their teams every Draft…

Andrew, Mike Vick threw a pick that ended our season. Are you suggesting that if we hadn’t traded up for Brandon Graham, that Vick wouldv’e completed that pass or not thrown it? If not, I think you’re grabbing at straws here. We can pick any other random thing the Steelers have or haven’t done and try to copy it, that won’t win us a superbowl.

Thanks for proving my point Paulman! The Ravens did trade up to get Flacco but like you said, they rarely do it, I dont believe its a problem if theirs somebody you want that leaves you no choice but that guy HAS to be a difference make, Macklin yes ! Graham NO! You cant have hits and misses when it comes to that and to trade with someone in your own division especially Dallas? Schiller, show me where The Pats something stupid like that.

Most people don’t know that the Eagles traded up to get Jerome McDougal and these same apologist relates his poor start to the gunshot, but that happened in the second year. He was garbage and did not show anything in his first year to warrant us trading up. With trading up you lose your position and another pick that might be useful.

Now, we’ve done the same with Graham who showed nothing worth noting this year and have also suffered a serious injury..while not a gunshot and injury nonetheless that will give the apologists more verbal ammunition when this guy bust just like McDougal.

so why are we discussing the pick we might get for Kolb when it’s likely we’ll draft anyone accept the player everyone knows we need?

We’ll just end up with another McDougal or Graham…or even worse.

We could end up with another Kevin Kolb.

Andrew – and trading w/i the division hurt us how? Dallas, OOH they’ve really don a bunch. And trading Donovan to Washington, really helped them and hurt us right? NOPE

You are writting off Graham after 1 year – dumb move. We don’t know what we will get out of Graham in the future. 1 year does not make an NFL career.

Shiller, is the consumate deflecter.

One would talk about the Graham waste of a pick and he’ll relate the non production of Graham to the pick Vick threw on the last play.

Two entirely different points yet he’ll make these asinine statements to deflect and divert the topics and points made.

Graham was ass this year and if he played anywhere near the level the Eagles sold us (high motor), maybe we’re not in a position to lose on the last play our season.

does that come together for you Schill?

Andrew, how many times have the Eagles done it? give me a total, becuase you are acting like it’s all the time.

Tell me whats more important – which players you get coming out of the draft, or at which spot you picked them and whether you traded to get there?

Come on, you are nitpicking at random things that don’t impact football seasons.

What’s your point, that you can find something to criticize the team for? Whopty do – congrats, you’ve accomplished a miracle.

haha songs, just can’t resist taking a shot at Kolb, but the larger point is well taken, ultimately championships are won by the personnel on the field, and this organization average to below in the draft, followed by a flawed offensive philosophy. And Banner when asked why no super bowls under Reid, he had the guts or the candid stupidity to say “I don’t know, I can’t figure it out”, well read here Banner and you might get a clue.

Schill finally said something worth noting…..

“We don’t know what we will get out of Graham in the future”.

Schill that’s the problem.

When you trade up and pick in the top 15 picks…you supposed to know what you’re getting because it cost the team too muchin time, money, and talent if wrong.

It’s starting to look like the Eagles don’t know what makes a top 20 defensive lineman when evaluating. Please don’t say coaching was the problem….What did McDougal do when he went the the Giants who coaches one of the best defensive lines in the game?

McDougal was ass….and it won’t surprise anyone here if Graham does nothing in this league.

The question is why?

Why wouldn’t it surprise any of us if Graham became just another guy?

Songs – Guess what – EVERYONE AGREES WITH YOU THAT JEROME MCDOUGAL WAS A DRAFT BUST! Seriously, you bring that guy’s name up OVER and OVER again. The percentage of NFL teams who have never messed up drafting high on a DE is 0. GET OVER IT.

As to your point about not knowing – how delussional are you that you think ANY TEAM EVER knows for sure what they are getting in a draft – no matter what position they’re drafting in – from the 1rst pick to ‘Mr. Irrelevant’!

You seriously don’t get that do you?

NFL draft picks (if used) turn out to be HUMAN BEINGS. Is that a newsflash to you? And how NFL rookies turn out playing is an UNKNOWN at the time of the draft. Is that hard for you to grasp?

Did you eat paintchips as a kid?

SONGS, you’re an idiot. Kolb is an Eagle and performed well and has helped us win games. If he completely sucked (ala Reno Mahe), I would agree with you. But he doesn’t. And his value is going to help us in the draft. The only reason you hate on Kolb is because he’s the reason the Birds traded your idol and nutslobber victim, Donovan McNabb. Now you found yourself a NEW nutslobbing victim in Michael Vick and that’s all fine and dandy, but don’t hate on the back-up….if he’s not traded, we may see him more than you think.

You think of Brown was on the team Britt would have looked like the greatest receiver to ever play the game.

Hold up….Britt just scored again,…..our so called replacement for Dawk grabbed air again.

I agree….. We should be just like the Steelers and have Reid coach this team as long as he wants til he leaves or retires…… That is how Pittsburgh does it. They had 3 coaches since 69, and the only time they got a new coach is when the old one left himself. After all, everything the Steelers do is success. I am glad y’all finally agree that Reid should be coaching here for as long as he wants.

I think the Bailey resigning is great for the Eagles. I can not see the Broncos drafting Peterson at 2 now. If we trade Kolb to Ari or SF and maybe add in our 1st rd pick and pick up their 3rd we can get Peterson or Prince….hopefully the CBA gets worked out

I know the Eagles aren’t going to look at Asmouga because they are going to weigh out this kid who I like Trevard Lindley…….. He played against outstanding wide receivers in his college years at kentucky basically “SHUT DOWN” Topnoch playmakers……… If they do get Asmouga I’ll be happy but it’s just not in Philadelphia’s nature to give older corners big money to play here……. He’s 30 years old with maybe 5years left tops……… Well ink him in for a 4 year deal……..

Time travel is an amazing concept! Ray Rhodes brought in and had all those players and he did squat with it. Yep and the world famous Eagle Fan base cry for his departure also. Do you guys remember that?

Andy comes along adds those guys and some bums on offense and nearly beats the greatest show on earth in the NF Champ game, wow to bad Rhodes could not have hung on and done that himself with his defensive players.

Get over it like it or not; love him ot hate him, Reid is the most accomplished Eagles Head coach the Eagles have had since they won the NFL championship way back in the 60’s, stop your tear wasting and nose sniffling, don’t make your sheer woefulness about not winning the big one (Of which I am proud to be a member of and a fellow cry baby for a SB), cloud your honest perspectives.

Oh and by the way this has nothing to do with wanting Reid to go or stay, this is totally different subject.
