Roseman Evaluates Cornerback Trevard Lindley

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman continued his evaluation of last year’s draft picks by talking about fourth round selection, cornerback Trevard Lindley.

According to Roseman, Lindley had a good year in his first season, but had one game which he would like to have back. He blamed the poor field conditions in Chicago for the struggles which Lindley experienced in the game against the Bears. The Birds had him out there at the right cornerback position, but he wasn’t having much success covering the Bears receivers.

Roseman didn’t think the field allowed Lindley to cut and break on the ball because the sod on Soldier Field was so loose. I don’t buy this excuse because everybody was playing on the same turf. I saw a rookie free agent Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields blanket those same Bears receivers on that same turf in the NFC Championship game and pick off two passes in the process.

I know that one of the reasons defensive coordinator Sean McDermott was fired was because he didn’t get Lindley on the field enough. The Birds were getting torched at the right cornerback position with Ellis Hobbs and Dimitri Patterson, but he didn’t give Lindley much of a chance after the Chicago game.

The front office thought McDermott made the coverages too complex for Lindley to grasp and kept a guy off the field who could have done the job at the right cornerback position. This doesn’t say much for Lindley’s intelligence, but I do think McDermott went too far with the complexity of the defense.

You’re going to see the Eagles give Lindley the chance to play, but I still think there’s a chance they could take a run at Pro Bowl Nmandi Asoumugha.

This young man has the best size and speed combination of the Birds cornerbacks. He’s got quick feet, good footwork and the toughness needed to do the job, but I don’t think it would be wise to put all of their trust in him stepping in as a starter without any experience. I think it would be wise to gradually work him in there because I do some promise in this young man.

He’s going to get pass interference penalties because he likes to be physical with the receivers. He’s most comfortable moving up into the face of wide outs in press technique. He needs to gain the same comfort when playing off of receivers. The youngster must learn to

I actually like Lindley and think he will make a good NFL CB,
He needs to play and develop his own game and confidence, but he has the tools to be a good one..

He will be a good Nickel for us next year and the year after have a good chance to take Asante spot; as Asante will be getting close to the end of his career.

Agree Godson
I see Lindley on the field a lot this season and I think the Eagles will Draft another CB in the 1st 3 Rounds, but do not see them going after anyone in the Free-agency class
I also think that T Cole and Asante each have about 2 good years left..

I AGREE THAT HE WILL GET INTERFERENCE PENALITIES AS LONG AS HE CONTINUES TO MUG THE RECEICERS. I APLAUD HIM FOR HIS AGRESSION AND HOPE THE REF DO TO.

blame the field conditions all you want, but I am not a Lindley fan…..he struggled his senior season at Kentucky and was awful in the post season games. I dont know what the Eagles saw in him, but he is NOT an NFL starting caliber CB. Another poor draft pick by Roseman.

G, that field that day in Chicago was horrible. And how can you compare him to the CB for the Packers. If im correct that CB for the Packers was on the field a WHOLE lot more than Lindley, so he was getting valuable experience. You cannot say the same for how Lindley was used. I say give him a shot…
