Collins: “I want us to build like Oklahoma City has built”

Former Sixers great Charles Barkley continues to believe that the 76ers would have a better chance of becoming a contender for a championship if they stunk up the place and lost a bunch of games in order to get a top pick in the draft.

Current Sixers head coach Doug Collins disagrees, he thinks his team is headed in the right direction as they are right now, fighting for wins every night.

Collins wants Philly’s basketball team to be built in much the same way that the team, Oklahoma City Thunder, which beat them last night was built, through the draft.

“That’s a damn good team,” Collins said. “I want to use that as a blueprint for us. I want us to build like Oklahoma City has built. They built through the draft. Their younger players have gotten better. That’s what I want us to continue to do … We think we have some good, young pieces. The difference they have right now is they have that shot-blocking in the lane.”

The Thunder was very fortunate to get their hands on two Superstars, I don’t know if the Sixers will ever be have things break that way for them. There’s not a better pair of young teammates in the league than Kevin Durant and Russll Westbrook. They pushed the Lakers to the limit last year and they’re just getting started.

Regardless of whether you become a basement dweller or go to the playoffs like the Sixers seemed to be headed, you must have some good fortune to become a contender.

What do you think is the best way build the Sixers?

In Collins I trust. I wish he would bring back Cheeks as an assistant.

One of the reasons I read from your site, as opposed to the newspapers, is because of the audio advertisements. I understand that they are a source of income. However, they are quite annoying and in the long run, I believe, chase people away. Certainly, those working in offices who check in throughout the day are dissuaded from doing so.

Just one man’s opinion.

I’m enjoying this sixer squad, they play to win to win every nite. I said tghis in previous post that a center like D cousins would have been great for this team. But I didn’t mind the evan turner pick he’s a solid player that if he works hard can become a allstar caliber player

In all honesty I know this guy has been injury prone but after this season I feel the sixers should look into acquiring Greg Oden. I feel that his injury days are behind him now, he’d provide that shot blocking presence and rebounding

Scoring isn’t our problem its the center position and just our lack of size all around

Greg Oden would be a good pickup for us

You need stars to win. The coach has done a terrific job but you can’t win without a couple stars, the kind that get drafted 1-3.

Doug Collins has made the Sixers fun to watch again. Yes, you need a superstar or two to win championships. Last years team was unwatchable. I was at the Thunder game and the house was almost full. Too bad they lost, but Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are ridiculously good players. It was fun to watch and I recommend to all (like me) who stayed away the past few years, go down to the game tonight. The house will rock.
