Phillies Sign Charlie Manuel To A Two-Year Extension

Charlie Manuel has his new contract now. He’s got a two-year deal worth $3.5 to $4 million dollars per year to manage the Phillies to a couple of World Series Championships. He’s going have to earn his money because the entire Major League Baseball world has conceded that these guys should win the title, but they may have to do it without one of their best players.

If they win Manuel will get no credit but if the team doesn’t win, everybody is going to point the finger at Charlie.

“We are pleased to have come to terms with Charlie,” said General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement released earlier today by the team. “He has been an integral part of the success we’ve had over the past several years. There was little doubt that he was going to continue to be our skipper past his current contract and we look forward to the next three years with the hopes of continued success.”

Charlie has been here six years and captured a World Series title, two National League pennants and four division titles. It’s been the best four consecutive years in the history of the franchise.

Sounds good and way to take care of one the best mangers in Baseball
Now lets go out and Sign Micky Morandini, Manny Trillo or even Dave Cash
to play 2B and this Phils team will be unstoppable
Maybe in a worse case scenario, Minor League Coach Ryne Sanberg can
still play 2B until Tuley gets healthy..

I’m so happy for Charlie!!

I don’t know a great deal about baseball, but I do know this: Charlie made a whoooooooooole lot of people eat their words. From all that I had read prior to the championship, I thought Charlie was the worst manager who ever donned a uniform. Nearly everyone said he was dumb and he was the butt of many “dumb” jokes because of speech impediment. I give Charlie credit for handling it all with class and dignity. Most importantly, after winning, he didn’t rub it in peoples’ faces. Congrats, Charlie!

I wish Andy Reid would make me eat my words, because I just don’t think his philosophy will ever win a championship. Please, Andy, make a liar out of me.

Like that old 60’s show theme used to go: It’s about time, it’s about time…..
