Hawaii RB Green Will Be There, If The Eagles Like Him Enough

Alex Green was reportedly impressive when he worked out for the Eagles and three other teams at his Pro Day April 1st. He’s the type of back that would be attractive to the Birds because he’s seems very comfortable in the passing game.

Green is a very good ball carrier, but he would fit the description of being an all around back, who catches the ball out of the backfield as well as he runs with it.

The young man led the nation in yards per rushing attempt by running for 8.2 yards a rush. He has good size, strength and speed. He ran a 4.45 in the forty yard dash at his Pro Day.

He seems to have good vision because he makes a quick decision of where he’s going with the football when he gets his hands on it. I like the way he takes plays outside when he finds the play shut down inside. Of course, that won’t be as easy to do in the NFL, but he’ll have to find that out on his own.

He played in a pass first spread offense which allowed him to run the ball against defenses which were thinking pass. Still his size and toughness should allow him to make the adjustment to pro-style offenses.

Green is expected to be more of a pass receiver on the next level rather than a runner. He catches the ball with his hands and seems to have a good feel for route-running and the timing needed in the passing game. The young man does a nice job of running screens as well as running those wide routes out of the backfield.

His blitz pick up ability was inconsistent, but he’s got the size and athletic ability to be a good pass blocker.

Green has a strong lower body which allows him to run through tackles. He runs too high and is going to get pounded on the NFL level until he learns to lower his pads.

He’s expected to go in the fourth round or later, which will likely give the Eagles the chance to draft him if they like him enough.

I see what you mean about not lowering the pads. It doesn’t look right… You expect him to blast people at the end of his runs like most RBs would, and he just stays upright. But otherwise, his highlight reel looks pretty damn good. Get him in here and let Duce show him how to blast through defenders.

We drafted Nate Ilaoa from Hawaii a couple years back. He was a short, physical, strong RB that also had good hands. He never did learn to run low or he could have been Maurice Jones-Drew.

@ IrishEagle
Loved Nasty Nate. I was actually kind of surprised he did not make the Birds (or any other team for that matter).
