Report: Eagles Have Been Offered 2012 1st Round Pick For Kolb

Peter King of Sports Illustrated reported today in his Monday Morning Quarterback piece, that there’s an unknown NFL team which has already offered a 2012 first-round draft pick for Eagles back up quarterback Kevin Kolb. The Eagles would be able to accept that offer, if and when the current NFL lockout is lifted. Right now all they can do is listen.

It’s understandable that a team or a number of teams would be willing to part with a draft pick which is a year away in order to trade for immediate quarterback help in the upcoming season. Most head coaches and General Manager think about today, this month and this season rather thinking about what is going to happen up the road.

NFL decision-makers don’t have much job security. They know how their job can disappear in an instant if they don’t win. It’s one of the reasons, so many NFL teams were willing to reach and overreach to draft quarterbacks in the 2011 NFL Draft. They all have hopes that they would be able to get a guy behind center who could help them win. Most of the teams drafting early in the draft were in that position because of poor quarterback play.

This is why the lockout and the manner in which it has been executed has been so damaging and discouraging for a team like the Eagles who have a relatively young quarterback to offer, who has had some NFL success. You would figure that most teams in need of a signal-caller would be interested in not only acquiring a quarterback, but acquiring one who has shown that he can play and get the job done on this level.

I think the Eagles are anxious to move Kolb because they will get no compensation for him, if he remains on the team throughout the season and leaves via free agency. They’re also anxious to acquire more seasoned defensive help which could come here and contribute immediately next season.

My sources (from the Starbucks Company) tell me it’s the Seattle Seahawks who will be offering a 1st Round and a 4th Round Selection in the 2012 Draft
once the lockout is lifted and player transctions/movements are allowed

That seems a little more realistic. However, I would hope the front office can pull a trade where we actually get some help asap not 3 years down the road when we will be the team in need of quarterback help.

Another reason that Seattle likes Kolb is that there new Offense/Coord
used to be the OC for the Minnestoa VIckings under B Childress so there is a lot of simialr terminology and formations which may be very handy for a Qb going to a new team and not having to learn a completely new system and especialyl this off-season with the lockouts/lack of OTA’s and even maybe shortened camp time… If this oocurs, Kolb should not have a real problem picking up a similar system that he is already somewhat familiar with which makes him even more attactive to the Seahawks

It’s just a hunch, however, I would think that Ariz would go harder after Kolb since they really weren’t that far out of the playoff race(nfc west joke). They have what we really need as far a trade chips(DB and even DE) that they can part with. MAybe they want Donovan, but why not go for kolb hard. Just feeling I have. Maybe they will sign both and donovan can back up kolb lol

take it and use to trade with a team for something that can help our D.

I’m still not understanding the situation in the courts. Is there another ruling due out today on the stay? As in… could the lockout technically be lifted again today, or not?

Asked about the team’s plan at quarterback in an interview with Danny O’Neil of The Seattle Times, general manager John Schneider said, “We had a plan going in, and we still have our plan. We just can’t execute that plan right now.”

hmmm. sounds like a plan has been in place for a while…. right pman?? wink wink.. nudge nudge

I think Buffalo is big of Fitzpatrick, but supposing they really like Kolb, I feel like they are the team to trade with.Playing in a division with the Jets and Pats, they aren’t going to win many games, and esp being the AFC. No shot at the playoffs, and probably a top 10 pick again. If we trade Kolb to AZ, they probably win the div, and with Seatle, they may suck, or they may win the div.

Id rather have a top 10 pick than DRC, who I think is overrated.

Stevo,
I talked about the Seattle being a real good landing spot for Kolb right after the Season was over Stevom well before there was even a lockout..
It’s the best fit for him, system wise, expecations wise and the team is relatively young that has talent and a aggressive coach that plays in a very winnable division (NFC West) is you can get decent to good play from your QB
The one thing any QB needs playing in Buffalo is a very strong arm due to those nasty strong, blustery winds come Oct/Nov and Dec playing in Buffalo.. I don’t think Kolb is best suited for Buffalo at all..

Another ruling will be made, but probably a good week-10 days from now from what I’ve read and heard..

It has to be Seattle…Bulger is going to Arizona and you cant win with Charlie Whitehurst.

Hearing this now makes me wonder why the Eagles weren’t more aggressive in day one and two of the draft. Why not use your own 1st round pick in 2012 as ammo to trade up like New Orleans did? Prince Amukamara was drafted 4 picks in front of them. It wouldn’t have even took a first rounder to move up that far. They could have given up a 3rd this year and additional picks on day 3 of the draft. I mean they can’t just sit back and think they are the only team in the league looking for a Corner in free agency and if there is a plan to move Kolb than why didn’t they draft a QB this year.

May 2, 2011 8:57 pm

sully, I’m not convinced that Prince is such a great prospect. Who knows how the Eagles rated him – if they wanted him so bad, they would have gotten him – they’ve traded up in the recent past. I think that they saw OL as the #1 priority with secondary as a close #2. The dropoff in OL from Watkins to the next tier was greater than Prince to Marsh. And factor in FA and their plan there.

paulman

Good points Schiller
After the top 5-7 OL there was a big drop off (mostly 3rd/4th Round material and developmental players that need 1-2 before being ready)
CB was a different story.. 2-3 That could possibly start Rookie seasons
(Petersen/Prince and J Smith) but Smith has baggage and the Eagles just simply don’t go for those type of players with Character Flags and to be honest, I am glad they don’t pursue those type of players and I would rather see a roster of hard-working, good teammates pulling for one another than a Roster spatterd with ? marks whether it be about maturity and coachability issues, drug, weapons or legal issues when coming into the NFL, let other teams and coaches and fans deal with those type of players..
There was a much better, deeper crop of 2nd Tier CB’s over 2nd Tier OL..
It’s just a fact..so Getting a Top OL in th e1st and getting a 2nd Tier CB with a lot of upside where both players fit your system was a good move by the Eagles..

not to nitpick, But I was Disappointed the Eagles did not address the TE position.. maybe C Ingram can finally stay healthy and add that element of a big play guy and big red-zone target from the TE position thats been lacking from the Eagles.. Celek is a good move the chains type of TE but thats about it,
he doesn’t stretch the middle of the field, can’t really run away from anyone so maybe Harbor steps up.. This is what really sucks about the lockout to me, is all these 2ns players the EAgles have from last years Draft are not going to develope at the pace if there was a regular off-season but thats the way it is for everyone team.. But I was looking forward to see what kind of shape and maturity some these young players like Harbor,Cooper,Clayton,Teo,Sapp,Chaney, COleman, Colt Anderson and of course the rehabbing of Graham and Allen.. Hopefully these guys are working hard and getting in that football shape for you add these guys to the veterans and with some of these new Dradt choices, there is a lot of talent, speed, and athleticism on this Roster.. CAn they play together and not only learn but master the techniques of Mudd/WAshburn some new shcemes by Castillo.. Shoule be an exciting Summer CAmp whenever it opens..

I could care less where Kolb is suited for. All I care about is what kind of compensation we get, and Buffalo would give us the best. To tell you the truth, Kolb is not really suited to start for ANY team because he just isn’t that good.

Since I correctly predicted what positions the Eagles would address (in order) for the first three rounds, as well as the majority of the draft, I will be doing the same thing with free agency in the next few days/weeks.

If Kolb is traded, its going to be for draft picks. My early prediction is that we are going to definitely make a run at Nnamdi Asamogh, and I think a strong one. The problem is, so are many other teams so I’m not sure what our chances are.

Didn’t Oakland offer a 2nd rd pick and Nnamdi for Mcnabb?

schiller

mui – that was rumor, Oakland didn’t offer that.

A factor for Namdi is that he wants to win a SB, maybe our team look like the best chance to him. Gotta take that into account.

Schiller…if Nnamdi wants to win a SB wouldn’t the Steelers or New England be a better choice for him…Even Baltimore?

There’s organizations that actually know how to win Superbowls…..Why should his desire to want a SB result in him coming to Philadelphia?

That would automatically place us out of the running for him…right?

paulman

My sources have Asmo wanting to play for Philly,Baltimore or the Redskins, I think the Eagles have a great chance of signing him…
Pats/Steelers don’t shell out big $$$ for players nin Free-agency, they will pick up Veterans at a discount when they been discarded or near the end of their playing days.. Steelers build from within and don’t pursue big $$ Free-agents

Wow Songs, you really ARE dense…..

Logically, the context of the conversation would be among teams that are going to go after him. I was basing that off of the reports (Adam Schefter I believe) that the 3 teams in the running for him would be the Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys. Teams without cap room, teams who are satisfied with their CBs enough to not want to spend big for him, and teams that just plain suck would be out of the conversation naturally.

So that’s why I said the eagles. Of the Cowboys, Redskins and Eagles, only one team has made the playoffs consistently in the recent decade. Only one of those teams has stability. Only one has a starting QB that’s healthy and without controversy (on the field).

That’s what I was talking about. I guess I had to spell it out for you.

Nnamdi said he wanted to play for Packers or Jets.

Djax was trying to convince him to play for us.

We have the money to do it and we are in the running for a SB.

Pack, Ravens, Jets, Eagles are prolly the best options for him.

Sighn him to a 5 year deal( he wouldnt sign for less pman… thats just how it works)
Trade Kolb to seattlle or whomever. Get the first rounder unless there is a stud on that teams D that we could get.

To Stevo
Don’t discount the Redskins, Owner Snider has been known to pay a ton of $$$ when he wants a top talentend player..

Paulmans list of QB landings around the NFL for 2011 Season

#1) Cardinals — Sign free-agent Marc Bulger to a 3 year Deal..
#2) Vikings — Acquire McNabb and sign him to a 2 year Deal
#3) Redskins — Sign Hasselback to a 2-3 year deal
#4) Dolphins — Acquire V Young from the Titans

#5) Seattle

I like your list…. ive been saying…

1) Mcnabb to the Vikes- Cards coult happen in a stunner.
2) Bulger to the Cards- lots of talking between them even thought its not allowed.
3) Kolb to the Seahawks.
4) Dolphins get Hasselback. Maybe he goes to the vikes though.

Man….I wish we had Buddy’s son from the Jets here instead of Reid. Football would be fun again here in Philly and he knows how to put together and coach a kick ass defense. That’s what’s philly really about. I see why Asmo want to play with the Jets. They can cut loose and have fun.

we’re coached by a damn mormon with his dry ass qoutes.

Check out this qoute Reid made about the picks….

“This is what you want to build a football team with – smart, tough guys that enjoy playing the game,” Reid said about the 2011 draft class. “I mean, you kind of like that from a coach’s standpoint.”

Smart, tough guys who like to play the game?

The top pick played rugby and hockey and couldn’t cut it so he became a fireman.

What college player don’t like to play the game?

This guy must go…I hope they totally ignore the right corner so his ass can get the boot.

He’s running out of rabbit foots….If Kolb would have played last year we would probably have a a new coach by now, but Vick saved his ass..but I really think this is the year. Please start Lindley or some 3rd tier bum..Hell invite Hobbs to camp…. I don’t know if I can bare another season with this boring stiff.

Jake and Songs – dream all you want about Rex, but I think you’ve both stated that ‘fun’ isn’t enough – you want a championship. Cowboys hired Rex’s brother Rob Ryan to be their DC which he runs a “46 scheme” that Buddy ran.. Rob Ryan has a lot more Talent to work with in Dallas then he ever did with the Browns the last 2 years..Watch for the Cowboys to be much improved defensively than last years squad..”
The Giants,Redskins and Cowboys will all have better Defenses in 2011
between their Drafts and Coaching Upgrades..
The Eagles thus far player wise have added DE Phillip Hunt, LB R Jhentry,
and some good younger players from the draft
