Vick: DeSean Jackson May Not Show Up To Training Camp

The Eagles are showing up at the Nova Care Complex today but so far speedster DeSean Jackson isn’t one of them. He has waited two years for a new contract and he might be at the point where he’s not willing to wait any longer for the Birds to give him a new deal.

The Eagles front office has promised him for more than a year that they would give him a new contract. There’s no argument that Jackson has outplayed his rookie contract while being selected to two consecutive Pro Bowls. A year ago he became the first player to be selected to start at two positions in the Pro Bowl. Jackson was selected as both a receiver and a punt returner.

Starting quarterback Michael Vick says there’s a chance that his best deep threat might not show up.

“Hopefully, he’ll be here tomorrow,” Vick told reporters. “DeSean just has some things to think about and some decisions to make that only himself can make.”

“I’m just being realistic about the situation,” Vick said. “It’s all in what DeSean wants. We’re moving forward and hopefully he’ll be here. I think he will.

Jackson spent nearly all of the off season in California. He may have been sending a message by not returning to Philly for any workouts with his teammates. We’ll have to wait and see.

Of course Jackson is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, who had previously orchestrated new contract demands by former Eagles receiver Terrell Owens.

No real surprise… but with lots of player movment,free-agency and contracts to handle for the front office for playes not under contract will take priority. So it may take a little bit (couple of weeks) before the dust settles and they sit and work out a new deal.. I wouldn’t care if the Eagles even traded him and sign FA WR S Rice …

Paul and runtheball (ha, that rhymes), you two fools – you both just reacted to someone saying that something might happen – and you reacted as if it happened. If I say right now that I heard from someone that the world might end immediately, are you able to take the next breath or even respond to me saying that?

There are lots of options out there if just in case he splits which I doubt but He wants top 5 WR money and I dont think he is a top 5 WR. I have for my top 10 WR…

1. Andre Johnson
2. Larry Fitzgerald
3. Roddy White
4. Calvin Johnson
5. Greg Jennings
6. Reggie Wayne
7. Desean Jackson
8. Wes Welker
9. Brandon Marshall
10. Miles Austin

This is not a knee-jerk reaction Schiller
It’s no secret that D-Jax has been waiting paitiently for a new Deal and that the possibility that he holds out until he gets one is a very strong one.. In fact, many of us called for this to happen back in the spring time… woop de doo…

To Verde Vricchini,

I would add WR S Rice, D Bowe,H Nicks over D-Jax/Welker and M Austin as far as WR’s go…

I suggested that the Eagles redo his contract before the beginning of last season so they wouldn’t use the technicality as and excuse last offseason. No they couldn’t do the right thing..now he wants more…Yet, they signed the Ham ripper to a new deal by forking over a 12 million dollar deal for him to hold the clipboard. This is the stuff I’m talking about. Why give and unproven bum like Kolb a contract but ignore one of the most exciting players in football?

Trade his arse to the Raiders and re-stock on Draft picks, then package the Draft picks from D-Jax, Kolb & M Patterson trades for QB A Luck in next years Draft and then the Eagles can become legitimate Super Bowl Contendors

paulman i do agree with you, i would love sydney rice. I firmly believe that when this guy is healthy his is top 3 wide reciver in the nfl. Look at his breakout year, look at what he did when tavaris jackson was thowing to him. This guy was going up and getting balls over damn double and triple coverage lol. Guys an animal if he can stay healthy. But theres no way that happens so i might as well toss it in the trash

got to agree with my brother songs on this one, the dude may be a punk, but he can play and is a game changer, the birds management should have wrapped him up, can’t blame Jackson, no money, last year on a contract, gets wacked across the middle, no pay day, no future, he will sit this out, can’t blame him, way underpaid

Joe (Nickles) Banner with his shifty eyes rolling boogers is trying to find away to squeeze another underpaid year out of a top talent like DJax.

(While rolling) He’s thinking…..”I can’t use the going into a CBA year excuse”….”Hmmmm” ..”I can’t use the over 30 excuse” (still rolling) “He’s at the prime age of when we look to lock up players long time on the cheap…But he have really outplayed any cheap contract we could offer….

Pencil Breaks in one hand….(Still rolling in the other)

“hmmmmm” “How can I protect our Shekels?”

To be continued……………….

Joe Banner can simply say “Anyone who has smoked pot in the last 5 years gets no contract renegoitiated.” If D-Jax wasn’t a “420 Head” when he was in College, he could have been a 1st Round pick and gotten big $$$, If he didn’t mouth off to his coaches and throw tamper tantrums like a little kid while he was at Cal he would have been a 1st Rounder and if he didn’t get caught Stealing while in College, he could have been a 1st Round PIck.. Anyone see a pattern here.. ..

anderson silva
anderson silva
July 26, 2011 3:25 pm

Also, please let us all recall that he could not have gotten a renegotiated long term contract last year dure to the finance rule of the uncapped year. It put limits on the amount of money a contract could indrease over the previous year’s deal. He understood that last season, as did his agent. So the “he should have gotten a new deal last year” argument fails automatically. He will get a new deal from the Eagles this season, maybe now, maybe later, but this situation was unavoidable due to the CBA rules that the NFL operated under last season.

July 26, 2011 3:31 pm

ok, so he should get a new deal this year, but who can blame him for sitting out, especially with all this talk about bringing plaxico in, this super talent is one hit away from oblivion with no financial security, i don’t particularly like him, but he can play, pay him

anderson silva
anderson silva
July 26, 2011 3:56 pm

And before anybody brings up Kolb’s deal for last year, let’s think a moment. It was a short term contract, two years, all the money in the first year and in the form of a roster bonus, so none of it carried over to 2011. By doing so, the Eagles bought themselves a year’s look at Kolb. If he did not play well, they had only 1.25 mil invested in him for the 2011 season, backup money. If he did play well, they had another year to work out a long term deal. Due to the impending labor uncertainty, they didn’t do anything rash, just played it safe, and left their options open. It also left open the possibility that they might want to trade him and keep Vick instead, a lot easier to trade a guy with a 1.25 mil salary than a huge contract. Masterfully played by Joe Banner. Now let us apply this situation to DeSean Jackson. He is underpaid, due to his fall in the draft. But last year’s financial rules left him without many options. Salaries could not be renegotiated if the new deal increased pay over a certain percentage, I think it was around 30% or so. That is not going to get DJax the money he wants, so a long term deal is out. He and Rosenslob are not looking at 2 year deals either, nor are the Eagles. Rosenpig would get laughed out of the agent’s union if he had a talent like that signing a short term contract, with injury a possiblility, and DJ is a little guy. The Eagles would have to pay him big upfront money, risk him getting hurt under that deal, and have nothing to show for it. Plus that raises the spectre of having to renegotiate a new deal the very next year with Jackson, so that is out. The Birds want to lock up Jackson for a few years, Jackson wants to sign for a few years. They could not negotiate during the “unpleasantness”, so we are here today. It could not have gone any other way. It will get handled, I saw DR speak at one point about he had learned his lesson about how to talk to the Eagles, not try and brute force it. They will get a deal done, nothing to see here folks, move along and head on home.

It’s a damn shame how he’s really our #1 offensive threat and you stupid mofo’s dog djax like that. They should of been paid him last year and we wouldn’t be in this mess. That’s why when Djax makes those spectacular plays like meadowlands 2 and you idiots on here act like you’re proud of em, then turn around and dog him like that; you’re not true fans. Support your playmakers you bunch of pu_ _ys. The man deserves top dollar. look at steve smith and his size; he was the panthers #1 threat during his prime. If Djax was to leave I wouldn’t be mad at him because this team has been shittin on him since after his first year here. He deserves top dollar imo and you idiots talked about Vick the same way and now ya’ll kissin his ass. They could not pay himwhat he wanted last year, I repeat, they could not pay him what he wanted last year. This holdoout is not about money, I am sure Andy knew he was possibly a no-show, like Westbrook a few years back. It is not about the money, a contract is coming, it is about not getting hurt before he signs. Do you recall 36 sitting out a preseason game a few years ago, because he had not signed his new deal. He was literally at the office writing his name when the Birds kicked off. This is not begging for a new contract, it is just being cautious. THE EAGLES COULD NOT SIGN HIM TO A LONG TERM DEAL LAST SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS ABOUT THE RULES OF THE UNCAPPED YEAR VS. YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT PART OF THAT CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND???????????????????????

Maybe Jackson should talk to Reno Mahe and ask him how it is in the real world.

Players can sometimes out perform their contract and ask for more money.

But How many voluntarily give money back when they underperform their contract?

I think the Eagles would have already given him more money if he had put on at least 1 pound since he’s been in Philadelphia. It’s a city full of chesssteaks and he’s still the size of a High School Player.

Jackson is an asset no doubt, but I wonder how committed he is go getting better, and becoming an all-around receiver who can take a hit and not look for a soft spot to fall all the time.

This isn’t knee jerk because you know even if he does show up that he’s going to play through his contract that he hates and he won’t play to his full potential and then when he gets his new contract everyone will want new contracts. The thing that pisses me off is that drew rosenhaus is involved once again. This guy is like 0 for 20 with the eagles in making good contracts for his clients. I’m just so sick of these kids going with drew rosenhaus who knows absolutely nothing obviously. Add to the fact that we don’t have owners and a president who pay like a jerry jones type owner. So this is going to be a big to do and detract from the team. I love desean but man i hate this shit. I guarantee this happens with lesean mid way through this year. If you guys don’t see what i’m saying then i can’t explain it anylonger…

anderson silva

July 26, 2011 6:15 pm

Rosenhaus gets clients because he charges a smaller percentage than most agents. I think they get 4%, he only takes 2.5%. I’d still like to arm-bar him, but he has not had a rookie get to camp late in a couple of years, and he rarely, if ever, gets into those kinds of all-out fights anymore, and never with the Eagles. He even said so in an interview. Desean will be fine, this is a non-issue. He’s not even late to camp yet. No worries here, I am just curious what the Eagles have planned for all of the cap space they appear to be clearing. Plus, you need to keep in mind, the Cowboys are cutting players just to get under the cap, they are paying now for throwing money at the wrong guys. Jerry Jones is no owner you would want. He got lucky one time with the H Walker trade and JJ at the right time. He has done nothing since except run that franchise into the ground. One of my college roomates lives outside Dallas, the news down there is everybody is praying he has a coronary so they can get rid of him once and for all. He’s an embarrassment to them.

I’d be surprised if the Eagles don’t make DJax a very good offer soon. Maybe not top 5, and I think he’s an amazing player but not top 5. DJax needs to make allowances for the fact that they’re barely more than 30 hours in to this season. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the priority is rookies and top free agents. He needs to come in and give the team a little time. If nothing very promising happens in a couple of weeks then get drastic.
