Giants Release Former Phillie Outfielder Pat Burrell

CSNBAYAREA.COM reports the acquisition of Carlos Beltran forced the Giants to part ways with former Phillies left fielder Pat Burrell.
Burrell was on the Giants Disabled List due to a bone spur in his right foot but the Giants needed to clear a spot on the team’s 40 man roster for Beltran, and Burrell was the casualty.

Burrell is batting .233 this season with 7 homeruns and 22 RBI’s.

The Phillies are in desperate need of a right handed bat, however, hopefully Phillies fans are smart enough to know Burrell’s best days are now behind him. That being said, expect a plethora of calls to WIP and the Fanatic in the next couple days from Phillies fans requesting the services of Pat Burrell.

wouldnt mind him coming off the bench.

wip still talks sports? news to me, every time I change over to that station, they are talking non-sports. today was coffee and things that they would have looked for in a woman when they were in their 20’s….this is the main reason that I stopped listening to them.

I think you need to delete this–Pat Burrell WAS NOT AND IS NOT going to be released by the Giants. He’s currently on the DL–the Giants DFAd INF Bill Hall instead.

The Giants designated infielder Bill Hall for assignment to open a roster spot for newly-acquired Carlos Beltran, tweets Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Hall, 31, hit .158/.220/.211 in 41 plate appearances for the Giants, playing mostly second base. He’d been released by the Astros previously after signing a $3MM contract in December.

11:00pm: The Giants are not releasing Burrell, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter).

Both of those are from mlbtraderumors.com., which has all of the news as it’s happening.

Wasssup, Bobby is right, Last night both CSN Philly and Bay Area reported Burrell was cut but then it came out later the report changed…I was just passing along their report in this article…LOL one of the many reason to site sources for a report, when it goes wrong blame them!
