Eagles Defense Needs To Go To A Tackling Clinic

All I could do was shake my head as the Jarrad Page, Nmandi Asomugha, Jamar Chaney, Nate Allen and Asante Samuel missed tackles as the Bills drove the ball for touchdowns.

Page ran by Fred Jackson on the first touchdown play. Page was running into the Bills backfield and Jackson had the ball and was running right by him.

Earlier in the drive he had Jackson cornered in the hole with very little space for the running back to go, but he missed him. I wonder if he closes his eyes when he tackles. Page launches at ball carriers from a distance, which causes him to miss tackles.

Asomugha isn’t bending his legs when he’s tackling. He’s bending over from his waste rather than bending his knees. Asomugha is also launching at ball carriers like Page rather moving in close to them with his center of gravity down low. You want to get in close and up under the ball carrier before you explode your thighs and hips. Once you get a ball carrier off the ground, they have no more power to push off the ground and run.

Samuel doesn’t seem to have any interest in tackling anybody for the last couple of weeks. I think the comment Frank Gore made about the Eagles quitting last week was aimed at Samuel for his soft tackle at the goalline, as Gore went in for the winning score.

Tackling is like having a fight with the ball carrier. You’ve got to go after the ball carrier with an angry attitude. Add fundamentals to the right attitude and you will have a good tackler.

Again good tackler is balanced and tries to get their feet as close as he can to the ball carrier. It’s like wrestling. You want to get in close then explode from up under the ball carrier. If you launch at these good runners in the NFL from a distance, it’s going to give them a chance to move and cause you to miss the tackle. You want to be low in a crouch and ready to explode, once you get close to the target. The movement to the ball carrier must be quick with intensity.

We used to aim our head at the chin of the ball carrier, but that’s illegal, so you have to make the tackle with a shoulder. Once you explode your hips and thighs into the ball carrier, you also need to you make the tackle by wrapping your arms around the ball carrier.

I was always taught to grab through the jersey to get to the flesh of the ball carrier. You must use your arms and hands to tackle.

I hate those stupid collision tackles, where guys collide into the ball carrier without wrapping him up.

In the open field, you don’t need to knock the ball carrier out. You need to get him to the ground and that means using your hands and grabbing some jersey.

Did the tacklers hand the Bills the ball 3x in the first Q? Did the tacklers hand them 14 pts? Did the tacklers take another 3 Eagles’ pts off the board with an 8 second brain cramp? Did the tacklers take another 3 or even 7 pts off the baord with the early screen INT in Buffalo territory?

Tackling is bad. D is bad…..so especially important to stop giving the other team the ball again and again.

Tackling camp would take effort, desire, heart, skill & a beanbag! There is no one, on this LB & secondary corp, that I see with any of those qualities! Asomugha all of a sudden looks like he’s lost & clueless! Asante couldn’t tackle my dead Grandmother! Page, Allen, Matthews, Fokou, & Patterson, need to never see the field again!! Useless steaming bags of dong!

Wow, is that an indictment on the QB… that’s what’s wrong with the TEAM now. Always trying to lay blame on someone. This TEAM needs to play better, football is not an individual sport its a TEAM sport. EVERYONE has to do their part. So if blaming Vick is the solution, then so be it, but recognize, there are many, many more factors to the execution on the football field.

this eagles team is a disgrace to the tradition of the franchise and the city of Philadelphia, take a look at that photo of Reggie White, Seth Joyner, remember concrete Charlie, Byron Evans, Andre waters, Brian Dawkins, nmandi should drop the m from his name because he plays like a mandi, Samuel is softer than summer dog diarrhea, Jackson, diva, punk ass, “boney james”, credit bsmvideos , and Pullman is correct, no NFL coach will want to coach this team when it is saddled with the 100 million dollar mistake over 5 years, mv7, starship 7, ooh, ah, how’s that working, get big, physical, smart football players in here, ship out the divas, get back to Philadelphia football

I would release Juqua Parker this morning to send the message that these continual mental lapses will not be tolerated…
Not to change the subject, anyone see the Seahawks DL A Hargrove knife thru the Giants OL and get a Safety on tackling GIants Runner in the End-Zone.. A big mistake again by Eagles in releasing Hargrove..
Can anyone tell me why Trevor Laws is still on the Eagles Roster..

I agree, why isn’t Jarrett on the field, lets see what he has

Jarrett is not NFL Ready as Matthews and Watkins weren’t either…
At Safety, the Eagles thought they had some better options (Page & Coleman) which haven’t really panned out… I would play COlt Anderson a little bit..

Paulman….Does Page or Allen look NFL ready to you?

Put in the 2nd rounder…he can’t be worse than what we’re currently viewing

I already stated that Safety Page should be released along with DE J Parker and LB Clayton and TE Harbor … Jarrett’s biggest issue is that he has not been able to learn the 5 page Defensive Playbook that Juan Castillo has put together and I thought Temple was a good academic school… Bill Cosby is a fraud too
No one from Philadelphia is safe anymore in my book..

What happened to Jaiquawn Jarrett?…I seem to remember him playing pretty well in the pre-season…We need help at safety…Is he in someone’s doghouse?…Maybe he doesn’t understand Juan Castillo’s ‘scheme’?

frank – I want to see him on the field too. He just seems to be instinctive and a playmaker to me. I think he may be lacking in pass coverage, but we have the perfect secondary for that not to be an issue. I’d love to see DRC and Jarret at the ‘safety’ spots with Allen (he DID look better last week) and Coleman peppered in as rotational players for the time being.

But in all reality, it’s week 6 of his rookie season in the context of a really shaky defense (duh). Regardless of what happens this year, I doubt that there’s much of a specific reason he’s not playing. He’ll have his day.

schiller: Right: the kid seemed to be a hitter…We need someone who likes to hit…Give him a shot, and let him loose, keep it simple: Bust somebody up…We have the cover guys.

Eagles should have re-signed Q Mikell to help these young Safeties along and could at least offer Veteran Leadership to the back end of the Defense with so many new faces and new Coaches back there… This was a big mistake

The only thing that is Incessant here is your continued belief that Coach AR is not the biggest obstacle and problem this Eagles Franchise faces in trying to win a Championship… How about that Schiller.. .
