Jason Avant Called A Players’ Only Meeting This Morning

Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant called a players only meeting this morning, but he refused to share any information about what went on during the players only session.

“That’s the team-only stuff, that’s the players’ stuff”, Avant said. “I won’t comment on that, because that’s in-house, but we definitely support our coach on every side. This is a Philadelphia Eagles thing. The players have to come up and do their part.”

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick did divulge that Andy Reid was one of the subjects at the meeting. Vick stood up for Reid today when asked about whether Reid and his coaches shoulder some of the blame for the losses.

“I know it’s not Coach’s fault,” Vick said. “It’s not Coach’s fault. Coach can’t go out and hold onto the ball. Coach can’t throw the ball down the field. Can’t go out there and do it, he can only give us what we need. The recipe for victory and that’s what we need.”

I like that fact that the Birds had a players only meeting. This is not about who call the meeting. This is the time to put up or shut up. I still believe this team will make playoffs. Obviously they must beat this Skins this week. The Birds have beat themselves the last three games. Once they start focusing on stop make the mistakes during the most critical times in the game then we will see their real potential. Our offense needs to carry the defense until we get Cole back. I see Vick taking his game to the next level once he does that everyone will start playing better and we will finally see the real Eagles. Birds 38 Skins 21!!!!!!!!!!

Predicting scores is rediculous unless you are a professional.

no way the Eagles score 38…. the o-line is going to have their hands full and Vick will be running for his life again… it will be close, but in the end, the Eagles will make another mental mistake to cost them the game.. skins 20 Eagles 17

I think the Redskins win going away 29-19
I think Vick gets knocked out and weget our 1st glimpse of Vince Young (and it isn’t a pretty one either)
The Rushing Combination of R Torrain, A Highsmith and R Helu rush for 225 yards as the Skins win the Time Battle 39 Minutes to 21 by road grading the Eagles front 7.. Immediately after the game, CB Assante Samuel demands a trade to a team where he doesn’t have to tackle as much.. Eagles then trade him and Vince Young to the Arizona Cardinals for QB K Kolb back

Coach didn’t let go of akers?

Coach didn’t let Stew Bradley walk?

Coach didn’t play Jaquin Jarret instead of Page?

Coach didn’t move up in the draft and take a D end?

Coach didn’t take a 26 year old guard when we needed a RT?

Coach didn’t draft linebackers?

Coach didn’t put an offensive lineman in as Def. Coordinator?

I’m so sick of this Eagles organization. They try to control the narrative and the truth. I would be willing to bet Schiller and Navy are bought and paid for bloggers. Hell they have Dave Spadaro control the media on the web page and they try to control sports radio by sweet talking Eskin. Too bad they can’t reign in everyone who knows the truth.

Truth is that defenses are being torched thus far, truth is that no team has run away withthe game, and give me any of that “Foot off the pedal’ nonsense either every team in the league knows how explosive this team can be and thus they will run the score up if they could.

So with all our turnovers and mishaps, brain farts we are still in every game. Look I am just a normal fan, not an X/O guy i don’t sit after the game and rewatch the game and analyize it from the FOX Network only camera angles and think I know something that the Analysist and coaches with every camera angle in the house at the disposal don’t know.

Runtheball09, everything you say is correct (I hate it when you guys are right errrrr), but this is players issues on offense. The defense it was the coaches, but I think they have learned. Sometimes the only way to get it, is to GET IT.

Got to go to work see you brothers on the other side.

I know I’ll get crap, or get called a paid blogger, but here is what I honestly believe. I may be eating a crow sandwich on monday, but I really think that holding a team meeting, and people sticking up for the coaching will send this team in the right direction. Granted, it’s easier to sit here and talk bad about them, and if you are wrong, you dont lose anything, because the eagles are winning, but whatever I’ll be the idiot to say it.

This is a team that had all the players and talent in the world to win a superbowl, regardless of the line backers, safeties, coaches, anything. No team is perfect, all teams had holes, and the eagles holes should of been covered by talent in other areas. A players meeting, and standing up for the coaches seem to me that this is the first game where these guys will be playing as a team, I think they know that their season is on the line, and a win, combined with a giants loss puts them a game out of first place going into the bye week.

Call me crazy, call me stupid, but this is the week this team gets turned around, and they will win either by a large margin, or in a come from behind fashion this weekend, and start the turn around 1 game early.

great to read your optimism ZOltek and you are right that the Eagles Have lots of talent in lots of area..but they also have lots of weaknesses and holes in may areas too… and without T Cole and DT A Dixon, this Front 4 of the Eagles becomes very average very quick with no real beef (outside of Jenkins) and stamine and staying power..
The only real shot I see here is if Redskins Coach SHanahan gets so amped up to beat the Eagles bad that he calls a stupid game plan and tries toput up 40-50 points to make up for that National Embarrasment Game from last Season.. Now if Shanahan is smart and just runs the ball between the tackles right at the teeth of the Eagles Defense and then short passes, screens to Samuels SIde, I see no way that the Eagles Defense will prevent then from marchniog up and down the field all game long keeping the exposive Eagle Offense on the Sidelines..
I see no one defensively who can match up with Redskins TE Cooley and Davis.
I sensed last week that Bills HC Gailey felt sorry for Coach AR and took the pedal off the floor, so to speak and was concentrating on running out the clock instad of scoring points… This will not be the case with the Redskins who will push to score and beat up athe Eagles all game long to take that ugly taste of last years blowout defeat to the Eagles.. Redksins Safety Leron Landry will be looking to take some heads off (D-Jax/Maclin).. this game has all the makings of the “Body-Bag Game” of years ago when the Eagles and Buddy Ryan’s Defense pummeled the then Houston Oiles “tick and tack offense” and Smallish WR’s out of the game.. I think the Oilers had 5-6 Starters leave that game due to injuries and getting walloped by the Eagles..Unfortunately the Eagles are the now the Smaller, Softer team now which was buiklt by Coach AR… Time to move on…

you can sit here and analyze the game as much as you want… but this has nothing to do with what is on paper honestly. And I even agree with what you are saying

Not many people saw how the cardinals could win a short series with 3 games against halladay and lee, but it happened… before week 1, everyone and their mother would have this game down as an eagles win. Everyone had washington in the andrew luck sweepstakes in preseason… so there is no way that the eagles cant, and shouldnt win the game. They have injuries, they dont match up, they are on the road… but now is the time where they need to win a game and start shutting people up.

If they lose on sunday, I think the fallout will happen shortly after. Noone on the team wants to see that happen. As much as the players need to step it up and win this game, Andy needs to step it up and beat shannahan… They need to win more than washington does.

I thgouhy the Basebvall Cardinals matched up very well with the Phillies and was not surprised at all with the outcome since they were playing PLayoff baseball for a month leading into the Serie while the Phils were on “cruise control”.. Too many Philly Fans in general, only know and follow their hometown teams and have no idea about other teams players, talent and coaches or strategies of their opponents which usually leaves to must “wishful thinking” and “pie in the sky” expectations.. I hate to be a jerk and rain on fans parade’s all the time, but some of us have to reveal and comment to what the deficiencies and problem areas are of our favorite teams even when it hurts to do so because you won’t hear it from the Teams themselves or from most of the Local Media since they are cahoots with these clubs and cannot be too critical and fear of losing access..
It’s a shitty job sometimes, but someone has to do it and it may as well be me..

You can say that a lot of people have hope, and are too involved in local things… regardless, the phillies should of beaten, and are a better team than the cardinals… the phillies beat the phillies.

Honestly, no offense to you personally, but all the media now is negative, there is noone that gets paid money, or is a member of any website/blog or anything that views things the way I do, I even wrote for a local blog that will remain nameless, and since I didnt write a bunch of negative crap, and stupid stories, stopped posting all of my posts. All people want to hear is jokes about how made the eagles are, how bad the phillies are, etc, etc. Follow les bowen on twitter and see what I mean… he is the same way every sports/beat writer in this city is anymore… and its worse now, than it ever was.

For example, the flyers almost blew a game to the western conference champions, and still won (and are undefeated!)… and the post on here has complaints. There will never EVER EVER EVER in a million years, be a time where a team plays perfect for an entire season. I guess people have to make their money somehow, but pointing out that a guy sneezed while up 3 goals and got a penalty, doesnt really seem like a job that people should get paid for.

What’s even more sad, is that there arent enough of “me’s” to counter out the nay sayers, not even close… the TWO that I have seen on here, get called “paid posters”

RTBag – do you really, honestly, truly think the eagles pay people to blog for them? And really, what statement do you have from me EVER, that can be in any way viewed as a propoganda piece – you take someone (me) with a common sense approach that refuses to get anrgy or mad or fell like he is being cheated or denied his birthright that the eagles will go to the playoffs – and you try and berate, belittle or accuse of being paid for the eagles – dude I wish – I right this shit for free! Throw me some scratch!

and then, logically, couldn’t we say that songs, you, dcar, and several others on here are paid cowboys bloggers on here to spread hate and discontent –

and Dave Spadaro has the greatest job in the history of mankind – OK second, I would take Ron Jeremy’s career over Spadaro’s, but get over it, the guy is PAID to be the Eagles PR guy – what a fantastic job………

why don’t you try relaxing, and viewing football as a fun escape from life’s pressures – a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon (morning for me) watching your team play – it is in fact supposed to be fun

Zoltek – nice posts buddy – I’m with you – till the end my friend – been there at 3-13, will be there the day they win the SB –

I agree with you navy… I hate enough things about my life to have to hate one of the handfuls of things that bring my joy. It’s fun to watch them win, and its fun to watch them come back from when their bad.

I dont always think they will succeed, or win a super bowl every year… But I also never think their season is over in week 5.

REDSKINS 36
EAGLES 23

TORRAIN WILL RUN FOR 200 YARDS UP THE MIDDLE AND THROUGH THE RIGHT SODE ALL DAY.

THERE’S NO TALENT I’VE EXAMINED THAT CAN STOP HIM FROM THE LINEBACKER POSITION.

THE EAGLES WOULD BE BETTER OFF SCRAPPING THE WIDE 9 AND GO WITH A 3-4 ALIGHNMENT TO STUFF THE RUN WHILE HAVING ENOUGH PLAYERS ON THE 2ND LEVEL TO COVER.

YOU CAN’T RUN A COVER 2 WITH A WIDE 9

IT LEAVES THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD TOO OPEN!
