Eagles Saying All The Right Things, But Not Playing Like It

It’s not a good thing for an NFL team to be answering effort questions with five games remaining in the season.  The Eagles still have a mathematical chance to make the playoffs this season, but it doesn’t look good.

This football team says they’re committed to playing hard the rest of the way.  Notice that didn’t promise to play well they are talking about effort.  This is the most inconsistent ballclub that Andy Reid has coached during his 13 seasons.  They’ll be taking a five-hour flight to Seattle on Wednesday afternoon, then they’ll play a game against the Seahawks about 24-hours later.

“I’ve got a good locker room, a good coaching staff, they’re working hard and they’re getting themselves ready for the Seattle Seahawks,” Reid said during his media session yesterday. “That’s where we’re at. Every season presents its issues and you’ve got to fight through them.”

The players are saying all the right things, but they’ve been saying the right things all season long, but their play hasn’t been on the same level.

“I mean, guys are just working, guys are just working”, Vince Young said yesterday. “We’re definitely upset about some things, we have the right to be because we’re all competitors and we love to compete, we love winning games, but at the same time we can’t let that stuff drag us and now we have to get back to work because like I said, it’s another game coming up this week, next week. So we just have to be prepared.”

No they should be prepared but they don’t have to be prepared.  After all there have been quite a few games that they haven’t been prepared for this season.

“Well, I think any player that’s a football player and is competitive and most of the guys that have made it to the NFL don’t have to search for motivation for playoffs or anything else”, center Jason Kelce said. “When you play the game you just go out there and you play. And I don’t find that any different here. It doesn’t matter if you’re 1-15 or 15-0, you’re going to go out there and play your hardest if you’re a true competitor.”

I could help but ask myself if this team is full of true competitors.  My answer was no. True competitors would be losing five games in which they led in the four quarter.  A true competitor plays better in the fourth quarter rather than worse.

“We’re going to go out there and play hard regardless of what the situation is”, Jamar Chaney said. “But this is something that everybody in here dreams of playing and we’re all blessed to be here playing in this position, so I don’t think any of my teammates are going to go out there and take it for granted and just go out there and go through the motions”.

Maybe Chaney doesn’t know his teammates as well as he thinks he does.  Going through the motions is exactly what the Birds have done in numerous games.  I think the Birds are going to lay an egg against the Seahawks and wouldn’t be surprised if they get beat.  Who knows about this squad?

They beat the 2 teams ahead of them in their conference and looked good doing it

A weird season

I think the Eagles have a real QB problem

Vick is constantly sustaining injuries that keep him from playing

Young doesn’t seem like the answer

Who knows about Kafka–until he has a chance to play –not just fill in

The future looks bleak

It is rare to be a winning team without a decent QB and I don’t see any

rcp, I agree man. At least McNabb you knew what you were getting…. ground balls and all. I’m not sure what to expect from the QBs we have on the staff now. I think if Andy is gone after this season, whether we like Andy/McNabb or not, we’ll miss the stability that comes with having a good coach and good QB over a long period of time.

What they say anymore, is meaningless to me. It is all verbal diarrhea, at this point. STFU, & play like men, & win a f^#@ing game. If they really wanted to play for their coach & his job, it would show on the field. It doesn’t look to me that they even give a $#!t, at this point. So why should I give a $#!t about these overpaid, baby stiffs!? They have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, just like I have a 10M-1mathematical chance to win the lotto! GTFO!!!
