Time Is Of The Essence For Eagles, As They Prepare For Thursday Night Game

Time is more valuable this week than it normally is when the Eagles are getting ready an opponent.  They normally would just be taking a look at the game plans today, but everything has been sped up because they’re playing on Thursday rather than Sunday.

Today the offense and defense would get their first look at the overall game plan.  In practice today, the offense would get most of the time to put in their run and pass plays against the scout team defense.  On Thursday the defense gets the majority of the time.  On Fridays they work on specific situations such as goalline, short yardage, and red zone.

This week it’s only Wednesday and they’ll have to jump on a plane this afternoon and head to Seattle for a game tomorrow night.

“Game planning [and] just making sure that you know everything that’s going on”, Vince Young said yesterday. “I know we crammed everything in today but you just have to get a little extra study time in and I feel like everybody should be okay.”

“Everything gets condensed,” backup tight end Clay Harbor said. “Normally, you spread it out, base offense and defense, red-zone, short yardage and nickel. Now, it all gets pushed into one day, and it’s a lot of stuff, a lot of verbiage, a lot of changes in the offense we do week to week depending on the defense we get.”

Andy Reid will try to take a shortcut by including as much of last week’s game plan as possible in the Seattle game plan.

“What you try to do is you try to carry over as many plays as you possibly can, formations and plays, from an offensive standpoint that you had the week before, and then add what you need to add”, Reid said yesterday. “I’m saying the plays that you didn’t run the week before, and then add what you need to add from there. That’s what you attempt to do there, yeah.”

Many of the players will be studying their game plans while on the plane on the cross country trip.  A veteran team which has been together for a while would have an advantage with this short turnaround time.  A player has to be sure about their assignments in order to play fast and aggressively.

“So we came in on Monday, today, and then you have to do a lot of stuff on your own, too”, middle linebacker Jamar Chaney. “And we have a long flight to Seattle so pretty much everybody has laptops and what not. So you can use that time as well to get to know them a little better.”

The fact that the Birds have to spend most of today traveling to Washington state puts them at a disadvantage to the Seahawks when it comes to practice time.  The Eagles have had only one and half days of practice compared to the three days for Seattle.  This is troubling when you think about how poorly prepared they’ve been for games this year when they’ve had a full week to get ready.

Look on the bright side guys. Our hopes and childhood dreams were high going into to playoffs untill Reid ran his RB 10 times, QB passed too much and gave up INTs, and D did not stop the run and were dead tired at end of games cause too many 3 and outs with his genuis philosophy…..Thank u Andy now we do not have to have our hearts ripped out at the end of the year we can just know their is no chance at the beginning and it will be easier on us….(actually, a knowledgable hardcore eagle fan new this during the bad NFC losses) Remember , Packers really should have won the game with miracle 4th q catch, it would have saved us by getting crushed by Panthers…..When we got crushed by Bucs and Panthers, and SB loss it came all together, especially when Pats coach B. did not understand Reid decisions….Bill u were not the only one!!!!!!

Then what happened, we went into a game against the Saints with Garcia….Close game but we should have won….It was another RB no rushing and QB int day…..That’s when i honestly knew we have no shot with Reid and wondered when Lurie would figure it out,,,like i said before, we could have Joe Montana and Reggie White and we still lose with Reid

My Gameplan by andy reid

1. Put players in better position.
2. commit to the run (jk marty m,… dont worry, i wont do that to us)
3. Protect the qb- if he gets a rib por leg broken, remember to throw 3x more
4. abandon the run- afterall it’s a throwing leaague
5. Remember to use all timeouts within the first 8 mins. Extra credit if you use one after a kickoff.
6. Let the ball boy call special teams plays this week- afterall… he is a hard worker with a high motor… he deserves it.
7. POST GAME-talk about putting my players in a better position and needing to do a better job. Also…. defend my decition to start this year off without hiring a D cordinator.

tonto – when you are done your pitty party and feeling sorry for yourself – get it together. Geez – a fan from another team comes on here we (collective group of posters on GCOBB) must look like the sorriest group of pussies – all this talk about a ‘soft’ team –

Really tanto – busting on the 4rth and 26 – cause the next week your va – jay – jay got sand in it? Ever see one of those Don Cheedle commercials – 10 secs is fovever –

and tonto – what game are you talking about – Garcia was not intercepted that day – the eagles lost 24 to 27 but anyone that I know that knows anything about football were more concerned with the fact the eagles gave up over 200 yards of rushing and brees was 20 of 32 – the eagles had a couple missed chances – but the saints stoned westborrok on a run and a pass in the red zone and then the famous first down but scott young flinched his left ass check (andrews injuried neck) – westborrok I think finsihed with over 100 yards rushing – but in typical eagle fan fashion – don’t let facts or history get in the way of a good story – stick with the no RB QB int day

We can only hope they lose out the rest of their games so Lurie has no choice but to work out an agreement to have Andy “resign”. Andy will then most likely have a clause where he can only take an AFC coaching job, a la, the Chargers or Jaguars.
If I am Lurie, the two candidates that are perfect are Packers Winston Moss & Patriots Bill O’Brien…. both would probably raid their current staff for coordinators…..Moss would bring Darren Perry to run the Birds defense and QB coach Tom Clements to run the offense……O’Brien would bring DL coach Pepper Johnson to run the defense…

Jott – ‘hope they lose out’ – a pox on you and your family – may locusts descend and eat your crops and your livestock die off – too biblical –

I hope a varmit crawls up under your house and dies and you can’t find the rotting corpse and mold spreads into you walls –

and I think it will be a ‘medical’ issue where AR takes a year off – and in all seriouness gets himself healthy – then he will be back – I think he needs a change of scenary – it will be better for him and the team –

then I can switch to the dark side and point out every single thing the new coach does wrong…

Point was Andy cost us that Garcia/Saints game too!!!! No int for Garcia, but he was 15/30…..no reason for 30 passes…….Westbrook rushed 13 times for 116 yds……Yes, that’s is 9 yds a carry….i repeat our beloved RB was rushing 9yds/carry and he ran 13 times…that was my point Navy and is a good one..i am very surprised we didn’t want Andy head back then but we do hope for the best….Man, i forgot we had a 6-10 season after our SB loss yr….

no tonto – the eagles lost a divisional playoff game on the road after playing with a back up QB all season because the eagles had a porous run defense – stop trying to re-wrote history to shoe horn it into this vision you are trying to make in the world – it is VERY easy to sit around after something happens and go – we could have won – yes we could have – but we didn’t – we could not stop Brees or the New Orleans running attack – get over it – how many teams go from 5-6 to winning the division by going on a 5 game win streak (6 if include 1st rd) – with a back up QB –

your point is as valid as a reporter asking any coach ‘what do we need to do to win today’ and the coach saying ‘score more points then the other team’ it was 27-24, we got stoned on the goal line and then the famous scott young penalty (and remember yes, 13 carries – but our best OL at the time Andrews left with an injury)
the eagles were actually leading at one point 21-13 – this magical – if only we had run more – well hell son – if only we stopped them, if only we didn’t get a penalty, if only the two plays near the goal line werescores instead of westbrook getting tackled – woulda coulda shoulda didn’t – 10-6 divsion champs – playoff win – back up QB – lets ‘blame’ the coach – wow –
