It’s December And College Football Championship Week

December.  If I asked you what came to  mind when I said the word December you might say Christmas, Skiing, Winter , Snow etc. But to the die hard college football faithful December is Championship week ! Kind of like Christmas to some. Throw in the fact that there a few first time championships for certain conferences and it gives us even more to look forward to as the week goes on. With these championships there is also a lot of money at stake for a few schools. BCS berths are on the line which means millions of dollars that filter to the school’s athletic programs. Some games on paper at least look like they will go right down to the wire while others you scratch your head and wonder how a few teams made it to where they are.

It all gets started Thursday Night with a few of the low to no talent conferences facing off. Oh my mistake that is the Eagles-Seahawks. ( A little Philly local humor )  actually not too far off with a BIG East showdown West Virginia taking on South Florida. This Is not a championship game. The Big East still does not play a championship game. There still are 4 teams that could lay claim to the title. The most impressive team I have been talking about for months now. What a job Charlie Strong has done for the Louisville Cardinal. If Cincinnati looses to UConn on Saturday Louisville will be the Big East Champion. Not bad for a team that  was predicted to win only a few games this year. I have been very impressed with Louisville all year.

Friday The MAC Conference will be decided as Northern Illinois takes on Ohio University. Chandler Harnish leads Northern  who is 11th in the country in scoring at 39.6PPG to take on Ex Nebraska Coach Frank Solich’s team that is a 4 point underdog at most Vegas Casinos. Ohio’s defense is 33rd in the country in points against ( 22.0) so do not be shocked to see Ohio pull off the outright upset here. Predicted Score Ohio 34 Northern Illinois 33.

The Pac 12 pits a somewhat strange matchup as Oregon comes into their game with UCLA as a 30 point favorite. Hardly seems like a match that will be decided in the last few minutes. I have watched UCLA play 3 or 4 times this year and they have beat a few decent teams. But they come into the championship with a modest 6-6 record and off a 50-0 Beat down at the hands of Matt Barkley and USC this past Saturday Night.  Expect nothing different here. It’s embarrassing to have UCLA in this spot they get creamed. Final Oregon 55 UCLA 13

Conference USA has one of the most intriguing teams this year Houston playing Southern Miss. How do you not give Case Keenum the Heisman Trophy ? 73.2% completion percentage 43 TD’s only 3INt’s . I know his level of competition isn’t what LSU or Alabama’s is but you can not ignore what this kid has done. He has had one of the nest collegiate seasons in the history of college football. A Houston Win locks up a Sugar Bowl Berth probably against Michigan. Houston comes into the game a hefty 14 point favorite. I think Houston wins but give me the 14. Final Houston 38 Southern Miss 31

The ACC has had a down year. And has there bee a more disappointing then Clemson ? Every year they tease us with a load of talent only to completely tank it mid way through the year. They have been as bad lately as they were good early in the year. They limp in against a Virginia tech team who made a statement blowing out Virginia in their rivalry game this past weekend. Can Clemson put all of that talent together in time to save their season and win an ACC title ?  I think Not V tech 31-21

The Big Ten has a very good year. The addition of Nebraska has really improved the conference. Also the quality of play with additions like Russell Wilson at Wisconsin has brought another dynamic to the three yards and a cloud of dust the Big Ten had become known for. Teams like Michigan, Michigan State arrows are pointing up as the respective programs continue to improve. This is the first year there will be a championship game. Wisconsin takes on Michigan State  Who can forget that hail Mary Game that dashed Wisconsin’s National Title Hopes on October 22nd ? Michigan State pulled out the game 37-31 on a last second 55 yard touchdown pass. Don’t look for a repeat Wisconsin Wins this 37-24

For a long time now the SEC has been known as the best conference in America. Well nothing has changed. In fact you could say the SEC western division is the best conference in America boasting the nations #1 and #2 teams. And until this past weekend the #3 team as well. That was the first time in history a single conference held the number 1-3 rankings in any poll. More impressive like I said these three came from the same division. Unreal. I have said for an entire year LSU is the best team in the nation and the best team of all time. They have not let me down yet and I will continue to ride that horse. LSU takes on Georgia who has turned the ship around after two tough looses to open up the season. Great story but like any great story it ends at some point. This one ends in an LSU 41-14 Thumping.

A special I told you so to the three experts who bet me Arkansas would keep it close. I was 3 points off or I had the score exact. I will donate your payments to an animal charity and save lives. Again LSU is the greatest collegiate football team of ALL TIME. What a wonderful season of the greatest sport in the world. And it aint over yet !!

This weeks 6 pack Lat week 5-1

McCoy scores from the red zone, running the ball. Andy must be pissed.

Uh-duh! Running in the red zone; this really works? Who woulda thunk?

How do you ID a bad coach?

Okay, let’s say it’s all on the players.

Just tell me how one can identify a poorly coached team.

I always thought you looked at:

Wins/Losses
Game Plan
Execution
Field Discipline
Preparedness, etc.

If we look at any of those, we see:

We’re 4-8;

We fail to use the No. 1 running back in the league;

We have receivers running wide open and an inability to score from the red zone that goes back years;

We have key penalties at important times of the game, i.e., the off-sides that lost a game this year;

The players themselves, say they lack focus.

So, it it the players’ job to make sure all of these things occur?

If so, what’s the coach’s job?

Is Seattle a poorly coached team? Miami, Cleveland, Jacksonville?

If so, what makes them poorly coached?

What makes these team any different from us?

Anyone like D-=JAx runnning a deep route and never even looks back to see if the ball is coming his way forcing VY to hold the ball longer and eventually make a bad pass elsewhere… I would bench D-Jax/A Samuel/T Cole for the remainder of the Season for all 3 have contrbuted mightily to this disastrous seaon > People who say this team is talented is on something, I will say this for the umpteenth time, they are not a good Football team, on Offense, on Defense, and Special Teams..though tonight Special Teams did play well and their return game was a little better on kickoffs..

Anyone notice the total failure of this team? I would bench Andy Reid for the rest of his life.

When EVERYTHING that could possibly goes wrong with a team does go wrong (and I’m just guessing here), the Head Coach/GM could have something to do with it.

It’s a total Organizational and Team Failure from the Ownersjip/Front Office to Coach AR and his entire Staff right down to the Players.. Whether is Offense, Defense, Return teams, You name it. It’s bad… A lot of it is Coaching and just as much of it is on the players.. .Tackling and Catching the Ball is not something the Coaches should be teaching at this LEvel of Football ..I have never seen a worse tackling Team in my entire life and not just in Eagles History, but of any team i can remember.. and how many damn passes have been dropped this Season.. HArbor/COoper/D-JAx and on and on…

If the coach shouldn’t be teaching it, should he be choosing players who are already adept?

drummerwinslow
December 2, 2011 1:11 am

The “total organization?”

Didn’t Lurie give Reid a blank check to build a Superbowl contender?

drummerwinslow
December 2, 2011 1:13 am

As for Mr. Roseman, he’s just another Reid yes man, chosen by Reid himself.

I don’t see how anyone can blame the owners. They write checks and then get out of the way.

If they had any football input, by now, they would have directed Reid to run the ball at least 25 times per game.

And you certainly can’t blame every position coach. Is Howard Mudd at fault? How about Bobby April?

OK. Jeff Fisher is Andy Reid’s friend (so I’ve read). There is no way Fisher recommended the putz Vince Young to Reid….no way.

I also find it hard to believe that Reid actually thinks that Young, or Vick for that matter, are competent QBs. He can’t. He’s been around and coached competent and championship players. He HAS TO KNOW that the V and V combo are a joke.

I think Roseman is calling the shots here and making decisons based on statements like, “wow, Vick is the MOST EXCITING guy in the league” and “VY is just a WINNER”.

What a joke this QB situation is.

Should the coach be teaching QB fundamentals? If so, why shouldn’t he be teaching tackling fundamentals, if needed?

If week after week you see poor tackling, what do you do? Do you say, “Oh, they should already know this,” and refuse to teach it?

Everyone in that organization hypes the team. They’re trying to sell tickets. That’s how they eat.

I can’t see Roseman being promoted to GM and having more power than Reid. Besides, they made a billion dollars with Reid. To Lurie and Banner, Reid was God.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles promoted Howie Roseman to general manager, although coach Andy Reid still has final say on personnel decisions as the team’s president of football operations.

More on Roseman – No way he has the power:

Roseman, who sent letters to every NFL team, is aware that he lacks the prototypical background of a personnel evaluator. He hasn’t coached or played in college or the NFL. Instead, he has a bachelor’s degree from Florida and a law degree from Fordham.

No one sucks as much as this Alphonse and Gaston disaster the Birds have at QB.

These two idiots are doing their very best to out duel themselves and prove which one is worse.

It was the coach who scrambled right and threw that pathetic pass on the first play. Coach who threw the lob to the Seattle LB that everyone in the stadium know would be a pick 6 if he let the ball go……

I’ve got to go to sleep.

Drummer….keep defending your two buddies at QB all you want. They’re both moved beyond, what do the kids today say? EPIC FAIL. Keep hoping that one day, with a multiple superbowl winning hall of fame coach on staff that they’ll maybe…juuuuust maybe, become competent.
