Hey Doug Collins, The Ball Belongs In Evan Turner’s Hands

It has been a full two weeks now, since the insertion of Evan Turner in the starting lineup. There been some highs and lows so far. Turner was averaging 14.2 ppg 8.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a starter going into the Knicks game on Wednesday. Overall he is averaging 9 ppg 6 rebounds and 2.6 assist. The one thing that I have noticed during this stretch for him is when he has the ball in his hands he makes things happen. He affects the game more than Jrue and Iggy do when they have the ball.

Even with my “man crush” on Jrue, I have noticed that. That is not a shot a Jrue. Jrue has been playing well the past couple of games. I still believe that Jrue and Turner can coexist.

You saw in the Boston, Knicks and the Jazz games in which they won and how they won with the ball in Turner’s hands. They where getting to the line more and they ran smoother on the offensive end. Turner dictated the pace of the game in every one of those games. He made them an even better transition game by the way he would get out on the break off of a defensive rebound.

The past few games the Sixers have gotten away from using Turner in that point forward spot. It started in the Indiana game. He had 21 points but he was not involved the way he was in the first few games.  I kind of blame Coach Collins for his use in those games. To be honest there is an odd feel about Collins and Turner’s relationship. Turner was visibly pissed when he was taken out of the game against the Bobcats. Then after the Knicks game Daily News beat writer, Bob Cooney, asked Collins why Turner has not had the ball in his hands like he had before. Collins kind of blew him off  with a quick answer saying, “he is not rebounding like he was.” So the only way Turner can be involved in the offense is to rebound the ball? Come on, Doug. How about running a play for him once in a while.

I am really trying my best to understand this whole Turner thing. You can see that Collins is completely baffled as well. He has come out and said it a few times. The one thing Collins has to notice though is when Turner has the ball they are a better team. He has to see that, right? If I am sitting my couch noticing that, Doug has to also. I am tired of seeing Lou pound the ball, as the other 4 guys stand around at the end of games Collins seems to have tough love with Turner more than anyone else. Turner may have a little bit of a maturity issue at times but Doug has to get him more involved in the offense, after all that is his job.

The Sixers are now 2-14 in games decided by 7 points or less. They are actually 13-35 going back to last season. Ouch.  I thimk putting the ball in  the hands of Turner could change that.

Turner had his time in the sun and regressed. Jrue is the better point guard and he did great last night.

Give Teams,Coaches and defenses some time to evaluate and scout, then they make adjustments to take away what players do best.. Just like the NBA caught up to Linsanity of the Knicks, they caught up to Turner in half the time…
At least the Good teams and Coaches do…

Evan can ball please give him a chance. Linsanity was never a collegiate player of the year. Plus him and coach have issues, remember this a young Jordan got this guy fired. NOT COMPARING HIM TO JORDAN, but just saying if collins have a flaw it’s dealing with young ball players that has some swagger to them.

Doug Collins is so frustrating — THAD YOUNG is not a power forward and ELTON BRAND is not a center and that is his go to lineup ——- and since Sam Young’s addition he even has the nerve to play Thad Young at center —- If you won’t use your woods while golfing you will never break par similarly the 76ers won’t win a playoff series with their 6’10(Allen) and 7 footers(Hawes & Vucevic) on the bench ———– Time to replace Doug Collins the team has plateaued with his small ball style — the chicago bulls were nothing with Doug Collins and Charles Oakley and Orlando Woolridge and didn’t start succeeding until Doug was fired for Phil Jackson and Oakley and Woolrich were replaced with Bill Cartwright, Stacey King and Horace Grant

Sixer’s Guards outscored/outplayed bit time tonight 52-29 versus the Spurs,
They can’t beat a team with a winning record, they can’t win on the road and they can’t defend opposing Teams Guards… this Team is going nowhere and are now 7-13 since Feb 1st… I recall some like JJH saying this Team was going to Win 40 + Games … I stated more like the low 30’s and that maybe even pushing it the way they are playing..

Actually Pauly you said the sixers would go 37-29 which is in the upper 30s not lower ones where your now claiming they will end up, all because they loss tonight and havent been playing great ball like they were in the beginning of the year.. I said 40 wins. They are currently 27-22 with 17 games remaining.. I see them going 13-4 and will still get 40wins on the year.. I also said that this team is young and will continue to grow and for those who call themselves true fans and not just bandwagoners, to be patient with them because they still need time to grow as basketball players..Everytime they lose its as if the world came to an end but when they win noone says a word.. No loyalty whatsoever to the team.. Its nauseating and really old.

JH, they will not win 40 games. Just because some of us choose to tell the truth, & not live in La La land of un-realism, doesn’t make us Band-wagoners. When you where going all googly ga ga a month or so ago, we were trying to bring you back to reality. I’ve been telling you since training camp, that this team is a mediocre 500 team & we would never win with this current line-up. We nothing to improve this team from the beginning of last year. Brand & Stinkadala needs to go, we ZERO at the 4 & 5 positions & too many tweener types (Turner, Williams, Thadd, Stinky, Sam Young-BWAHAHAHA, & Lavoy), no pure scorers, nobody that can consistently rebound, or get to the hoop, or line, & we are soft. Meeks shouldn’t even be on an NBA team. I told you when you acting like Turner was the next coming of Jason Kidd, that Turner was a bust, a mope, a soft player that does not hustle when he is inconsistent. But you were pumping out your chest after 3-4 decent games that he had. He did nothing for a season in a half before hand, & nothing since, & since then has been benched for playing like a tard, with his head in his @$$. Stop using the young team card, it is BS. The only contributers (if you call it that), that are on this team, that are young, are a 2nd year Turner, rookies Lavoy Allen & Nic Vucevic. Jrues in his 3rd full season & has regressed. Hawes & Thadd are 5 year vets, Williams is a 7 year vet, Stinkadala is a 8 year vet & Brand is a 13 year vet. So your young team excuse HOLDS ZERO FACT NOR GROUNDS. Just admit that you over-exaggerated what this team has done & is! They are what they are. They played well early, when all of the other vet teams didn’t have their legs & most of our early wins (6-8 games) came at the expense of teams without their best players playing. If they do make the playoffs (which I’m still rooting for), they don’t have a chance against teams, in a series, if they have to play half court offense & defense. These are all facts! Not figments of a band-wagoners imagination!
BTW, let’s not get into the monster move of Sam Young, AGAIN!

After 20-9 Start which seemed like months ago.. The Sixers are 7-13,
they are currently at a 4 Seed only because they are leading the pathetic Atlantic DIvsion and by the next week or so, I expect teh CEltics to overtake them for 1st in the Atlantic Dropping the the Sixers down the 7th Seed below the Pacers and Hawks and that’s right, a 1st Round PLayoff Series versus the Heat and another 4-1 Series and a quick exit..
Sixers need to move Brand, Iggy and obtain 2 Power forwards who can score,post-up, play Defense and Rebond,, Even if 1 was a scorer and the other more of a defender would be good..
The 76ers do not need more 6-4 thru 6-7 Swing guys who are Jump Shooters.. they Have enough of these already…

Jrue at Point and ET at #2 Guard, but Jrue needs to take the ball to the bucket more..

Paulman, they are going to have to trade either Jrue, or Turner in the off-season, also. Both are natural points & neither can score consistently, & both are turn over machines. Can’t survive with this current team of mediocrity. A lot of changes need to happen in the off-season. They have to change the structure of this roster. For them to move forward, they needed to properly rebuild this team 2-3 off-seasons ago. But as usual they failed! This off-season especially when they had the 2 outs. They had Stinkadala traded for Ellis, & the pussies screwed that up, & could of & should of amnestied Brand. But NOOOO!!!

Jrue is pathetic on defense he gets beat everytime and has no fire. I guess we can put to rest “they play the right way” argument. Give me the little superstar ball hog who can get me a championship appearance allday everyday. Enjoy your “play the right way” cant beat a team over 500 with no hope of ever doing anything. This team has no shot for anything in the next 10 years. It is a hopeless situation.

DCar your assesment is off. i like to listen and see what everybody points are but come on! Jrue is not a natural point guard just cause he did it in high school doesn’t make him natural. he played the 2 in college and was in the tourney at the 2 spot he can slide over to SG with ease and he’s a better shooter at this point than turner is and better off the ball. But Evan is your PG that’s where his college player of the yr came from that’s where is draft status came from regardless of what they say he was. put them where they belong and watch them b a force. Collins is the major issue here. he’s not putting ppl in the best position to succeed.

philly, did you just quote Reid!? You had me intrigued & were making sense, until then. You have lost all credibility with the ” he’s not putting ppl in the best position to succeed.” LMFAO!!! In all seriousness, Jrue was drafted as a natural point guard, has regressed in his PG skills, & he is just as inconsistent shooting & TO prone as Turner. IMHO, nobody on this team, is untouchable. They are all soft, can’t shoot, can’t rebound, can’t guard guards, & if they don’t play near perfect DF, they can’t beat anyone. Plain & simple. It’s ashame & sad of the black hole that this organization has been, in the last 25-29 years. Give or take 3, or 4 teams.(Barkley, AI).

They are soft i agree. i wouldn’t say they are untouchable but Evan and Jrue are young and have the best upside of this team. Evan sees the floor better Jrue is better off the ball. They have to be a starting point Collins for sure is playing Favorites and these dudes look confused depending on the game. Collins has the track record of really losing his players. even before i read the article “the wizard of id” i saw exactly what was happening. and after reading it it showed me that i was on the right path

Rumor from Champaign,Ill is that Collins will be resigning from the Sixers after the Season to take the University Of Illinois Job (his Alma Mater) and that will hire his son from Duke to be his Asst HC and groom him to be his succesor after he rebuilds the Program.. A win-win for everyone exept the 76ers…
