Michael Vick’s Plan For Staying Healthy: Training And Prayer

MichaelVick2Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was on 94-WIP today and he tried to explain why he’s been hurt so often during his time with the Birds.

I can’t give you no explanation for that”, Vick told WIP radio in Philly regarding his injury history.  “It’s probably one of the toughest questions you’ve asked me since we’ve been talking.  I don’t know.  I think just to train — train hard and pray to God.  That’s gonna be my motto.  Hopefully I can sustain 16 games.  If I’m out there — go out there and put forth your best effort and see what happens.”

Vick pointed out the astounding number of times he was hit last year, which were sometimes his fault and sometimes the fault of his offensive line.

“We also have to realize, and I think you guys need to take into account that I was hit 170 times last year before I even went down,” Vick said.  “That’s the most I ever been hit before I even got hurt.  So, I kept getting up.  My body was trained and conditioned to go the distance last year, it was just the fact that I got a head injury and that kind of took me out.  That was kind of an out of the blue concussion.  It just happened.”

I think Vick needs to start using more wisdom in the way he plays.  He needs to stop holding the ball so long and learn to throw the ball away.  Chip Kelly thinks he can teach it to him, but Vick isn’t a young quarterback any more.  We’ll see if he can learn at this age.

Kelly has said in the past that every sack is caused by the quarterback because he should get rid of the football in 1.5 seconds.  I can’t wait until they go on the field.  This could be interesting.

Mike Vick is right though.. No one could stay healthy behind that Oline.. I don’t care who you are. It’s not like he broke something or tore an ACL. He got a concussion. I was shocked it took until week 9 to finally happen

Didn’t Foles get injured?

How can that be a draw back for Vick but ignored concerning Foles?

Some may say Vick have a hard time getting through a season without going down but the same can be said for Foles.

Foles went down before he could complete half a season…let alone a full season.

I thought the quick reads and getting the ball out your hand quick translates to an injury free Quarterback.

Maybe some of these experts on GCobb.com can tell us why Foles got a season ending injury.

Was that Foles fault?

It’s not a Foles Discussion. But one broken hand (which he played through!) does not match a style of play that has allowed a 16 game season from a player only once in more than 10- years.

The fact that a 3rd round dunder headed wookie was able to pilot scrubs to more points per game than this FAR OVER RATED starship 7 fantastic skill set Coach killer inspite of a HC and OC that have been overmatched for YEARS is an complete indictment of Mr Vick. A veteran QB should never even have a kid play this close to his performance. If I want to watch a team struggle at least let me think for a year there is hope. Vick is WASHED UP!

Vick lovers should stop comparing him to a 3 round rookie who probably won’t make it to other qb’s that made pro bowls and money, qb’s that had franchises hitch their wagon to… Of the 30 plus year olds I’d say he should be compared to: Palmer, Brady, manning E and P, Brady, Bree’s, Romo. When you look at it that way, he blows… Like 1 or 2 playoff wins… I think romo has that many! Yikes.. Yes Palmer blows too… Same category…

Name me a player that had heart on this gutless squad last year! Cmon songs they are a collective bunch of quitters and even your hero vick blasted them for it.

Why do guys get hurt- Because other guys don’t do their jobs (some of vick’s injuries included) It doesn’t matter because if 7 is under enter come the start of next season I will pick another team to cheer on until he leaves.

Now Reid is gone and we get a chance to see Vick with a coach that can utilize his skill set under a 2 back system, I’m back on board…

our defensive coach sucks ass but maybe we can score enough to cover his sorry ass.

Go away, we don’t need fraud human beings like you on here! If anybody, backs you now, they’re the same!

cigar If Foles is indeed competing for the job and is on the roster after the draft and performs better then Vick and Dixon then yes I think Chip Kelly will be a man of his word and start Foles. That is of course they don’t trade him to KC profootball talk is already saying Reid is sniffing around for a trade.

It’s not open competition… Like saying Foles would be recruited by Oregon 3 years ago… No he wouldn’t… It doesn’t mean that kelly hates Foles or his ability. It means he doesn’t fit

Cut from an Article on SB Nation by Jason B.

First is the old 26-27-60 rule. QBs who score at least 26 on the Wonderlic test, started at least 27 games in college, and completed at least 60 percent of his passes tend to do well at the NFL level. As MTD points out, the formula predicted success for Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub and Matt Ryan. Meanwhile it predicted failure for high picks such as Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, Tim Couch, David Carr, Vince Young and JaMarcus Russell.

Of last year’s class, the QBs that met the requirements were Andrew Luck, Brandon Weeden, Russell Wilson, Nick Foles & Kirk Cousins. RG3 was 2 points shy on the Wonderlic of meeting the rule as well.

I think we’ll see a turnstile of QB’s this year until Kelly can finally get the best guy to run his system… the 2nd and 3rd best will get the backup jobs. Doesn’t shock me that Vick is given a 1-yr contract. He knows what he plans to install isn’t anything remotely like Reid’s system so he’s probably figuring “might as well find out what the guy really has. I can release him (he knows Lurie will fund any of his projects) if he flubs after the season.”

You will see a turnstile of QBs for the next 3 years under a RO system that will expose our QBs to twice the punishemnt of a “regular” offense.

While Eli, Brees, Brady etc will be eating the turf 6/8x a game on sacks and hits after throws, Eagles QBs will hit the ground 2x as much with sacks, hits, hits after running plays, and hits after late option handoffs.

Works great in a 12 game college season with 21 yr old players. Won’t work with 16 game (perhaps 18 soon) + playoff NFL seasons.

Install a RO offense…..expect 5 QBs to play for the birds over the next 3 years.

The whole “KC wants to trade for Foles” thing is weird.

Realtalk, tsjohnson, Birdo….why wouldn;t they want our bestest bestest superstar QB? Reid coached them both….wouldn’t he obviously want VIck?

I mean, he could get Vick for cheaper too.

Interesting,
crossroads ( is Foles ceiling a top ten NFL QB)
this arguably might be Foles highest trade value ( outperformed his 4th round draft status, NFL starting experience in West Coast Offense, weak QB class)
Flip Flop #1 for Foles?
Foles for 3rd rounder # 63?

Lol Foles aint outperform sh*t. LMAO He only won 1 dam game, rode bryce brown coat tails. People seem to forget about the success of Brown. He had more total TDs than Shady in less games.

This proves Andy ran a more balanced attack with Foles. HELL WE EVEN RAN THE BALL ALOT IN THE REDZONE while Foles was the starter. Andy did none of this with Vick. Foles also played the weaker part of the schedule.

To review Marcus:

The Eagles passed the ball MORE when Foles was the QB.

Passed more.

Dallas 34 passes 14 runs (in a roCar 24 pass 22 runs (rookie debut)
Wsh 48 passes 20 runs (in first rookie start)
Car 24 passes 22 runs (this must be the one game you are hung up on and because you are a blind idiot, think what happened here continued)
Dall 35 passes 24 runs
TB 60 passes. 12 rushes
Wsh 53 passes 17 runs

So there you go twit. The eagles passes the ball a HIGHER % of the time with Foles under centre.

People keep saying Vick holding the ball but it not his fault Andy and Marty call all those long 10 minute routes for our recievers to run. Its a recipe for disaster. the problem was Andy’s sh*tty predictable scheme
