Notes From The Philllies’ 2-0 Loss To Miami

ughjrollThe Philadelphia Phillies had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night, falling to the Miami Marlins 2-0. Their record drops to 14-17.

  • Surprise, surprise. Cole Hamels makes another excellent start, gets no run support, takes a loss. Hamels allowed just two runs on four hits over eight innings against the Marlins. The ace allowed a couple of runs to score early, but shut the Marlins down for the rest of the game.
  • Miami starter Jose Fernandez has dominated the Phillies in his two starts against them. In his first start he allowed no runs and two hits over six innings. Tonight he allowed no runs and just one hit over seven.
  • The offense had absolutely nothing to offer tonight.
  • Freddy Galvis, who got the start at third for Michael Young, had the team’s lone hit.
  • Combined, the Philadelphia bats went a measly 1-28 with two walks.
  • Jimmy Rollins went 0-3, and is stuck in a miserable slump right now. He’s got just two hits in his last 22 at-bats.
  • Chase Utley went 0-4 and left three men on base.
  • Ryan Howard went 0-3, striking out all three times.
  • Ben Revere turned in another hitless effort at the plate, prompting Charlie Manuel to pinch hit John Mayberry for him later in the game.
  • Carlos Ruiz is hitting just .111 since his return to the team.

Final Thoughts

Unbelievable.

Its unbelievable how this offense continues to fail to support their best pitchers. Cole Hamels delivered his best start of the season, and instead of a win received his fourth loss. This offense just can’t be counted on. On any given night, they’ll turn in a wretched effort like the one they gave tonight.

This is who they are. Carlos Ruiz and Delmon Young are back now, and they aren’t enough to prevent nights like this from happening.

When this offense is at their worst, man are they bad.

dreadful, just dreadful. The Phillies have been shutout 5 times (the Marlins have only been shutout 4).
I laughed when the national media had us finishing right around .500.
I laughed when the national media had the Sixers not making the playoffs.
I knew the Flyers would stink.

I went to get bagels at the deli this morning for breakfast and this was the debate on the sports radio channel this mornig:
There is only one spot on the current roster that has a viable option in the minor leagues, Second Base. Time to move Chase Utley for an outfield prospect. Everyone knows Chase doesn’t get resigned because of Cesar Hernandez and/or Freddy Galvis.

Time to put Doc on ice. He’s cooked. This $#!t is unacceptable & unwatchable! Put him out of his misery already! Heartbreaking to see how the mighty has fallen. 32 games in, & the season is already on life support. JEESH!
