Notes From The Sixers’ 108-98 Loss To Toronto

sixersraptersThe Philadelphia 76ers lost their fourth straight game on Wednesday night, falling to the Raptors 108-98. Their record drops to 5-8.

  • Michael Carter-Williams made his return to the lineup tonight. The rookie looked a little rusty after going more than a week without playing, and finished just 2-10 from the floor with six turnovers. On the positive side, MCW took seven trips to the free-throw line and still managed six rebounds and six assists.
  • Thaddeus Young missed tonight’s game for personal reasons. Daniel Orton got a start in his place, finishing with six points and six rebounds.
  • Spencer Hawes led the team with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Hawes knocked down three three-point shots, and also had three assists.
  • Evan Turner scored only 13 points on 13 shots, but also added 10 boards.
  • The Sixers’ three-point defense continued to struggle tonight. They’ve allowed 13 or more three-pointers in five of their last seven games.
  • The team had no answer for Toronto shooting guard DeMar DeRozan, who lit the team up for 33 points.

Final Thoughts

Before the game, the Sixers made a pair of roster moves, waiving center Kwame Brown and guard Darius Morris.

Morris appeared in a handful of games for the Sixers, and didn’t make much of an impact.

Many were puzzled by the Kwame Brown signing when the Sixers gave him a two-year deal last off-season. Brown predictably has brought almost nothing to the table, and hadn’t appeared in a single game this year. Good riddance.

not a fan of Thad Young because he is a horrible rebounder but the Sixers missed him tonight. They are so thin on real NBA talent, if they are without one of their top 6 they have no chance to complete( MCW, Anderson, Turner, Young, Hawes, Wroten) –
Toronto like New Orleans was just too big for Evan Turner. His shot was swatted like 5 times on drives.

e0, ET is a fraud, & a bust. Don’t get caught up in his fraudulence. The only reason he’s finally showing some offense, after 4 years, is he has no contract, & is looking to cash in. Trade Thad, Hawes & him now, & tank it! They suck anyways, & have no shot to compete for ZILCH!!!!

Kwame Brown release doesn’t surprise me, maybe that indicated Moultrie is close to returning. The Darius Morris release does. He must of really pissed off HC Brown or Sam Hinkie. Maybe Darius Morris and Thad Young got into trouble? The Sixers signed two 6-5 guards to try and replace Morris . Portland Trailblazer 1st round bust Elliot Williams and North Carolina State rookie Lorenzo Brown( 2nd rounder by Minn pick 52) I remember Brown playing last year in college and he would penetrate but didn’t really shoot outside.

I see the Sixers trading Hawes, ET and possibly Thad. Right now, they all have high value on the market. Maybe even some 1st rounders to a potential playoff team needing a few pieces.. But there will be changes made by the trade deadline

What is Thadd’s Contract Status JH or anyone out there,
How many Years left and at what kind of $$$..
I know ET and Hawes are both up at the end of this Season so they are
relatively easy to Trade

Young is signed through next season with a player option for 15-16. Thad is a tweener who isn’t really big enough or dominant enough to play the 4. He does nothing for me and he makes way too much money.

And though ET can score now when he has the ball in his hands a lot, I don’t think that he can score consistently because he can’t shoot consistently. They are gonna move him or they would have extended him.

Here is Thads deal.
2012-13: $8,289,130.
2013-14: $8,850,000.
2014-15: $9,410,869.
2015-16: $9,971,739 {Player Option}.
2016-17: UFA.

He wont be a UFA until the summer of 2016 and he’d be 28 years old. The organization covet Young more than both Hawes and ET imo because of his hustle and relentless motor on the court, but, at the height and size he’s at playing the PF position, he’s too undersized and seems to have reached his full potential.. He has value on the market though at the age he is so nows the time to trade him. Possible trade could involve the Sixers and the Rockets. The Rockets trading Center and defensive specialist Omer Asik for Thad Young. There contracts are kind of similar, here is Asik’s contract:
2012-13: $5,000,000
2013-14: $5,225,000
2014-15: $14,898,938
2015-16: UFA

Right now Asik is 27 but to add another 7’0 to this team would be great. I see that as a possible deal in the works..

Thanx for the info JH..
Asik is an intriguiging player who is pretty productive when playing

Thadd is a hustler, good teamate and does whatever is asked of him
Unfortunately, he has been thrusted to play PF since being drafted by the 76ers which he simply is not big/tall enough to play with the big boys night in and night out.. He really should have beeb a SF but lacks the “Shooters Touch” or very good “Ball-Handling Skills” to play much outside the lane..
A True Professional though that can help any contending Team in a lot of ways.. I know GmCliff has always been real high on Thadd Young, but I never really saw him more that a 6th/7th Man off the Bench to bring energy, and production in spurts at 18-20 Minutes a Game and not a 30 + Minute a Game Player that the 76ers have needed him to be

Thad Young is a low post scorer only, he is a deceit & adequate offensive low post scorer – unfortunately he is not a good rebounder or defensive basket protector from that PF position, subsequently Thad Young is a below average overall PF.

I was thinking the same thing. How are they the same? Asik is gonna get payed 15 mil next year (which he is not even close to being worth and then he is a FA whereas Thad has an extra year if he wants it. Those deals are not close and I don’t think that Hinke is looking to add cap responsibility for next season especially a huge contract for an average player.

Brown ought to consider a strategy using both Young and Orton at the same time.

I don’t like Orton, he is just too slow to play a 24 second clock game.

Orton is a young guy with a lot of size and girth 6’10 275. He plays well in spurts but commits too may fouls so his minutes are jeopardized. I see him as a good backup down the road to Nerlins Noel. Orton’s a young guy only 23 so he has some time to grow here..
