NFL Thanksgiving PIcks

CalvinJohnson1My Overall Record: 109-67

Packers @ Lions

Green Bay is a mess right now. As long as Aaron Rodgers remains out, their quarterback situation will continue to be a problem. Detroit has taken two rough losses in a row, and they should be able to bounce back at home.

Pick: Detroit 30, Green Bay 20

Oakland @ Dallas

Matt McGloin continues to start, and that means that Dallas will have an easy matchup at home that should allow them to improve to 7-5 and temporarily retake the division lead. On a side note, who in the NFL thought that this would make for compelling Thanksgiving day football? We have two division matchups in the other games.

Pick: Dallas 27, Oakland 13

Pittsburgh @ Baltimore

The winner of this game stays alive in the division race, while the loser is likely finished for the season.

I believe in Pittsburgh more so than Baltimore. The Steelers have shown legitimate improvement on both sides of the ball over the last month, while the Ravens remain in pure mediocrity. Pittsburgh-Baltimore is typically a low-scoring affair, and I think the Steelers complete a sweep of the Ravens.

Pick: Pittsburgh 20, Baltimore 13

Dude I think you will be 0-3.

Matt Flynn in his last meeting with The Lions threw 480 yards and 6 TD passes. Flynn seems to be a good fit with Mike McCarthy system. Had a very good outing last week. I think The Packers show up big in this game

Matt McGloin is his first start threw 3 TD passes and against the leagues stingiest defense he played very well against The Titans. He has been putting the ball on the money in his 2 starts and now faces A Cowboy secondary that gives up the most yards to quarterbacks in the league.

I’ll agree with all 3 selections that Denny predicted. The Packers with Flynn are simply not the same with Rodgers, and with Burleson back, Stafford has another option to throw to after Megatron. Yes I recall when Flynn went off versus the Lions as I told my buddy to sit Jordy Nelson in FF that day, but it was week 17, and it meant nothing for the Lions at the time, who had a brutal defense, The Cowboys will not lose at home on Thanksgiving. I’m sure we are all backing the former PSU Qb, and hope he can upset Dallas. I’ll hold onto the same hope, but Cowboys going to win the game by double digits. The Steelers are playing much better than the Ravens. All the games as of late with these two teams are decided by a field goal. With no running game on the Baltimore end, the Steelers will remove Torry Smith from the game, leaving Jacoby Jones, Dallas Clark and Dickson to lead the way for the Ravens.. Antonio Brown has proved to the Steelers ownership they made a great decision allowing Wallace to leave for Miami. Bell has been a nice RB since his return from the injury. Steelers win this game, and will be happy when the division leading Bengals lose to the Chargers on Sunday.

Should be some Close games
I think the Lions/Packers as a Toss-Up
Flynn who looked lousy with Seattle & Oakland somehow seems to play well wearing the Green & Gold of the Packers
If Lions don’t turn the Ball over (13 Turnovers the last 4 Games)
They Win, but the Packers have had Detroits number
Over the years..

I give the Raiders a chance versus the Ciwboys but must start fast
qB McGloin is not the most athletic QB nor has a big arm, but he’s smart, efficient and gets rid of the ball.. RB Jennings has been on a tear the last month and the Raiders get RB McFadden back who is good for 2-3 big games a year..
Will the Cowboys come out a little flat and over-confident after their last minute Win over the Giants last week, perhaps.. But the Raiders are coming in loose, hungry with nothing to lose.. I see a close game with the Raiders with a chance to win this game..

I like Steelers over the Ravens who have become too 1-Dimensional this Season and seem to have lost confidence in their ability to run the Ball
It will come down to Big-Ben out dueling Flacco
Steelers win a close game as they continue to make a push for the Playoffs

I’m confused why the Packers only have 43 yards against the Lions. Their worst offensive performance in years.

They have the same oline, same WRs, same RBs from a team that was in the top 3 just a couple of weeks ago.

Stevo tells me its a “team” game. He says QB is no more important than anyone else. He said the Eagles did not need to get a QB. Says CB is just as important.

GB has 92% of their offensive ‘team’ out there but can’t move the ball.

I find that really really strange.

And this Dallas/Raider game. Oakland DBs have been dropping like flies, but Romo only has 1 td through 3 quarters??? I don’t get it….Koolbreeze, or maybe TS, or maybe Skayne (can’t tell them apart), along with the national media dismissed the 7 td performance saying Oakland was just terrible…….falling down and all that……

Now they’re down to their 3rd stringers…….

So why only 1 td tonight then?

You’re a moron, so you always fail reading comprehension. The defense gave up 30 points a game the first 4 weeks of the season. It’s very hard to win consistently if you have to beat 30 every week.

The last two victories we’ve won with 27 and 24 points scored. The 24 points scored against Washington wouldn’t have been enough to even win the first Washington game. We scored 30 at home and lost. That 30 points represents the most scored at home this season, yet it was a loss. No one said the qb doesn’t matter. We said winning is a team game. You couldn’t care less about the other parts of the team doing well. You ridiculously claim Foles deserves all the credit.

Hours before the Raiders game you were whining that Kelly’s offense didn’t fit Foles, yet it was the reason Foles did so well. Kelly is another person you give no credit to. It was his offense that flummoxed the Raiders. They frequently lined up incorrectly and blew coverages, leading to easy throws for foles. The Bucs made the same mistakes. But since you don’t understand Kelly’s offense, you think it’s all Foles.

The offense scored points with Vick in the game, but it was unsustainable. It could only continue as long as Vick could scramble for yardage when Jackson was covered.

The Eagles offense plays much better with Foles at quarterback, because Foles makes weapons out of many players. With Michael Vick at quarterback the team was limited to Vick, McCoy, and Jackson.

Yes, the defense is playing well, and the offense is playing the best they have all year. That’s why Vick is sitting.

LOL.

I said if Kelly ran the run-option like with Vick, then that would be bad fit for Foles. But Kelly, smartly, isn’t doing that with Foles, most of his ‘options’ now involve either screens or players coming late behind the LOS for tosses etc.

I mused that running Foles in the more trad read-option (that he was doing more with Vick) would be bad for Foles and would hamper development. Kelly isn’t doing this, so the question is moot.

He’s still running zone read plays with Foles, so you’re wrong again about the offense. Once again, take a look at the Chip Wagon website. They actually happen to be posting about Kelly’s offensive staples this week. You might yet get a clue.

After the Oakland game:

Biglion: Who was covering DJax on that long pass who was responsible for McCoy out of backfield on his td reception? Your a football guy was that good defensive football?

TS: a guy who only looks good against marginal teams who royally fuck up on defense.

Kool: but nothing special. When receivers are running wide open…

Kool: Now in a game where he sat in the pocket untouched all game, where cornerbacks where falling down leaving receivers wide open…the worst game we seen a defense play…suddenly people are ready to annoint Foles as the chosen one!

AKA – Oakland is horrible. Oakland is horrible. Oakland is horrible. That’s the only reason Foles did well.

Just wondering, with all that horribleness, and with injuries mounting on top of that horriblness, why no one else able to throw 7 TDs against them?

Vinnie, what was false about my statements? Foles has played lights out no denying it from me, but you watch the games how many QB’s have had receivers that wide open against the Raiders? That Sunday was by far one of the worst displays of secondary play ever in the NFL. Stop with the bs.

Ohhhh…so that’s now the story. On that one day the Raiders were incredibly bad, but on all other days they’re decent. Got it.

You may, or may not know, but there’s a player open on just about every NFL pass play (at least for a bit).

That you saw wrs open on TV is because the ball was there when they were breaking open, which is in stark contrast to you know who who always had to wait till they were open (and often standing still).

This has nothing to do with Vick, he wasn’t playing that day so we’ll never know will we? Right now Nick Foles is at the top of the list in my opinion for league MVP. But what is your point? Why hasn’t he thrown for 7td’s a game since then? Stop with your bs he threw for 7ts’s against the Raiders because that day their secondary played like the 4 stooges. Dispute that.

No kidding.

A little tongue in cheek joke about “why hasn’t anyone else thrown 7 against the Raiders…why hasn’t Romo tonight?”…aimed at the “Foles did nothing special, it was the pathetic Raider’s D” crowd (they know who they are)…to rile them up a bit….well that question clearly worked.

Benedict Arnolds like Big “Foles is league MVP – but only because the Raider’s are stooges” lion have got their dander up!!

Obviously he hasn’t done it again, because he hasn’t been able to play the Raiders again!!! Clearly the Raiders play D against everyone else in the league, but when facing Foles they decide to be “4 stooges” and lie down. Actually, intercepted memos from NFL headquarters now prove the Faders actually only fielded 10 defenders that game, thus allowing one WR to be wide open on every play, thus making Foles job pretty damn easy actually.

(BTW Bigpretender- does your mouth ever get tired from talking out of both sides so often??)

Not to change gears.. The GB Packers Secondary looked horrible too yesterday versus the Lions .. How is the best Reciever in Football (Calvin Johnson) able to run Slants with no one covering him for 10 yards all game yesterday… Bad Defense’s all around the NFL.. It’s up to Good QB to see blown coverages and then to take advantage of it.. which Foles has done a nice job of lately..

Every Teams Defense is suspect..
The Steelers gave up big plays down the field last evening, but held tough and kept the Ravens out of the End-Zone which kept them in the game
and then the Ravens gave up big plays, open receivers to give the Steelers a chance … It’s the way of today’s NFL.. there are no more “Great Defenses” that just shut Teams down.. It’s more of a lack of execution, poor decision making by a teams QB or turnoves that stop Offense’s in todays NFL and not the opposing Defense’s…
Didn’t Rookie QB Mike Glennon and Tampa Bay put up big points and plays versus the Seahawks in Seattle a couple of weeks back in agame that the Bucs should have actually won..

Again, in today’s NFL, there is a player open on just about every play. The question is does an offense have a competent QB that can find that open guy. And find him for that brief moment when he is open.

The Eagles now have that guy, which is better than when they didn’t.

Twist nothing. Just exposing.

You are the one (well, not one, you’ve got a lot of help) who post constantly diminishing what Foles has done.

The Eagles’ offense was bumbling through 2.5 games….from KC, to Denver, to 1st half of Giants. Accomplishing nothing.

Then one change is made (forced) and a new QB comes in.

Team goes 5-1 when this new QB comes in. Redzone production explodes. Sacks drop. Useless WRs instantly become competent. Up-tempo pace suddenly becomes an every game staple.

But according to you clowns, this has nothing to do with the QB!!!!

Its because of the oline, the coaching, the wrs, and most especially the ‘high school stooge” defenses the kid got to play.

The QB doesn’t have ‘it’. They say they hope he does, but then diminish every one of his good games every time he plays well.

Charlatans.

So pissy.

You constantly try to hammer home the cop out juvenile argument that I slagged Vick because of ‘hate’. Partially true. I hated watching Vick as a QB. I hate that style of QBing. It never wins. I never wanted him to be the QB of the Eagles because I hate watching QBs run around like chickens with their heads cut off getting hammered into the turf. I hate record setting fumblers.

I KNEW the Eagles were never going anywhere with that loser QB because there was 10 years of evidence that he’s a loser.

The Birds wasted 3 years with that guy. Too bad. Thank goodness its done.

Now I can get on rooting for a kid that seems to have the potential to lead this team into the future.

But unlike you, I’m not going to start dropping “high school stooges” lines to diminish his accomplishments.

You seem to want to diminish Foles at every opportunity. You say he threw 7 tds because he played high school stooges. After you diminish his accomplishments you then announce you’re rooting for him. Nice double-talk. Hollow.

Why you do that is your business…I’m not going to announce that your dislike of Foles is due to “hate” or whatever because I have no idea what kind of person you are (though you clearly seem believe you have the incredible ability to ‘know’ who I and everyone else on here are because you read their internet posts – fucking Kreskin in our very midst. You rip out this skill at cocktail parties, or do you only use it in the service of ‘good’??)

But while I’m not going to speculate why you like to diminish and make fun of Foles’ accomplishments (“why hasn’t he done it again??”) its there for everyone to see BigCharlatan.

Now its a joke to dissect every pass play when you did exactly that after the Raiders game. “players falling down. blown coverages, high school,4 stooges”

We get it. Its ok to dissect Foles performances, but not ok to dissect anyone elses. We get your position.

BTW – If the Redskins D played ‘better’ the second time around…..

Why was it 7 nothing after 1 Q and 17 nothing at the half? Foles seemed to be shredding that ‘better’ D pretty good.

Week 1….facing a worse D (your position) it was 7-0 Washington after the first Quarter (their D having scored if you remember) and only 12-7 Eagles at the half….Your hero seemed to have a bit of a problem with that ‘worse’ D handing them 7 points with a patented ‘doink’

My ‘man crush’ may have not thrown any tds, but he wasn’t handing the other team any points either! Foles performance against the Redskins the 2nd time was better than Vck the first time….and against a ‘better’ D.

But you don’t see that. You crack jokes about it.

And as for Observation. You know what I observed that Sunday? I Observed the greatest game I’ve ever seen an Eagle QB play. I have been waiting to observe a game like that for a very long time.

I have observed other team’s QBs have games like that. Games where they can do no wrong. Where the D has no answer. Where they complete 70% chew up yards and score TDs.

And I observed an Eagles’s QB do just that. Tear an NFL D to shreds. ‘Man Crush’??? Absolutely.

But not for you Bigdiminish. You didn’t observe the greatest reg season QBing performance in Eagles history.

You observed a ‘high school’ defense that employed ‘4 stooges’. And you saw a guy who was just lucky to take advantage of that. You can’t possibly fathom, much less accept, that this was an incredible QBing performance. One we’re probably never going to see again.

Instead of being excited, joyous, or getting you’re own ‘man crush’ on over what you observed….you diminished. You refused to accept.

I read the things that people on this site post, and I seriously doubt their team allegiance. They are here to support certain players, not the team.

Comments like this:

>>>> “Who cares if Foles’s uniform is enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame, lots of guys that nobody knows have their uniform in the Hall of Fame”.

>>> “Player of the week means nothing”

>>> “Player of the month means nothing”

Minimizing or begrudgingly acknowledging a players accomplishments is an indication that those people are here to support certain Eagles players and not other Eagles players. They are not Eagles “team” fans.
