Chip Kelly Came Out Fighting Yesterday And So Did HIs Football Team

ChipKelly1Last night the Eagles played with same attitude of their head coach, Chip Kelly.  The first year Eagles head coach let it be known early in the week that he didn’t care who won the Cowboys-Redskins game because he’s was going to play his starters regardless.  He was asked after the game, why he didn’t think about sitting down his starters after Dallas beat Washington.

“Very simple – we’re from Philadelphia and we fight”, Kelly said after the game. “That’s it.”

The fast-talking game planner came out with a fighting attitude yesterday and so did his football team.

He put in an attacking game plan and he called plays with a “go for the jugular” attitude.  The Birds offense was all over the Bears defense before they  knew what hit them.  Everything was working for the Birds last night.

The offensive line was blocking the way Kelly told he wanted when he got here.  He said they should be like “bouncers throwing drunken bums out of the bars”.  Last night the bouncers were getting the job done big time.  I saw quite a few run plays where Jason Kelce and Evan Mathis got one of the tackles going backwards, then one of them came off the double team to pick up the linebacker and whoosh,  LeSean McCoy was running by them for big yardage.

McCoy was at his best last night.  He was breaking the ankles of tacklers when they approached him.  It took at least two or three tacklers to bring McCoy down.

Quarterback Nick Foles was operating with the precision of an elite quarterback, which is proving that he is and that he belongs amongst the better quarterbacks in the league.  The first touchdown throw by Foles was a thing of beauty because he rolled, stalled and waited until the last split second before hitting Riley Cooper in the back of the end zone.

Kelly made a mistake against the Vikings by kicking all of those squib kickoffs and failing to trust his kickoff team to compete against rookie Cordorelle Patterson.  This week he kicked off to the all-time kick returner Devin Hester and the kickoff went down there and forced a turnover.  Cornerback Bradley Fletcher pulled the ball out and cornerback Cary Williams recovered it.

Chip is doing a great job with the design of his red zone packages.  I loved the play where tight end Brent Celek started on a crossing route, then he faked like he was going to go back to the other side.  Cooper then got in the pass of the defender and Celek changed direction and continued on his crossing route and the defender ran into Cooper.

It was a great design as Celek came out of the pack wide open and caught a ten yard touchdown pass from Foles.

They never took their foot off the pedal for the rest of the game.  Chris Polk and Bryce Brown took turns running through what was a pathetic Bears run defense.  That was one of the softest run defenses I’ve ever seen.  Kelly and his football team took the heart out of the Bears.

They beat up and they beat down Chicago with a physical game plan.

I was wrong about Chip. Overall, I did not like hiring of him. I wanted a defensive minded coach like Ray Horton with a really good offensive coordinator. But nine wins with a limited defense, after losing Maclin, terrible special teams based on the past couple of seasons, and with a QB who barely had a handful of starts playing like an MVP, is beyond my expectations. I think he deserves to be coach of the year.
No way do the Eagles come out and play on all cylinders the way they did last night, with a pretty much meaningless game on the minds of the players, with Andy Reid still here.
No way does this Eagles team have 9 wins right now with Reid. If we lose sunday it will be depressing as hell but at least the future looks bright going forward.

Andy Reid is gonna win the coach of the year award. That team had 2 wins last year. Not saying that Kelly doesn’t deserve it or a guy like Bruce Arians, but I still think that Big Red takes it.

By you its been crowned a success, that’s you and a small number of other fans…There were some here that felt the Eagles would make the playoffs before the first game was played…Some that believed in this team from the very start! Your expectations for this team is low, playoffs has always been an expectation, no matter what your opinion is…Kelly expected wins from the start!

Fair point. I felt it was a rebuild. And I’m happy the coach ,QB and DC are for real. I thought 8-8 would be a good year a playoff spot is icing!0

Anyone that thought a 4-12 team would make the playoffs the following year was clearly smoking something.

I love my Eagles, but things like that simply can’t be predicted. I still cant’ seem to put it together. Is it the coaching? Is it the players? is it both? HOW did they develop so fast?

No normal person thought it would take 1 season to get 9 wins.

I can’t remember back to the beginning of the season, but I don’t remember a lot of people expecting playoffs after a 4-12 finish last year, and a whole new defensive system. Real, if you did then you are smarter than me, but I thought that they would win 7-8 games this season and that would actually be a success considering the nightmare of last season. My evaluation of the team before the season doesn’t have anything to do with not believing in the team and everything to do with how many unknowns that they had. Did they have potential sure, but I didn’t know that it would be realized this season. Thought it would take a couple of years. No way to predict that the rest of the division would be so awful either.

nothing to do with who’s smarter Bugs..It don’t matter to me about being right or wrong…that’s just the type of fan I am…I’m optimistic, even last season I was optimistic, hoping and believing the Eagles would turn it around. I truly didn’t believe that NFC East teams were better than the Eagles.

Kelly no doubt deserves a lot of praise, but like any coach who is having success, it is largely the play of the qb that makes a coach
And without a qb like foles where would this eagles coach be, the league is replete with examples, elway made shanahan a two time super bowl champion, since then he has struggled

No doubt Kelly is a great coach, innovator, leader, but without a qb to execute his gameplan, well it’s a far different story

Some thought the eagles would make the playoffs because all of a sudden mike Vick would be injury free and play beyond what hus previous 10+ record said he was, an inconsistent, at times brilliant, but mostly average, to below average

You guys were going on blind faith that Vick would be something he never was

This season would be lost without the play of the qb

Agree. Those people should listen to what Chip had to say today at the press conference…to summarize he basically said one of the major turnarounds for the season was because of Nick Foles. He said there was inconsistency at the position early in the year but Foles has played lights out, brought consistency, and it has benefited the entire team to help them play better.

Basically the words out of the coach’s mouth today is basically what most of us having been saying, yet there are still people (stupid and racist) that thinks the only change has been the defense. Well Chip would think those people are retarded too.

Kelly said the same thing when asked why his team and the offense was struggling st 3-5. He said you can’t win with inconsistent play at qb, lurie then issued his challenge and Foles responded

Big Red should NOT win coach of the year. Are u you kidding me? 2-4 last 6 games and had the easiest damn schedule in NFL history. Out of there 11 wins didn’t like 8 come from back up qbs? Not to mention he actually went to a team with major talent on defense and offense. We didn’t know what was gonna happen with Chip and this team, especially with that Reid did to us and how bad we were last season.

Chip Kelly deserves Coach of the Year

Romo OUT rest of the season ( back)

Romo out. Truthfully I would rather face Romo late in the season.

Kyle Orton……just like when we faced the Vikings without AP and playing Matt Castle. Let’s hope that they learned their lesson and will play solid and tough defense the same way that we did last night.

Cowboys Owners Jerry Jones reports that HC Jason Garrett will be Activated to the Cowboys Roster, Suit up and Play QB versus the Eagles..
Jones stated to a couple of Stadium Workers, “This damn Garrett Kid think’s he so damn smart coming from Princeton and all, Let him actually execute the play calls himself against Philly and see how good his Play Calling really is and besides, I am paying him all this $$ and it’s time he earns some of it..”

Let’s not minimize the seasons good cheer that last night bounce back win gives this team ,the momentum and playing downhill suits this bunch.i was duly impressed with foles accuracy and calm demeanor …how does Andy win coach of the year as a wildcard team? I’d prefer focus on Ron Rivera and the much maligned McDermott (Andy jettisoned him as I recall)…chip Kelly’s sports science has been highly effective ,guys get fresh legs ,it’s an immeasurable advantage…. With foles we stand on the threshold of being back in the NFC dialogue ,and as a 3 seed an outside shot at hosting an NFC championship game ,with the trip down the turnpike as the grand prize …just think a year ago we were a train wreck on the side of the road playing out a wide nine fiasco of a season..special shout out goes to Trent cole ….3 sacks and disruptive force all night long…foles has made everyone believe again ..the defense when healthy causes havoc …and coach said it best …were philly …were fighters …yo Adrian In Dallas …we did it….

All of this celebration…we still have to beat the hated Cowboys! I think Orton might be better than Romo in this situation…I was counting on Romo for a key interception if the game is a tight one. This season is not a success unless we make the playoffs…and we have to go to Dallas and win. If we dont beat the Cowboys…who cares about Foles records…this is the game…its crunch time…win or go home…this is the game that we desperately need!

Am I wrong to want the Eagles, the media and the fans to just shut up about next weeks Dallas game? There is a lot of talk from the players about this time is gonna be different, a lot of talk about we got a easy win vs Dallas with no Romo. We better be very careful about guaranteeing shit. This may unite Dallas for just 1 week. I don’t like the attitude of the fans and players one bit. We act like this game will be a layup. Eagles better be very careful.

If Matt Cassel, Greg Jennings and a 3rd string RB can come out and light up the Eagles, Romo/Orton, Murray and Bryant can definitely do the same. I hope the Eagles don’t think its beyond them to throw up another bad defensive game. They better be very careful.

I agree Dag but this is a confident bunch, if the offense doesn’t turn it over then they should put some serious points on the board. The key will be not letting Dallas control the ball and scoring TD’s after long drives. Don’t sit back and cover expecting Orton to make mistakes come after that ass early and often.
