The Team Stuck To Chip Kelly’s Plan When They Were 3-5

ChipKelly5The Eagles aren’t where they’re at by accident.  Chip Kelly came in with a plan and  there were numerous items in his plan that didn’t look attractive to Eagles players.

Kelly’s plan included not getting Tuesdays off like they did under Andy Reid.  There would be loud music being blasted everyday at practice.  There would be constant movement during practice and every player had to get in the best shape of their lives. It included trying to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night.  Getting two-hour deep-muscle tissue massages two or three times a week.  Eating only healthy foods and avoiding fattening foods.

One great aspect of Kelly’s way of coaching is that he explains to the players, why he wants things done a certain way.  He doesn’t just tell them to do this or do that, he tells them why.  That’s Kelly most important “new school” way of doing things, but he’s a throwback football coach in a lot of way.

He and his football team stayed committed to executing the plan even when it looked like the plan wasn’t working.  It was a crossroads in the season.

“There’s times when you are 3‑5 and you can start to question the plan and these guys didn’t question the plan”, Kelly said yesterday at his Monday news conference. ” You know, I think when we made mistakes, we all made mistakes but we owned our mistakes.  And I think when you own up to your mistakes, then you can correct them. But if you never make them and you constantly make excuses, then you’re never going to fix it.”

Even though everybody emphasizes Kelly’s new ideas, his system is based on good old-fashioned military concepts.  NO EXCUSES!!!!  You do your job and there are no acceptable excuses for not doing your job.

I remember a Special teams coach we had with the Eagles by the name of Frank Ganz.  He was a former U.S. Naval officer and he used to walk around the locker room before games, grab your hand in a firm handshake and ask you one question.

“Is the man right ,” Ganz would ask.   That meant are you ready to play.  Are you prepared mentally?  Do you know all of your assignments and the tendencies of the opponent?  Are you prepared  physically to give everything you have?  It’s concept that Coach Ganz brought to us from the military.

Kelly knows how vitally important it that his players are “honest with the guy in the mirror”.  He knows that winning in the NFL requires each coach and player to be brutally honest about their performances.  The season consists of only 16 games, so you have to improve by making the proper adjustments after each game.

The former Oregon head coach uses the Tuesday practices to go over all the mistakes that were made during the game.  Kelly has a practice where he takes the time to go over every mistake thoroughly on the field, so that each player knows clearly where they made a mistake.  Notice that Kelly puts himself and his coaching staff in the group of people who need to learn from their mistakes.

Playing for the guy next to you, no room for excuses and being honest with yourself have been drilled into this football team by Kelly and his coaching staff.

You hear those military concepts all through the Nova Care Complex.  You hear them from Kelly and the players when they talk about “playing for the guy next to you”.  Nick Foles is always talking about not letting down his teammates and playing for his teammates.  If you know anything about military service, you know how much that is preached.

Andy Reid used to hide this part of his coaching from the public, but Kelly doesn’t try to hide it as much.  If you ask him about a player having a poor performance he will say the guy played poorly without any hesitancy.

“I think these guys owned up to it and did that, and I think each week, I saw us improve because of that”, Kelly continued. “I think because of their mentality and that they stuck together as a group and knew that the only group that was going to get us out of that situation was them, and when you start pointing fingers and doing those other things, it makes it extremely difficult but they never did that.”

Kelly has pushed his this team to grow up quickly and be ready for any and all challenges.  That’s why they found a way to win in Dallas, despite not playing their best football on either side of the ball.

A great Job by Kelly and his Staff in turning around this Eagles Team and Franchise for not only 2013 but for a very bright future ahead as their Core of Players and Playmakers are still Young and haven;t hit their Primes yet

I want to single out 3-4 Veteran Players who I was wrong about and was hard on back in the Summer Time and who I just didn’t think they would fit into Kelly’s Schemes, not only did these players play well on the field, but they also provided great leadership, stability and a positive work-ethic to buy into Kelly’s System which is not always easy to do for Veteran PLayers and especially with an unproven Coach from the College Ranks

1) OLB/DE Trent Cole – Probably had the most difficult transition moving from a 4-3 DE to a stand-up 3-4 with being the primary Pass-Rusher in Passing Situations
2) LB Demeco Ryans – As the Signal-Caller in a new 3-4 Scheme, he had a big challenge as well as not only playing alongside another ILB (Kendricks) but by getting the calls and coverages out to his Teammates, quickly and with confidence…
3) OL Todd Herremans – after a slow start the first month of the Season, has rebounded well and has played some good Football over the 2nd half of the season and has also helped with RT Lane Johnson’s development and confidence as well…
4) WR Jason Avant – With the up-Tempo Pace and more speed out on the field,
Avant could have easily sulked about a cut in his playing time, but that’s not Avant’s personality, He’s a real mentor to the young WR’s and Players onthe Team and no, he will not run away from anyone or make big plays down the field, but what he does do is get you first downs, make the difficult catches in the middle of the field, blocks extremely well down the field for the RB’s and is overall, just a high-quality Player in the Lockerroom who someday would make an excellent WR’s Coach in my opinion…

5) TE Brett Celek – Another Veteran who I thought would struggle with Kelly’s Scheme, required to block more , a reduction in Playing Time with additions of TE’s Ertz/Casey, but also has had a great 2nd half of the Season and again is a great mentor to the younger Players on this Team..
A great work ethic, willing to do the little things and dirty word that comes along with playing TE and is probably in the best conditioning/shape of his Career, he looks a little quicker, is blocking better and really seems to enjoy playing in this Offense..

These 5 Players, I listed, I believe are the real Un-Sung Hero’s of this 2013 Eagle Season and have supported and lead the Transition from the AR Years of past to the Coach Kelly Era and helped keep this Young Team, New and Inexperienced NFL Coach’s, New Schemes with many New Players all thrown into the Mix of this Season.. The Eagles will have some difficult Decisions to make this Off-Season on some of these 5 Players as most of them are highly Paid Veterans in Terms of their Salary-Cap Management, Draft Strategy and Overall Roster Management… This has been a Great Season, has definitely exceeded this Fans expecatations and the key to this Off-Season is to build upon the success’s of 2013.. Add a few Players, conitue to build Depth across the OL & DL, Address the Secondary and add to the WR Corp for depth (Definitely Re-Sign Cooper, and maybe Re-sign Maclin or use a Higher Draft Pick to Select one, but they can’t do all 3)

But back to the here and now, A great Opportunity Sat evening to Beat the Saints at the Linc and to contine the Season for a deep Playoff Win..
The Cowboys Win was great, even though they did not play very well for much of the game and were fortunate to come away with a W when not playing their Best.. Time to Practice, Focus and Develop a Strong Game Plan on both sides of the Ball against the talented and motivated Saints
Should be another great game..

The Front Office (Lurie/Roseman/Gamble) did a good Job,
But most of the Credit goes to the Coaching Staff and to the Veteran
Players on the Roster who bought into Kelly’s a Program
And went to work with a healthy Team First attitude..you have to remember that many holdover Veterans had a lot to prove
IF they wanted to remain Eagles and then some the free-agents Veterans that they brought in were getting a chance to be starters again in the NFL and took advantage of it (Fletcher,C Williams,Chung)
The entire Franchise from Top to Bottom have exceeded my expectations and I am happy for it..

Again HAC , you are lumping me in with
Some of the other regular Posters
I called for the Eagles to sign Barwin,Fletcher
& Kenny Phillips at Safety , which didn’t work out due to his knee
Problems..and even DT Soapaga who I thought had another year or 2 in the tank but did not like adding Chung and stated so
I did not like the resigning of Vick but understand why Coach Kelky wanted to have an experienced QB in his first Season to employ his Season.. I also liked the 1st Pick in OT Lane Johnson
Who I also called, was surprised with Ertz & Loagan and did not like the Barkley pick in the 4th. So I was not as critical
With this Front Office last Off-Season as years in the past
And nowhere near as critical as other regular Posters
(GMCliff/DCar to mention a couple)

I was not in support of signing Asmo
And was steadfast of that opinion and thought he would be a bad fit playing in the more physical NFC East and stated so many times
Leading up to his signing.. Once they did sign him,
I hoped for the best, but expected and stated that he would not work out well.. This I was very consistent about and never thought highly of his ability or reputation as a Top CB
I wanted Carlos Rogers or even Richard Marshall
During that Free-Agency .. Check your History HAC

I never wanted or liked Asmo, now once they went ahead and did so, I supported him for he was an Eagle already at that point
You can always go back and take a snippet or any of my posts from time to time and find descrepancies or differences

If your so interested what I stated 2-3 Years ago
Then check the record HAC.. I was one of the very few on
Here who stated no interested in Asmo and even stated that it would be bad for Team Morale as Assante Samuel was the leader of the Secondary at that time, and I was no Samuel fan either,
But that bringing in high-priced Asmo would be a big mistake and that the $$$ to sign him would be better utilized for a Safety & LB
Your beating a dead-Horse here HAC
I was not in Favor of Asmo, now onced he signed, I supported him for that’s what a Fan does, is to support their Team ..
I’ve been wishy-washy on some things over the years & countless post’s as we all have been on occasion’s
But pursuing & signing Asmo was not one of them..
Go ask you buddies if your you want to know what I thought and posted nany times about him… (Cliff,Jake,DCar,Regal, hell even Jon Hart would probably remember my anti-stance on signing Asmo during the run up to Free-Agency in 2010)
And the bigger issue is, who even cares in 2014..
Happy New Year to You..

Paulman I give you a lot of credit for that post. I agree with your team needs but I would love to see what Foles could do with a true slot receiver (in the welker mold, not like they fall off trees) or a big receiver with the ability and courage to run slants and seems. I like the thought of a big quarterback looking down hill. I think that would take offense and Foles to another level. That’s also a quick way to get guys out of the box or keep them from creeping up to stop the run. Defensively I would just like to see us find a dominating pass rusher and a play making safety. I think our corners have really played well when you take into consideration that we don’t get pressure on a consistent basis. Anyway it sure is nice not getting kicked in the nuts every week, and for that I am grateful. GO BIRDS

G every time I see Kelly and witness his team’s success I smile. He came in with his own way of doing things. His own ideas and basically humbled a league/institution that needed to be knocked down a few notches. I still believe he’s doing more with very little. Outside of Shady, Djax, and a Foles who just keeps getting better and better, this team is hardly stocked full of talent.

I tend to disagree Brewski
Look at the other NFL jobs that Chip Kelly Interviewed with
(Bills,Browns,TB Bucs a year earlier) and other Teams that were in the Market for a HC last Years (Chargers,Jags, etc, etc) none of these Teams had as much young, talented & especially speed at the Skills Positions that the Eagles had which his System requires..
Then think of the Eagles OL, which is one of the most Athletic in the NFL, and it was pretty much of a no-brainer from Kelly’s Perspective which Job could bring him his quickest success as far as a core team to build around with…
This Years Best NFL Job is probably whoever takes the Lions Job where they have a lot of Core Talent to build with..

I agree that Maclin would do well in this Eagle System
But there is little chance that Eagles have D-Jax-Avant (both Under Contract for a combined $17.5 Million in 2014) and then Re-sign Cooper & Maclin.. The only way Eagles can re-sign both Cooper and Maclin is that Avant and his $4.5 MIllion Salary will need to come off the Books for 2014..

Maclin can’t stay healthy, he can not be depended upon. Resign Cooper, then try to resign Maclin to a 1 year deal if he’s willing to take it. However, I don’t think he will come back at full strength which may hinder his ability to play the way he normally would. If Jaelen Strong or Sammie Coates enters the draft, the Eagles should grab one of them!

You’d have to PROVE/SHOW me where these other teams were worst than the eagles. The great Bill Parcells says: YOU ARE WHAT YOUR RECORD SAYS YOU ARE. As simple as that. With the exception of Jacksonville, everyone of the teams you mentioned were better than the eagles last year. The key difference this year was a coach who knew what the hell he was doing and is getting max effort from a LEGITIMATE 4-12 team last year. The oline is benefiting from superior conditioning(Totally Chip) and position coach who has a clue(Kelly). The new coach has the rest of the line playing to the level of its only true star, Peters.
I strongly advise not going player for player in regards to talent with the other teams. You may come off as a homer. Less we not forget what most of you predicted as a rebuilding season.
Lastly, whether you can understand this or not, coaching the Eagles by most unbiased assessments would be clearly the most prestiges job out of all the teams mentioned. One of the largest cities in the nation population and media market wise; one the wealthiest franchises football or not. It ain’t even close.

I think a HUGE part of their success is the fact that they are in terrific shape. I think being in tip top shape allows mediocre guys to play above their heads. If there is one thing that the rest of the league should learn from Chip’s system, it’s the fact that conditioning plays a big role in performance. It also appears that we suffer from fewer routine injuries that sideline a lot of players around the league, at least for this year.

Foles and Shady are both having career years for ANY player at their positions. They should and have received the due credit. But make no mistake, Chip’s hire was a magnificent coup by our ownership. He was the most sort after for a reason and we are benefiting big time. The old guard nfl types were (and many on this site) were ready to run Chip back to college. They ridiculed him with the “COLLEGE” conditioning; no huddle; music; diet; offensive philosophy; etc. Cause we all know how often 4-12 teams get turned around by 1st yr coaches (ESPECIALLY NO NFL EXPERIENCE COACHES)….LOL

Paul….I agree with a lot of what you said. And I have to fall on my sword for things that I said or thought about this team as well. As for the guys you mentioned, I think Celek and Ryans understand the market and will take the cut. Kelly will certainly want them both here for the near future so the team will be as fair as they can. Herremans has picked it up. But I still believe that Lane Johnson will be a PB player in next year or two which makes Herremans the weak link in a formidable line. He probably needs to be let go. That will depend on training camp and the draft. If they draft an OG in the 2nd rd and he comes along quickly or someone like Barbre outplays him? I think he is more likely a last cut guy than someone they just wave in the offseason. Trent Cole does a lot of things well, but he is getting too old to think he can ever get you 10+ sacks again. But as I have said many times, Graham does not appear that he can be a good OLB and there is little in draft or FA so they probably stick with Cole for now unless something unexpected happens. I think Cooper and Avant are very similar in skill set and attitude. But Cooper has more size and speed so Avant probably goes because that unit needs an upgrade to win a championship. And as I have also said, I want no more to do with Maclin. He’s a borderline bust and now he is an injured bust. Let him find greener pastures elsewhere. If he catches 90 passes and scores 15 TDs in NE next year then good for him.
You probably agree that we need to avoid the trap we fell into in 2002 after our first NFCC under Reid when we believed that “the system” and player development would make us better and were not aggressive in FA. We need Jarius Byrd and a high pick at CB. The secondary has to be better since the pass rush will probably not improve much. And we need another playmaker. Whether that is another WR/TE that can give you 60-70/8-10 or an outstanding return man. We need a litle more fire power. Ertz might develop into that guy but I think a James Jones would be a nice addition to this offense and I think we can aford to keep our core and get Byrd and still have enough for another FA. This is not the time to “manage the cap.” The last two times we did that we made our moves too late (’04 when the core was aging/ ’11 when we didn’t have a stable core to incorporate FAs). The time is now for this team. Let’s hope they don’t play wait and see again.

I know I have been on the Byrd soap box for months, but this guy is legit. This is not like getting burned on a Dashon Goldson who is the product of a system. This guy can just flat out play and does so every week or a team that eternally sucks. He is THE guy we need in FA and we have to go hard. He is worth 5/50.

I also apologize for adamantly hating the Chip Kelly hire. I wanted old school defensive Gus Bradley and was tired of the cerebral approach to football. I think one of the “Genius” of Chip Kelly, which I was not that sure about
is that he’s a “Collaborative Leader” as a HC and takes input from his Staff..
He has Hired hardworking Coach’s and has a a Staff og Experienced Coach’s from both the NFL (Shurmur & Davis) and blended it with College Coach’s (Southland, Lyght, Jerry A) but most importantly, he has allowed his Staff, to do their Jobs with the clear mission statement of being bigger, better conditioning, better fundamentally and a Team Scheme which has worked brilliantly thus far..

I envisioned Kelly as more of a control freak and attempt to dabble and tinkler with all aspects of the Team which can overwhelm any new HC
and I was clearly wrong about and his Coaching/Management style..
He’s done a great job and up for Coach of the Year along with Mike McCoy of the Chargers, Ron Rivera of the Panthers & Bruce Arians of the Cardinals in my Opinion who have all done excellent Jobs in 2013 with their Teams..

Staying the coarse is one of the most important aspect of creating a team It’s something andy Ried was good at early in his career here but failed in his last 3 years pressing the panic button in his efforts to stick around. The veterans have stepped up big time as well as the young players. This team has a bunch of guys at the right time of their career and the ability to continue to build.

I also am excited of the type of player we have, most are highly competitive with talent. Shady, Desean, Cooper, Celek, Ertz, are all fiery competitors even across the offensive front guys just get after it. Foles has become the perfect personality for this team this year bc he keeps those guys into it. Back ups like Polk are starting to emerge making the team that much more difficult to stop. Seems like everybody wants to add that block to help win. On D Cedrick Thorton, Cox have been forces and Logan is a fighter and you can tell just has the type of attitude you want. Cole has been a monster against the run and starting to become a better pass rusher out of the 3-4. I was down on him the most coming into this year but Billy Davis has kept him out of bad situations. Barwin is the steady presence while Kedricks makes plays and ryans sets the table. The secondary while they struggle at times have stepped up huge. Carry Williams and Fletcher both cover good enough and are outstanding tacklers. if you catch a ball on them they will make you do it again and again and again instead of compounding the problem by not tackling. Nate allen seems to be finally back to covering the way he had the potential to coming out of college. he still struggles coming up but again davis is not asking him to do that much. Chung/Wolf can be better Chung lacks in ability he makes up for with effort and Wolf has both but is just inexperienced. I even like the Brad Smith addition to special teams. future is bright it would be nice to keep this team together and just add to it. Kelly looks like he is building a culture where having a guy for another year would be better than acquiring a new guy that may perceived to be better on the open market. It will also be fun to see how many guys want to come play here.

Paulman ..always appreciative of your insights …I am extremely pleased with a 10-6 record, defeating jerry groans and moans in his big house was icing on the NFC east cake…we are establishing a culture and a locker room ,that guys are happy to come to work …and results are the end game ,as we ready to play New Orleans ,I’m very aware that a win will not be easy …but a win by this group will embolden them and going to meet Carolina wil be yet another step on the growth curve. Cam Newton vs Nick Foles will showcase two young aspiring qbs ….San Fran or Green Bay can go into Seattle and pull off an upset road win …with it being New Years and resolutions ..why not an NFC championship game at the Linc …a trip down the turnpike ,and a Super Bowl appearance …it’s ok to dream …especially with this bunch who have made the Delaware valley ,happy valley ……Rocky vs apollo creed …Peyton manning …cut me mick!

Thanks Desert and Happy New Years to a You
and all the Posters here on GCobb..
NuGreembul makes an excellent point
About keeping the Core together an adding a
Safety, a CB, another OLB and DL Depth
On Offense, add another WR and OL Depth thru the Draft,
No need to add an entire Secondary or 2 WR’s, etc,etc
This Defense has played pretty well the last 10 Games of the Season and to bring in 5-6-7 Players to cone in they free-agency to replace players is not the answer and takes this unit right back to where they started
A Starting Caliber Safety is a must to replace Chung
A Designated pass rusher to replace Graham
Develop some young LB’s to replace Cole/Ryans in 2 years Time
But not an overhaul…
On Offense, Draft another OT & Center/Guard for Depth and Draft
A big WR ..
Add these 6-7 Players in the Off-Season and build upon what has been started

Out of the Free-Agents the Eagles have coming up
(Vick,Cooper, Maclin, P Hunt, Coleman, Allen & Anderson)
The Eagles should only resign Cooper, Allen, & maybe Vick
On a cheap back-up deal, let the others walk and replace them with solid a Draft picks..
I would flat out release Chung and pursue a Veteran Free-Agent and maybe a DT in Free-Agency, then Draft a CB,OLB/DE, WR
And Safety & OL Depth and build from there

Talent or coaching? How do you explain Todd Bowles and Sean McDermott who both had terrible defenses in Philly but have thrived and are possibly on the verge of HC jobs in the NFL with the wonderful job they did elsewhere? It has to be the talent doesn’t it? They both looked incompetent here in Philly and now both have top 5 defenses in the NFL.

There is more to it than that..talent is part of it sure. But the fine line in the NFL means a team can be 2-14 one year and 11-5 the next. AR looked like a complete bozo his last 2 years here, goes to kc and looks like a genius. Atlanta won a division i think last year and blow this year.
i think a lot has to do with the chemistry, injuries. Remember the birds blow up of the last couple of years was due to some bad mix of personalities….and not having people in the right spot.

I don’t know cigar, Reid was handed a bad team with six pro bowlers the only real addition to that team was a game managing QB and the coaching staff. Talent does matter but the right coaching staff and the right schemes can overcome almost anything. I wasn’t on board with the Kelly hire because of what seemed at the time his blatant disregard for a terrible defense. At the end of the day unless they upgrade certain spots on this defense in my opinion next year could turn in to an Atlanta situation. First to last.

kelly was handed a team with the best rb in the game, a dynamic WR, an above average o.line an emerging QB etc.
my point with AR is he came in to an underachieving group, made a change in dynamics and certainly turned it around. similarly he changed dynamics of a pretty successful eagles team and brought in mudd and washburn and some attitudnal superstars and it was a disaster….
i do agree that the eagles need to get a few impact players on defense– boykins is obviously a playmaker as is kendricks and barwin… a dynamic pass rusher and another ball hawk in the secondary is a must.
point is in the nfl there isn’t much difference between 6-10 and 10-6..

I agree,
How Brewski thinks that the Eagles were not the best Job to take last year is puzzling to say the least.. Kelly’s Options with Browns/Bills/Jags/TB Bucs 2 years ago were complete rebuilding Jobs and Kelly being an Offensive Coach saw the Eagles with much better Talent, Speed & Athleticism across the Board than the other Teams he talked to.. Not even an comparison

i would also add that the teams management, particularly lurie is very stable. they don’t turnover coaches, they patiently (maybe to a fault) let the coaches coach. they understand that there are ups/downs. Look at the shitty teams they all turnover management and coaches constently.

Brewski stated no such thing. Brewski disputed your claim that the eagles were so much more talented than the other teams. You were asserting that as the primary reason for Chip taking the job. even though when he was first hired a few losses later you also were knocking him and proffered that the primary reason for him taking the job was the looming sanctions due to violations at Oregon.
What brewski stated was that the eagles were not more talented than all those other teams other than Jacksonville. brewski credits Chip’s innovation and ability to get the most out of an underachieving team. Lastly, brewski states that location, population, media market, and affluence/wealth of team made Philly a far more attractive choice for a highly sought innovative coach trying to make his mark.

If you think the Buffalo Bills,Cleveland Browns, the TB Bucs, the year earlier, were more attractive Jobs from an Overall Team Talent and especially on the Offensive Side of the Ball than the Eagles opening was for Chip Kelky or any other Offensice Coach,
then there is no sense in further discussing Football with you period..

It’s not like the underachieving group is being coached by Reid…he hired Bob Sutton, who switched from a two-gap 3-4 to a one-gap 3-4, and the defense took off. Sutton has full autonomy on defense, like Jim Johnson.

Reid’s real strength is being the CEO. Building an organization, hiring smart coaches around him, setting a stardard or model for the franchise to follow. But once guys like John Harbaugh, Leslie Frasier, and Ron Riviera left, and JJ died (may he RIP), and he couldn’t replace them, the team fell apart. When Belichick loses guys, it’s no problem, because he could coach offense, defense, or special teams, and he has a hand in shaping what they do schematically in all phases. Reid isn’t that way, so if he hires good guys around him, he has success.

Duh! Remember this about cheat a chick up I. New England… He was mediocre at best before a certain qb came along.
A good leader hires good people around him..that’s management 101. AR for whatever reason lost sight of that … He tried to put together a dream team of coaching. In retro spec the should have stayed the course with McDermott and built his staff with good young teaching coaches. He fell in love with MUDs stretch run and washburns wide 9..

Jairus Bryd is a no brainer he needs to be signed, a monster OLB would be nice as well, Cole did well but put him in Thornton’s spot and get a true blitzing disrupting OLB and that would be an upgrade.

I have serious doubts about Johnny Football ever
Being a successful NFL QB , due to his lack of arm strength and size, but make no mistake, the kid can play and bring energy & passion to a Franchise who are desperate and need excitement to their Franchises
Teams like the Browns,Jags,Raiders, & Vikings
Will have to consider selecting him
I look at him as a Tim Tebow type, a great College QB
And Leader, just don’t think he will be effective at the NFL
Level though he is fun to watch., if he gets on a Team
with a solid running game, some weapons on the outside,
And a decent a Defense, he’s got a shot, but slinging the Ball 40 times a Game and running the ball at his size, he wouldn’t make it thru a Full
Season in my opinion..
The Vikings would be his best landing spot I believe..

For you to compare him to Tebow shows that you haven’t been watching him because the kid isnt just a motivator off the field, he has the arm to back it up on the field. Hes a accurate passer, and has enough arm strength, which can obviously be developed and improved. But hes not as small as you think, 6’1 210. Russell wilson is a midget yet is very effective. Height can be overrated at times. He has passed my eye test. The kid has “IT”

Cigar, I’m not diminishing anything Foles is doing because I’m extremely happy and excited about whats happening here, but you cant tell me that Howie and his “group” aren’t watching because I know for a fact they are watching Johnny Tackle Football Manziel do what he does best, push and carry his team to a win. I like that hes not the front runner type guy. He grinds and fights all game long. He was tested last night, was down big, and not only verbally motivated his team but he lead by example on the field. The kid has Guts. You can’t teach the stuff he does. I love what Foles is doing, but Id like to see a more athletic, quicker, faster QB back there that takes care of the ball like Foles does.. its Johnny Football.. we will start to see his stock rise in the coming months.. if not, I think the eagles will take a serious look at him. If he falls down the draft board into the 20s, the birds need to draft him..

JF is listed at 6-1, 210lbs but is more like 5-11 & 3/4″
And about 205lbs. You can almost always take
Some height/lbs from the College listings to
The Official Height & Measurements of
The Indy Combine.. We see it every year that College Players size are
are overstated .. He will go in the Top 10-12 for thee are too many desperate Teams out there in need of exciting their Fan Bases and will take a chance on him..
Eagles will be Selecting # 22-24 and maybe lower if the make a deep run
And JF will be way off the board by then
Anyways, the Eagles will go DL/OLB, CB & Safety Positions
With their first couple of Picks, at least they should in my opinion

its gonna be hard to pass up a talent like Johnny Manziel! He has that ‘it’ factor that lets you know he can make plays in the crunch time of games…he has got athleticism and speed that can even more explosiveness to our already dominant running game. If he is there in the second round…I think you grab him!

Koolbreeze if the Eagles pass up any impact defensive players and grab Johnny Football that would have disaster written all over it. He has talent but I don’t know if he has the durability to last in the NFL.

Hey kool. Have you checked out foles win loss record, the near perfect season he’s having, almost historic,, records his touch. His smarts, his leadership, his big throws downfield ,records set, he will be the quarterback in eagles history, in one year they will have to put Foles Jersey over number five

Biglion821 we can get the impact defensive or offensive player in the first round! I dont think he would take that many hits in Kelly’s system…but he has that knack…that ‘it’ factor that you need in a QB
haveablunt…you smoke too much…it impacts your brain…I never said that Shady would not be effective at Running back with Foles..lying azz…I said he would be more effective in the read-option with Vick! ..and he would even be more effective with any mobile QB who is a legitimate threat to break off a big run…he would be more effective with a QB like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, or Kapernick…but Shady is the best running back in the league..you can put him with ANY Qb and he will be successful…
Get it right!! Dont be a lying azz!

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)

Chip Kelly couldn’t have been more clear, the day after the Eagles beat the Cowboys to win the NFC East.

Nick Foles is the guy.

“To go through a season and you kind of sit back and look at what he’s accomplished, he’s just—well, you know, it’s been a really, really good year. Not every play is going to be perfect for you, but he is the perfect quarterback for us ,” Kelly told Angelo Cataldi

Oh shit – wait till Kelly hears that kollbreeze doesn’t agree…LOL

Good Game in the Rose Bowl
Stanford vs Mich State which probably will showcase
6-8 Players Drafted by NFL Teams in 2014
I believe Scouts and Gamble/Roseman will be watching the following Players

Stanford
OLB/DE – Trent Murphy who I like slot and reminds me a little of a JJ Watt,
Paul Krueger, Ryan Kerrigan Type
High motor, can play standing up on with hands down and at 6-6, 265lbs, has the frame to put on 10-15lbs daily in a Pro Program.. Hi Football IQ and a huge wind-span.. This player will make an impact in the NFL
DE – Joseph Mauro
LB – Skolv – high motor, all over the field

Mich State
CB- Dequeeze Denard- physical and a gre cover CB,
Long reach, good leaping abiliti
Mich State also has some good DL & LB one of which Bullock was suspended for breaking Team Rules last week and did not make the Trip

it’s going to be great for the eagles moving forward, let’s get it going now, beat the living hell out of the saints, and their puny qb Brees, not going to get ahead of that , just win, just win

Go eagles, beat the saints

Weve gotta stop Jimmy Grahm somehow. Hes 6’7 265 and faster than wide receivers. Last week tight ends killed us.. We have a much better running game. And we need brees to throw some INTs.. saints have lost 2 out of their last 3 games.. We can win this one..
