Chip Kelly Will Bring A Super Bowl To Philadelphia

ChipKelly5In dissecting Chip Kelly’s Monday press conference, he is not satisfied with anything and appreciative of everything. Chip wants to be associated as part of the franchise and a compliment to the coaching staff, do not label anything as just “his.” There is a connection from Chip to the media, to the fan and most importantly to the players and staff of the Philadelphia Eagles.

What Chip accomplished this season is what most of us expected during his sophomore campaign.

Kelly’s contribution was far greater then a new style and pace of offensive play-calling. Nutrition, science, psychology, technology and off-field discipline morphed boys into men. Our players stayed healthy and maintained their energy throughout the entire football game; just another intangible that Kelly introduced during his rookie season.

There was a preseason worry that if his “system” failed he would lose the support of the locker room.

Instead, we witnessed maturity, a togetherness, and unification. What he did to make us forget about the drama that surrounded Cary Williams, Riley Cooper and the QB controversy, those are attributes s to Chip that made us take notice.

Chip made his share of football mistakes throughout the season. He has acknowledged them, has begun to correct them, and has assured us he will probably make a few more.

Only a special coach, one who demanded the respect of his players could have accomplished what Chip did in 2013. We may feel the Eagles overachieved, but Kelly believes what his team accomplished was what they expected from this season. He is confident that if his players prepare the right way, execute with minimum mistakes, they will be in a great position to win the football game.

We should expect to win the NFC East again in 2014. A playoff win or two could certainly occur if changes are made via free agency and through the draft.

Chip was the right hire for Philadelphia. He has essentially given life to a product that was pronounced dead for the better parts of two seasons.

Expect to be winners for years to come, contenders sooner than later, and Super Bowl champions during the Kelly era.

“Chip Kelly Will Bring A Super Bowl To Philadelphia”
Nice to be optimistic, but we have never won a SB, & haven’t won a Championship since 1960, with better coaches, teams, & rosters than this, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves. A lot of Nostradamus’s on this site tonight, with their green goggles on, drinking the green kool-aid. Relax! LOL!!!!

Take it for what it’s worth.

Earlier today, it was discussed how impending-free-agent Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin wants to return to Philadelphia. Now, a rumor has emerged that Maclin will indeed re-sign with the Eagles. From 97.5 The Fanatic radio host Jason Ashworth:

Believe it if you want, but I’m told #Maclin is re-signing with the #Eagles. To be announced after the playoffs. His words, “Done Deal.”

— Jason Ashworth (@JayA_975) January 6, 2014

This report is far from official at this point, so take it with a grain of salt. If it’s true, that’s certainly good news for the Eagles. Maclin’s departure would leave a hole at wide receiver. If the Eagles get a deal done with the talented wideout before the new league year (March 11, 2014), the team doesn’t have to worry about losing him in free agency

I thought I did by posting Jason Ashworths name. I would think readers would be smart enough to know that bloggers on gcobb have no access to players and/or the Eagles directly. Its not like I talked to Maclin directly. But if I came off like I talked to Maclin for the slow readers I got this from BGN. But anyway who cares.

Nick Foles is the starter and Vick is gone what if at pick 22 Johnny Manziel is on the board and Howie has him rated on their board as a top 10 pick and clearly the highest rated player still available do the Eagles take him? What if a safety or pass rusher is there at 22 but are rated much lower than Manziel on the Eagles big board? Do you take the 4th rated safety or 5th rated pass rusher just because its an area of need or do you take a Manziel who is rated much higher but not necessarily a need? Howie talked about best players available and not reaching. Just a thought. What do you do if something like that happens?

I think the Eagles would pass on Manziel, he’s to small. Look at Chips QB’s at college, they were pretty much tall. That’s why Howie keeps stressing Foles’ size..some one who is tall and can see over the line. Manziel is a video game QB who I personally believe will not last in the NFL due to injury and consistent ineffectiveness.

I’d bet pretty much anything that Manziel is long gone before we pick at 22. Too many teams are in dire need of a QB (Texans, Vikings, Raiders, Jaguars, etc). With so many of these guys opting to return to college, it just ups Manziel’s stock. I think he’s too small for the NFL and is likely going to be injured very often. I also think he’s a diva which is not something I want in my QB. He’s the Desean Jackson of QBs.

Its not a side show if he’s making plays and winning. Im one that feels Manziel will be a star in this league. He has an arm, accurate, had a great last season, and is mobile. Hes 6’1 210, really not that small .

If Manziel falls which he may because of the off the field issues, at # 22 the eagles will draft him.. Not a doubt in my mind. That’s more value at that spot in the draft, and we know how much Howie and Chip love value picks..

The eagles can tell you they took the best players on the board the past two years but that’s bs they need to draft cox he fit the wide nine but doesn’t fit the 3-4 curry the same thing they were trying to get younger at de and they had no faith and graham and they needed a lb for years that’s why they took Kendrick’s and this years past draft they needed to get younger in the Oline that’s why lane Johnson is here ertz the same thing celek isn’t a good pass catcher he is a good blocker. So don’t let the eagles beat you over the head with that bs that they don’t draft for need they take the best player available that’s nonsense

Fletcher Cox does fit into a 34 as a prototypical 34 DE. His lack of production doesn’t take away from that…he’s just not playing up to that #1 selection status. Keep in mind, he’s playes 43 D tackle his whole college career and this was his first year playing 34 end. It takes time to get acclimated, learn the technique and nuances to develop into that position. Some things are intricate for that position. You don’t just step right in and master the position you never played. Gotta give these guys time instead of wanting to trade everybody.

They can tell that cox can play in any scheme that doesn’t mean he is gonna be good in any scheme he could be great in a 4-3 but only good in a 3-4 I bet u right now if the eagles knew they were gonna be running a 3-4 in a year later they would’ve never took cox and they would’ve found a way to get Poe

Poe was subaverage last year. He stepped up this year after getting acclimated to the speed of the game. With that being said..I liked Poe too. KC liked him and snatched him up. Sometimes you can’t get up to get the player because it’s to costly.

That was the knock on him. If he was selected by the eagles he would’ve been killed by the fan base last year. We don’t give our players time to develop. We are ready to label them as busts and cast them off to quickly in favor of other teams players that may not fit the scheme either.

A player that reminds me of Poe is Louis Nix III. He didn’t have the best year this season due to some injury issues. I wouldn’t take him in the first though. Although where the Eagles pick…there is not much difference between those players and the ones in the top of the second round.

That might of been the case with Poe last year but remember what I said if the eagles knew they were gonna be running a 3-4 they would’ve took him over cox cause cox is a 4-3 dt not a 3-4 de he might csn play it cause he has size but that doesn’t mean he is gonna be any good at it just like curry do you think he would’ve been here if they knew they gonna be running a 3-4 hell he had more sacks than cox and he still don’t fit

I agree with your point on Curry, that’s why I have not argued that point…I think Cox has the size and talent and ability that translates to a 34 D End, it’s just going to take time, i.e. next season for him to really mature into the role of a 34 DE. If he fails to do so…then the Eagles have a decision to make. Poe wasn’t available for the Eagles..who would you have taken?

gloomysmitty

The eagles traded up to cox Poe was only picked one spot ahead of him they could’ve traded up to more spots and got or traded with kc and got Poe they never would’ve thought we were gonna take him with cox on the board truth be told the eagles dline should look like this re- cole with curry DT- Thornton – cox LE graham – Phillip hunt now it put that with Conor Barwin at strong side lb Ryan’s in the middle Kendrick’s on weak this D would be way better and get way more pass rush.

Looking into Cedric Thornton’s history at Southern Arkansas State University, he was a D Tackle, but spent some time at the Defensive End position too, depending on the scheme they ran against their opponent. He has familiarity with the D End position.

I still like DT Sha’Reede Hageman from the University of Minnesota for the Eagles this upcoming Draft.. At 6-6″ – 315lbs, he can play up and down the line and has some explosion off the ball… He has the frame to put on 10-15 lbs withing 2 Years in a NFL Program… Would be a very good Selection at #22 to continue to add to a very young Eagles DL and to go along with Cox/Thornton/Logan..

And those who think he will ever be a pure-pass rusher which Cox never has been in his Career are wishful thinking
He’s a run first DL a who does have strength
and skills to get to the backfield, but an explosive Pash-rusher he is not which is not his role as a 3-4 Down DE in the majority
Of his snaps as most down Daexare in a 3-4 where the LB’s are more of the pass-rushers who are expected to get the Sack a Totals..

Trades in the NFL involving Players with multiple years on their Contract almost never happen… A player in his Final Year where Team Traded too can afford and then decide what to do afterwards is a possibility, buyt with mulptiple years left.. Teams just don’t get involved with Players like that too often.. Too many other PLayers availalbe either in Free-Agency or the Draft to pursue instead of assuming another Teams bad Contract..
Even MLB & NBA are getting this way where Teams/GM’s are not messing around others Teams PLayers with multiple Years left on their Deals.

Anyone recall what the Falcons did to get Julio Jones? They paid a premium to acquire him.

They surrendered their first-round pick (27), a second-rounder (59) and a fourth-rounder (124) that year, plus a first-rounder and a fourth-rounder the following year.

Waaay too much for one player. Look at the Falcons now, they ruined their future just for 1 player. You cant do that. It takes a team to win not just 1 premier guy, Idc how you slice it..

Jon, in reference to Manziel in round 1, as “we know how Chip likes to have a dual threat QB”. After Vick leaves via FA, Chip has exactly “0” dual threat QB’s on his roster, one of which he drafted last year. Your opinion of what Chip wants differs from what Chip’s action have demonstrated so far. Also, Julio Jones is a terrific reciever and had as much to do with Atlanta making the NFC Championship game as anyone last season. Atlanta was bad this year because they signed an over the hill FA RB in Jackson and were stricken with the injury bug not their draft day deal for a top 5 reciever.

Everz11, Good teams overcome injuries. They were just a bad team bro. They mortgaged the future for 1 WR, you just cant do that. That defense has had holes for years and Ryans throws way too many picks 26tds 17INTs this year.. But In regards to Manziel, who did Chip start opening day against the redskins? Also, who even after he was injured, did Chip leave the door wide open for to start again? Michael Vick, the dual threat at QB. Even now, he still hasn’t fully committed to Foles. He said he wants competition at every position including QB. But like I said, he has two QBs that are stationary, now he has to get a guy that we all know would fit best in this offense, a mobile QB, not one that just runs all over the field but one that has the THREAT to take off and run. Why was he still using the zone read even after Vick was injured when we all know Foles cant run but 2-3 yards? Because that’s the option he wants to be able to use.

Were only seeing maybe 70% of what Chip wants to do on offense because Chip hasn’t gotten the dual threat he really needs for THIS offense..

Don’t be alarmed Foles supporters, but Im not just a Foles supporter I’m a Eagles fan and support them overall..

Do you listen to anything that Chip says? Take your Foles shades off for a second and open your eyes and ears. He and Howie both said it was a “Value pick” and “We didn’t have any intention of drafting a QB but we just couldn’t pass this up” (Last quote Howies words just yesterday). As well as Foles did this year, records and all, we only got to the 17th game. He hasn’t won anything of significance. This QB position for the Eagles is still wide open going into camp and I’m happy because I want the very best QB as my teams leader. One that can do it all. Kap, RWilson, CamNew, ARod, (Dual threats)

I was very pleased with Foles and if he starts next year id be okay with it, but if hes going to run this offense, he has to improve on so much and really take this thing to the next level..

Cigar, be a fan of the team and and be honest with what there needs are. Don’t just blindly follow Foles and not admit to the holes he has in his game.. Remember 4 of 7 beginning drives were flat as a board on offense and that killed us, it should of been a blow out win. The defense held Brees, picked him off twice. It was right there. Dead drives.. Foles cant have those..

A lot of the analyst that watched the game over and over on the coaches tape said Foles held on to the ball too long, took unnecessary sacks and was hesitant to throw the ball. The guys were “NFL open” they said. He locked in on Cooper too much they said,(his safety valve). Foles not throwing picks is nice, but the greats take chances, you cant be scared. He has a lot of maturing and work to do this off season if he wants to take his game to the next level..

Both Maclin and Cooper said this over the weekend. NFL Network are late with this report..

Maclin gets a 1 year deal then a fat contract after that, IF he remains healthy. Coming off of tearing his ACL again and on the same let isn’t great news and gives him no leverage in negotiations. But I’m hearing his recover has been going really really well.

Cooper gets a 3-4 year 35-40mil deal 10mil guaranteed. If this does happen, don’t expect them to draft many WRs. Maybe 1 big receiver but that’s it, they still have to develop and groom their own guys..

Whose physical and can block and make the tough catches to keep the chains moving, and works between the numbers
If you have D-Hax,Naclin & Cooper, you have the deep routes already covered, you need that big, tough target to work in traffic and in the red-zone..

With Kelly’s Offensive Scheme,
There really is no True #1 Receiver with 80-90 Receptions needed.
Instead they will have 3-4 WR with 40-55 Catches each along with 2 TE’s with another 35-40 Receptions each and McCoy/RB’s with another 40-50 Receptions.. It’s what Kelly/Shurmur run.. Multiple targets and threats
Out of the same page that the Patiots,Packers & Saibts have done in recent Years which is spreading the ball out to multiple Pkaymakers based on Oppenents a Defensive Tendancies and match-ups which is the way to go in my opinion..

I’m just interested in a stud wideout…I’m not worried about the 1’s 2’s and 3’s. I want a go to guy that can take over a game from the offensive perspective when the game is hanging in the balance. Look at who Jameis Winston went to on the last play…his money guy, Kelvin Benjamin!

I want one as well but in this offense guys like Riley Cooper can flourish. I’m really impressed with what Chip and the rest of this offensive coaching staff have done. I like how adaptable they are.Two totally different styles at QB, Vick over .500 win pct 5-3, Foles 8-2. Its gonna be a fun ride moving forward..

Jeff, we are on the same page as it relates to the receiver situation.
Paul…dont screw around with it…go all in on the big strong receiver…Kelvin Bryant, he’s obviously much more than a possession receiver though, but hey. I honestly feel that by the time the Eagles pick, I’m taking the best player available, and in the scope of things, it will probably be a reciever, corner or OLB. In the first 3 rounds I want one of each, actually a safety before the CB.

Eagles,
I go Defense with the first 3 Picks
A DL, Safet & OLB before I go WR if the aeagkes sign both Cooper & Maclin.. He’ll the Eagles a Offense just set a record for points,
Receiving Yards and plays over 20 Yards in the passing game
With the current WR Corps they already have (and without Maclin
To boot).. The Defense long term needs to be addressed and especially in the Secondary as does and aging OL with both Peters & Herremans over 30 years of she and Mathis not far behind..
Their a defense held together pretty well but is nowhere near a Championship level where’s as the Offense had done of best Team Statistics in Franchise a history, I just don’t see a huge need at WR
For the next Season or two where I do see have a lot of concerns with the Eagles Secondary now (Safety) and the need for a better Pass-Rush
T coke played well but how much is left in his Tank,
Ryans is getting close to 30 and played a lot of a Football
So my concerns and attention would be on the Defensive side of the Ball
This a Draft with an eye on the OL as well

Paul…I look at it like this. The talent at the safety and OLB position is so close after Barr and Mack as it relates to the OLB position, I can get that talent in the first four rounds. However, The receivers I’m interested in will not be around after the third. I understand your point, but I’m not looking at it from a need stand point to drive my selection. I have a sleeper DT, Zack Kerr, 6’2″ 320 from Delaware. He’s a space eater. I know you like Hageman, but I feel we already have similar talent here.

Trade a guy that has won significantly in the nfl and set prolific records for a college qb? I guess your job is to get people to respond but that is beyond absurd. Look at the track record of recent high round qb picks. A proven nfl commodity

RB Brown would return a 5th at best and probably a 6th Rd in return.
RB’s are a dime a dozen in the NFL with more emphasis on Receivers & TE’s

Which is why I found it crazy the Colts didn’t trade with us instead of Cleveland. Colts sending Browns a 1st for Richardson looks stupid when you consider we would have given them the equally young yet more explosive Brown for a mid-rounder.

The most idiotic post ever right there my friends and not so much friends, trade a qb who at the highest left level not only competed but dominated

Put yourself through that trade in the position of the redskins, who traded for marketing over ability, it hasn’t worked in dc, it will obviously not work in Philly

This is what sports journalism has become, shit on the white qb, unless he’s a so called franchise qb, and hype out the ass the “skill set” of the black running qb

It’s as bad as the Jackie Robinson days

Teddy Bridgewater is not a running QB, he’s a pocket passer. Just because he is African Ameican QB does not mean he’s a running QB. Everything on here does not come down to race. For those who see it that way more than likely need to look within themselves and ask why do I feel and think like this!

I disagree Paul. UCLA has a lot of designed run plays for Hundley to take advantage of his speed. He is not a run first guy, but he is pretty close and I would say that at this point, he is a better runner than passer. Most of his completions are bubble screens, swing passes and other very short throws. He struggles getting the ball downfield as he often stares down his WRs. He also had 750 yards this year and 11 rushing tds.

Why is anybody even suggesting the notion of trading Foles? He played as well as a QB could this season. No GM ever would trade away a young QB prospect coming off such a great year… (unless there’s some sort of conflict ala Eli Manning San Diego etc).

Because some people think they know what Kelly wants more than Kelly does. Chip, unfortunately is socially pigeon hold by the idea that he must have this certain type of QB when he repeatedly has stated otherwise. Some people just can’t accept that to be true and hold onto what they believe Chip Kelly wants, despite what he says or does.

You wait a minute, Jackie Robinson put up historic numbers and many doubted his ability because of color

Your journalism reeks of the same putrid stench, self.promotion , agenda, over truth

I am sure Robinsons family loathed to read he. Wasn’t good enough, just like Foles family today

Yo Jake you know we have had our differences but even though Foles played lights out when he took over, this is about Kelly and I just have this feeling that he will run Foles out of here first chance he gets. Nothing to do with color it’s just the design of his offense.

Chip wants big guys he needs a fat dt I want them to trade cox but I don’t think it’s gonna happen I wish it would cause he doesn’t fit the 3-4 scheme I wouldn’t mind the trio of djack,Maclin, cooper and sign jacoby jones he kills three needs for them kr,punt returner, and a tall wr and in the draft get another wr by the 4th rd and but they need to sign tj ward and Jason worilds they can get them on the cheap.

Looking at Foles press conference makes me want to puke.

“We’re going to work to get better”.

What you fucking autistic goof ball?

Shady is a record breaking running back.

DJax is a proven star in the league.

The offensive line is one of the best in the league.

The defense gave you 2 turnovers in the first half you were supposed to turn into points which would have forced the Saints to throw the ball in the 2nd half.

Foles …YOUR BUM ASS HAVE TO GET BETTER! NOT WE!

You can’t play scared to lose and win in the playoffs.

You can’t be too scared to pull the trigger going 3 and out early in games, when teams are daring you to beat the over the top with an injured secondary.

What that tell you when a team with a patch worked secondary come in the game and dare you to throw against them?

The Saints seen the tape and know Foles prefers to low risk, high percentage throws and I don’t want to hear a damn thing about Foles passer rating because I’ve looked back at a few games and it’s the design of Chip’s plays that have the game changers get the ball 5-7 yards from the line of scrimmage and they’re up the field with blockers in front of them for big chunks, so the majority of those big plays were 5-7 yard throws from Foles.

A lot of them were big runs from Shady too.

Foles gets on my damn nerves with this..we’ll get better garbage.

Is he saying he’ll throw the ball to his wide open receivers and not miss early because he’s usually nervous in big games?

I’m just praying Chip see what we see and get his guy after Foles fall in his face next season.

The Saints game was a blown opportunity.

Shady is not getting any younger and Djax is getting frustrated by looking at the tape and everyone in the room can see him with steps on a guy while captain check down is throwing the ball between the tackles, which does nothing but get intentional grounding and looks good in the passer rating column.

This team had an opportunity to make noise in the playoffs and every pundit out there was saying Nick have to come out the chute…Nick can not have these slow starts like the last few games.

Foles have the slow starts because teams take away his comfortable stuff by bringing 8 in the box and playing tight man to man.

No bubble screens!!!!!!!!

Send 4 men to Shady and don’t play the misdirection.

This will go down as a blown opportunity, especially if this team don’t make it next year.

And yet he led them on a drive to have the lead with less than 4 minutes left. This was a team loss Songs, but you want to pin it on one guy like always. He does have to get better. He is a 2nd year qb in a new offense who only has 16 starts under his belt.

You guys want a beast of a man at Nose Tackle? Lets draft Daniel McCullers from Tennessee. Listen to his height and weight, the man is 6’8 and weighs 360 pounds.. Sheesh.. He’s a senior and around 23 24 yrs old, has been pretty productive during his college career and has been labeled as “unstoppable”. He will be playing in the senior bowl so I ll be keeping my eyes on him..

He’d anchor the middle of our defensive line for the next 10 years. You plug him in there and watch him work. Hes very powerful and explosive. At Tennessee both the coaches and players said that “defense would go as far as Dan McCullers takes us”.. So he also has leadership qualities.. Watch out for Daniel McCullers..

Absolutely, he wont see the field if he’s not up to snuff conditioning wise. Kelly was tough on guys all camp long over conditioning, though most eventually bought in all the way but their was some apprehension… But this kid McCullers is a mountain of a man, aggressive and has a mean streak.. As I watch tape the more I like him.
