Eagles Sign Safety Chris Maragos

maragosThe Eagles made another move to address the safety position on Wednesday, signing former Seahawks safety Chris Maragos to a three-year deal.

Maragos has made his mark as a special teams ace in the league, but he could get at an opportunity to compete for playing time in the regular defense as well.

The Maragos signing almost certainly spells the end for Colt Anderson, who the Eagles kept around exclusively for special teams duties for several years.

Like Malcolm Jenkins and the other free agents the Eagles have pursued over the last two years, Maragos comes from a winning program having just won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. Howie Roseman and the front office continue to make it a priority to go after proven winners to help strengthen the winning culture of the team.

Excellent Signing…One of the Best Special Teams Players in the NFl
Not a Startign Safety by any means, but a solid Back-up and upgrade over
Colt Anderson/Kurt Coleman..
Plays Special Temas as if his hair is on fire… Fans are going to love this guy for he’s a lunch pale, overachiever, grunt type of guy that you love to have on your Team and hate as an opponent…. Nice Job Howie..

I will go out on a limb and predict that after the Eagles win the 2016 Super Bowl (Eagles are not ready yet for 2015)
that Chris Maragos will run for Mayor of Philadelphia opposite of
John Street III in a very close Election…

hopefully this offense can put up 35+ every single game this year, b/c we arent going to win a lot games if we score less.

its obvious we arent signing revis so we are now on an even playing field with everyone else in the east with this SHIT D.

if these cheapskates werent so cheap we could have revis and byrd and with those two guys we EASILY wouldve swept the NFC east this year.

now we are talking coin flips every week because our front office refuses to acknowledge defense.

add to the fact that having a swiss cheese defense stops chip from doing what he wants to do with the offense. other teams offense just gonna pound this D and waste the time clock, dictate the game and tempo….

malcolm jenkins lmfao. loser should just change his name to chung

i like these type signings, these are chip type guys and need people who believe in what he is doing to win, just like what pete carrol created in seattle. just need to hit home runs in the draft (still need to add pieces in FA) but winning is contagious and this is why you need winners.

chip type of guys are safeties that cant tackle and give up an passer rating to qbs 103+? shouldve just kept chung for cheaper.

chung the 71st rated 2013 safety at 2 million

OR

jenkins the 67th rated 2013 safety at 5 million

im actually pissed they cut chung at this point

chung was injured most of the year, but i do think jenkins is a clear upgrade to all of what we have or had. i tend not to read too much into a number rating as everyone fits into a scheme better than others, i believe jenkins will fit in well and produce. i could care a less how much players get paid because it is not my money and eagles generally are under the salary cap. these type moves got them to the playoffs last year and the big moves got them nothing but buyouts. so i see it as building with winners and hard workers not overpaid spoiled brats.

Eagles signed OLB Bryan Braman, formerly of the Texans.
A once-troubled former UDFA out of West Texas A&M, Braman never made any noise on defense in Houston, but racked up eight special teams tackles in 2013. That’ll likely be his role in Philadelphia as well. He turns 27 in May.

Would the fans be okay with Clinton Dix being drafted?

I would, he reminds me of a young Earl Thomas, hes a bit physical at times so he has to watch that, but hes all around the best safety in this draft

Then Pryor right after him..

I want my safeties 6’0 and taller, physical, aggressive, instinctive, cover safety that is fast and will lay a hit

Mhenski, in any organization, football teams, not only do you have the leaders, the studs, and they are rare, but you need the rank and file teammates, especially with a salary cap where a good portion can be/will be allocated to your top players

Eagles already spent a lot money on Cooper, peters, kelce, Jackson, and will spend a ton of money on foles if he replicates 2013

It obvious their new plan is to spend big in house, as paulman has stated, no one on defense has proven they command a big contract, but it will probably change in the future

In the meantime, relax and enjoy the ride, be a fan, have some trust in chip and his plan, it’s certainly a lot less stressful to you

Id find it hard to believe that the Eagles pass on either Dix or Pryor if they’re there at 22 and we still have this hole at safety..

Chip Kelly’s number 1 priority is always going to be offense that is just a fact, if he fields a rag tag bunch of defensive guys that holds teams to under 30 points he’ll live with that because he wants his offense to win games and doesn’t want to have to depend on his defense to win games. Seattle winning the Super Bowl with it’s defense means absolutely nothing to him.

Yeah DCar he could be gone too. Both Brown and Damaris Johnson. You’re right maybe a 4th or 5th. I think on draft day maybe a 3rd rounder (probably not) because as we see RB isn’t valued like it used to be. Teams wanna throw all over the place..

Would be nice, because we still need defense, & have alot of depth issues. We have Graham, Curry, & Brown for trade bait. Get some picks, because this draft is deep.

Yea Curry is gone. He’s a 4-3 guy, so is graham. They needs to trade them but if they do that directly effects their depth. So like you said they need more picks

I have a feeling that Howie is going to be aggressive in the trade market, since we haven’t signed any significant help in defense. Jenkins ain’t going to hack it. Wolff is still a major question mark. We still need 2-3 safeties, another couple CB’s, a starting NT, starting OLB, & depth for ILB, % tech DE, & WR.

Yeah ur right because there aren’t really any 5 tech DEs in the draft that we could get. They’d need to make a trade.

That’s one thing we know about Howie, he’s not gun shy esp with pulling off a trade for a need and or draft picks.

They need so much on defense. I honestly dont think they will be able to address all their defensive needs this off season. This is a 3 yr reconstruction and were currently in year 2

I’m hearing people say the eagles need to trade two 1sts for Jimmy Graham..

As much as I’d love Graham here, you dont mortgage your future like that unless you feel your a player away from a SB victory. We need defense..

Though I feel we still have some holes on offense too that Chip is addressing..

We don’t need him but that would be crazy but that’s too much compensation and the only position that needs upgrading on oline is RG herrmamans is done, does anybody know who could we pick up in a trade at rg

No way should any Team mortgage 2 #1 Picks for any player unless it’s a Top #5 True Elite QB who is in their Prime.. I wouldn’t Trade 2 #1 Picks for anyone in the NFL but Aaron Rodgers… (Manning,Brady,Brees are all on the decline and getting old)

Its also obvious that they were targeting special teams more then defensive help, which I can understand now replace Henery and I’m good.

Shady and Sproles…that’s a lethal, nasty combination in the backfield.

Get the kicker from seattle and special teams is good now, then we go to the draft and load up on defense with some oline picks

Dee ford has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. He says he’s better then Clowney. But isn’t he like 6’2?! He’s on the short side for a 3-4 DE and or OLB.. Idt they’ll draft him..

He is shorter, so that is why he would probably be there at 22. Heard Ray Diddy yesterday and he is in love with this guy. Said he doesnt think that Clinton-Dix or Pryor will be there at 22, but thinks that Dee Ford will and he would pick him though he would be tempted to pick one of the stud WRs at that spot too.

If Dix is there around 17 you trade with the Ravens, because I doubt they’d draft a safety two years in a row.

Mayock has been raving about Dix pro day. He said he can play both safety spots, he can cover WRs, he can hit, he said the teams were drooling over the kid and that he put on a shows…

He sounds like who we need.. I dont think the birds draft dee ford. I just dont see it..

Then he raved about Calvin Pryor and said he’s a player too, can hit and is very disruptive. He said he’s more of a in the box safety though.. That’s not what I think the Eagles want.. I think Dix is the pick..

If not Dix then its one of those stud we Benjamin or Beckmam Jr..

More McCoy/Sproles correlations… Since 2011, only 2 NFL RBs have 150+ catches and 8+ rec TDs: Darren Sproles & LeSean McCoy..

If you’re not a multi dimensional RB you won’t last long in this league or in this offense for that matter. Chip wants versatility, speed and smarts

Carroll is big, solid, but is another one who has Asanteitis. Good depth signing though. Give Fletcher & Williams competition.

I say we can at least get a 4th rd for brown, a 5th rd each for curry and graham, and package the two 4th rounders and move up and get a extra 3rd rounder and draft a good RG and Martavious in the 3rd round then package the two 5th rounders and get a CB
