Will Technological Upgrades Decrease Fan Attention At The Linc?

linc2The Philadelphia Eagles are currently upgrading Lincoln Financial Field with the latest and greatest technological advancements to improve the fan experience.  From gigantic high definition screens to increased Wi-Fi connection and speed, fans attending games this season will be treated to the best of the best.

With all of the bells and whistles that come with these additions, the question that I begin to ask myself, will this impact the attention level in which the fan devotes to the football field.

The at home experience with how the game is broadcasted and the quality/clarity of modern televisions, fans  have just as much of a reason to stay at home and watch the game versus the time, energy and money needed for the live sporting event.

Team owners are aware of this, and know how to even the playing field.  Provide the fan everything they would have at home, but do it bigger and better.

The “experience” of being there is like no other.  Over 60,000 die-hards, the energy in the air, the tailgate, memories and stories, it’s worth every penny.   This is still a successful selling point for the sold-out game attendance during the Eagles season.  There is still a waiting list for years if you wish to become a season ticket holder.  The supply and demand will never go away.  The NFL is a powerful and lucrative enterprise.

Ask yourself this question.  Forget about how much you check your phone for a text or score updates, or elect to use the bathroom/visit the concession stands prior to halftime.  Try to recall what people are doing during games the last few seasons.  Is the majority of the fan base fully dialed in to what is playing out on the football field?  The last few games that I attended, I was overwhelmed with the number of people I saw engaged with things not relevant to the game being played.

If you are like me and have been going to games since the days of the vet, the experience has certainly changed and it continues to change.  I recognize that the experience and the game itself are moving into a different direction.

Does it bother you that when you are screaming at the top of your lungs to pump up the defense on a 4th and 1 play, the guy in front of you and next to you are checking their smart phone or their eyes are looking at the large video board instead of the actual field?

I’m excited the Eagles are investing in the fan experience with their upgrade project, minus the increase in ticket prices.   If it creates an improved atmosphere I’m all in.

It will pay dividends for those fans who wonder what they missed due to the angle of your seat or being at the top row of the second deck.

If the life of an NFL referee wasn’t tough enough, wait until he blows the call and Eagle fans have something to say about it with the replays airing on the finest high definition screens that money can buy.

I can’t say if it will or won’t, but all I know is that when I’m at a game, I do not know what the other fans are doing (unless they are chanting or fighting) because I am too busy paying attention to the game. It makes no difference to me what others are doing because I want to know everything that is happening on that field.

Though people in general are more addicted to their phones / computers / technology than ever. It is gross to go out with friends and see their noses in their phone all night. I stop interacting with these people as much, would rather be around others who are more in tune with their surroundings. Facebook is good (to be able to stay in touch) and shitty at the same time (people want to see it all the damn time, and i do not want to know so much about your life!). Is it bad that I miss the 90’s where interactions happened face to face and you were not accessible 24/7?

I guess the irony is that we are all interacting and discussing this via technology.

Getting pretty close to telling people how they should watch a game Jeff. None of this stuff is going away, so might as well embrace it. Those that want to pay attention will, those that won’t, won’t.

i myself find football to be the worst game to watch live of all the major sports.

i love turning off the phone, computers… and sitting back with my bros and watch the game and have the option to rewind and do slow mo as needed… the only time i prefer to go to the game is when we are playing a trash opponent then ill go to the game because at home i would be tempted to switch the channel if its a blowout

i have this one group of friends that im in a fantasy football league with and i used to go to their house but i stopped a few years back because they got 3 tvs going, one redzone station, then sunday ticket and they are constantly changing the channel to see “their guys” then one tv for the eagles. when eagles make a good play, bad play, and in between ill comment and get nothing back as these dudes were to engrossed in the other tvs and stattracker on their phone/iphone. i had to quit that house

Who gives a damn about a stadium upgrade when the secondary is shit?

These shekel hoarders should have shelled out the coin to Byrd to upgrade the safety position.

What?

They need more screens to show receivers going right over the middle and toasting our safeties?

Sheesh!!!

I like the energy upgrades like the solar panels that light up with the wings on the outside and the wind energy fans that is pretty cool. I ride my the link daily on my commute to work downtown. They took the Desean look alike picture down and now seem to be building some type structure that is neon green almost Seattle colors which I do not get. Reminds me of Oregon maybe Eagles are in for a ridiculous color change.

This is also a way for the Eagles to get in the picture for a future Super Bowl bid. They needed to add seats for the big game. Now with over 70,000 seats they have more leverage if another SB will be granted in a cold weather city.

Songs…..are you 100% stupid or are you putting on a show? With Byrd this team wouldn’t be any better then it is now. They would be in Cap hell but not better.
The Eagles may not be ready to win a SB this year but damn will they look damn good trying!

You know that Songs, Kool and TS are all amped up with MV7wins announcment the other day about how he’s ready to take the Jets to the SB.

Songs has already ordered his #7 from the Jets Official site, and no doubt the three of them are off plastering Vick love all over whatever Jets fan forums exist out there..

With the Jets defense twice as good as the Eagles, with the Eagles playing the NFC West and with the Eagles a Bwoykins game saving int against Dallas away from being 9-7 while the Jets were 8-8 I don’t see where the Eagles are this dominate team compared to the Jets. So there is a very very realistic chance that the Jets have a better record. For every laugh we have of Geno Smith Jet fans laugh at our defense. You know that defense with Pryor, Wilkerson etc.

you have no tenure….and I kinda like you..so no…But Vinnie and Paulman needs to go.

So, this bet goes out to them.

I already got rid of Navy and Vinnie lost in the past but didn’t honor the bet.

The Eagles are not the good and will be even worse this season.

Talent wins in the NFL and you just don’t jettison a muliple pro bowl receiver in his prime think you can just replace him.

Especially when you get nothing in return.

So, this team is worse off.

The defense still sucks ass and the secondary is weak as hell.

Now opposing defenses will tighten up on the intermediate to short passes while stacking the box against Foles and Shady.

This offense will be totally exposed and the real Nick Foles will be seen this season.

8 wins at best and again….the Jets will have a better record.

I wouldn’t say that was a good bet.

Jets are a possible – 7-10 win team with 7-8 games more likely.
Ealgles are an 8-10 win team with 9-10 wins being more likely.

You’ll likely lose this bet, but you have a decent shot at winning.

i know the Eagles will get totally exposed for not upgrading the defense and letting their star reciever walk for nothing…

couple that with a stronger schedule and you have a very disapointing season.

The Eagles stregnthened their rival with letting Djax go to the skins.

The Skins will take the NFC East with no issue this year.

Outplays the Jets 1st Unit when they meet

“The Skins will take the NFC East with no issue this year.”

Eh…

Their defense may be worse than ours. They did remake it this off season so don’t know what they are truly capable of.

However, the reason we will likely beat out the Skins (this year at least) is b/c our oline is better than theirs. And will likely keep Foles upright., giving him extra time to throw. Skins line, while addressed is still very raw.

Though I will concede if the Skins get hot…watch out.

Reds kind Secondary is worse than Eagles
safety’s Meriweather & Clark are terrible in Pass-Coverage
CB D Hall is another Year older and other CB Dave Amerson was exposed big time last year as a a Rookie, though he should improve
DT Jason Hatcher was a nice upgrade and played very well vs the Eagles last Season while pkaying for the Cowboys,
If Apako & Kerrigen are healthy, they should have a good Pass Rush
But their ILB (London Fletcher retired) and their Safeties are weak

Irish coming off a major knee injury after being the rookie of the year and a last place schedule I think if I was a betting man I would feel confident 3-13 wont be the Redskins record. Couple that with Alfred Morris, Cameron Jordan, Hawkins, Djax and Garcon and you have something very comparable to Philly. You have to remember Philly isn’t the only place where players can can better from year to year no matter what shade of glasses you wear or what flavor Kool-Aid you drink. There ST and defense have a lot to be desired though. If I was a Redskins fan I would say your only a bad Nick Foles year of going back to 4-12 your damn selves.

DAG bold prediction this upcoming season. After 2 years in the same defense, after 2 years of no injuries Nate Allen not only will beat out Earl Wolfe for the starting safety spot he will out-perform Malcolm Jenkins. He will lead the team in tackles with over 100 and ints with 5. He will be selected as a alternate to the pro-bowl and sign a 3 year 15 million dollar deal with the Eagles after the season. He actually played better and better last year and I believe the light goes on this season.

I would not be surprised, Safety Nate Allen actually had a nice Season last year as I mentioned they ought last Season quite a few times
Is he ever going to be a big hitter, no, that’s not his game and never was, but as a cover-safety under Def/Secondary Coach Lyght’s tutuledge,
He will be a consistent and smart Player..

3-4 Key Players that need to next step up
Are Allen,Logan & Curry & Cox..
If these Players do along with solid contributions
From Jenkins, Cole and Rookie M Smith and DT B Allen
This Eagles a Defense will make a nice improvement and be a middle of the pack Defense

I wonder if Connor Barwin can play ilb cause something tells me that the eagles still might trade dion Jordan and Barwin might be able to take over for Ryan’s in 2015 and then have a lb cor of smith,Kendrick’s, Barwin and Jordan. All can cover and blitz.

I don’t see the Dolphins giving up on a Player that they moved up to get as the #3rd Overall Player in the 2013 Draft this soon..

I do see Brandon Graham being dealt to the 49ers (with Aldon Smith 4-8 Week Suspension or possibly the entire Season) or the Indy Colts (with Robert Mathis’s 4 Game Suspension)

The Eagles would probably settle for a 2015 4th Round Pick in return and maybe can sneak a 3rd Rounder from one of the 2 Teams I mentioned who will need some Pass-Rushers since their Top Players will miss time

Jets have an interesting sched.

They open with a murderer’s row over their first 7 games.
Raiders, @GB, Bears, Lions, @SD, Denver, @Pats. They better hopw to split the Chic/Det matchups, and get outta there at 2-5 (Raiders and wither Chic or Det)

My feeling is they’ll be 2-5, will have switched Qbs 3 times and the NY media will be calling for Ryan’s feet….er…head.

But….if they get through there without imploding, they have a pretty easy run in the second half…
Bills, @Chiefs, Steelers, @Bills, Fish, @Vikes, @Titans, Pats, @Fish

I think they’re an even team with those scrubs. Probelm is 5 on the road….so they should win 5.

Puts them at 7 wins. So either they implode after a disasterous start (probable) and win 5 or 6 games, or they hold it together and scrape out 8 wins….there’s no more upside than that.

Songs:
“Foles will be shit. The ‘real’ Nick Foles will be seen this year. The Skins will win easily….”

First 16 games of their careers:

New Superstar Hero RGIII:
9w 7L 65% 3520yrds 22 tds 7 ints 7.1%sacks 12 fumbles

Bum Assed Foles
9w 7L 63% 4590 yrds 33tds 7 ints 7.6% sacks 12 fumbles

The difference? RGIIIs passing stats faded through games 10, 11, 12, 13, 14….as teams figured out his running around. In game 16 he was a solid 8 of 18 for 100 yrds.

Meanwhile, the ‘bum ass’ has improved on a very steady pace. He is better now than he was in his first few games. RGIII has not improved. In fact, its easy to say he’s regressed.

This is why it takes a season (at least) to evaluate a QB. RGIII “set the league on fire” for his first half season or so….but, as with all running around QBs, that soon got figured out, and he was dropping sub 50% shitters 3x over his last half season last year.

Can you imagine Songs on here if Foles puts up a 48% 161 yrd 1td 1int disaster in his 29th start? ‘Cause that’s what his new hero did.

Fraud.

Griffin in now into his
