Its still very early in the preseason, but I have to say I’m getting a little concerned by the Eagles’ wide receiver situation.
Starters Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper have been battling injuries throughout Training Camp.
Cooper has a mysterious ankle injury, and has been seen in a boot, but he and the team continue to downplay the severity of the injury. There’s no timetable for his return.
Maclin is a guy who has struggled to stay healthy throughout his entire career. The Eagles are counting on him to take DeSean Jackson’s place as their number-one receiver, but it always seems like he’s battling some kind of injury here and there. He’s a guy that the injury bug visits very frequently.
Having both of these veteran starters leaves the Eagles very young, and very thin at the position.
Obviously the team is high on the potential of Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff, but these are both rookies that are pretty raw, and will require some time to adjust to the pro level of play.
Beyond these two, the Eagles have guys like Brad Smith, Arrelious Benn, Ifeanyi Momah, and Damaris Johnson. Or in other words, a handful of fringe guys and role players.
Seeing this situation unfold right now makes me wonder, once again, why was it necessary to release DeSean Jackson?
Jackson wasn’t the easiest person to deal with, I get that. But you mean to tell me that his personality was really so bad that it was completely destroying everything that Chip Kelly was trying to build? Am I to accept that it was so bad, that this brilliant head coach couldn’t figure out a way to work around the personality flaws of his wide receiver and keep his productive weapon on the roster?
Maclin and Cooper could very well get healthy soon, and in the regular season enjoy productive seasons. Matthews and Huff each have a chance to make significant contributions right away.
But the Eagles are not a better team without DeSean Jackson. And even though Kelly & company thought that they were getting rid of the distraction by releasing him, DeSean’s shadow is going to loom large over these receivers and this offense throughout the season, and could possibly become an even larger distraction than what Kelly was trying to avoid.
I sure wish everyone would get off the DeSean crap! He is no longer a member of the Eagles, move on. The same people crying bc he isn’t on the team anymore are the same whiner’s crying when DeSean had poor games….which was every BIG game the Eagles had.
Iggles, it isn’t whining when you state the truth about releasing your best WR (And that isn’t saying much), coming off his best year, & get nothing in return. That is the problem knowledgeable fans have! I couldn’t stand “Mesean” the 1 trick pony, but it was horribly handled, by an egotistical rookie coach, who thinks he invented the game & can just put anyone in his offense.
Hindenburgh 2.0. I hope I’m wrong.
agreed
THEY ARE MUCH BETTER NOW BECAUSE THEY WORK TOGETHER & NO ONE IS #1.
THEY HAVE SO VERY MANY MORE PROSPECTS !!!!!!!!!!
WHAT IS THIS GUY TALKING ABOUT THIN AT WR???????????
Free Agent Santonio Holmes is still out there
Here are some other Veteran WR’s that will be on Bubble with their respective Teams As Cuts will begin after Week #3/#4 of The Preseason
WR Greg Jennings/Jerome Simpson of the Vikings
WR Brandon Lloyd of the 49ers
WR Taquan Underwood of Panthers
WR Harry Douglas of the Falcons
WR E Bennett of the Bears
WR Brian Quick of the Rams
WR Brandon Gibson of the Dolphins
Paulman is Santonio healthy? I like him if he is.
I’ve heard any Team that has pursued Holmes Biggy
So maybe something else is going on behind the scenes, he’s a diva, no doubt and doesn’t really fit the Eagles Lockerroom all that well
But if healthy, and his head on right, he can make Plays
WR Laurent Robinson is another one on the streets still
As is Danarius Alexander who was coming off knee issues
I’m not sure if it doesn’t hurt to check on any of these players, bring them in for a workout or two, interviews and see where they are at
Should be ” I’ve heard in no Teams
Talking or Pursuing Holmes, etc, etc…
Brian Quick was a second rounder who has the “size” that really only Britt has on the roster. How about Chris Givens? He is currently listed in that starting role, but the Rams have Pettis, Bailey, Austin, Britt and Quick. Givens has great speed, a player I would certainly like to have on this roster.
The Chip Kelly offense is not an easy one to pick up. If we were to sign any WR, it’s not going to be a plug and play once they arrived.
I recognize the Eagles use heavy TE sets and our RB’s will be used in the passign game, but as Denny stated in his article and that we also are seeing, the depth at WR is thin with “priven players” past our slated starters who are currently injured.
The fact that we are worried about a guy like Cooper being healthy enough to start the season is such a turn of events. Here is a guy that was considered a solid 5th going into last season, and now is a “must” for our starting line-up.
Brian Quick has had issues learning Playbook
And getting on the field per Oeopke who follow the Rams
Going into his 3rd Season and has done very little
Means then Drftes Austin, Steadman las Draft
Then added Britt this year to go along with the others
(Givens,Pettite, etc) so 1 of these Pkayers will get Cut
excellent article, Denny…of course its a legitimate concern. Everyone had the rookie Matthews coming in and taking DJax place….that is until they saw his mediocre performance against the second string Chicago Bears.
I hope Nick Foles is learning a lot from Tom Brady…because he is going to have to be a pinpoint passer throwing the ball into some very tight windows when he finds that his receivers are not getting a lot of separation. I also hope that the O-line dominates against the good teams we face this year…like they did against the weak teams that Foles padded his stats against last year…Foles and the receivers will need all the time they can get!
Facts…..from 2009-2012 Maclin had 49 more catches, 5 more TD’s and 284 fewer yards then DeSean, those per Reuben Frank.
Let’s hear all the Maclin haters spew bs excuses as to why…..
Of course WR depth is an early concern, when you egotistically release your best WR & get nothing in return, have a WR made of tissue paper (Maclin), a WR that had 5 good games his entire career (Cooper), have spare parts at 5 other spots (Benn, Momah, Smith, Johnson, Maehl), & are counting heavily on 2 rookies. DUH!!!! I absolutely love Matthews & think he will be a very good WR, but counting heavily on him & Huff to make major contributions their rookie years, is unrealistic & delusional. Maclin is, was, & always will be a fragile, medicore WR, who does nothing but alligator arm passes, & fall to the ground when he does catch it, when he doesn’t get dinged! Better hope Kelly spreads the ball around, because I’m not impressed with what we have at starting WR (Cooper & Maclin).
I know for a fact that if the Eagles had kept DJax the same people bitching now bc he was released would be bitching bc he was kept. He would be blocking Matthews progress or Maclin is the better WR and DJax is taking targets from him……..
DJax was a 1 trick pony, very good 1 trick pony but still only had 1 trick. His salary didn’t match him as a WR on this team. Yes I would rather have him on this team but he is gone, so wipe the tears away, pull up your big boy pants and move on already.
Again you have no knowledge of the game…you’ve got to be the most simple minded person I’ve come across since Vinnie….In regards to DJAX being a 1 trick pony….is that because of the misconception he only goes deep? doesn’t play in the slot? doesn’t get the ball on reverses? doesn’t return punts? 1 trick pony because he wasn’t built to be a physical WR?
DJAX played the right side of for the Eagles for the most part, (found the following on Pro Football Focus – DJAX was in the slot on a total of 22 percent of his 2013 snaps. He was excellent in that spot, hauling in 29 of 35 targets, many of which were within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.
DeSean Jackson (since 2008)
Routes: 609
Targets: 139
Receptions: 98
Touchdowns: 10
Percentage of routes in slot: 19.85 (utilized a little more by Chip in the slot than previous seasons)
One trick pony…putting up stats like the below…?
Catch rate (68.9%) — Jackson ranked 8th among receivers with at least 100 targets
Deep catch rate (49%) — Jackson caught 49% of passes 20+ yards downfield
Deep touchdowns (8) — Jackson and A.J. Green were tied for 1st with 8 touchdowns of 20+ yards
Drop rate (5.8%) — Jackson ranked 4th among qualifying receivers in fewest drops
QB rating (124.4) — Quarterbacks racked up an astounding 124.4 passer rating when throwing to Jackson last year, best in the league
Touchdown rate (7.6%) — Jackson ranked 9th among qualifying receivers
Yards after-the-catch (6.0) — Jackson ranked 7th among qualifying receivers
Yards per reception (16.2) — Jackson ranked 4th among receiver with 100+ targets
No other WR ranked in the top 10 of those stats above.
Those are pretty good telling stats Real…….
There is little doubt that D-Jax had his best All-Around Season as a NFL WR last Year.. He made short receptions, long receptions, intermediate receptions and a ton of first Downs, etc, etc… It’s a shame that Eagles didn’t want to keep him at the $10 -$12 Million Per Season over the next 3 Seasons but it appears that no other Team wanted to pay him that either, since they were unable to Trade him even for the asking 2nd or 3rd Round Pick in Return…
It Is what it is.. D-Jax landed on his feet just fine and though making less $$$ for the Redskins still has the opportunity to play and put up Stats and play for another 6-8 Years if he stays healthy
No single Player is going to replace his Production which means that 3-4 Players will all have to step up to spread the Receptions,Yards, etc,etc … Coach Kelly and OC Shurmur will have to get more creative in their Passing Schemes to help free up more Receivers/TE’s & RB’s for this is what Coach’s do every Week of every Season ..
Everybody knows that I was not a D-JAx Fan for basically he did th ultimate betrayal to me as a Fan when he quit on his Teammates on more that one occasion during the 2010 Season when he was unhappy about his COntract Status.. I’m sorry, I just could never forgive a Player who quits on his Teammates, Coach’s, Front Office and Fans and for me, that’s when I was done with him… Meanwhile and fast forward to now, I wish him no ill will and hope he goes on to have a nice Career, I am just glad he’s not on my Team.. Now it’s time for other Players,Coach’s & Front Office to do their Jobs and figure how to replace D-Jax Production with other Players and Scheme Changes and if they fail to do so, then shame on them and jobs will be at stake and jeopardy just like it is every Season ..
Go Eagles … .
One trick pony my ass. Good stuff real.
To say his production can’t be replaced is not an intelligent statement. His catches will just go to other players and some will turn into more running plays for a Top 3 RB in the league. Everyone said TO couldn’t be replaced but he was by DJax….so now someone will replace DJax.
Whats so damn funny…when DJax didn’t show up in the NO playoff game everyone that is defending him now was bitching how he was weak and isn’t a true No. 1 WR. Make up your mind people, either he is God’s gift to WR’s like you’s are saying now OR he was good but not great like you all were saying in January.
Back just 3 months ago this site was blowing up about how Matthews is the next great WR, now you all are saying he won’t be in the league a year from now. My 7yr old daughter isn’t this damn wishy washy about shit.
Time to grow up and man up people. Either you are on the wagon your not. No room for fair weather fans.
Pretty funny that same stats and praise that is getting thrown around for one trick pony doesnt go the opposite way to the guy that devised the plans and schemes. I mean it was all one guys doing lol.
Izell I openly tell you I don’t like Chip Kelly but his offense is the truth, what does that have to do with Desean not being a one trick pony? If this blows up will it be because Foles regresses or defenses learned how to stop it? Does Foles get thrown to the wayside in search of a new QB? I will tell you this it’s ludicrous to think the success or failure of this offense is Desean Jackson. And I’m a DJax fan.
It’s not an individual post on you BigL I already know your stance on Kelly. However the prevailing sentiment whenever we go down this rabbit hole that consumes concerning Desean only two sides get drawn. DeSean was is and will be the end all be all or DeSean was a punk thug blah blah blah.
DeSean was enigma player. Outside of last year his impact was not as great as it seemed IMO. The reason why he was such high profile was because when he made plays they were highlight style plays….70yd bombs from McNabb Vick etc.
My position on him was he was an awesome no.2. I wouldnt label him as a one trick pony as he was just Devery Hendersen but he reminded me more of Donte Stallworth than a true No.1
Because Chip wasn’t included in this conversation…But at the same time, the first stat that was posted, showed DJAX production since 2008 and put up nice numbers when targeted in the slot. He was productive in the slot before Chip, just happens that Chip utliized him more…Not like he was unfamiliar with the position.
Also I know for a fact I never once “bitched” about DJAX being weak, and would never deem DJAX not a #1 receiver.
I’m a bit of a coach junkie Real guess its the big 40 staring at me in few years but the inside of the game etc is what spins my gears.
Ive looked at tons of play breakdowns etc of the Oregon and Eagles offense. DeSean was a good player but he didnt transcend anything. His impact was enhanced by the offense being based around an all everything back. Wrs DO NOT make a Chip Kelly offense. I posted a play breakdown I read up on from the guy from FishDuck the two WRs were Cooper and Johnson with Avant in the slot. They got one on one looks from the scheme and from defense because of the two most important players to Kelly’s offense, the TE and RB.
As simply as it gets Kelly uses the RB to get action on the LBs. If he gets action on the LBs he uses the TE to get action underneath the LBs or behind…which causes the S to give help on TE action. Suddenly you have one on one on the outside and someone has to make a play.
Ive read posts highlighting Cooper saying he wont get open etc and the above play where he caught the bomb and showed out in Oakland DeSean Jackson wasnt on the field Damaris Johnson was opposite and the most attention was paid to RB TEs. Thats the main reason Foles went beserk through the air. Time and time again the LBs bit on the RB fake..the TEs got behind the Safeties cheated up and the WRs were getting one on one from the outside.
I just read to many posts talking about DeSean like its Madden football and his 99 speed is the only reason why he caught TDs and was effective.
A career 50 reception 1k 5TD WR is not the end all be all to an offense IMO.
Now SHADY is THE END ALL BE ALL of this offense. Its not close.
Also if Ertz another player many on here either hype up or hype down is the legit truth at TE and is just a top 10 TE in this league…I believe if Foles doesnt turn into Derek Andersen this offense is going to look more dynamic than last year.
Better pray Ertz, Celek, Sprouls, Shady & Matthews have big years, because I don’t think we get much from anyone else.
This is why I think the Eagles will run the Ball 60% – 65% of the time which if they were smart would be a great way to attack a Defense.. Pound, Pound, Pound and keep up the quick pace and get the opponents DL pooped out and
Safety’s creeping up in the Box, then hit them for big plays with TE’s, Backs out of the Backfield (Sproles), etc, etc
I expect the Eagles WR group to be mostly Decoys in passing Routes and to be able to block downfield for the shorter Passes and Running Game
I bet the amount of Passes to go the Eagles TE’s and RB’s will be a similar amount that Target the WR Corps which is probably not a bad thing and harder for Defenses to defend..
I have to Laugh.
The same dudes n here have been Killing Cooper and Maclin for YEARS now they are the projected starters and they are banged up and everyone is concerned about depth behind them now.
You can not have it both ways. If you think they were no good then there should not be a significant drop off going to back ups. Or maybe they are NFL starters. I could care less.
Brandon Bair the 6 6 290 pound vet out of Oregon keeps getting praise from the DE position. The 29 year old vet keeps popping up in praise from the coaches. Expect him to make the 53 man roster if he continues to shine.
One more player I really like is Naje Goode. I think with his speed and athleticism at the MLB spot he will play a lot this season. Hes another player who just makes plays every time he is on the field. I expect him to spell Ryans atleast 30% of the snaps this season as he transitions to being our starting MLB of the future. Beau Allen continues to shine. Talk about the perfect fit. He is a load and at his size so far not only can he clog up the running lanes from the small sample Ive seen so far he already has generated more pressure on the QB than Bennie Logan. Hes big strong and durable. Very excited about him.
Beau Allen drafted in round 7 will play more and probably contribute more than everyone the Eagles drafted this year. A very good find by Roseman and Kelly.
Allen has quickly become a fan favorite due to the “belly.” I give the guy credit, he does not shy away from his roundness. We needed a big NT, we waited until round 7 and the guy looks like he will contribute this season.
Beau Allen was a solid Draft Pick in the 7th Round.
I liked him at Wisconsin and think he will get 15-20 Snaps a Game and fit in nicely as the designated Run-Stuffer/Short Yardage &
Red Zone DT…
I called for him to not only to be Selected but to make the Roster and be a Fan Favorite with his energy & personality that he brings..
See Once in a while, I hit on Players… Ha
LOL
Dag, good catch. Guys like Goode are the only reason to watch preseason ball. Developing your depth and rookies is the only major facet to take out of this off season.
Regular Season Game #1 Starters on Offense
OL – LT-Peters, LG-Mathis, C-Kelce, RG Molk & RT Herremans
TE – Celek & Ertz
QB – Foles
RB – McCoy
WR – Maclin & Matthews
Not bad paulman but Gardner would be better at RG. Molk is too small and Matthews won’t start out wide over Cooper.
Cooper won’t be playing the first 2 Weeks due to Foot/Ankle Injury Biggy
Mr PAulman – interesting – the birds just gave BaRBRE a decent contract extension for a backup – and he did well for himself playing in place of Peters last season when he was out – and you are predicting Molk (being toutued as the #2 center with Vand.. out with surgery) will step in – interesting you would want to move Hermanns around when in game 5 he will probably shift back..
Mixing it up a little, After Game 5, Herremans will be a Back-up and no longer a Starter.. Barbre is suits for Left Side and will be groomed to replace Mathis for 2015 Season as both Mathis & Herremans will released due to Age & Contracts… Dennis Kelly & Matt Tobin will get a shot at OT as well
Not concerned with Cooper at all…hes a #3 WR and I’m sticking to it. The rookie is better than Cooper! But Maclin injury issues concern me. Even though I believe the RB’s and TE’s will be much involved in the passing game, still need a WR to make plays.
Maclin will not play a Down in Preseason.. I saw this coming all Off-Season
He is saving his Legs for the Regular Season
Um… Oops sorry paulman but he has already played a few downs
MacLaine did not okay last week,
He’s out for Fridays game too..
Nooooooo!
There’s no concern?
I mean…..
That’s why you get rid of your top receiver knowing the next best player at the position is coming off a season ending injury.
The Cap is fine!!!!!!
With a surplus in finances under the cap and guys who “BUY IN” at the position, there’s little concern here.
I’m in for the Mariota pick so, I can really care less.
This season will be a disaster and yes …
The offense has regressed now the top playmaker at receiver is in D.C.
Who would have known?
top playmaker was LeSean McCoy – when did he get traded?
Songs thinks Barklay is the top QB. He is so inconsistent, its pathetic. The rookie
Matthews stunk up the joint against second and third stringers. Macklin is a weakling and has no chest. Cooper is a one time wonder. Shades of Andy Reid
player evaluation and justification. I watched the Redskins without Jackson and they had a couple of young standout receivers. Eagles may not win the division if they continue this sad play in the regular season.
I think we should take a break from the NFL for just a moment… I would like you so-called “talent evaluators” (Paul, GMCliff, et al) to answer one question:
— Who would you rather poke – Cecily Tynan or Ginger Zee?
Ginger dammit. LOL
Ginger PLEASE!!!
LOL!!! You’re a wild dude Irish Brother!!…..
I’m not sure who either is Bruh, call me ignorant?….Sorry Brothers I am guilty this time.,,,,
I’ll take Eva Mendez, or that chick Janine on House of Payne though…lol!!!
LOL
Irish, what about Sheena Parveen, or Nefertiti Jaquez?
Ginger!
Sheena Parveen
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
dag, you are so right. How could I have missed that one!!
Hahahahahahaha, good one Dag, love that response Greenfan!!!
Dag,
You always go outside the lines….
Sheena Parveen is a good answer, but she was not one of the two choices…But I’m glad you picked her and not Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz….. LOL
Okay – new game!
Savannah Guthrie, Natalie Morales or Erica Hill
dag, you got it 1st. LOL!!!!!
It’s fun to dream but be realistic. None of these women would give you the time of day,let alone sleep with you.
Cold shower, you!
What would be the response in Philly and by Eagles nation be if we took this guy in the first round? What would Chip say and do in response?

manziel
AP
Browns rookie Johnny Manziel reportedly got off to a bad start this week when he was late to work.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Manziel and some other rookies on the team were disciplined because they didn’t show up on time to a meeting on Monday morning.
“He and a few other rookies misread the schedule and they were, I think, fined for being a couple minutes late on Monday morning,” Mortensen said on Monday Night Countdown.
Mortensen added, however, that the Browns have generally been pleased with the work Manziel has done, including showing up to the team’s facility voluntarily on Sunday when the players weren’t required to be there following the Saturday night preseason opener. And Mortensen said Manziel’s tardiness was not a factor in the Browns’ decision to start Brian Hoyer for this week’s second preseason game.
Manziel may need to have a big game against Washington on Monday night if he’s going to unseat Hoyer. The Browns are expected to choose their Week One starter by the third game of the preseason.
That would be earth shattering EHL, could you just imagine WIP. LOL
Trying to figure out this roster is tough. If Momah continues to look solid do you eally put a 6’7″ WR with speed on your practive squad?? He won’t last past October! Worst case he needs to be on IR to protect the asset. Speaking of which, looks like Kruger doesn’t make it. Not really flashing. This 2013 draft class looks lamer all the time. Remember how with the exception of Westbrook and Foles, AR threw away third round picks? Chip’s specialty is becoming the fourth round. Barkley and Watkins are both pretty much mediocre and will never be NFL starters. This draft class is a lot better than last year. L Johnson and Ertz will be PB players, but the rest is crap. Which brings me to my biggest surprise cut. Earl Wolff who can’t stay healthy is cut in favor of keeping around someone like Momah, Travis Long or possbily B Bair.
In spite of 2013 class being pretty lame, I think the Eagles nailed it pretty well this year. M Smith is a more talented and athletic Barwin who gives you more pass rush. He will disappoint as a pass rusher overall however and probably won’t make PBs. I see him as an 8-10 sack guy down the line. A Maclin of OLBs without the health issues. Mathews will be a top ten WR in three years. Excellent possession WR. Not a true No. 1 in the explosive sense, but kind of a Chris Carter in the reception slash TD department without that scary game breaking potential (just as Carter lacked). Not saying he will be as good as CC. Just saying in that mold. It will be like 2009 where if you flip the order (Shady first, Maclin second), the picks look better. Huff wll eventually replace Avant as the slot man (when Maclin leaves after this year and Mathews moves outside) and be a top ten KR. Watkins is a “versatile” (meaning tweener) player who will never start at any position. That was one of Howie’s infamous “bloodline picks.” Like following the bloodline of a “system product” in Paul Kruger with Joe. How is he doing in Cleveland? Reynolds starts at safety eventually. I can see Allen and Reynolds oddly enough as the starting duo when the Eagles play in the SB down the road. Just a hunch. Jenkins is a place holder for two years. I don’t see this position as the Eagles big FA play to get over the hump. That will come at CB or OLB, not safety. Taylor Hart and Beau Allen will both start on the D line by 2016. They are classic 3-4 DL that I think were draft steals. Hart has been compared to Steeler great Aaron Smith and Logan is just too small to be a stud NT. Logan stays here for years as a rotation guy who can back up all three spots. But B Allen is your NT of the future. We will look back at this draft as very important to our first championship in fifty plus years. Think of it as the Steelers ’71 draft. Actually a lot more bountiful than the ’74 draft that gets all the pub because of the HOF’ers (both WRs highly questionable for that honor especially Swan’s paltry 366 catches).
Eagles 2016 starting SB defense:
DE-Taylor Hart
NT-Beau Allen
DE-Flecther Cox
OLB M Smith 2
ILB-Mychal Kndricks
ILB-seond day draft pick/mid-level FA
OLB-1st rd pick or big-time FA
CB-1st rd pick or big-time FA
S-Nate Allen
S-Ed Reynolds
CB-Brandon Boykin
What about the 2017 defending SB Champs starting defense Jbird? Or should I go to paulman for that. LMAO
Just having some fun BLion. Any constructive comments welcome.
I know Jbird, I like it, I don’t know about Reynolds or moving Boykins outside though. And I like the other Oregon guy better than Hart.
BLion…I know you don’t build a team of exceptions, but if Boykin is a PFF top five this year, you have to do it. Darell Green did ok at 5’8″ and there were big guys back then too. Boykin appears to be an exception. But this year will be the final proof. Hart will surprise you I think.
I think you’re reaching on Taylor Hart, and Ed Reynolds J……
Good to hear from you GM. Its a guess based on the fact I don’t think they value the position and I think Reynolds is a savvy kid from a football family. If you look around at SB rosters they are not all hgih picks so you have to project some low and late rounders and we only have two years to go. Hart was quite the scoop among the talking heads as draft day steal BEFORE the draft. One respected guy even compared him to Aaron Smith. He is a technician and a worker and knows Azzinaro and what he likes. I think Thornton is excellent but we won’t spend the money to keep him when we have to pay Cox, Kendricks, Boykin and most of all Foles.
Same here Good Brother…
I don’t see a player at all in Taylor Hart….I think everybody in the NFL, is looking for that proto typical JJ Watt guy. I saw 3 guys on the defense with his build, and body type, and I think Chip is guessing.
I like Chip Kelly’s innovation, but when he learns to move away from the Pac 12, especially his Oregon guys, he may find what he really needs more so than who he THINKS, may fit…..Hart, and Reynolds will struggle making the team, let alone start.
Chip Kelly has a crush on Taylor Hart based on the conversation the two of them had on draft day. No way he doesn’t make this team…he’s a lock. He looked ok last week. I will definitely be watching him tonight.
Eagles 2016 starting SB offense:
QB-Nick Foles
RB-Shady
WR-J Mathews
WR-J Huff
WR-I Momah
TE-Zach Ertz
LT-J Peters
LG-A Barbre
C-J Kelce
RG-second day draft pick
RT-L Johnson
With the slated starters of everyone but the regular season names of Maclin and Cooper, what is everyone thinking? The perfect spotlight to see what a 2nd and 3rd round draft choice can bring? See if a one time second rounder in Benn and a journeyman vet like Smith could do in the Chip Kelly offense? How about the size of the raw 2nd year Momah?
I won’t excuse or defene Foles if he is not sharp this eveneing. What I will take into cosideration is our QB is throwing to backups or sitaution players this evening. With that being said, how good are Cooper and Maclin that I should bypass any judgement on Foles.
If Foles is going to win games as a Eagle for years to come, he should certianly be able to get the most of the weapons he has on the football. He still has McCoy, Sproles, Celek, and Ertz.
I’m interested to see how tonight plays out. How the competitor in Foles looks when questioned…
The great QB’s in the past and the elite in today’s game make it work with whatever men take the battle field with them.
Jeff…the great Brady who has much more experience did not look all that sharp last year with his second rate talent. His worst season in a decade if I am not mistaken. You expect Foles to get it together with these guys in one game? He has Ertz and Celek though and Mathews needs to show up himself.
Also Jeff, I can’t find more info on Carroll’s injury. This concerns me because it is hard to wrestle away a job in weekly practices. If Caroll stays hurt and can’t show his chops, Fletcher wins the job by default and Carroll likely lost his shot to the detriment of the team. With Fletcher’s contract having no guaantees that create dead money, I think the Eagles would prefer to cut him and save the money while giving up that CB5 position to another roster spot. Of course, from what I have seen, I don’t trust Watkins as CB4 right now. Not any worse than Carmichael but the idea was to upgrade the unit. Not sure Carroll and Watkins for Fletcher and the Roc is an upgrade.
Injuries are adding up, quickly.. It was an area that played on our side last year, and has our WR 1&2, RB’s 3-5, and CB 4 out of the line-up.
Honestly Jeff the way preseason games are played now, I take nothing from them, just get through injury free and I’m happy. If Foles struggles no big deal he’s had 10 snaps of live fire. If he struggles into the Jags game, then we start to worry.
Expectations for tonite a good showing of foles Henry Josey should SE some action and produce with all the rb injuries first team oline actually show up tonite and play Matthews and Momah make some plays and dline get after the qb and brahman at linebacker really like him good athlete
I would not be surprised if Maclin sits out all
4 Preseason games, and Cooper play 1st Quarter
Do note that Chip Kelly does not follow regular “NFL Norms”
I expect most Starters to play a Half tonight in Game #2
And then he will shut most of them down for the remainder of Pre-Season which gives him a nice Edge leading into the Season
With little to no footage of the Starting WR’s for opposing Defenses
He will see Maclin & Cooper every day in Practice
And could be just another one of his “Genius Moves”
Cooper plays 1st Quarter next week (Game #3)
And not tonight
I still say this is most important Pre-Season Game of the 4 Games
I guess noone will be watching the game tonight since DJax isn’t playing for the Birds anymore. I mean why watch when the season was officially over the second he was cut.
If the Birds don’t win by at least 17pts tonight they are officially a shit team with ZERO chance to win a game this season?
Those are just 2 observations I have gathered from reading the posts on here. Even the REAL fans on the Texans site aren’t as negative as you FAKE fans on here!
Eagles go 10-6, win the division and make it to the NFC championship game this season!
don’t worry guys….these receivers “bought in” and fits comfortably under the cap.
the defense looks great!!!!
I’m glad the Eagles’s solved the secondaries communication problems with the monster signing of Malcolm Jenkins.
SongsRTrolls2….lmao stfu already
I don’t blame the players. This is Billy Davis fault. There is noway this defense should look like this. There is noway these players are this bad. There is noway they should of given up the 5th most yards in NFL history. Billy Davis has to answer for this
You cant be serious.
Agree with daggolden.
Difference between players in NFL is very, very minimal.
Thats ridiculous. If you think I guess you think Polk is almost as good as McCoy. Dumbest shit I have heard in a while.
It’s Billy Davis fault that Curtis Marsh cant cover and that two LBS covered the inside receiver and left the Hback wide open?
Sorry thats ridiculous
Marsh? Marsh? Marsh didn’t give up 800 yards passing a game last year. It was chung, no it was allen, no it was Williams, no it was fletcher. You cant blame all the players. You have to blame the system
Sorry thats nonsense. Last year is last year. If your focusing on last year still then why even watch this year. Just play all the games from last year over.
Thats WIP Hypebeast nonsense.
Billy Davis scheme stinks. Its embarrassing and its unacceptable.
Thats nonsense. You got all that from a preseason game with the 3rd and 4th string LB and corner in the game?
Come on.
Yikes. Without some backup, just signed, OT playing TE, it’d be 21 -0. D looks Swiss cheese.
Yikes. Without some backup, just signed, OT playing TE running the wrong route, it’d be 21 -0. D looks Swiss cheese.
Calm down they had Curtis Marsh on outside corner and the two biggest players were to his side.
This is a penalty fest no rhythm mismatch of players all over the field.
Well..
Just like i thought….
stack the box, dare Foles to beat ya over the top.
We’re in for a loooooong season folks.
SONGSRTROLLS2 BEING AN IDIOT AGAIN LMAO
Foles???????L
You talking about Foles?????
He’s 2 for 2?
Wtf are you talking about?
Loser
Worst team in NFL history! Cut them all!
There I saved all you FAKE fans time by posting for you’s. This game is indicative of how the team will play all season.
Curtis Marsh is Billy Davis fault too for that last pass right? LMAO
This game is freekin useless (at least on o)
What have we had?
Foles completion….fumble
Foles completion
2 McCoy runs
Are we going to see O starters into the 3rd?
Otherwise, we’ve learned nothing about the O….annoying.
Lmao oh man the hypebeasts on here that will disappear or backtrack or talk differently if the team starts off fast will be incredible.
The biggest hypebeasts I have ever read on here at times. Its game 2 of the fucking preseason.
And this is why Brandon Boykin does not play outside CB..
He cannot play outside the hash marks and is much better playing in the slot in small right spaces..
No Paul its the regime thinking they know more than GCobb posters lmao.
I guess Brandon Boykins holding is Billy Davis fault. and Curtis Marsh getting toasted is Billy Davis fault. LMAO GTFOH
I guess we should use that philosophy for every coach in every sport. Its not there fault there team sucks. Hes not the pitcher, the coach didn’t tell Romo to throw that pass. If that was the case no coaches would ever get fired.
Yeah I guess we should rehash previous seasons when watching game 2 of preseason with a complete different set of players and no real outcome meaning. I mean yeah that makes a ton of sense.
I mean when I coach and Im scouting my yungns and they are getting beat one on one basic drills in what is pretty much just a scrimmage yeah its because of the coaching.
Eagles are getting manhandled along the LOS on both sides of the ball
And do not look like a Playoff Caliber Team to me.. Looks like a long season
You too? LMAO this should be called GWIP.COM
LMAO
The happiest guy on the field is Roc Carmichael….everybody will forget his atrocious game from last week with Curtis Marsh looking ABYSMAL. We know where we will have to roster cuts in a few weeks.
Hey Billy Davis can tell us about “progress” in his press conference.
I will turn WIP on after the game so you can repeat the hypebeasting lol
You can caqll in and tell the whole deleware valley how the eagles looked good and how nothing matters. We can pretend that they looked great. Oh yeah were not allowed to voice what we see. tabu. lol
Yeah and we can go over the top and make pessimistic assumptions that make no damn sense.
Lmao I mean yeah in scrimmage where your reviewing depth at positions lets call a better scheme so we dont exposed our 3rd 4th CB in man to man coverage. Lets blame the coach on a guy not having inside leverage and shiedling a WR who runs an inside pass route to the back of the endzone.
I mean because player evaluation is not the top priority right now.
Its because of what happened last year. LMAO gtfoh
Eagles also need a kicker poste haste
I mean according to you, last year is why Curtis Marsh is getting exploited one on one. I mean youre right its defense philosophy. No one who knows anything about football doesnt see that they have primarily been in man the entire game.
You can slice it anyway you want. The defense sucks.
OMG fire everyone! They blocked the punt but didn’t return it for a TD…….this team sucks!!!!! Celek’s helmet came off…that mean he can’t play!
Come on all you FAKE ass fans, start bitching so we cann see how stupid you guy’s are!
Cut Ertz, he didn’t break the tackle. DJax would have smoked that DB!!!!
DB technique 101 if you have inside coverage on the wr and they run anything inside the endzone is your safety help.
But yeah that was Billy Davis fault for not scheming up man to man wr coverage to the third option on a route.
LMAO GWIP.COM
5th most passing yards in NFL history. NFL Almanac
You still talking about last year?
What do you want for that astute observation? I already know this?
Until they play real games I can give shit about last year. Its like saying since last years offense was awesome we real repeat that this year. I dont know that nor am I saying it.
Again last year and preseason game 2 are nowhere on the same comparison school. Thats nonsense.
First off Refs have been ruining the game both ways. Touchy illegal contact calls weak hands to the face call.
I like Mohma’s size and he has nice hands, after the fumble he came right back and made a tough grab. He can really block on the outside too. Foles threw a horrible pass to him that he would have scored on
No more Andy Reid players from his dog years please! Marsh is playing just like his early Tutor Namdi in position but can’t make a play on the ball
Foles gets happy feet soon as the rush gets behind him he is better off standing tall than trying to roll out bc the strip sack is coming.
Baue Allen is a stud he is even getting pass rush sold!
Marcus Smith looks pretty good for a guy with limited experience
Finally a realistic post. Spot on.
Most QBs get the happy feet but I see your point on Foles. Your first point is spot on. How do you get pacing when theres nothing but flags. Penalties will destroy this offense because of the timing etc. Last drive he looked good.
Matthews looks a bit overwhelmed still. I think he is trying waaaaaay to hard to live up to the hype.
Mathews needs to relax the plays will come. 8 Refs smh im all for inclusion but a female ref? she looks in her 30’s you can’t even find a young male ref they make you ref so many games before you go pro. Shouldn’t you have some playing experience too idk maybe she does but seems like a public relations move I blame Ray Rice
oh and to continue with Alex Henry when you already know he is terrible is Chip Kelly’s fault. I won’t be mad at Henry this year
Looks like we’re setting up for a 2 min drill for the birds. Something Important!
Alright….Eagles going to get ball under 2 mins with 2 timeouts……will be interesting to watch.
We have yet to see anything designed for Sproles and 2 backfield sets with Sproles and McCoy.
Game 1 is going to be a trip. Kelly is brewing up some shit and its beyond obvious.
