Thoughts From Eagles-Patriots

foels4Positives In A Sea Of Ugly

This was preseason football at its worst.

But through the sloppy play there were some nice positives to take from this game.

Most of all was that Nick Foles looked much more settled in his second start.

Foles went 8/10 for 81 yards and a touchdown. He was much more decisive with his throws, and his decision making was sound, as he was often able to find the open man. It was a bounce-back effort that we’ve come to expect from him. Foles has been known to not let poor performances drag him down or carry over, and this game was no exception.

Jordan Matthews shook off a shaky debut to grab nine passes for 104 yards, and made some key grabs that helped move the chains on several of the Eagles’ scoring drives.

A longshot by the name of Henry Josey took advantage of his opportunity to play extended snaps, and looked great. Josey rushed for 56 yards on eight carries, and looked quick and decisive when running the ball. Josey hit the holes quickly, and flashed some great explosvieness.

Josey was also effective as a receiver, taking a screen pass 27 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. In a crowded running back field, Josey really made himself stand out tonight.

Worst Of The Night

Plain and simple, there were way too many turnovers. And at least three of these were careless turnovers that could have been easily avoided with more focus. Ifeanyi Momah, Jeff Maehl, and Damaris Johnson each found a way to carelessly cough up the football. There’s no excuse for this to happen to three guys that are fringe players and have opportunities to make a team.

Curtis Marsh might have had the worst night an Eagle has had in years. Marsh was abused by the Patriots starters and backups, getting burned for three touchdowns and several penalties.

The Eagles also suffered a rash of injuries early and often in this game. Cary Williams, Brandon Boykin, and Josh Huff all went down for the game in the first half, adding their names to an already long injury report that the Eagles have piled up.

Quick Thoughts

Offense

  • Ifeanyi Momah is blowing his chance to make this team. On the Eagles’ first offensive snap (which didn’t come until late in the first quarter), Momah caught a pass from Nick Foles, but quickly fumbled the ball away.
  • Allan Barbre missed a block on Rob Ninkovich, leading to a sack and the end of the Eagles’ second possession.
  • LeSean McCoy doesn’t need to get five touches or more in a preseason game. Just saying, Chip, don’t waste McCoy’s valuable energy/carries in a meaningless situation. I get that the Eagles were extremely shorthanded at running back with both Chris Polk and Matt Tucker out, but there’s no way I’d ever give the franchise running back more than a cameo in any preseason action.
  • Brent Celek made a tough catch in the second quarter, pulling down a pass and taking some tough contact to get the Eagles in the redzone. Its amazing to me that with as flag-happy as the officials have been this preseason that they didn’t flag New England for a hit on a defenseless receiver.
  • Mark Sanchez enjoyed another solid appearance, giving the team an instant spark when he arrived in the game. Sanchez quickly drove the team down the field for a touchdown before the half. Sanchez then bounced back from a turnover in the second half and drove the team 80-yards for a score. He’s clearly head and shoulders above Matt Barkley for the backup job.
  • Arrelious Benn made a tremendous heads up play in the redzone, adjusting and catching a dropped pass by Ifeanyi Momah at the end of the first half for a touchdown.
  • Jeff Maehl lost a fumble in the third quarter.
  • Damaris Johnson dropped a catchable pass from Matt Barkley in the third that turned into an interception.
  • In spite of some really poor moments, Johnson also had some really bright moments. He caught a touchdown pass from Sanchez in the second half, and showed some nifty moves with the ball in space.
  • Four straight running plays to Damaris Johnson on the goalline? Well, I guess its not as ridiculous as the Ronnie Brown halfback option.

Defense

  • Mychal Kendricks broke through to stop Stevan Ridley for a loss on the second play of the game. Kendricks blew right by Logan Mankins, and made the play behind the line of scrimmage.
  • Damion Square got some more snaps with the first team at nose tackle, and was pushed around by the Patriots’ offensive line.
  • Cary Williams took advantage of a miscommunication between Tom Brady and a receiver to come up with an interception that he ran back for a score. Williams, however, pulled his hamstring on the play and did not return.
  • Terrible game for Curtis Marsh. The former third-round pick was called for holding penalty, and then a pass-interference call that set up New England in the redzone, and then gave up a touchdown to Kenbrell Thompkins. Marsh gave up another touchdown in the second quarter, allowing a ball to go through his hands and into a New England receiver’s.
  • Marsh was victimized again for a third touchdown in the third quarter.
  • Beau Allen had a quarterback hurry on Jimmy Garapolo in the first half.
  • Earl Wolff made a nice play in the second quarter, knocking down a pass after coming in on a safety blitz.
  • Vinny Curry just continues to state his case for extended playing time. Curry was once again incredibly active, and was easily the team’s most effective pass rusher.

Special Teams

  • Alex Henery missed a 45-yard kick in the second quarter. He also looked shaky on an extra-point attempt.
  • Arrelious Benn had a great effort in the second quarter, fighting through a block and blocking a punt to set up the offense with excellent field position.
  • Damaris Johnson made a poor decision at the end of the first half to try and return a punt. Johnson, desperate to do whatever he can to make this team, fielded a punt with a gunner closing in on him and was nearly crushed. Johnson managed to avoid the tackler, but gained minimal yards on the play. All he needs to do in that situation is call for the fair catch.
  • Josh Huff suffered a shoulder injury in the first half on a kickoff return, and didn’t return.

Final Thoughts

Over the next few weeks, its going to be very interesting to see how certain roster battles shake out.

Henry Josey put Chris Polk and Matthew Tucker on notice tonight. You can’t make the club in the tub, and these two need to get back and show something quick or the undrafted rookie could take a spot from either of them.

Arrelious Benn proved his worth tonight as a special teamer, but we need to see more looks for him as a receiver.

Hopefully next week the Eagles get a little healthier, and starting wideouts Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin can take the field together for the first time all preseason and give the Eagles a look at their first-team offense at full power. I don’t like the idea of the Eagles possibly going into the start of the regular season without any significant reps for their top two wideouts.

About what I expected..
I believe Josey was nicked up late in the game which is why
Damarus Johnson received 4 straight hand-offs..
I believe he pulled a hamstring earlier in the 4th
Why not at least have a TE lead block for D Johnson on a couple of those runs as DJ does not that much experierence or size
Maybe TE Casry or even Trey Burton or
Emil Igwenagu.. Strange Play Calls to say
The least . I watched on NFL Channel with horrible
Patriot local announcers who knew very little of Eagles Pkayers
Just a terribly Okficiated game, played game
And called game.. If the BFL continues with this garbage of penalties on every play, I won’t watch !!!!

I did think Brandon Graham played well
Rookie Marcus Smith needs to add bulk and strength as he was pushed around
A bit.. Safety Play was poor outside of Nate Allen…
I don’t like what I see with Malcolm Jenkins or Earl Wolff
Rat A Vargre is not very good at RT and would rather see Dennis Kelly
Get some reps there..
Lots of issues with CB’s (Boykin is a Slot/Nickle CB only)
Marsh & Roc Carmichael are not NFL CB’s at all..
Watkins not ready..
Momah,Maehl,Murphy are not NFL WR’s
I like BJ Cunningham upside more than these guys
Brad Smith has done very little in my opinion
Benn showed some energy tonight
I do like RB Josey very much but with McCoy & Sproles already,
They heed a bigger 225lb bruiser which they don’t have since Polk is continually hurt…

OLB’s and DE’s showed very little outside of Bair & Graham

Defense has given up almost 1,000 yards of Offense in 2 Games
Offense has had 7 Thrnovers in 2 Games

Team is a 4-5-6 Win Team at best with they way they are executing

Did you see the 47 yrd attempt?

Anyway, his first kickoff was fine, but the the second landed at the 10…pathetic.

The 47 yrd fg attempt was….well…..pathetic. I mean, watching, you knew it was wide as he kicked it…if a guy is going to miss, at least give am a second of hope, you know? This kick was done before it left his foot.

Eagles need a kicker.

Everyone does realize it’s the pre-season right? The Birds haven’t game planned or ran their offense yet. They are playing practice squad WR’s for the most part, so how can you honestly grade the offense? The OL will be fine, relax people.

The missed FG is solely on Henery, but until a better kicker is released (which won’t happen) he is the kicker.

The defense hasn’t been good at all, but I believe some of it is bc they aren’t game planning. They are the same defense that helped the team go 7-1 over the last 8 games. They held 7 opponents to lees then 22pts, so I’ll cut them a little slack.

paulman…..I better not you signing the teams praise at any point! 4-6 wins?! Really?! Dude you have become a fair weather fan, smh.

I am not a Fair-Weather Fan, just calling like it is…
2 Games in and I am not impressed with the Eagles in most areas..
I look around the other Teams in the NFC and see Teams that have improved
and the Eagles are not 1 of them…
2-3 additions to the Secondary in Malcolm Jenkins and Nolan Carroll, who can’t get on the field..
DL still with no consistent pass-rush
A Defense giving up a lot of yards in Running Game
And can’t get off the field on 3rd Down..
The only silver lining is that Eagles play in a weak NFC
East but they are not contending with the Top
5-6-7 Teams in the NFC from what I see thus far
WR Jordan Matthews looks great last evening,
Ertz,Celek & even Casey looked good

1st Unit OL was so-so at Best..
If Eagles can’t run the ball effectively,
They will big down and settle for a lot of FG’s
This year and with this Defense, which cannot stop anyone,
They will lose many shoot-outs..
They are getting killed on Time of Possession and
The DL & Secondary get pooped out being on the field for
35-38 Minutes a game.. The strong Teams will pound at them late in games
Keeping the Eagles O off the field…

If I remember correctly, they got outplayed last pre-season too and had a fine season.
Teams go 4-0 or 0-4 every year in the pre-season and then the total opposite in the regular season.
As “horrible” as they have played, they have lost by 3 and 7 pts. Shady and Sproles. who will be a huge part of the offense, have less then 20 touches combined….more touches will make a HUGE difference.

I would like all you fair weather fans to post a team with details that is stacked top to bottom at every position on the team. Good luck with that. Every team has weaknesses, and I know for a fact that if the Eagles were stacked at WR and OL you guy’s would be bitching how they aren’t stacked at Long Snapper and Punter.

Iggy27,
Preseason matchup a are basically about the
1 on 1 match ups as no Teams are scheming, game planning yet and so far in 2 Pre-Season games the Eagles are not faring well..

RT Barbre is failing at RT in maintaing & holding blocks
WR Momah, Smith & D Johnson can’t get open

On Defense
Boynkin, Carmichael, & Marsh cannot cover out on space
No 2nd Safety has stepped up .. Nate Alken is the best Safety on this Team hands down.. Malcolm Jenkins & Earl Wolff
Have disappointed in my opinion

DE Bair is holding his own
DT Allen is making plays and getting penetration
Pass Rushers Curry & Graham are looking good and getting
To the backfield

Seen very little from Cole & Barwin versus 1st Units

Kicker Henery looks shaky
QB Sanchez looks very good
RB Tucker & Josey look good
WR Matthews looks good and all 3 TE’s
(Celek,Ertz & even Casey look in mid-Season form)
I’m not worried about McCoy & Sproles who will be ready
But Evan Mathis looks shaky, Peters always starts a little slow
But Barbre looks overmatched
Back-up OL Kelly,Tobin & Molk all look good
Lane Johnson looks good, though he will miss 4 games

The rest have a lot of catching up

Cooper & Maclin aren’t getting the reps
Fletcher & Carroll aren’t getting the reps with and
Polk has been MIA so yes, I am concerned
About the start of this Season

“The OL will be fine, relax people.”

There’s no real evidence of that.

“Everyone does realize it’s the pre-season right?”

You’re the type of guy will be saying that game 5 into the season. “It’s only game 5 there’s still 11 more to play.” lol

Even in pre-season a team should look more put together. There’s a very small chance Maclin stays healthy this year. Cooper is not a barn burner. I have every expectation many of the planned screen passes the Eagles like to run to be blown up by better defenses (ex. Wilfork on Sproles tonite) SO there is a good chance some of those “scrub” WR are going to be on the team at some point doing the year.

Wide receiver and oline depth are a problem as has already been mentioned.

The only person mentioning DeSean is you.

I spoke about Oine and wide receiver depth on the Eagles squad. Which is an issue.

Cooper isn’t fast actually…but it’s less about him being fast, he’s just not a #1 or even #2 receiver. Maclin is likely to be out at some point so that leaves a rookie and cooper basically.

But okay. The Eagles wide receiving corps is just fine. The last two games have shown us that.

This team won last year with Cooper as our #2 and DJax who is a #2 WR on another team as the #1. Then they had NOTHING after those 2. This year Maclin is the #1, Cooper #2, and Matthews #3…..a better core then last year. When Maclin misses a game everyone moves up a spot and they move Sproles in to the slot. Again better then last year.

I do believe the OL is exactly the same as last year except adding Molk…..OL was considered the best in the NFL last season. So the problem is?

The problem with the team is the Def and Kicker. I believe the bad Kicker is huge bc it will make Chip call plays differently when in FG range. Take more chances, hoping to not have to attempt a FG.

TS…have you ever seen the frame change on a modern movie? They change about once every 4hundredths of a second.

You don’t see the frames change because the human eye cannot perceive that minuscule amount of time.

I only bring this up because Jordan Matthews was 4hundreths of a second faster than Cooper in the 40. Again, pretty much unperceivable to the human eye.

So he isn’t a barn burner either. Maclin is a whopping 5hundreths of a second faster….so does that put him in the burner category?

It’s to early bro…he is good against the pass and can play the run, that was demonstrated last week. He needs a year to get stronger and develop pass rush moves and technique. Khalil Mack was taken by the Raiders as an early number 1 pick, #5 to be exact, he is struggling getting off blocks, getting to QB and playing the run. Reporters in Oakland are concerned about his lack of performance and are questioning the pick now. Anthony Barr, selected by the Vikings , round 1, pick # 8, is struggling against the run, these guys must have time to develop. Mean while, Beau Allen, a 7th round pick is playing like he should have been drafted in the second round. Louis Nix was drafted in the 3rd and hasn’t done squat.

Smith had some Mamula’s last night (pressures) that forced Mallet out of pocket, no one was there for containment though. Chip spoke about that. He showed speed to get around the edge on two pressures, he has to learn counter moves. He will be fine. His strengths now are setting the edge, playing the pass in open space and tackling vs the run. Patience, the pass rush will come. Last year people were concerned about Zach Ertz dropping the ball in preseason, you don’t even think about that now as that has been forgotten by his early critics and detractors….they are all quiet now…in church mouse mode!

I think M Smith looked pretty good last evening but definitely pooped out as the game and his snaps went on which is common
For Rookies.. He just needs sonme time, experience and add sone strength & bulk.. Year 1 for him will be more situational and probably get 15-20 Snaps a game but I think he has sone good upside
And about what you can expect from a late 1st Rounder (26th Pick)
Any of you guys who think that a #26th Pick is going to cone in and dominate in Year 1 don’t understand Football very well
I think he will develop into a very good player for the next 6-8 years but he will have a learning curve in year 1 as 99% of all Rookies do regardless of where they are Selected.

I love you guys that attack people just because they don’t necessary agree with them. This time of year most real football people are on the field not behind a computer trying to be general managers on G. Cobb every moment of the day. I think that a 1st round picks should be either be close to starting or starting their first year if they going be a player in the NFL. Most of what I saw was late in the 3rd quarter and in the 4th quarter. That means that Smith was going up against players that are in the same situation that he is in. He couldn’t get off of blocks, took bad angles to ball and lost backside containment which led to a long run something he should have learned in high school. To be fair it’s very early and Smith could be player but based on last night he is not close to starting.

dtime, a hand full of first round picks are ballin this pre season, most are trying to get acclimated, in Sammy Watkins first two games, he had zero catches despite playing a ton of snaps. Watkins will be a stud though. Do not equate first rounder with automatic impact player, it’s not based in reality. Coaches an GM’s will back that up, Chip already stated that at the beginning of camp.

dtime he has been unimpressive thus far. So you are not out of bounds for pointing out how bad he has looked. I think many of thus that defended this pick from the outset are just annoyed that some of the obvious has been pointed out. But I do believe he has to be given the benefit of the rookie learning curve. If he was a true !st round pick (which I still believe he isn’t) then I’d be more concerned. But he may come around like #81 with a lil more patience.

For those who thought I over reacted to the play of Smith on Friday you were right. It’s very early and there is plenty of time for him to improve.
With that being said I when back and looked at Smith play and he was as bad as I said he was. Number 71 a 4th round pick from Stanford beat him up pretty badly. I also noticed that he was on the field for the last play of the game a privilege for free agents and players that are not going to make the team.
I also notice from reviewing the list of 1st round picks that people have provided that EVERY pick that did not start at least some of the games their first year turned out to be a bust.

I agree with everything you just said, except one position.

The Eagles do not have an NFL kicker on their roster, and it needs to be addressed poste haste, or else it’s going to cost them a game.

When they rolled out the unit for the 47 yarder I said to myself, “he can’t make this.”. And it wasn’t even close. The guy cannot be trusted past 45 yards (I’m being generous)

The first kickoff was nice, into the back of the Ez, but then it was a 10 yrd line fest.

This is a huge issue thatnisn’t being discussed at all, and it’s going to cost the birds a game.

This Article can be found on NBC Sports…Titled Khalil Mack Has Another Quiet Night.

He was the #5 overall pick and considered the #1 overall OLB coming out of the draft….he’s getting hammered due to his lack of production and invisibility against the 1st and 2nd string opponents.

OAKLAND – Khalil Mack bull rushed his way into the pocket, broke to the inside and brought Detroit Lions quarterback Kellen Moore down.

The outside linebacker’s first professional sack attracted little fanfare, in essence deserving just partial credit for coming against the Lions’ third string. The No. 5 overall pick stopped a rusher with similar moves on the next play, concluding a productive outburst that’s been rare this preseason.

Those were his only two tackles from Friday’s 27-26 victory over the Detroit Lions at O.co Coliseum. In the first half, against guys who will survive to see the regular season, Mack was invisible.

He was similarly cloaked a week ago in Minnesota when he had just two tackles despite playing deeper into games than his fellow starters. It wasn’t just stats. He was late to recognize and adjust to opponent attacks, leaving him unable to help more on defense.

Friday’s effort was a bit better.

“There wasn’t a ton of production from a standpoint of tackles or assists or sacks or whatever the case may be, but I thought he made improvement from where he was at last week,” head coach Dennis Allen said. “We’ll have plenty more opportunities to do different things and give him maybe a little bit more involved early in the game. He wasn’t playing in the nickel. … Really early in the game he was really limited as far as the snaps that he took. But Khalil Mack is going to be just fine.”

While he wasn’t involved in the first-team nickel defense, Allen said he would be part of that unit in the regular season.

For the time being, the Raiders are playing Mack more than most, regardless of personnel package, in effort to aid his progress.

“The only way you can get better is to get experience,” Allen said. “I know he was a high draft choice, but he needs to play and that’s the only way he’s going to get better. So I don’t know exactly what the rep count was but it was probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 plays or so, which is about where we wanted him to be

I agree, my point is just that people gotta relax, Smith played well last week…he’s a #26 pick overall and a work in progress. If Mack, the #5 overall is struggling, I can only imagine what we would be saying about him on GCOBB if that was our pick with the # 5 selection. He would already be a bust and run out of town. Howie and Chip would be frauds and don’t know talent etc.

Smith II os an athlete and he has some instincts. If he can learn his craft and gain NFL muscle b y end of next off season I think he was worth a number one pick. Besides I still say we did well with Smith and Matthews in round 1 and 2 and I don’t care about the order. (I think the team got better for the future and that is the point.)

It’s probably the poor Coaching from the Raiders
That Mack is underachieving for GMCliff is rarely ever wrong about

Paul, are you still trying to undermine me?? ….and you’re correct, I am rarely wrong

….I don’t guarantee, nor state can’t miss, but I do think Khalil Mack will be a good player.

I actually like the fact that he is struggling with the Raiders, because when his rookie deal is up, he is perfect in the Eagles Defense…

Please….Don’t act like I don’t have a clue…. I bet you would love Jamie Collins in the Middle next to Ryans, or Kendricks right now wouldn’t you Paul??…..Dontari Poe?…..Larry Worford?….Justin Houston?…..Kelechi Osemele?….DJ Fluker?…Ziggy Ansah?….Sheldon Richardson?…..Star Lotululei?……

If memory serves me correct, some of them started out slow, and you were critical of them as well, but they came around, and one played as a starter in the Super Bowl….Hmmmm…..

Some of the Eagles biggest weaknesses wouldn’t be so weak would they, if the Eagles consulted GMCliff ……huh??

Derrick Coleman is a bad example talorrandy. His problem was his bad attitude and questionable work ethic. His talent was never questioned. Arguably the most skilled 4 in the game when he played. Mathews has a great work ethic and by all accounts is a great “character guy”; BUT HE STINKS AND CAN’T PLAY.

Besides the nutcase Andrews not a friggin pro bowler in sight..You have to go back to McNabb going on 20 years ago for the last 1st round impact player. Unbelievable. I don’t want to hear about Lito, he was never better than Sheldon Brown. Now the 2nd round for the Eagles has been gold but the 1st round has been garbage.

All Im asking for is 1 stud perennial pro bowl 1st round player every 7-10 years. A Ray Lewis a Dez Bryant a Aldon Smith a Earl Thomas(oops) a Tyrone Smth. That’s it. Once every 7-10 years. The rest of there draft is great IMO. Just that 1st round thing is killing us IMO.

That list depresses me. Especially when you add the following:

1997 Jon Harris (possibly the worst 1st round pick ever)
1995 Mike Mamula
1994 Bernard Williams
1993 Lester Holmes
1991 Antone Davis
1990 Ben Smith

Ben Smith was a very talented defensive back. A terrible injury early in his career (2nd or 3rd) doomed him. His impact was instant his rookie year. Fitting right in with an already murderous defense. He does not belong on that list.

Fletcher Cox is lazy and takes plays off. He seems to have no stamina. Our #1
drafts choice seems overmatched in strength and speed. I failed to see his “Raw” talent. The.kicker is bad. He misses too many field goals. Boykin is no corner at all. No pass rush whatsoever except from Curry who has a motor Cox need to get a hold of. The defense is atrocious giving up close to 50 points.
All these upbeat practices new wave training methods seem to be wasted on this bunch of slackers.

Iggles he needs to play inside, really doesn’t matter though without a pass rush he’ll look bad wherever he plays inside or out, that is why I question the Smith pick and Curry not being on the field. If the one thing Smith does really well is rush the passer let him do that, and put together a scheme where Curry is on the field second and third and long.

I agree EHL that caressing will only go as far as their OL
Progresses, they did Draft a Promising Guard and RT
This Draft to go along with beast LT T Williams
But as far as Skill playmakers and multiple playmakers
And QB-Friendly system which should help RG3
Rebound with a decent year should have them competing as far as Offensive Stats go as middle of the pack in the NFC
Which is where I see the Eagles Offense kind of at..

After checking on last years Eagles, they were very fortunate to
Finish 10-6..
1) they won 2 games they had no business winning
Arizona Cardinals and yes the Snow Game that Fetroit hand gifted to the Eagles with 2 fumbles within the 5 yard line where Lions would have outvtge game away early
2) they beat the Packers without Asron Rodgers,
In fact back up QB Scott Tholzirn was shredding
The Eagles until he got hurt and was replaced by
Matt Flynn who was in Toen for a week..
3) Beat the Cowboys the final week without Romo
And barely got out with a 2 Pt Win over QB Orton who hadn’t played
In 2 years…
4) Made Matt Casell look like a HOF when they got thumped by the Vikings…
5) Pkayed and Beat Redskins in week #1
Vs RG3 who hadn’t seen live action in 9 months and had no business even playing

When you break down the 10-6 Record,
The Eagles could have very well been 7-9 or worse
The played in one of weakest Divisions last year where
The Redskiba imploding and Giants started out 0-6 and were already out of it.. I believe god Teams make there own good fortune which the Eagles did, they were relatively injury free outside of Maclin which is almost unheard of and very unlikely to occur again..
I like FG’s direction the Eagles are going, but looking around the NFC,
There is no way they are a Top 6 Team and are clearly behind
The Elite Teams of Seahawks,Packers, 49ers, Saints and in my opinion
Have fallen behind the Cardinals,Bears, and are more on
Par with 3rd Tier NFC Teams of the Lions,Panthers,Giants,Falcons

You could go through every teams record and do the same thing. A play here or an injury there. How about looking at it like this……the Eagles won when they had the chance to, and did enough to win those games. No one handed them anything, they played and earned the victories.

As far as falling behind the Cardinals….they have a weak OL, Larry Fitz is on the down side, no TE, and C Palmer as their QB. Not exactly a SB caliber team.
The Bears gave up 28 pts to the “weak” Eagles offense so their defense isn’t that great. Who plays QB when Cutler get hurts, bc he misses time every year?

The Eagles are no threat to win the SB, but they are far from a 6-10 or 7-9 team. I fail to see how their offense has become one of the worst in the league like you say.

I said the Eagles are a middle of the Pack Offense in the NFC in 2014
Bears Starters stop Eagle Starters when 1st Units
Were playing… And with Eagles with still having a Poor Defense
It will be very difficult to Win 10 Games come 2014
So a 7-8 Win Season is very likely..

With the new Rules that enhance the Passing game even more
Make the Eagles more vulnerable with their pass defense since they really didn’t improve the Pass Rush or their Secondary
And without D-Jax, an injured and brittle Maclin and a hobbled
Cooper the Eagles own passing game is weaker and won’t be able to take advantage of these new rules as other Teams can
Coach Kelly picked a bad time to try to implement a Power running scheme Offense when rules are geared for more passing.
And the bend but don’t break Defensive Schemes do not put enough pressure on opposing QB’s & Receivers of the opponents

Top Worst Draft Picks of 2014 1st Round
In Terms of their Rookie impact and where they were selected
I am sure sone of these Players will become good PlYers but all
10 have gotten off to very slow & poor starts with their Teams
And whispers are going around some Front Offices on whether they made sone big mistakes with sone of these Selectiobs

1) 4th Pick WR Sammy Watkins – Bills
2) 5th Pick LB Khalil Mack – Raiders
3) 6th Pick LT J Marthews – Falcons
4) 8th Pick CB J Gilbert – Browns
5) 10th Pick TE Eric Ebron – Lions
6) 12th Pick WR Odell Beckham – Giants
7) 18th Pick Safety Calvin Pryor – Jets
8) 19th Pick OT Juwan James – Dolphins
9) 23rd Pick DE/LB Dee Ford – Chiefs
10) 29th Pick DT Dominique Easley – Pats

There are a few of these Players injured which
1/2 the Preseason & Camp gone already is not their fault,
But when looking at who is most likely not going to contribute much of be way behind due to injuries then this thic list I came up with
Injuries have slowed up Beckham,Pryor & Easly where
Beckham & Easley have not even practiced much nor have they Pjayer in any preseason action. Pryor sustained a severe concussion on first day of Jets Practive and may play next week, being a heavy hitter and getting a severed head injury probably does not bode well for him
Long term…

The other 7 Pkayers simply are struggling to pick up
Play books, Techniques or are just not focused enough
and are struggling even as back-ups
OT J Matthews is starting for Falcons but has given up
3 Sacks in first 2 Games, multiple penalties and just getting beat
Off the ball…
OT is Starting at RT for Dolphins due to necessity
And is struggling with the Soeed of the game and proper Technique
WR Watkins may be the most disappointing so far as it appears that he and QB EJ Manuel & HC Marrone are not on the same page and there has been rumblings already in Buffalo on how Marrone handles Young Players at the NFL
Level… Safety Jarius Byrd wanted out,
WR Steven Johnson wanted out & now RB
CJ Spiller is on the way out (Probably to St Loyis Rams who just load RB I Peade to a Season ending injury..)
Marrone & Staff will probably be gone after the New Ownership comes in a cleans house and there are reports that Samny Watkins did not wNt go to Buffalo to begin with…

Johnny Manziel states during an interview today that if the Browns vs Steelers game were today he would not be ready. He admits to having trouble learning the terminology…in short he is struggling with the verbage and translating the playbook into action on the field. This is a processing problem, or he just is not studying the playbook enough. To lazy to do that and perhaps partying to much instead of getting into playbook. LOL….he was also late to a team meeting. But yet, some (Songs and kool) wanted him as a first round Eagles pick for QB of the here and now. Like I stated, what he did in college…free lancing would not work in the pros where the offense is a structured system governed by rules and terminology, you can’t run around like a chicken with your head cut off. Chip knew this, that’s why he said no thanks to Johnny football.

Trust me, you can’t hurt my feelings ma’am……I’m just stating the obvious that Manziel is no worse a player then any other rookie and that your reasoning for saying he is, is just plain stupid. To further prove my point that being late for a meeting doesn’t make you a bad player……DJax was on time for every meeting his rookie season and yet at some point his rookie year, maybe 2nd year was running in for a TD against Dallas and dropped the ball before he crossed the goal line. Remember that? So how you act off the field has no bearing how you play. Either you can play or you can’t. Either you play the game right or you don’t.
Just remember I said Manziel will be a very good player in this league.
EHL……..TIME TO PUT YOUR BIG BOY PANTS ON!!!!!!!

I am looking to hire a couple of scouts to scout the teams my 9-10 yrs old will be playing this season. EHL, know anyone that could qualify? Means they have to be able to know football…..

Gigglessb27 What a weak, trite response. The flipping burgers line, ma’am, ladies, lol seriously dude, you bore me….zzzzzz. Thanks for respecting me enough to feel the need to explain yourself though and tell me your present life story. However, I could care less, like you say, this is for men, I am not interested in your excuses . LMAO, ma’am and ladies, if that’s the best you got you have nothing and are a flat out joke. Just know….I am lmao at you. Kick rocks dude, you’re not worthy of responding to me nor will I waist my time reading your weak ass posts as you bring forth no, and I mean no original thought. You simply hack and troll….that would be an excellent moniker for you. Hack and troll. Well, I’m going to let you get back to work, I’m sure some one needs help in aisle 3 in the plumbing section at your new job at Home Depot. All kidding aside, more mature people huh? Go back and check out how you was trolling and treating GM Cliff when you came on here…yeah, that’s real mature. I lost respect for you right then and there as you acted like an ass on here trying to make a name for yourself by being disrespectful, but you were to stupid to realize you were trying to clown someone on here G.COBBers respect. You haven’t been here long enough to talk trash, you didn’t even know who the flip flop king is, yet you kissed his ass. Simply put, you played yourself from the start. LMAO at you, you are the new joke of GCOBB. Have a nice day Hack and Troll! Oh, that customer is still waiting for you in aisle 3. LMAO……..seriously what is Home Depot? Is that where you hang all day begging for change?
I’ll give gmcliff all the credit in the world, he took it and dished it out. He never cried or went running to his mommy like you have. He may not be the best at bantering but at least he is fun to banter with. He at least takes the time to research football points and not just babble about being late makes a player a bust. Guess I better cut the best RB/LB on my team bc the other night he was 10 mins late, thanks for helping me realize lateness ONCE makes you a horrible athlete.

As far as flip flop paulman goes…….he is a knowledgeable fan who posts to quickly. He responds to people and things without waiting but his knowledge is obvious. At times he makes a great point or at least makes you think for a minute. You on the other hand….well you say someone is stupid and going to be a bust bc they were late for a meeting.

For the record…I don’t need to impress anyone on a website. I don’t know any of you’s and will never meet any of you’s. It just shows how pathetic your life is when you are concerned what people on a website think about you. Sorry you have no friends in your life. I truly wish I could intervene before you get depressed to deeply but I have family and friends that deserve me in their lives.

Have a good day homey. Hope people are generous with their change today.

As I stated, you are a complete joke…that’s why I called you giggles, you make me laugh dude. I should call you bitchlessb27 because you bitch and moan and bitch and moan when you respond…which is all you do …..still waiting for an initial post from you. You continue to lack original thoughts. Look at you hacking me now talking about home depot, get your owns giggles. I am still waiting to see you post an original thought that demonstrates any level of football acumen, speaking up for your pimp Johnny football doesn’t count. As I go through posts all I see you do is hack and troll and hack and troll. I never said Johnny was stupid, I said it may be a processing issue, which does not mean he is stupid, it simply means it will take him longer to digest the information where he can rapidly apply it in his play on the field, stop trying to read into my posts, assuming you know what I am talking about, clearly you have no idea what I meant by processing. Gigglessb27…As it relates to Vince young, I do not know the man personally, however, he may not have been willing to spend enough time in the film room to study defenses, hence his difficulty identifying the coverage he was throwing into, he too, may have had processing issues which hurt him and or his problems could have come from a lack of film study. Mechanics, I was not a fan of VY’s footwork, his foot work was shotty, which led to his inaccurate passing skills. He also had a long stride throwing range of motion which caused him extra tenths of a second to get the ball off, making him prone to having difficulty with timing routes and precision. These problems could be fixed, but, like I said, it’s about putting in the work. my concern with QB’s that run after their first read is that they do not put in time learning how to be a pocket QB, hence, hurting their maturation of delivering the ball when going through their first, second, third, and at times forth read (check down). The instinct is to run when the primary receiver is taken away, which hurts the maturation process to stand in the pocket and go through his progressions.

There was or is nothing soft about Vince Young, as he took some devastating shots, continued to put his body on the line and play. Was he the greatest study of the game, nope, I think he will admit that as he heavily relied on his athleticism to make him a successful QB, unfortunately, his athleticism could not carry him over to be a successful QB in the NFL. I don’t think VY was willing to put in the necessary work to be “that guy” that’s why he was just “a guy”.
That’s an analysis of VY from my perspective, original thoughts, based off of what I saw when he played here during the “dream team” season.

Yes VY, RGVick and Vick are the same type QB. Not smart enough to read defenses so they cover up their weakness by running around.
Johnny looked shaky at times but looked good at other. All you haters will just say how bad he looked, but if you’s knew football he would have watched and saw he made some good decisions. He clearly is better then Hoyer.
RGVick showed again that he isn’t a good QB. 3rd year and he still can’t slide and makes very bad decisions. Still not stepping into his throws.
Your “in depth” analysis on VY is a very nice copy and paste job. I appreciate the effort! You said yourself you didn’t know VY but yet you state he was lazy and pretty much stupid. How is that analysis? I can say bc you copy and paste and have no original factual thought means you are stupid and lazy.

Not making an impact
Take Calvin Pryor off the List for the Jets
He did play the 2nd Half vs the Bengals last evening
And had 7 Tackles for them playing in their depleted Secondary
Which has 3 CB Down with Injuries and was very active per reports..

Izell just curious how could that post not be directed at paulman, when after 2 preseason games he’s listing guys who have made no impact? When does the season start? Let’s see who’s doing what in December. If Marcus Smith isn’t contributing by then will it be okay to be critical? I stand by what I said earlier if you have guys struggling to get to the QB and one of his strong suits is rushing the passer, let his ass rush the passer. When Parcells had LT you think he thought okay he’s a game changing pass rusher but let’s teach him how to drop in coverage? At the end of the day the actual playing of the game of football isn’t hard. By the way no I’m not literally comparing Smith to LT. Just common football sense.

If I’m their Coach’s or Fans, I have done major concerns with their Defense as I have indicated numerous times this off-season
Where’s their Pass-Rush outside of Aldon Smith who will get his suspension
Terms this week by the NFL .. No LB Navarro Bowman,
No DT Dorsey, CB’s are questionable and Safetied are
Young., I think they finish 3rd in the NFC West

This was a while coming, and I talked about it a lot last year. 49ers window is closing fast, if not already.

They are old. They are hurt. They don;t have a QB. Their coach is a dick. Finito.

Teams nowadays have a 2-3 year window…and it usually comes before the QB gets his big contract and destroys the seams SC structure.

Saints won before the Brees contract…fade from there.
49ers got close for a couple years, now fading.
This will be the last of Denver’s window. Seattle has a year or two left before the big contracts tear that team up too.

So….I truly believe the Eagles are building for a run from 2015-2018 when Foles is in his prime. (+ Ertz in his 3rd t 5th year, Matthews in his 2nd-4th etc)

They’ve created themselves the cap space to get guys signed next year to allow for the 2-3 year run at it. If they do well this year, that’s gravy, but the D isn’t ready for the SB.

Injuries and Free-Agency will indeed set a Team back
49ers have had 2 fantastic Drafts in a row so they won’t be down for very long.. But this year, QB Kap will have to win games with his arm more than over the last couple of seasons and jury is still out if he can do this
When putting up 30 + passes a game up.,
He also has a his best & deepest WR Coris to work with
Since being a Pro, Coach Harbaugh & Co are going to have to open things up with their passing game if they want to return to
Playoffs..

He would be this early in his NFL Career
Remember the WR Coach for Panthers is Ricky Proehl who relied on attention to detail when he played and Benjamin has come into camp with a hard working focus and a great attitude…
He’s a better WR than I thought he would be at this stage and the Coach’s, his Teamnates & Fans just love this kid….

He’s molasses Paul, his body is helping with separation right now and with the contact rules on the outside it benefits him right now.

What I would be worried about is if the plays get called less tightly during the regular season. He will suffer if that is the case.

All that being said its up to Newton and developing a jump ball back shoulder connection with him.

His biggest threat is going to be in the redzone especially when they are running the ball well.

His speed is fine Izell he should’ve had a couple TD’s last night he ran away from a safety and corner twice Cam overthrew him once and Derrick Anderson got hurried on the other.

Ricky Proehl has probably helped but I was trying to tell you guys his coaches at FSU said his route running and ball skills were his strong suits so I don’t know where that talk came from. I watched the kid run the entire route tree last year with no problems. My concerns are like Cam’s he a couple a bag of chips away from TE, but then again he’s a workout warrior so we’ll see.

Phil Sheridan just posted an article on the Eagles saying Roc Carmichael and Curtis Marsh are still in the mix at CB if either one comes on strong….

HE SHOULD BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY FOR POSTING THAT NONSENSE.

WOW.

Marsh played so bad, all I could do is laugh after a while…Get him out of here. Can’t risk that type of play during the regular season. Teams will be throwing at him every chance they get.

Momah, not looking bad when you look at areas where he needed to improve…his rout running is looking sharper, he’s getting some separation from the DB’s… Someone mentioned a good point the other day, about Momah, size and if placed on practice squad he is likely to get signed elsewhere. From what I’ve see from Momah that’s a strong possibility. I think he makes the roster this year.
Henery is still a concern. Eagles will lose a game because of his inconsistency.

Benn is killing it on special teams. Henery aside I am really excited by the specials teams play.

Huff injury bummed me out a bit but I still want to see Carroll on KR and I think Sproles gets a chance a taking a couple back this year.

AND THIS IS THE END OF DAMARIS JOHNSON….AKA BLACK RENO MAHE.

Special teams has been improved under Kelly, thats 100%. The return game and coverage have been much more solid than the previous few seasons. Damaris never really made an impact in the return game. He was able to do a little in the receiving game his first year with the team. Which was his best year, which isn’t saying much.

Big lmao the worst of the worst will come out tomorrow if that happens.

We will get down the race hole black and white everything EXCEPT football.

I hope the kid does well….if you think Philly is bad D.C. is even worse when crap starts getting bad. Especially when a huge segment of the fanbase still acts like the Hogs and Riggins are walking through the door.

Realistically good or bad I don’t see working well for DeSean on two fronts. If he performs well that contract he signed was TERRIBLE. He screwed himself. If he bombs the fanbase will go ape shit on him.

Theres a TON of pressure on RG3 etc.

Jay Gruden gets to wash his hands of it if it falls apart.

I would look into the following CB’s who are on Good Defenses & Teams and may end up getting Cut/Released by their Current Teams

Seattle Seahawks – AJ Jefferson or Phillip Adams
Arizona Cardinals – Bryan McCann,Teddy Williams or Eddy Whitley

Foles still does not look sharp im sorry. If you take you fan goggles off the Pats slowed up the rush and went vanilla. When he is pressured he doesn’t make the tough throw and that’s what separates good to great qb’s. The oline will have to protect him at a top 3 line level this year. He wants to be sure the guy is open he wants the safe throw, I respect that but the best QB”s take risk. Peyton Manning said he can go a year and throw no ints but he would be leaving plays on the field. The Saints game he left plays on the field the Saints were turning it over and ready to be had. He is a young QB and I still like his attributes but he has to get the happy feet and holding on to the ball sack taking only safe throws under control. Missing Mohma who is damn near 6-10. If teams run the ball control the clock and then pressure Foles early we will be playing from behind all year. That first Jacksonville game will be a bitch.

I disagree Nu.

If anything I think he is holding on to the ball in the pocket too long at times trying to make a big play.

The play to Celek was a beautiful in a window pass between two defenders.

Also its beyond hard to judge this offense preseason because more than most QBs Foles using McCoys fakes and runs as a setup for smart passes. The running game hasnt been established this preseason so any judging of the offense is one sided.

This offense is predicated off of McCoy and the read run option. Starts with McCoy ends with McCoy.

I’m just looking at him in the pocket his arm is good enough his arm under pressure is another story he looks totally uncomfortable staring down and delivering. His passes float and his decision making gets weird. When defenders get behind him he needs a better internal clock sometimes they aren’t close and he starts drifting forward, his body almost wants to turn around and look where they are. Look the kid has all the goods to be a prolific passer with his size and the fact he has been slinging it for years, but its something missing that he was never put in that class as Breeze or any of the other Texas studs. even after tearing up Arizona. I feel like every 4 or so he is going to have a Dallas type of game like who is this guy. I agree with the offense not establishing the run yet but that doesn’t matter to Brady Breeze Peyton or any other of the guys he has been thrust next to after last year. I think he is less fired up Phillip Rivers. (not Bad) He will have crazy Nintendo stat games then shock you with a T.O. plagued nobody open hold on to the ball affair. Not to praise buttfumble but when he came in the decisions were quick and he took what was there right away. I’m on board with Foles just looking at it objectively.

Look the problems with Foles are same problems he had last year. We know what his lows look like and we know what his highs look like (against questionable competition).

Let’s hope the WR corps impresses and the oline is top 3. Foles is an okay QB who can do well with a stacked team around him and a solid running game. And there’s nothing wrong with that. BUT if they not going to build properly around the kid and solely rely on the “system” than you will see a lot of “success” b/c of the division we’re in, but no real shots at the Big Bowl.

My fears exactly TS. we won all kinds of consolation prizes im done with that im only judging can we win it all with him. Kurt Warner will go in the HOF no doubt but he was no where near a great QB. Great arm great Passer but he needed two stud WR(Holt, Bruce,Bolden, Fitz) and a stud RB(Faulk, James) to be affective at all. Take one weapon away from him which allows you to pressure him and he looks like he looked in NY or early in Ariz. not even an NFL player. Some guys are just that way we will see for sure this year bc he will have to carry the passing game how Brady, Rogers there will be different guys every time you look up. There will be pressure can he stand and deliver?

Ok hold here we go with the bullshit….

First the kid can win a stacked team…then in the same paragraph you say if they refuse to build around the kid then the only success is b/c of the division?

Yet the only offensive loss is DJax. Yet Kelly brought in Johnson Ertz Sproles Matthews Huff?

“ROLLS EYES” EH

LMAO MAKES NO DAMN SENSE AT ALL.

I’d like to see one offensive drive this preseason that isn’t assisted by about 13 questionable calls.

Every single drive.

I need for TS to again explain why, as an Eagle Fan, I should be worried about RGIII who is never going to play more than half a season the way he gets body slammed all over the field.
